Keep the Shiny side up

Hamas commander killed in air attack.

Rocket attacks on Israel and heavy air attacks on Gaza.

And looks like Egypt will back Gaza. BBC has noted that the Egyptian government includes a strong Muslim Brotherhood component, and the Muslim Brotherhood was one of the progenitors of Hamas.

So. Just more saber rattling and swapping a few casualties, or Arab-Israeli war number ???.

i wouldn't expect Egypt to get directly involved now. They get more status and talking points by sitting back and letting Israel do their normal overkill. After the likely Israeli incursion the Muslim Brotherhood Govt. can rally more support from more moderate states.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

This is a war of choice. Netanyahu made a huge stink about Iran, but didn't get a hearing in the Obama WH. So he took his dog-and-pony show on the road, went to the UN and got laughed at. He made the fatal mistake of backing Romney.

There he is- facing election, with no war to jazz up the population and little backing from the USA. Since his Iran balloon deflated, he's had to find another dog to kick. Hence, Gaza. This is just like Reagan invading Grenada, and Thatcher picking a war in the Falklands. Gaza just happened to be there.

Barak was asked about speculations that the Gaza operation, launched 67 days before the Israeli general election, was politically motivated. Someone reminded him that before Operation Cast Lead, on the eve of the 2009 election, public opinion polls were predicting that Labor, under his leadership, would get between six and eight Knesset seats. Immediately after the operation, which as defense minister Barak conducted, his popularity soared and the polls predicted 15 or 16 Knesset seats for Labor. In the end the party got 13.

Yeah, all those rockets flying into Israel should have just been ignored by Netanyahu, huh ?

" Just GIVE them Gaza, and all will be rainbows and care bears over there! "

The only reason Hamas isn't using bigger, more destructive rockets is because they can't get their hands on 'em.

Yet.

Because Israel may just want to move back in, eventually ?

Got to save them for Teheran, Cairo, and Mecca. Before you near the end of your poker chips you go all in.

Interesting to see Obama, unfettered by running for President again, supporting Israel and their quest to stop the rocket attacks from Hamas. I would not have bet on that.

He knows how many Jews voted for him, and he wants to keep that advantage for the party. I'm pretty sure he detests the Jews of Israel, but, hey... in the game of politics, you do what's best for the party first.

At least, that's what Obama does.

That's not only smart, it's pretty honorable as well. Too bad that the last Republican President never had a single thought along those lines.

As for why this war started, Hamas itself cited, not any desire to improve the miserable conditions of the people under its charge, but a few ultra-Orthodox Jews praying on the Temple Mount — a theological rationale.
