A Philadelphia man was charged Monday with threatening to kill Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and his family in the first such arrest since an outbreak of harassment and vandalism began against members of Congress more than a week ago.

Norman Leboon, 33, posted a YouTube video last week in which he threatened to shoot Cantor, the second-ranking Republican in the House, and his family.

An affidavit released Monday did not say why Leboon allegedly wanted to harm Cantor, the only Jewish Republican member of Congress, but in the video, he calls Cantor "pure evil."

"Remember Eric . . . our judgment time, the final Yom Kippur has been given," he says in the profanity-laced video. "You are a liar, you're a pig . . . you're an abomination. You receive my bullets in your office, remember they will be placed in your heads. You and your children are Lucifer's abominations."

The battle over health care has led to a spate of threats against members of Congress, mostly Democrats. At least 10 House Democrats reported death threats, or incidents of harassment or vandalism at their district offices last week, including thrown bricks, a cut gas line and threatening letters and calls.

Cantor engaged in a war of words with Democratic leaders last week, accusing Democratic National Committee Chairman Timothy M. Kaine and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.) of "fanning the flames" and politicizing the subject of threats.

Federal records indicate a Norman Leboon Sr. of Philadelphia donated $255 to Obama's campaign on June 20, 2008, followed the next day by a $250 donation. They are the only federal-level donations made by a person with the surname "Leboon" on record.

The face of peace.

Read him his rights, charge him, indict him, try him, convict him, imprison him. For life, if necessary. Seems that's what "the blind Sheikh" - what was his name again, Sheik Paula Abdul Top-Ramen? - got for a similar charge.

Or would you rather torture him before doing any of those things?

I'm waiting for "Hero" to point out how nobody went "whining like a little bitch" to the media on this one. Well, except for Cantor himself. Why's "Hero" think Cantor's a little bitch, anyway?

I love it...the police go after one man who threatened Cantor, big to-do; look, he's a Democrat, that shows THEY'RE the only violent ones!

Who's going after all the other death threats TO BOTH SIDES and spewing it all over the media? I haven't heard a word, strangely...

I have no doubt the anger has swelled so dramatically by now that there are wishes for death on both sides.

We know who started all this, back when Obama was nominated; the only important thing is that both sides COULD stop it if they'd stop using it for publicity and speak out. Which one will? Any bets?

The Democrats DON'T want to stop. The DNC and individual Democrat politicians are using these nut-job incidents to raise campaign money. Besides, for one "story" they're really getting their money's worth on this:
They can label all Tea Party people as racists and dangerous
They can label all militias as dangerous
They get to say "Christian" militia, which is the motherlode for them.

You won't see this hyped-up bullshirt stop any time soon.

How totally amusing...given the big blow-up is about a REPUBLICAN getting a death threat! AND that it's been the Republicans spewing the visceral terms all over the place all this time. Yet a Republican gets a death threat (with both sides do all the time), it's a HUGE news story, a guy is arrested, and the complaints that it's "all" the Democrats' fault...

its news worthy because it shocks--because it doesn't fit the narrative we'd all recognize: crazed t-baggers want to kill commies. instead, we have a basement dweller who wants to kill cantor. it's like, MAN BITES DOG...ON BALLS!

Niki,

We DO know who started this... The Bill Ayers, the islamo nuts, anyone who fears a strong United States. More recently, it's been the Death of a President crowd, pissed off @ Bush winning in 2000.

This was a credible threat, unlike the silly , non specific rants from the Right.

Might be totally amusing to you, but it is true. Turn on CNN or the networks; all the "coverage" is about those militia retards in Michigan, and the Tea Party "racists" from last week. The newspapers are on board with this crap too. Frank Rich of NY Times wrote that Tea Party people are tied to militias and are racists, without one shred of evidence to support, so did Leonard Pitts of Miami Herald. And syndicators have these lies going all over the world now. It's just another in a long list of Democrat smear campaigns. They will not stop because they see this as the ONLY way to possibly stem off an election debacle in November. Only problem is most Americans are smarter than that, and these Dems are through. So as they continue to spread lies and stoke the flames of racism, people like you will continue to be amused. That's so nice for you.

whats this with stoking the flames of racism? i don't get it. i mean, i sort of get figurative language. but i wonder: calling someone out for using the n-word racist? is being aware of race, racist? it seems that there are no racists in the t-party movement--to find them you'd have to look at liberal democrats who support things like affirmative action.

Good one, Mincing, made me smile.

Surely FauxNews gave it big coverage, it's their cup of tea. So I don't know what TV you watch, but it's definitely out there...

Any video to prove it ever happened? Can't find it on YouTube. Maybe Cantor made the whole thing up, like the "shots fired at his office" claim earlier.

Also, I wouldn't be so quick to make the connection between him and donations to Obama. After all, there are two more of me right here in Austin, a city of less than a million people. Two other people with the EXACT same name - first, middle, and last - and it's about as common a surname as "Laboon".

Just sayin'...

Still no video?

Looks more and more like a made-up claim to me, a pure fabrication by the right. Next thing you know, Rove will be claiming he's being heckled at book signings.
