You guys must be reeeeel bored, to spend this much time arguing with Rap over something so totally irrelevant and silly. I hope you enjoyed yourselves; you certainly gifted him with all the attention he so desperately craves.

Was just thinking when I left here yesterday how nice it had been because in several threads Rap had spouted idiocy and the discussion went right on as if he'd never been there. It was nice while it lasted...

Seriously!!!! Ok, when Sarah Palin invokes religion, and others say he's the devil, that gets nothing.

But when an entertainer, a comedian and actor, jokingly and playfully stirs the pot; people go bat-shit crazy. Well, I actually have come to expect this, especially after some "folk" were talking so much ca-ca about how Romney was "winning."

The best part was when Rove ended up yelling at Fox's News people when they called it for Obama in Ohio. Now that was "must-see" tv.

We don't need the Fiscal Cliff because people have gone over the deep end.

Cocoa Puffs anyone!!???

Since according to Rappy one person speaks for the whole group, here's the entire GOP admitting that voter suppression and disenfranchising black people was the entire aim of voter ID laws:

See? That must be how they all feel, because one or two people came right out and said it, so that's the party's official stance on it, and everyone who voted Republican agrees!

Admitting no such thing. I was actually pointing out that THE MEDIA and the Left view Obama as God himself.

Me offering up proof of exactly that doesn't in any way make YOUR case, that I some how view him that way. To the contrary, Obama isn't only human, he's a committed zealot to his own religion, collectivism.

And there's nothing 'so called' or alleged about either my atheist or Libertarian views. Yet another juvenile comment by your, as well as a big swing and a miss.

I gave a list of things which I hold to be true, in my " fantasy land ". Instead of dealing with what I posted, the issue was shifted, by deciding to play the angle of " fact " vs " opinion ".

You see, it doesn't matter which is which, those are the things I see as being true.

A logical reply would have been to point out what was " fantasy ", but instead, nickerson chose the cowards way out, and focus on the superfluousness matters, and so I just played along.

Won't work, but I'll try anyway.

The fact is that a few (in my opinion particularly stupid) deluded people view Obama as something more than a simple human being, and in some cases, as a "god". A few other people have used reference to him as a god in order to make a joke, political satire.

ASIDE FROM THOSE VERY, VERY FEW people, nobody else sees Obama as a "god", period. Those very few people have made news for two reasons: 1) Because their saying that is so absurd, and 2) Because the right wants to push the idea that everyone on the left believes that. If those were not the case, we'd never even hear about the tiny number of deluded people who think such things...a number which I am willing to bet can be counted on less than two hands.

So saying "you" or "the left" sees Obama as a god is asinine; neither "we" nor the vast majority of ANYONE ELSE, left, right or middle, ever considered Obama as anything more than he is: A moderate Democrat who was elected President. Twice, by the way.

That won't stop Rap from repeating this piece of idiocy over and over again, but why on EARTH would anyone go on encouraging him in this? Yeah, it's fun to mock him and argue with him, etc., but surely there are better topics on which to do so than this idiocy??

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.

Hello,

It's rather humorous. Even in a carefully selected excerpt, Mr. Raptor accidentally confesses his lie. For even were we to extract that excerpt and imagine it as the whole truth of Niki's proclamation, absent the surrounding context, we are left with this fact: That Mr. Raptor claimed 'Many' and in his choicest excerpt of Niki's writing, she claims 'few.' And hence, the agreement he craves to prove by removal of context turns to dust at the instant he claims it.

Perhaps he will commit his surgery of reality more carefully next time, lest his Doublethink be subject to collapse. That would be Ungood for him.

Re: "Halo" imagery - I note that everyone else has failed to mention that the media took it to such extremes with shrub that even the common folk noticed and thought it out of sorts.

Kinda pisses me off one thing though - up till the attempt to subvert democratic process FAILED, the media having some idea of what was up and thinking it was going to work that way was pretty damn hostile to Obama, although Romney kept doing stupid shit and making himself an easier target, obviously...
But now out of fear he might hold a grudge of course they're playing softball right now, which is about to be expected of the gutless mainstream media at any turn - what annoys ME is that some of the alternate and second line press are a bit skittish about pressing home on THIS administrations misconduct and I cannot abide that - this is, mind you, more than anything else why Bradley Manning has been subjected to mistreatment, as a public example.

Worth noting that in order to continue his sharp and accurate criticism, Glenn Greenwald felt the need to leave the damn country.

Of course, it's no point trying to discuss media biases and failures with a rightwingnut in play, since anything short of sychophantic bootlicking of their cause 24-7-265 is in their eyes an affront.
Because of that, their pissing, moaning and whining wrecks discussion of the problem and without that, subverts any means to ADDRESS it.

