Just shows the bias of the media, and lengths to which the Left will go to , in order to vilify anyone they feel is a threat to their dear and fluffy Obama.

Here's a legitimate cover shot of the congresswoman -

How petty and unprofessional for Newsweek to use what very likely was only a test shot, as the cover , and then to add the juvenile headline.

Oh, am I a professional photographer ? Nope. But that's what some who are have said...

Quote:

First, the lighting is harsh and uneven, more like a driver's license photo than a professional portrait. Her hair casts a shadow over her forehead, indicating poor positioning of the flash on the photographer's right. Her expression is unnatural, something good portrait photographers try to avoid not only because it looks bad, but also because it doesn't give the viewer any insight into the subject. Really good portrait photography reveals the subject's personality, which is why the best portrait photographers spend a lot of time making their subjects feel relaxed and comforatble. You can't capture someone's personality if she's nervous, unready, uncomfortable or distracted. Bachmann appears all of those in that photo. On top of that, she's awkwardly posed, as if she happened to be walking by and suddenly looked up. It looks like a test shot, not a final portrait. ( I found out after writing this, that Bachmann's campaign said it was a shot from the lighting test. ) Forget a national news magazine; that photo wouldn't make the cut in some smaller, regional publications based on its technical flaws alone. So how did it make the cover of Newsweek?

Even the gals from the N.O.W. side against Newsweek and its shoddy treatment of Michelle Bachmann...

Quote:

Monday, the National Organization for Women (NOW) spoke out against Newsweek’s most recent cover, which features an extreme close-up of Michele Bachmann and the title “The Queen of Rage.”

“It’s sexist,” NOW president Terry O’Neill told TheDC. “Casting her in that expression and then adding ‘The Queen of Rage’ I think [it is]. Gloria Steinem has a very simple test: If this were done to a man or would it ever be done to a man – has it ever been done to a man? Surely this has never been done to a man.”

Jon Stewart takes Newsweek to task over Bachmann cover

After briefing the London riots on Tuesday night's "Daily Show," Jon Stewart did something slightly out of the ordinary: defended Tea Party Rep. Michele Bachmann.

By now most people have seen Newsweek's latest cover featuring Bachmann with the headline "Queen Of Rage." But it's not the story that's making headlines -- it's the way Bachmann looks in the photo: wide-eyed, a bit startled and a bit startling.

Stewart concluded that it couldn't possibly be "an accidentally s***ty" picture of Bachmann and showed several photos of her looking very photogenic to back it up. Of course, he still worked in some amazing send-ups, including placing the cover side by side with the poster of Steve Carell from "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" (the similarities are uncanny!).

Newsweek Editor Tina Brown has defended the cover, saying it aimed to capture how Bachmann is "galvanizing" voters in Iowa, but Stewart insists that the photo intended to make her look crazy. Watch the full clip to hear Stewart's solution for a Bachmann Newsweek cover that would actually do the trick -- without even using a photo.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/10/jon-stewart-defends-michele-b
achmann-newsweek_n_923124.html

So, N.O.W. and John Stewart both are defending Bachmann, and taking Newsweek to task for their obvious unprofessionalism at shamelessly ridiculing Bachmann, and then trying to justify it.

Which makes the point all that more significant. He's no fan of Bachmann, which is plain to see. But even so, Newsweek went way over board in its treatment of of her.

THAT is the point.

Hee, hee, hee...you vilify Stewart gleefully 90% of the time, but hold him up as proof when he says something you like. I see it's all over google, and the title on many is "Jon Stewart Defends Michelle Bachmann", which is hysterical if you see the entire bit. It's amazingly funny that some see that as him "defending" her:

You of course left out all the rest of what he said, which was hysterical, and what he said about her BEING crazy, the fact that he didn't "defend" her whatsoever, and the finish, where he said "You want a photo that makes her look a little off? Make it out of her words" and offered just that:

(It's a screen capture, Raptor, only way I could isolate it, in case you're clicking on the "run" button madly and wondering why nothing's happening.)

Apparently he's not alone, given how many times I read "Jon Stewart Defends Bachman" on Google. But then, extremists on either side have no sense of humor, as we all know.

I keep wondering why righties don't come up with their own satirical show like Daily Show or Colbert Report. Maybe NONE of them have a sense of humor...the only thing I ever see them laughing about are put-downs of the other side or individuals. Strange mentality, and think just how much FUN they miss! I pity them.

You mean Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck aren't satirical?

Then again, I don't really take any of the pundits seriously, especially the liberal pundits. I can remember when Janeane Garafolo was considered mainstream thinking by the left.

It scared me so bad I had to watch a few episodes of Hannity and Colmes and choke down some Michael Savage to feel that all was equal in the world of political absurdity.

Ever wonder why both sides make each election sound like it's the end of the world and each side make a mockery of the other candidates?

Hell people made fun of the peanut farmer and the forgetful governor who loved jellybeans. Makes me yearn for a big warm glass of Billy Beer.

