Keep the Shiny side up

Saw a story on the local news this evening about a couple of young guys who lined up at the Apple store last night and then sold their places in line today for over $300.00.

They were also interviewing other folks in line who jusy HAD to have the iPhone 5 the first day or they seemingly couldn't function.

Yesterday the story was about a couple of guys who were selling fake iPhone 5s (that were about $20.00 of cheap electrics that'd throw an image on the screen, but in good fake Apple packaging) out of the back of a truck to folks who apparently figured they'd stolen them.

Admittedly I'm a Luddite who uses my cell phone mostly as a phone, but the lengths folks are going to to have the first iPhone 5 are kind'a scary. I'm betting there will shortly be snatch and grab robberies outside the Apple stores. Don't really see the point.

I'm kind of a geek for tech (redundant?), but I don't get it.

Probably because the LAST thing I'd use a smartphone for is... well, a *phone*.

I like my iPod, and use it for lots and lots of things - calculator, level, star map (celestial stars, not celebrities), calendar/planner, flashlight, alarm clock/timer, etc.

And gradually my Kindle is replacing that. I like the Kindle's larger screen (between an iPhone and an iPad in size). I was kind of hoping the i5 would be bigger, size-wise.

The media are doing their part in all this as well. Nothing draws a crowd like a crowd.

I didn't know that his supreme darkness and the old ones had entered the cell phone biz. It's about time, this running for president thing isn't working out for him, even if he always wins, no one knows it's him, and the people just end up going mad in their frenzy and attacking each other, not that this would be like his plan or anything, I'm sure it's just an accident of Pentathaganals. Must go draw Pentathaganals. Illuminated by the blood dripping moon on the roof of awoooo!

Yes Rap, that too. The media loves apple and worships jobs for the creation of itunes. He saved not just the market for the industry licensing fees for records, but by extension all of IP licensing fees, from the jaws of napster. I have my own thoughts on that, but that's why they love apple. I like mine because it's nice technology, but I switched to buying samsung about a year and change back, maybe two years back, just about exactly. I got really annoyed at apple at their failure to support their own products after more than a couple of years, and I was also annoyed at the closed shop attitude at the istore.

Not surprising.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

At a certain point, I'm sure we'll all have to have smart phones, or no phone at all, because service providers won't be offering or supporting the old "dumb" phones anymore.

I don't *mind* smart phones, but I just don't have any real need for one. Mostly because I already pay for internet and phone coverage, and don't really feel like adding ANOTHER data plan to what I'm already paying for.

I could probably simplify a bit and cut down on the number of devices I tote around with me (MacBook, cell phone, Kindle, and iPod), but in truth those only go to work and back with me. If I'm going out, or going out of town, I might take the phone and iPod (handy for a car stereo on long trips)

So I'll likely end up getting a smartphone when I'm all but forced to.

But you don't have time to respond elsewhere.

Yeah, Story - he's just not the least bit interested in what Mitt thinks or whether Lyin' Ryan is getting booed off the stage. Mitt declares himself unqualified to be President? Rappy does not care, because he'll support his Mittsiah no matter what!
