How can I prove I am not a terrorist?

How do you prove you are not a terrorist? I, my husband, and several members of my family have followed the Islamic faith, including joining over 2,000,000 people for the Hajj in Mecca last Dhu-al-Hijjah. According to the American government, and many members of the American populace, my family and I are either terrorists ourselves, or we are tacitly supporting and enabling other terrorists in the Islamic world. So how do we defend our honor?

Is it proof that I am not a terrorist that I served for several years as an Arabic tutor for the American community in Baghdad? Is it proof that I am not a terrorist that my family attends social gatherings that include members of multiple religions? Is it proof that I am not a terrorist when my family befriended an American mother and her two children who were alone for her holidays last year and that my light-brown son chose all the toys and clothes for her white son based on their common love for all things Bakugan and sports? Is it proof that we are not terrorist that we invite our Sunni employee and his wife to join us on our family vacation at the beach? Or how about that my family includes members of several nationalities on the approved American list, and that I have close relationships with those family members?

Seriously, how can I prove to America and its citizens and supporters that my family and I are not terrorists? Have any of these accusers been to an Islam mosque, rally, or event? Have they seen the business relationships I form with people of other nationalities, the way we sit together, laugh together, and share conversation about our jobs? Or are the America name-callers jumping on the bandwagon to condemn all Islamic people out of hand? Can any of the American people "prove" that any terrorist events have been supported by myself and those in my mosque?

Why are my family and I subjected to condemnation and the extreme insult of being labeled "terrorist" and then forced to either submit to the derogatory term or try (desperately and futilely) to defend ourselves from the slur? Why are so many citizens of the United States, and particularly on the political “right”, comfortable with labeling all members of the Islamic faith as "terrorists"?

Why do American bombs take away my children, my husband, my home, my city, my entire way of life? Why must I be maimed and killed when I have done nothing wrong?

Who are the hypocrites now?

To answer your question, Rappy, Wulf:

The women in the parody above is fictional, obviously, but the man I met in Kuwait was not. He was an Iraqi, a Sunni, and his wife was Shiite. He regularly mixed with all sects, and told me that the regular, average populace of the country really wasn't so divided. They really just wanted to go about their day.

He used to live in a city (I forget which - not Baghdad) and moved out because of the violence. His entire way of life was in upheaval, because he shared a label ("Islamic", rather than your "Tea Party") with a few people--people far distant from him and his life--who'd done bad things.

How could he prove to you that he is not a terrorist? Whatever answer you would give to him, give it to yourself.

Then STFU.

Who was telling who to just relax?

Why do you assume I was talking particularly and personally to you Whozit? Or are you just cranky because you believed that first post? I thought it would be obvious: it was as close to a word for word copy of Rappy's "not a racist" thread starter as I could get it.

BTW, I am not a vet. The man I met in Kuwait was a fellow scientist.

You honestly think this is, in any way, constructive to anything ?

Gee, Muslims are just real people, like anyone else ? Gosh, I've been so wrong,....

Wait, no I haven't. Not even a little bit.

Your FICTIONAL story has no bearing on the ACTUAL story I posted on this forum.

And no, I won't STFU, either. Not even a little.

So you've sucked Obama's dick to prove you aren't racist? Or are you just copying Southpark's idea with Stan Marsh and Jesse Jackson? Very nice.

*sigh* What happened to the days when folks would actually discuss things here? There was a nice spell through 2009, but I guess it's over now.

Or can any of you righties turn your brains on and consider the question: how does the average Iraqi prove to the right-wing war mongers that they are not terrorists? I can recall more than one rightie here being all kinds of gung ho about killing any Moslim, no matter whether they'd bombed anything or not. Including mothers. (Kwicko - you recall who said that? Got the quote?)

See Whozit? This is who I was talking about. It's also a prime example of how to prove that one is indeed a racist, as well as a hypocrite. And not bright enough to read through the whole post for the real life example.

There was no point of reading through your post because it wasn't applicable to the post I made on racism.

You dodge one point entirely, but then USED it as a basis to start an entirely separate point, though mimicking its style and format.

The premise of your position is faulty. There's really not much more that needs to be said.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

I'm sorry, Mal4...I so enjoyed yesterday morning because "they" weren't here and we had some real discussions. Don't give up; all we can do is ignore them and MAYBE they'll away again; the only thing we can do is try to have our discussions AROUND them.

That was fantastic. I recognized it right away and appreciated it for what it said. Interestingly, the Muslim community HAS come out loudly and often to denounce terrorists who give them a bad name and get them lumped together. If only the Tea Party would do the same, this wouldn't even be an issue.

And yes, it's sad in both cases that the innocents get branded with the worst of their number...after 9/11 I asked our local 7/11 family if they were okay, they smiled and said yes, they'd be amazed at how many people were looking out for them. On the other hand, my favorite Afghan restaurant, "Bamiyan" was forced to close.