Yes, how very unfair of them to publish a picture that she posed for and for which she would have had to sign a release.

She is known for having that wild-eyed crazy look, and she is known for not being able to look at a camera while speaking (see her response to President Obama's State of the Union Speech for an example).

So to call it "unfair" of Newsweek to show the traits she's most known for is pure idiocy.

The only thing that makes Bachmann look batshit crazy is the fact that she's batshit crazy.

Everybody who isn't in bed with the tea-baggers knows this. Rappy doesn't, but he also thinks she adopted 23 kids, so we can all see how little he knows about... well, ANYTHING, really.

I don't think anyone is denying that Newsweek chose that picture for a reason, who's disputed that? What I've disputed is your saying he was "defending" her, which he certainly wasn't! Can you grasp the concept of being able to chide someone about doing something wrong to someone you personally don't like? Try it on for size, 'cuz that's what happened. And you could leave all the silly rhetoric and adjectives home if you felt like it, because they mean nothing.

On the other hand, I have to refute Mike's remark about her not looking at the camera. As much fun as it was, it was a simple mistake of not knowing which camera she was supposed to be looking at. Which Jon Stewart also had an absolute BALL with, and alluded to again in the segment you've been ranting about. That was a faux pas that she's still living down, but it was, in my opinion, an honest mistake and in no way indicates her intelligence or sanity.

ETA: Neither Jon Stewart nor NOW have said anything about Newsweek being an "asshole", so that one's so far out in left field even YOU can't catch it.

It's not "distorting her image"; it's reporting what her image is.

She's certainly not known for her legislative record, because she doesn't have one to speak of. This is hilarious, coming from someone from Georgia, a state which up until very recently had on its flag the battle flag of the Confederacy, the most TRULY anti-American group in history!

I mean, you're real big on providing "proof" of things, aren't you?

Care to back up that claim that it's not just your opinion that they're assholes?

My words, their view. Why are we still arguing about this ? Oh, of course, I know why. YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

What "TRUTH"? The TRUTH that nobody said what you said they said?

Yeah, I can handle that. I was the one who pointed it out to you, after all.

Your opinion isn't the issue here. It's the attempt by a news magazine to falsely paint a candidate in a negative light. They've gone to such lengths to distort her image as to post a test shot photo as their cover , with extremely an misleading caption.

Everyone can see this, and even those on the far Left ( at least those who are honest ) can come out and claim what Newsweek did was yellow journalism, and intentionally deceptive.

Why can't you just be civil and mature about this, admit that Newsweek went over board in what they did, and just leave it at that ?

Really not that much of an issue.

They did not paint her in a negative light, just the true light of what she is. Had they done the something to say, Romney or Ron Paul I would take issue. I may not agree with their stances on the issues but they are intelligent enough to hold an intellectual conversation. Also they don't flaunt their religious convictions. Bachmann can only repeat talking points and she does a poor job at that.

Any person, right or left, that is so obviously no suited for public office should be ridiculed, along with the people who support them.

Or... a more fair and balanced review of the cover might be...Newsweek has been losing market share to Time for the last 6 months. Time's circulation has gone up 16% while Newsweek has gone down 5% in the first 6 months of 2011, even with new leadership at Newsweek. As any print publication will know, in this new digital age, if you aren't growing you are dying, hence Newsweek's trend to more and more controversial (desperate) covers, including the age-enhanced, digitally manipulated image of Princess Diana (only the face that's sold more newsweeklies than any other in history).
So it's not politics, it's not bad photography, it's just business. This is a win for Newsweek buzz-wise, even if they suffer in the PR dept.

Ahhh, I get it Mike; it's not that looking at the wrong camera was a sign of stupidity, it's something that so much hay was made of that it follows her around, yes?
Quote:

Brown referred to an earlier Newsweek cover, which featured Palin looking fresh and glamorous, saying that while Palin enjoyed the attention, giving the photographer many poses to work with, Bachmann turned up offering little time or effort.
Ah, so she DID pose for it of her own free will. That takes them off the hook PARTIALLY if she didn't give them enough poses.
Quote:

'Sarah Palin had a lot of time for the photo shoot. She loved to pose for the pictures. She's very compelling before a camera and all the pictures of her, to be honest, were really great. I think Michele Bachmann is a very strong looking woman but it's about the time you want to give a photographer.

'If you want to give the photographer two seconds and a snap it's hard to get a big range of photographs but with Sarah she spent a whole afternoon with him.'

That makes perfect sense. Palin knows how to play to the crowd and how to sell herself; that would be a priority with her, while Bachmann seems to run more "on the fly" and hasn't had the practice of posing and publicity (yet).

