Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

Why conservative predictions about the election fared so badly:

Quote:

It is easy to close oneself off inside a conservative echo chamber. And right-leaning outlets like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh's show are far more intellectually closed than CNN or public radio. If you're a rank-and-file conservative, you're probably ready to acknowledge that ideologically friendly media didn't accurately inform you about Election 2012. Some pundits engaged in wishful thing; others feigned confidence in hopes that it would be a self-fulfilling prophecy; still others decided it was smart to keep telling right-leaning audiences what they wanted to hear.

...

On the biggest political story of the year, the conservative media just got its ass handed to it by the mainstream media. And movement conservatives, who believe the MSM is more biased and less rigorous than their alternatives, have no way to explain how their trusted outlets got it wrong, while the New York Times got it right. Hint: The Times hired the most rigorous forecaster it could find.

The whole article's a good read: http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/11/how-conservative-m
edia-lost-to-the-msm-and-failed-the-rankandfile/264855

Oh, missed this one, Hero predicts things won't go Obama's way in the swing states:

Hero - "Oh Obama, my old friend. Have you not heard the old Kilingon proverb that revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It is very cold...in Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, and possibly Pennsylvania if turnout is low in Philadelphia."

Is it me, or did Obama win every one of those states?

Riona - "remember how a while ago everyone said "allowing same sex marriage isn't a slippery slope thing, allowing that won't allow other things"? Now they're saying, "well go for it guys, no holds barred!". Next they'll want to lower the age of concent so we can be like Pakistan, where 12 year olds marry 50 year olds."

Hero foresees an Israeli attack on Iran: "They (Iran) know Isreal is coming, we know Isreal is going..."

Auraptor, on a possible conservative post-election exodus:

"I suspect many folks who we've never even heard about will do exactly that, sell what they can and get the hell out of dodge..."
"...we may not know their names, or even the companies they run, but if they do pull up and 'Shrug', it's going to cause some ripples."
"Rule of law and rights to property ownership are high on the list for countries to look into. It's gonna get bad here. Real bad."
"People who have worked their entire lives, very hard for their money, and yes, who DID build that, have an actual, tangible reason to be fearful of this President. He LITERALLY wants to take away from them what they earned."

The point of this thread is to be a public record of people's predictions. You can post your own, or other people's that you've read and found interesting, so that we can all see in months and years to come who turned out to be accurate in their predictions, and who didn't. It's a chance to stick your neck out, or stick other people's out for them if you think their comments come out of a deluded partisan bubble.

I have one rule, and that is that people post their predictions in red font. The idea of this is that the predictions will stand out and be easy to find and read, and then all discussion can happen around them. Besides that one rule I'll just make a general plea to posters to be faithful when quoting other people, and to keep flame wars to a minimum.

How to post in red font
It's quite easy, post in red font by putting the code font color=red inside triangle brackets like this: . That goes before the text you want to be red. To turn off font color use this code: /font color inside triangle brackets, to return to ordinary font.

Here's a couple of predictions I've read recently and found interesting, to get the ball rolling (I'm paraprashing, from memory):

Auraptor: "The GOP will beat Obama by double digits in November."
Storymark: "Mitt Romney will be the GOP's John Kerry."

Yes to Story's prediction, quite a resounding NO to Rappy's.

I predict that Gingrich, Paul, Romney & Santorum will be in a virtual dead heat before the Convention. The Republican party will drop them and nominate Arnold Schwarzenegger, pushing him as the governor who almost saved the California economy.

Air Force One will crash killing Obama on the same day that Biden suffers a heart attack with stroke. The Democrats will run Hillary Clinton.

Knowing that the neocon Republicans got us into this mess, very likely on purpose, and will continue to grind us down, I will vote Democratic no matter what.

Arnold will win by a substantial margin.

God will intervene to give Arnold the gifts of wisdom & humility. Arnold will tell Him to keep it, saying, "I've got this. You don't understand American politics anyway."

God will agree to Arnold's wishes; and I am not sacreligious enough to put words into His mouth as the Heavens close.

I realize this isn't the place to address this, but 538 blog had an interesting analysis on the state by state demographics. What I got out of it is that it doesn't help republicans that the red states are getting redder. OTOH it helps democrats that many many swing states are edging bluer.

NateSilver - "If the parties continue down the same paths, however, this won’t be the last election when most of the swing states turn blue."

The alternative path he suggests is if Republicans moderate their tone on social issues, and try to appeal to hispanics more - but that won't be easy given how deeply dug in conservatives are on these issues, it seems to me. Party civil war?

