Sort of mine.

From left to right -
Kallista, Ghoster and Puppy.

Unseen but also present, Molly, Squirmy, Lexi.

When I moved down the road, I took Kallista with me and the ex kept the rest, kind of a joint custody thing, since she has a big house and I gots a little apartment.

Kallista's my spoiled rotten furry little daughter, and has outlasted three different girlfriends, much to the lasting ire of all of em - I dote on that cat, so she's pretty spoiled.

Yeah, it's not like you can ever really call a cat "yours". They might deign to hang out with you for a while, if you're fortunate enough...

Nah, I thought it was more recent, like since the seventh or so...

But that could just be the meds.

(Kidding. I don't take meds if I can avoid 'em.)

That's Rodger, my most recent addition. He's bigger now, and quite healthy - a long, LONG way from where he was when he found us.

He has serious food issues, in that he will freak out if his food bowl gets anywhere close to empty. He doesn't really eat that much, but he was very close to death when he found us, and he really can't stand the idea of being "out of food". So we keep the bowl full.

This is closer to what he looks like now:

And then there's my li'l darlin', Jeepie. She was actually named after Eugene the Jeep from the old Popeye cartoons; there were two of these dogs dumped at my work, they were mischevious as hell, and had a habit of appearing and disappearing in the blink of an eye, and getting into all sorts of no-good. We called 'em Jeepie and Swee'pea. Swee'pea dug under the gate one night and got hit by a car and killed, so now I've just got Jeepie.

From Wiki: Eugene the Jeep

Quote:

In The Jeep (1938), Popeye presents the animal to Olive Oyl and Swea'Pea with the simple explanation, "The Jeep's a magical dog and can disappear and things." In Popeye Presents Eugene the Jeep (1940), it is Popeye who receives the creature from Olive, in a box via a special delivery man (voiced by Pinto Colvig), and with the premise that he had never seen the creature before: "Well, blow me down! A baby puppy!"

She goes to work with me every day, where she gets to play with the other dogs and socialize with people. She still has serious issues with humans, though, and has never quite learned to trust anyone but my wife and me.

I've also got another cat, a yellow tabby named Petey, but my pictures of him got disappeared into the ether... :( He was another one who found us. For some reason, my house is marked as the place where, if the animals have to go there, I have to take them in. It seems to work out pretty well for all involved, I think.

Kwicko - my Scarlet and your Rodger are twins, down to the scar on the chin, though Scarlet's is on the other side. The best pictures I've got handy:

Cosmo is the little guy who showed at my door, starving, last fall. He also has problems with the empty food bowl, and needs a serious cuddle every day.

RIPWASH

Alas, I have not pictures of cats or puppies to share. We had a Cairn Terrier about four years ago that was 2 years old and just growing out of his puppy stage when he got hit by a car. I still miss him terribly. We have one cat who's a bit too fat for her own good.

I will, however, post a pumpkin carving a did a few years ago. Why? I dunno. Wanted to share SOMETHING!

Mal - you're right - they ARE twins! Rodger showed up on my doorstep Thanksgiving Day of '07. I've thanked him for that every day since. :)

One of the cats we had 15 years ago was named Cosmo. He was a good cat.

Rip, sorry to hear about your pup. That sucks. And it IS hard to get over it, especially since it wasn't as if the dog was old or sick and you at least had some time to mentally prepare yourself.

I got to work one day and Swee'Pea was by the side of the road, dead. Jeepie was sitting beside her body, just howling, inconsolable. Broke my heart in two, it did. They had been our "work dogs", because they stayed at work (they had a large fenced and gated yard that we shared with a landscaping company, and we went up on weekends and fed them.

Jeepie went home with me that day, and became one of my "home dogs". Now she's both my work dog AND my home dog, so it's worked out very well for both of us, I think. :)

I still miss Swee'Pea terribly, though - and I think Jeepie does, too.

PS: You carved a pumpkin of Fritz Mondale?

RIPWASH

We've had a couple cats hang around our house for a bit. One we called Jasper but he disappeard. The other one just stuck around and she was out outdoor cat for most of the fall. We called her Mishka. Don't know why, it was just the name that came to me. Had a Russian feel to it that I liked Anyway, winter came along and our indoor cat (Dottie) doesn't take kindly to strange cats - and had been in the habit of peeing everywhere BUT her litterbox. So we talked my wife's aunt into letting her live in their barn. She's had two litters of her own since

On another note, we had a mean ol' stray give birth to kittens at our house and about two weeks later, she got ran over. So we had 5 wee little kittens we had to care for. That was an interesting experience to say the least. Finally found a family who had tons of cats willing to take on a few kittens.

Gotta get those cats FIXED. Otherwise you'll be overrun with 'em, like Tribbles.