Responding to our local troll is silly; try to bear in mind, he says these things DELIBERATELY to goad you guys. Works every time, don't it? You/I explain things to him once, he still says the same things; you go on explaining the same thing over and over, he continues to make his same original statement, OR doubles down on it. Now he's saying they didn't just "defend" Bachmann, they are "siding with her"...don't you see it? He really plays you guys for fools over and over and over, and you bite every time! I may bite ONCE, mostly for the sake of the truth, but beyond that, it's the old "fool me once..." (not the Bush version, the REAL one ;o) )

Pizmo, excellent point! Given that, it explains a lot and makes more sense than it being a political ploy, thank you. The basic point is that Newsweek did a bad cover, whether for political reasons, because Bachmann didn't give their photog enough time, or they're garnering attention. Raptor's right in that it's not really much of an issue; it got made an issue, Mike used it to score a political point, Raptor couldn't do other than respond and expanded it to people "defending" and "siding with" Bachmann, and it BECAME an issue here (as it has in so many other political conversations, obviously). Beyond the feuding and firestorm, it's an amusing diversion and Newsweek deserved to be "tch, tch"ed, but that's all, to me. And Stewart did a GREAT bit on it. What's amusing to me is that the entire bit started with him talking about how much the right enjoys complaining about how they're treated, and the picture of her made of words. Score one, Jon!

Exactamundo!!! Who reads Newsweek anyways?! LOL!!

Though I hate attack ads and propagandic spin by the media (Mostly Left leaning - except for Fox Spews), it is pretty hilarious that she actually does look like that. I mean most of our politicians look like some version of Ogra or the Skeksis from the Dark Crystal LOL.

My take on this whole discussion in a nutshell is that it really isn't about Newsweek mocking Bachmann, it's about magazines and news agencies once again spinning someones appearance to push forward an agenda. She's a big girl and I haven't read or heard a peep out of her, so I'm not sure this is a "woman bashing" issue, nor do I think she has thin skin. It's another political assassination attempt by the media puppet-masters. I just wish journalists would take their credibility back and move back to reporting news and away from sensationalizing or spinning news. Let the candidates crash and burn on their own merits.

Then again, they (the journalists and editors) are all bought and paid for by the Murdochs and the Soros'.

Just my 2 cents for what it's worth LOL!!!

Might as well get used to it, Rap. You'll be seeing it right through 2012.

The Democrats have had very little success to tout since their big 2008 win, and no major initiatives enacted. so all they can do is go to full attack mode.

Health Care reform ended up a gimme for the insurance companies. Recovery only worked if you're on the boards of GM, Chrysler, or a big bank. We're involved in more wars than in 2008, and killing more folks in Pakistan with drones. Gitmo is still open. Unemployment's still high. Our AAA rating is gone bye-bye. Not a great record of accomplishment to run on next fall.

But you're neither left nor right, isn't that what you say? So of course the Republicans had nothing to do with healthcare not being "Medicare for all" or a public option, weren't the "Party of Hell No", had nothing to do with STOPPING any and all Democratic initiatives, filibustering everything under the sun, or creating the climate that the ratings services said CAUSED them to downgrade us, right? Of course; it's all the Dems fault--no, wait, it's all OBAMA's fault--Republicans had nothing to do with it. Yeah, sure.

The saddest thing of all is Dems most likely won't act like the right has, whenever we get another Republican President, and the Repubs will get to take credit for everything they accomplish. Works for them! You betcha.

Someday, instead of reading that one party had zero success (which ultimately means no party had success), we'll read that our country had success during a given period.

The old saying, "It takes 2 to tango" rings true each and every day. Sadly ebcause each party feels it is necessary to entrench themselves in their minority leadership dogma (in minority, I mean that our representatives regardless of party don't listen to the whole of their constituency).

Every presidency we seem the same old tripe, "This party is evil incarnate..NO that party is evil incarnate". I think they all are. Eventually "We the People" will reach a point where there is no more tripe allowed, then we'll hear a pin drop LOL, that is as the politicians stand on a hill over looking Washington and the capitals of each state as their buildings burn.

OR

They will learn that there is something to be gained by legitimate compromise, rather then teh smoke and mirrors of the Pork compromises we have seen over the last 20 years or so.

Bingo.
She's a fuckin lunatic, and they represented her accurately - which is, it seems to be, most folks problem with it, no one wants to admit more than half our so-called representatives, and those who wish to be, actually belong in a rubber room somewhere instead of the halls of power.

And I think press and publications who cower from facing and acknowledging that fact, who don't have the guts to call them out on it, have failed in their civic duty as a free press.

Although let's be honest here, it's far, far more one party that throws a hissy when their true colors shine through the mask and folks see em for the neo-feudal-fascist bastards that they are, cause the liberal wackjobs on the other end all but revel in that classification.

So mostly, it's about DISHONESTY, Perfidy, which is kinda universal, but the abject, overblown and melodramatic denials of the GOP are about as convincing as those of any caught red handed crook, and all the more offensive cause they PRETEND to a moral standard damn few of them even make a pretense of holding.

So this ain't about MIS-representation, this is outrage over ACCURATE representation, a publication refusing to shovel the agreed-upon measure of bullshit, and IMHO refreshing for that reason - our so-called leaders and would be leaders NEED to be mocked, sneered at, and shamed for their arrogance, their incompetence, their insanity, and it's about damn time someone did.