It's always a shame when a few people behave horribly and a group gets blamed for it. I never thought, as I said, that all Tea Partiers are racists, but they lay themselves open to it by determinedly denying there is ANY racism. When I hear things like that legitimacy-test thing being whistled and applauded, it's hard to remember it's not all of them.

Ironically, my brain finished your story with "of course, yesterday I DID bomb that busload of Americans, but still..." Dunno why, it just popped up.

I try to remember, by the way, that the Nasties aren't really "here"...they read to find something they can grab onto with which to snark, nothing more. So they're not really "here" to me anymore, unless they contribute something worthwhile.

I speak asshole fluently. Allow me to translate:

My mediocre snarking is my point of view; I cannot separate my second-rate venom from my ideas, because they are one in the same. If people ignore me and dismiss me, I shall BAWW, for they are violating my constitutional right to be an anus.

DING-DING-DING-DING-DING-DING-DING-DING! WE HAVE A WINNER!

Easiest way to prove you're not an "-ist": stop being one. Duh! I guess Crappy can't figure that out for himself. And now he's taken the interesting approach of embracing his racism enthusiastically and hanging it out there for all to see. ****psst, Rappy: that's not going work! ****

Indeed. I would never meet an individual in the Tea Partier and think them racist. Their behavior is the guide. If all they could talk about was how unfair the accusation is waa-waa-waa, I would begin to wonder. You can tell a lot about a person by what they get defensive about. Whiny, angry confrontational defenses tend to come up when a person knows their position is weak.

See whozit's reaction above.

Um... do you mean that to be darkly ironically funny? Or you thought the parody might go that way? Would have ruined it a bit. (Um... but would have been just a tiny bit very darkly very wrongly funny.)

Do you notice they've really picked it up lately? Like Red Sox fans - they only really get going when they feel like they might win something. (I'm a Red Sox fan, btw.) Just wait till the important part of the political season comes and their momentum lags. They'll disappear again, or find their manners, just like they did in Nov 08. They're not here for the issues after all, but for the chance to win and gloat.

(Of course I don't mean all righties. Just the obvious ones here on this site. )

LOL! I hadn't seen how perfectly applicable this metaphor is.

Rappy asked: "How do I prove I am not a racists?"

whozit replied: "Thanks to the Tea Party they want you to belive[sic] that becuase[sic] of your political affliations that when people see you they see someone who is a complete racist. JUST RELAX!!! You've got your answer Crappy!

BWAAAAAAHHHHHHH!

ETA: Though I guess this answer would more go to the woman who wrote the original article. We've already seen Rappy's response: he is whole heartedly a racist, and damned proud of it!

Or you could just take a couple pages out of the Rappy handbook, and just refuse to acknowledge any post which is problematic for you, proclaiming things like "this topic isn't even worthy of my attention" without ever seeing the inherent irony of bothering to post such blather in the first place.

Or you could just selectively edit quotes to try to fit your agenda...

Mincng, thank you sincerely for the proper definition. You said it better than I could:
Quote:

The underlined part is the saddest part, to me.

Mal4, beautifully written. I’m not sure why the ending popped into my head...if I think about it, I think it was a combination of both fearing that WOULD be the end (which would have changed the entire meaning), and finding it “just a tiny bit very darkly very wrongly funny”. Combination of the two I guess.
Quote:

speaks for me, too.

And yes, I too have noticed the saliva all over the threads, as you mentioned. Mike and I had a quick exchange about it in another thread, with him saying wouldn’t it be ironic if there were actually only six or so of us here?

Lastly, yeah, “a dark and foul wind” applies better here than to Wulf...sometimes he actually has something to say. Sometimes...

RivKane/Whatsit is more like just a pile of , something filthy and slippery in the path to be stepped over quickly or your shoes will be fouled. If you’re kind, you’ll point it out to others so THEY don’t get fouled or fall down to the same level. Then you move on and completely forget about it.

I have wondered that myself... and I think it's pretty clear where the majority of the "repeated" identities would be.

That is definitely true. Wulf seems misguided, but earnest. After several years of observation, I think that Rappy is dfferent. He is not here for any kind of politics, he just desperately needs attention. I wouldn't be surprised to find that he goes on conservative sites and posts liberal hooey just to get a rise out of folks there. Remember when we all ignored him for a week or so? He went nuts! Like the third grader who needs to be the focus of the class - jumping up and down and shouting. Beating his head against a wall until someone pays attention to him. He even made a new acct so he could pretend to be someone else pretending to be him. Anything thing to be important.

Is he wasn't so annoying, I'd pity him.

Although, I do appreciate how easy he makes it to prove him wrong. That's the other possibility I've considered - that he's an internet version Stephen Colbert, an ongoing parody designed to show how idiotic the right wing can be.

I love that movie! Truly brilliant. Even the really really bad parts (like the hand-to-hand fight scenes) are brilliant. I haven't seen it recently though, didn't recall the scene you mean.
