The need to appear spontaneous and genuine just doesn't work for all of them. It's not fair.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

He clarified it, and I understand the clarification. It was just stupid to say that way. If he had said something along the lines of "Unemployment is just part of the picture; it's important, but I'm looking at all the things we need to change, not just that one" it might have come across better, and not made fodder for MSM to jump all over.

Unfortunately, even when they have something valid to say, these candidates have a knack of not being able to say it in a way that doesn't cause controversy. It shows a certain lack on their part; a lack which I think indicates one of their biggest problems. It indicates their actual feelings/motivations, which isn't what politicians are supposed to do. It's a sad slate of candidates this time around, which is a shame, because it makes them all look like buffoons at one time or another. Romney is unquestionably the worst, and it seems when watching him that he's so off balance he's desperately reaching for the ability to say things "right". The "trees are the right height" made me sorry for him, you can see so clearly that he's completely lost and reaching for something...he doesn't even know what...to ingratiate himself.

Santorum is to me the worst; I don't know if he has ANY education on the things necessary to run a country, all he shows is his knowledge and focus on "social" issues, which makes people fear what he'd do about those if he had the power. I certainly fear him, because I haven't seen or heard anything from him that shows he's even well versed in the Republican ideals for improving the country, only that he wants to be, as the current joke indicates, "Pope in Chief". Ironically, given his focus, that's quite probably but he WOULD be like: an ultra-religious type intending to impose his specific values on the nation. Scary, that.

Sigh...again with the misquoting to make the point you so desperately need to make. He didn't PROMISE anything, he PREDICTED that he'd be a one-term President if he couldn't fix the problem fast enough. He couldn't, he knew that, nobody could. If you truly think McCain would have done better, you're blindness is so pervasive it's hopeless.

What's funniest (and saddest) about it is that he knew nobody could fix it soon enough for the American people, and his prediction came true, except that we don't yet know whether he'll BE a one-term President. If he's not, it could well indicate that the Republicans haven't come up with anyone the American people believe could do better. Which might well make them smarter than you guys.

When I read this I got an image of Santorum pushing women and children out of the way to get a seat in the last life boat.

I heard an *interesting* scenario where Santorum and Gingrich would work a deal so Santorum would become the nominee and Gingrich would be his VP. Mark McKinnon former campaign advisor for Bush, on Colbert offered it up. Essentially no one has an outright delegate win before their convention, so during the convention Gingrich doing anything he can so Romney doesn't win, gives his delegates to Santorum. Then it's a quick slog to the white house.

It's worth watching to see what Colbert's reaction is to this idea, go to minute 5:40
