Pretty desolate landscape. Would be neat if we were able to check out the geology and see what it was like long ago. Of couse, eventually we probably WILL.

Really? I mean, point about the blue sky, but we're questioning now whether NASA is really even sending robots into space?

I mean, with humans in space, you maybe had some good reasons to question, reasons I don't agree with, but reasons none-the-less. But why would NASA fake robotic Mars photos?

The text explains why the sky apears "blue", but of course, it was written by Jews, the robots are Jews and they left a Jewish flag there even though they did'nt go there.

To keep you paying your voluntary income taxes to the private foreign jewish "Federal" Reserve Bank. They prefer that to violent Revolution and hanging them till their heads pop off like we did to "Saddam Hussein".

The problem with robots is there's no air on Mars so how the frak do robots land on Mars using PARACHUTES?

It's impossible to land on Mars or Moon using rockets, just like its impossible to take off from the Moon using a teeny tiny itty bitty rocket BETWEEN THE ASTRONOTS LEGS AT PENIS LEVEL WITHOUT ANY SOUND AND WITHOUT ANY FIREBALL/EXHAUST.

NASA's blue sky on "mars" looks just like Earth, ie Antarctica

100,000 sq mi Antarctic Desert is biggest desert of the world, where nobody can see you fake a Mars mission. 21st July 1983 was the day when one of the coldest temperatures was recorded that was −89.2 °C.

HIGH-LARIOUS!!!!

I was looking for those little alien dudes from galaxy quest in the pics.

Gwen DeMarco: Look at that. Look. They look like little children.

Sir Alexander Dane: Could they be the miners?

Fred Kwan: Sure. I mean, they're like three years old.

Sir Alexander Dane: Miners, not minors!

Fred Kwan: You lost me.

Guy Fleegman: I don't like this. I don't like this at all.

Gwen DeMarco: Oh, they are so cute!

Guy Fleegman: Sure, they're cute now. But in a second they're gonna get mean, and they're gonna get ugly somehow, and there's gonna be a million more of them

Um. There is atmosphere on Mars. It's mostly carbon dioxide, so it's just not human breathable air.

But then, that's how the Earth way back when was according to the geological stratum, so.

If there were no air, you'd be right, parachutes wouldn't work and instead to slow down they'd have to try to position themselves and fire some rockets, difficult since I'm pretty sure they use all their fuel getting there.

Why?

You might have a point about the lunar landers, I'll have to look up how they were supposed to work and see if that makes scientific sense.

Don't be ridiculous, Mars has terrible dust storms, the flag would be tattered and covered with red dust by now. I suspect it was retrieved by astronauts from the secret martian base discovered recently.

Mars' atmosphere is less than 1% as thick as Earth's, which is not enough CO2 "air" on Mars to slow a parachute, which may be why so many landers crashed officially (or do you really think NASA can't tell the difference between US and Metric?).

You should know that density is different then pressure, and that even with a less dense atmosphere a parachute would just need to be larger.

How many parachutists bail out at 10,000 mph, as required for Mars?

Quote:

With an historic failure rate of 66 per cent, the entry, descent and landing phase of the Mars mission is the most dangerous six minutes of the nearly two-year journey. Because the Mars surface pressure is less than one per cent of Earth’s—not enough to slow a spacecraft down—the engineering challenge is to find a way to slow the Mars lander from its entry velocity that might be in excel of of 19,000 kilometres an hour to zero impact in just six minutes.

It's certainly an engineering challenge.

And the radiation on Mars is almost as bad as the Moon, which has higher gamma radiation than the surface of the Sun, according to NASA. Even NASA says its impossible for humans to go to Mars.

You lied when you pretended you didn't go back and add the word " there " to one of your sentences. I posted it once, so proof is already given.

As for the reference to Sheila Jackson Lee's infamous comment on the Mars rover, and the US flag... If you have to have it explained to you, I guess you'll never get it.

BYTEMITE

For a comparison of numbers, a meteorite falling through the earth's atmosphere, starting itself at over 10,000 mph, will eventually slow to terminal velocity.

To not reach terminal velocity, a meteorite has to be massive; alternatively, man made objects that aren't massive have to be greatly accelerated.

Impacting on earth at higher than terminal velocity speeds from orbit is called hypervelocity.

Studies have been performed, and there have been many successes of man-made re-entry and landings on earth starting at hypervelocity.

Mars' atmosphere begins at a higher altitude than Earth's, and drag acts on the robot lander for a longer period of time. Also, the atmosphere at the surface is about equal to the atmosphere above Earth at about 35 km.

Also, the article you linked does NOT say it only takes six minutes for reentry into Mars: what's more, that lander is intended for people, not a robot (therefore must be heavier to carry fuel and food and earth air). Lastly, to accommodate the heavier weight of the crewed Mars lander, they're proposing rocket counterfiring during descent.

You can argue whether we can land people on Mars due to radioactivity, and you can also argue that robots won't do well with the radiation of the solar wind. But I don't really think the question here is the possibility of decelerating from orbital velocity to terminal velocity, which happens all the time.