All in all I think my bold (pre-November) prediction is looking good:

Wow! Good article. Some highlights, if I may:

- Over time, the Senate--thanks to those wonderful square states out west--will trend toward 60 Republicans as the 30 red states elect Republicans and the 20 blue states elect Democrats. The anomaly of four Democratic senators hailing from Republican North and South Dakota will come to an end, as will the Republican-held Senate seat in Rhode Island.

- Abroad, four more years under President Bush will move America and the world towards greater free trade, spreading prosperity throughout the world and bringing more countries into the trading systems that require property rights and rule of law, draining the swamps that breed radicalism and terror.

- And a steady increase in the number of honest gun owners will continue to reduce street crime and make America safer.
[That's right. Because only the "honest" gun owners take advantage of loose gun regulations...]

- Four more years of President Bush will also accelerate one of the most important demographic changes in America over the past 20 years: the number of Americans who own stock.
[Just in time for the crash of 2008 woo-hoo!]

- According to pollster Scott Rasmussen, if you own $5000 in stock you are 18 percent less likely to be a Democrat and more likely to be a Republican. Every demographic group, including race, gender, age, and income, becomes more Republican with stock ownership.

- With the end of 40 years of Democratic gerrymandering, states in which a majority of the congressional popular vote goes to the GOP now award a majority of congressional seats to the GOP, too. Republican-led redistricting in Texas will add an additional five to seven Republican House seats over the next few cycles. Redistricting in Texas and throughout the country ensures that Republicans will continue to control the House through 2012.
[He's part right on this one, that the gerrymandering will be done by the Repubs to their benefit.]

Not trying to amp the pressure. Just was reminded by your latest experiment thread, and started to wonder if I had missed something.

Robert Shrum (Daily Beast) - "Clinton is the nominee the GOP least wants to face. In their darkest nightmares, they see 16 years of Democratic presidents."

Robert Shrum - "Republicans are driven by the politics of personal destruction. It's all they've got—and it's red meat for the media. If the target isn’t Clinton, it's Obama—or the other Clinton. And the Republicans will do it again and again—to President Obama in these years and maybe to President Clinton at the start of her second term in 2021."

I don't know though. I suspect that River/Jong posted this with full knowledge of how ironic/ridiculous it is. Cause really, it is so over the top, and even River isn't that stupid.

What's really "over the top" is what a pathetic little asswipe you are for monitoring peoples' posts like it's your major accomplishment in life. What a truly empty and hopeless existence you must have.

Here's another major prediction for ya to document .... a year from now you'll still be a useless piece of shit without an original thought in your stupid head. And River/Mal, don't you dare not be here in a year, because I know my prediction about you will have been realized in spades.

Translation:

"WAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! I got caught being a moron so my only recourse (if I knew how to use the word "recourse") is to whine about unfair it is for people to use my own words as evidence as to how wrong I am!!!"

Wasn't this just 100% predicted as the SOP of the Rap? Have you fallen so far River, so that all of your personnas are acting exactly alike? Stop it already. You're making it too easy.

Ok River, Rue, Signy, Kiki, Magons and whatever other names you use to spread your liberal whoredom around here. And yes, we'll see if you're still a useless piece of shit on 6/28/14.

Isn't it funny how right wingers react when they're called out on their shit? Instead of trying to deny it, they accuse others of doing exactly what they have done.

I am myself and no other. My posts are quite different in material and tone and intent from those others. You, however, are quite indistinguishable from River and Rap. I imagine you tried hard at first, perhaps kept notes on what these "posters" were like so they'd have their own voices, but as the years went by you've gotten careless. At this point they all the same voice, and the way they've made such sudden and extreme shifts to become exactly like you lately makes it clear.

Back to the drawing board, dear.

In any case, I'll see you in June 2014 when the Hispanics of America overwhelming turn their support to that all-embracing minority-loving big-tent Republican party. [/Mal4prez's ironic tone]

I'll add pathological liar to your list of accomplishments. There is NO difference between you and any of the dozen or so twitchy liberal psycho snits who pathetically stalk, at every opportunity, the small group of Conservatives who post regularly. I've learned to see you all the same because you ARE ALL exactly the same.

I actually wish the Conservative Rivers and Kaneman would come back just to balance things out a bit. But they haven't been seen here for many years, so perhaps I should just create a whole bunch of 'Rivers" and 'Kanes' for you libs to deal with every day. The names will have to be slightly different than the originals of course, but it won't matter. Maybe a few AURaptor, Six, Whozit, and Wulf clones too just for added giggles.

I'd forgotten about kaneman. Let's see, if I remember my history right, after he was banned R6213 showed up, after that was RL, and now ... TADA! YOU! All posting exactly the same way!

THANKS! for reminding me of one of the sock puppets.

And laughing even more about Jong and how much he misses all his socks. Wow, what a place RWED is! That's almost as good as OPPYH being sad about Rappy leaving back in the day.
