“After years of secretly monitoring the public, we were astounded so many people would willingly publicize where they live, their religious and political views, an alphabetized list of all their friends, personal emails addresses, phone numbers, hundreds of photos of themselves, and even status updates about what they were doing moment to moment. It is truly a dream come true for the CIA.”
-Deputy CIA Director, Christopher Sarinsky

No Such Agency: Obama Is Building the Country’s Biggest Spy Center in Utah

Watch What You Say warns James Bamford discoverer of Operation Northwoods

The heavily fortified $2 billion center should be up and running in September 2013. Flowing through its servers and routers and stored in near-bottomless databases will be all forms of communication, including the complete contents of private emails, cell phone calls, and Google searches, as well as all sorts of personal data trails—parking receipts, travel itineraries, bookstore purchases, and other digital “pocket litter.” It is, in some measure, the realization of the “total information awareness” program created during the first term of the Bush administration—an effort that was killed by Congress in 2003 after it caused an outcry over its potential for invading Americans’ privacy.

But “this is more than just a data center,” says one senior intelligence official who until recently was involved with the program. The mammoth Bluffdale center will have another important and far more secret role that until now has gone unrevealed. It is also critical, he says, for breaking codes. And code-breaking is crucial, because much of the data that the center will handle—financial information, stock transactions, business deals, foreign military and diplomatic secrets, legal documents, confidential personal communications—will be heavily encrypted. According to another top official also involved with the program, the NSA made an enormous breakthrough several years ago in its ability to cryptanalyze, or break, unfathomably complex encryption systems employed by not only governments around the world but also many average computer users in the US. The upshot, according to this official: “Everybody’s a target; everybody with communication is a target.”

The yottabyte (derived from the SI prefix yotta-) is a unit of information or computer storage equal to one septillion (one long scale quadrillion or 1024) bytes (one quadrillion gigabytes). The unit symbol for the yottabyte is YB.

As of 2012, no storage system or network has achieved even one thousandth of a yottabyte (a zettabyte) of information. The combined space of all computer hard drives in the world was estimated at approximately 160 exabytes in 2006[1], and as of 2009, the Internet was estimated to contain close to 500 exabytes.[2]

Assuming a weight of 0.25 gram for a microSD card, a yottabyte's worth of data storage on the current 64 GB microSD cards would weigh just under 4 million tons, or about two thirds the weight of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Now it's coming out that the Flame worm looks to be done by the same folks responsible for the Stuxnet worm. Sources say they share about 85% of the same "Digital DNA" (coding, line for line, modules with the exact same names, etc.).

So it's entirely likely this one was another DARPA project that escaped the lab, a computer virus doing what a real-world virus would do: survive and thrive. A man-made cyberhazard.

How long until the wrong worm gets out of, and then INTO, the wrong computers and networks, and really wreaks some havoc?

I've had this theory for a while now that if you remove internets and TV and electrical devices that a tenth of a percent of the population would turn into Reavers...

Wishy hold a great big giant plug.
Anybody wanna test this theory??!

Haha.... reavers

I have to say that the Onion video PN posted was clever as hell.

I'm glad I'm not a paranoid wacko like I was before. If I was, I wouldn't be able to laugh as much at this video as I did today. I'm not laughing now because it's BS... I'm laughing because everything said in it could totally be true, and even though it's not exactly true-as-stated in the video, the capability is there to do everything they jokingly suggest, and there are people "on top" with just as much assets and ambitions as they're lacking in scruples and conscience that would see that it happened.

I'm laughing because this is the type of stuff I would post about constantly here in the RWED 5 years ago.

Ready to pull the plug Wish?????

I'm game.

3..... 2..... 1......

Facebook Spies On Chats For Suspicious Behavior

Citing the need to watch for potential sex offenders, Facebook is using software that tracks private conversations for suspicious behavior and keywords before alerting Facebook employees who then decide whether to pass the information on to police.

The revelation was divulged during a Reuters interview with the social networking giant’s Chief Security Officer Joe Sullivan.

Despite the article acknowledging the fact that Internet-related sex crimes against children are on the decrease, the story cites a barrage of cases where children have been groomed online before revealing that Facebook “users could be unnerved about the extent to which their conversations are reviewed, at least by computer programs.”

The software used by Facebook to monitor conversations works by searching “for improper communication” and analyzing “patterns of behavior.”

Words or phrases considered vulgar or an attempt to exchange personal information are red flagged and brought to the attention of Facebook employees, who then decide whether the content is worthy of being brought to the attention of law enforcement.

Too many messages sent without response also sets off an alarm that characterizes the content as suspicious.

The article does not divulge whether or not archives of chat records are stored and for what length of time, but adds that similar software is used by other social networking websites.

On its website, Facebook acknowledges that it shares information about users even in the absence of a court order or other legal request.

“We may also share information when we have a good faith belief it is necessary to prevent fraud or other illegal activity, to prevent imminent bodily harm, or to protect ourselves and you from people violating our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. This may include sharing information with other companies, lawyers, courts or other government entities.”

Facebook has been caught in a number of privacy controversies in recent years.

Back in February, the company angrily denied a report by the Sunday Times which claimed Facebook was secretly reading texts sent by users of its Android app.

The U.S. government is actively involved in soliciting information from Facebook. Last month, the State Department issued a procurement request seeking tools that can provide “deep analysis of topics, conversations, networks, and influencers of the global social web.”

Privacy advocates like Wikileaks’ Julian Assange have repeatedly warned that social networks like Facebook and Twitter are little more than huge spying databases used by intelligence agencies to glean personal information.
