Mahr was spouting his usual horseshit about Repubs "not caring about people" when Clooney read hinm the riot act and said most of his support for the Darfur intiative was coming from the Right. Poor little Bill Mahr....the whoremongering douchebag Liberal was left speechless. Good to see something like that coming from Clooney. Later, Rob Reiner called Tea Party activists Nazis and Hitler Youth, and things were back in the comfort zone for the miserable excuse for a human Mahr.

Clooney didn't exactly read him the riot act. He's gotten some support, or is still trying to get some support for republicans, and hopefully they will continue to assist. Who doesn't want to work with a celebrity when you can, and republicans have rare opportunities where they get to do that. This issue is apolitical enough for them to show they are human. But for Clooney's part, if he's trying to get support for this cause, why would it be smart for him to agree with Maher on this point?

That said, I think that Republicans are capable of voting against their best interests all the time in favor of what is "right," like anti-gay legislation, and tax cuts for the rich(as if the rich don't benefit more from american infrastructure than the rest of us, 50-fold)...

as to the topic at hand, Maher made one distinctive break from the kind of thing Juan said. Maher spoke to his concern about the propagation of Islam as a more general issue with fundamentalist religion in any form getting more control over our daily lives. But then, I think he would tell most people that currently Islam is more dangerous than other religions.

I'm not sure that's accurate, given that our false war tapped into religion enough to sell the boon-doggle, the "crusade." "Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists"...blah blah blah, and over a hundred thousand people are dead because of it.

It's more a reflection of the blandness and uniformity of modern Islamic culture (virtually every Muslim boy being called Mohammed), and Muslim immigrants in Western nations defining themselves more and more in terms of their religion I think - than a sheer number of Muslims.

For every 1 Mohammed there are 10 other English boys, all with different names.

There's nothing wrong with this quote in my book, though I see things a little differently.

Just because a prejudice is popular does not make it true or right. We have struggled with similarly popular prejudices in the past (and even now), against against blacks, against women, against gays, against Jews. The French mainstream media is very bigoted. Once in France, I heard a news report say, "Two apartments burnt down in such-and-such neighborhood. It is a good thing it is a black neighborhood where we would not miss those apartments anyway." They do that sort of thing all the time, according to my French friends, who happen to be black and Muslim.
