Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I was researching obsidian swords, and accidentally stumbled across this site:

http://www.raceandhistory.com/historicalviews/ancientamerica.htm

It makes some startling statements I'd never heard before. However, it could also be a propaganda piece, and parts of it are written like one. Whenever I see strongly asserted statements about the distant unknown past, I get suspicious. Similarly, I become uneasy when someone seizes upon the SINGLE UNDENIABLE CONCLUSION to a set of data. Chariots of the Gods used similar language.

Can anyone with a history background or special knowledge of archaeology confirm any of this and suggest further reading on the topic?

Thanks,

--Anthony

One of the first lines in the piece already makes it suspect for me. It claims that blacks came to the Americas via the Bering strait as early as 100 thousand years ago. First of all I believe the earliest evidence of humans in the Americas is claimed to be only 30 thousand years old and many find even that dating highly suspect. Second, whether 30 or 100 thousand years, I haven't seen any evidence of blacks being that far north in that time period. I think your suspicion that this is Chariots of the Gods BS is probably the case.

MAGONSDAUGHTER

I've heard something similar recently - in fact my son told me that he's seen something on TV. It appears that there is some evidence of two separate migratory routes, with distinctive racial differences.

Obviously both are from Africa as that is where everyone is from, but one came the slow route via Bering straits and the other, much earlier came from the pacific basin and have similar genetic markers as Aboriginal people in Australia. It's a new, controversial theory and I'm not sure how proven it is.

MINCINGBEAST

One interpretation of the genetic and linguistic evidence is that there were three separate waves of migration to the New World: Amerind, Na Dene and Aleut. The Origin of Language, Merritt Ruhlen 153 (1994). Linguists dispute these language groupings to a degree; the genetics are less controversial. None of these waves originated from African populations, but for the sense that all humans started there; they're Asian.

This could...exclude...africans from the new world. If there was an ancient african presence in the Americas, it wasn't significant enough to make a genetic or linguistic impact. The best evidence of any cultural impact is that some Olmec statues "look black."

And some of them seem to me to look Asian, in that they resemble the classic statues of the Buddha, complete with slanted eyes.

I didn't read the whole article, but it put me off in the first paragraph by making blanket claims of fact.

Now, is it *POSSIBLE* that there were African ancestors in the New World? Sure. But there could have just as easily been branches of Australian Aboriginals, as Magons pointed out, via Polynesian routes.

DREAMTROVE

I recall some years ago a mayan statue of an african man was uncovered. there were a lot of attempted to explain this away as some weird genetic various, but the guy is clearly black.

The short answer to this is that there were individual explorers all over the ancient world that did not represent the start of a mass migration the way columbus did. I recall lots of ancient sailors showing up in the oddest places, like the chinese in east africa.

Not sure there's much more of a study here than that.
