Damn! Ferris Bueller, the first few National Lampoon's Vacation movies, Planes Trains and Automobiles... A king of comedy. :(

I'm more partial to The Breakfast Club and Weird Science myself...

Sad to hear that he passed. Wasn't nearly old enough to go.

DREAMTROVE

Sad, a real loss. Ironic that Molly Ringwald should give birth almost at the same time, for those who believe in reincarnation...

Hello,

Weird Science made me believe that if I was smart enough, and I wanted it badly enough, I could somehow manifest the hottest woman in the world to satisfy my every whim and transform me into a cool dude.

This was a vitally important dream for a young nerd to be able to hold on to.

I think Steve Jobs and Bill Gates may have proven you correct in that belief.

RIPWASH

Just reading up on the background of some of his movies. Pretty interesting stuff. Like "The Breakfast Club" being written in only two days. That John Candy (another tremendous loss) appeared in more of Hughes' films than anyone else. Anthony Michael Hall was supposed to be Ducky in "Sixteen Candles." Johnny Depp almost got the part of Ferris Bueller.

I think John Hughes was a vital part of the 80's movie realm. He seemed to really know how teens felt and acted. We weren't always horny, weren't always trouble makers, weren't always snide and sarcastic. There was a depth to his storytelling that really touched a lot of people and that's why he'll be remembered fondly.

Probably Cameron Frye is one of my favorite film characters and I relate to him a great deal on a few different levels. Ferris IS the movie, no doubt, but Cameron is what makes this film work.

Many of John Candy's roles in Hughes' films had a great deal of emotion to them. Sure Candy could make a great deal of those films memorable comedically, but when Del Griffith talks about his deceased wife . . . man, I get teary eyed every time.

John Hughes had a heck of a casting couch. Probably what killed him.

I think I want to be a Hollywood director if I grow up.
