Sorry Big O., it could have been special. A great social step forward, but as a presidency, not so much, and not likely to right itself before 2012. And mainly because for whatever reason (and the reason doesn't matter except for the sake of discussion) you're just too damn polarizing. Maybe we're too petty of a people? Maybe you're just too much of a mediator and not enough of a leader. Maybe if you didn't have to fight the Right all the time... Again, you can discuss the why of it forever, but no matter how long you talk you won't talk it away. Maybe we're doomed to only ever having essentially half the country behind any President at any one time?
And while we argue and fall deeper into debt and gridlock, China gets hopped up on economic steroids and muscles past us with ease.

R_HP_LO_MST_FB

".... from the very opening session of this year’s World Economic Forum here in Tianjin, our Chinese hosts did not hesitate to do some comparing. China’s CCTV aired a skit showing four children — one wearing the Chinese flag, another the American, another the Indian, and another the Brazilian — getting ready to run a race. Before they take off, the American child, “Anthony,” boasts that he will win “because I always win,” and he jumps out to a big lead. But soon Anthony doubles over with cramps. “Now is our chance to overtake him for the first time!” shouts the Chinese child. “What’s wrong with Anthony?” asks another. “He is overweight and flabby,” says another child. “He ate too many hamburgers.”

(Yo, Anthony, lay off the hamburgers! )

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Well, I will vote for him again. There have been problems, and many of the big spotlight issues have been, well, huge issues. I wish it weren't so. But the man has done right by me as a student. Though there were many reasons I voted for him, one of the main ones was his promises to students, to make it easier for us to afford higher education. It almost immediately got easier for me, and continues to do so. It was obviously quiet and behind the scenes, but he got it done. Since it's possible I'll be spending the next decade as a student, it means a lot to me. So thanks, Mr. President.

Ditto Mincing. Unfortunately, nobody can make the argument that "Imagine how it'd be if McCain/Palin had won", but I keep that in mind when I get pissed off.

Very disappointed, but I do recognize good things have been done, and some which have been attempted and may now have a chance to move forward, which they didn't prior to him.

I'm with Rose, and for me it's been the environment. He hasn't done all he could or I believe he should, but he beats the HELL out of Bush on that score!

I want more, but I'm willing to wait, and the one thing I won't do is vote for a Republican, given what always results. So I'll just go on bitching and moaning, but I'll vote. Midterms, too, 'cuz we need every vote we can get this time!! IF we could get an anti-Tea Party, anti-Republican turnout, we'd have a fighting chance. All the extremists won with a VERY small turnout and a VERY small margin in the primaries; we'll see how it goes in the general!

By the way, I don't think for one minute that Obama is too polarizing; I think the right (especially the TPers) determined right away to be the way they are, Repub legislators said from day one they'd be the Party of No, and to me it has more to do with the fires that have been deliberately created and fanned that people view HIM as the polarizing force. I don't.

However, I agree with you heartily on

I can. Hmm...if McCain/Palin had won we'd have started off with McCain's decision to resign. Then tax cuts, 5% unemployment, and $1 gas. That would be followed by the immediate deployment of 100,000 new troops to Afganistan in the Spring of 2009, a decisive summer campaign and Osama Bin Ladden's unconditional surrender on the deck of the USS Missouri (got out of mothballs for just that occaison). Palin would then dismantle the Dept of Education, engage in tax reform, and charm Russia into being good guys. Iran's govt would fall when President Palin gives direct support to the election protesters. Millions of illegals voluntarily leave after being asked nice, Republicans sweep the 2010 elections and Obama aunt gets deported. Firefly brought back to TV and Lindsey Lohan gets clean and becomes a model citizen (fueled by her Emmy-winning role as young Sarah Palin in NBC's miniseries 'The Sarah Palin Story'). Browns win the Super Bowl.

But instead you all wanted Obama...Browns are losers, Lohan's going to jail, the war is not being won, employment is high, hopes are low.

Good job guys.

Liberal Republican? No, you're right, I wouldn't vote for a liberal Republican. First, there is no such varmint, and second, even if there were such a varmint, even Republicans won't vote for liberal Republicans. Isn't that what the latest RINO hunt is all about? Regarding McCain, I almost liked him a little bit when he attacked the religious right in 2000, and used slurs to describe Asian folk.

If unemployment were 25%, and Obama started a war with Canada, I would vote for him only if the opposing candidate was Osama Bin Laden.

In summation, I am going to take a giant dump in Fresno and then kiss Olberman. With tongue.

Rudy Giuliani and Scott Brown are liberals, if they won the nomination I would be thrilled to vote for either. "YOU" would find an excuse not to vote for them, ALL you libs would find one because you're all a bunch of phonies!

Tell Olbermann I said he's a filty whore for the Democrats......and he's stupid.

Dude, you sound like Holden Caulfield. I hate Holden Caulfield, but I like you, so I am confused.

Calling Rudy and Scott liberals stretches the meaning of the word beyond recognition (sort of like I wish Olberman would stretch my...nevermind). If Rudy is a liberal, then what is Dennis Kucinich? A socialist, or an alien or something of course.

Kucinich an alien..........YES! Yes he is! As for Olbermann, he couldn't stretch the truth.....and he's stupid.

Heck, I never voted for a Clinton, ever... ;)

Freedom is Important because People are Important

"McCain was the darling of the MSM and you Demorats untill he ran for Prez,"

Hello,

Mccain lost much appeal as he approached the run for president. He seemed to take a U-Turn on previously laudable positions.

Once the man proved he would turn on a dime (the dime doubtless being the motivating factor) there was no way to be sure what to expect from him. He sold out even core principles that he'd held for years.

There is more democrats than republicans. But republicans always vote. Obama is making the same mistake Bush 41 made. Popular as hell then the economy busts and sits on his hands. Bush 41 did not know what a scanner was for food. Obama is jet setting, speeches, and ball room parties. Ross Perot warned us about Gatt and Nafta. He was right. But hey we all had good jobs. Dot Com Boom remember then Bust. Bush 43 is alot like LBJ get ya into a war than doesn't fight it. LBJ the worst prez then Carter then Obama then Bush 43. Little Bush tried to please everyone, Rag Heads, Mexicans, libs, and so on.

Like I said, he got run over like Carter.

That said, I didn't vote FOR him, I voted AGAINST the proto-neo-fascist nightmare behind whatever bullshit front the GOP is ever holding up, and I still do think we need to finish them off even if a Reign of Terror is what it takes - you can't cut out the cancer without risk, you know.

And I still don't think the solution to folks badly handling a disaster they've been handed off, resides in giving control of the matter to the fucktards that created the disaster in the first goddamn place - no deal.

There's got to be someone... yanno? Maybe this is the perfect time for an independent, someone who doesn't automatically have a legion of built in haters.

The same thing was said right before Bush won, and then again right before he won again. Look where that got us.
It's unfortunate, but for the time being, a vote for an independent party is a vote Republican, and it's likely they know it.

Ditto. And their "platform" so far is to do exactly what Bush did, WITH some added social agendas, so that's the choice.

No, there doesn't have to be "someone", unfortunately...the GOP's being pulled further to the right, so I imagine they'll put up a real right-winger...if not a Tea Partier!!!
