"Russia classifies beer as alcoholic"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14232970

Quote:

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a bill that officially classifies beer as alcoholic.

Until now anything containing less than 10% alcohol in Russia has been considered a foodstuff.

Crazy Russians - anything less than 10% doesn't count, lol.

It's not personal. It's just war.

Anything containing less than 10% alcohol is mouthwash. Or breakfast.

That makes me laugh too. :) seems culturally apropriate though that they put off such a classification. :)

Why is this funny? Laughing at this demonstrates your racism.

Why is it appropriate to laugh at Russian for their Russian-anity? That's racist. And culturally insensitive.

Ya'll ought to be ashamed. And beaten.

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

I'm not laughing at them; I'm in awe of them. There's something old-worldian I admire about the idea that they've never considered beer "alcohol" before.

And is "Russian" a race now? I get that "Caucasian" is...

Even if you're not laughing at them, you're probably being racist. Your admiration is tinged with racism.

Russians are a race, just as the Spanish are a race, and Californians are a race, too. Californians are, in fact, the master race.

Aw-right Mincing! We are, indeed, the master race, and the world would do well to follow our example. We are the next step in man's evolution; if everyone thought and behaved like Californians, the world would be Shangri-La, unquestonably! People are just too ignorant to see the wonderfulness of us, that's all. Or they're jealous. Or both.

I find no humor in Russia only now acknowledging beer as alcohol. After all, when you live on vodka, beer hardly IS "alcohol". The surprised to me is hearing they even drink beer at all.

This all reminds me of an incident which left me in giggles back in 2004.

Russian army rescues kegs of beer
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/3414593.stm
Quote:

Russian troops have retrieved 10 tonnes of beer trapped under the Siberian ice after a week-long operation.

A lorry carrying the beer was lost while crossing the frozen River Irtysh, near the city of Omsk, about 2,200 kilometres (1400 miles) from Moscow.

The driver managed to jump out after the ice gave way, but the lorry and its cargo sank.

Six divers, 10 men with electric saws and a tank pulled the beer kegs - but not the truck - to safety.

Beer going cheap

With temperatures reaching -27C, the rescue mission was fraught with problems.

Russia's Tass news agency reported that the recovery team eventually managed to pull the vehicle through a hole in the ice.

They retrieved the kegs of beer but the rope snapped and the truck slipped back under the water.

The Rosar brewery in Omsk said the freezing temperatures probably kept the quality of the beer from deteriorating and said it will still take the delivery.

It plans to sell the beer at a discount.

Man, that gives a who new meaning to "ice-cold beer", neh ?