And that annoys me worse.

Further on this: For clarity's sake, lest he claim I DID agree with him, Rap has made the following statements:
Quote:

...for pointing out how the Left views this man. They were just hiding from the truth, as usual.

Laugh at me for being absolutely, 100% right ?

I was asked to back up my comment that the Left views Obama as a god like figure, or to BE God himself

It's not just the religious freaks on the Left who are calling Obama ' God ™ '. That's the significant point you're ignoring here.

The point of this thread is to show how many on the Left view Obama as god himself, on Earth.

I was actually pointing out that THE MEDIA and the Left view Obama as God himself.

I hereby rebut every single one of those statements. "The Left" does NOT view Obama as God, a god, or anything else. Aside from a VERY FEW crackpots, nobody views him that way.

Unlike Palin, who was anointed before an entire congregation (anyone remember this?)

There are so many examples of MANY on "the Right" actually, seriously viewing Palin as some kind of prophet, diety, whatever, that it only takes a couple of minutes to offer them:
Quote:

“Sarah is that standard God has raised up to stop the flood. She has the anointing … Back in the 1980s, I sensed that Israel’s little-known Benjamin Netanyahu was chosen by God for an important end-time role. I still believe that. I now have that same sense about Sarah Palin.” Jim Bramlett, an author and former vice president with the Christian Broadcasting Network.

This e-mail isn’t the only instance of Palin being seen this way. Sarah Posner, who has an interesting article about Palin’s time as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, in Salon today, previously wrote about this phenomenon on TAPPED: “Many evangelicals are talking about Palin being like the biblical Queen Esther, who saved the Jews from the genocidal Haman, and believe that Palin has come, like Esther did, ‘for a time such as this.’ (The same narrative built around George W. Bush when he was running.)” http://www.salon.com/2008/09/18/palin_email/

Quote:

When McCain announced that he had chosen Palin as his running mate, I was reminded of the biblical story of Deborah, the Old Testament prophet who rallied God’s people to victory at a time when ancient Israel was being terrorized by foreign invaders. Deborah’s gender didn’t stop her from amassing an army; she inspired the people in a way no man could.

"The beauty queen hidden away until an appointed time. The newscaster training, her rise in service, etc. But I just think her authenticity resonates with believers. They feel like she is real. I believe many feel she has been hidden for this time in accordance with God's plan." http://prospect.org/article/sarah-palin-anointed] Is she, like the ancient Queen Esther, destined to be the matriarch of her people? As was the case with Esther, is it the same with Sarah? Has she been lifted up for such a time as this? (Esther 4:14)

This God-fearing woman, who many voters believe is an answer to their prayers, has special needs. Her husband and average American family have been advanced into a modern-day David-meets-Goliath scenario. This diamond in the rough appears wired to answer the gigantic call, and if she has been lifted up for such a turbulent time as this, then bipartisan prayer is the call of this all-important hour. (Columnist at WorldNetDaily) http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/sarah-palin-gift-god

Rap himself stated "Was he joking ? A little, sure, but probably not as much as you'd like for us to think." So he actually knows the truth of the matter, he is just, as usual, so desperate to find SOMETHING with which to diss "the Left" that he'll cling to any straw.

Give it up, tiny little man; yes, we don't "try dismiss" you, we Are "dismiss" you.

Hello,

Deifying Palin, or making her a Saint or Prophet?

I can't even consider this to be 'many.' Not any more than I'd consider a handful of sand on a beach to be a lot of sand. Even if you could find a multitude of grains in that handful, It just isn't 'a lot' when compared to the whole, and this is very much a game of ratios. I think you can find a few zealots anywhere who genuinely buy this kind of crap, but the vast majority don't.

What I do think is that 'many' in the right (a significant factor) seem to believe their philosophies are in alignnment with God, and have a tendency to assign their victories and machinations to God's will. I think this falls short of assigning deific qualities to candidates, though it squicks me out just the same.

Agreed. I stand corrected; my use of the word "many" was in response to the claim that "the left" (meaning all), etc. I probably should have said "many more...", but it is irrelevant in the end, you're right. And the reason "many more" viewed Palin the way they did than have ever called Obama a god is most likely as you stated, as well.

I stand corrected on those points. My effort was to show that far more on "the right" were quite serious in seeing Palin as some kind of savior, while it's only a few crackpots or people making JOKES about seeing Obama as some kind of diety. In other words, as always: perspective.

Agree, or disagree ?

AURaptor quote from "Agree, or disagree ?"

Quote:

He's speaking about a great deal of things which I see here every day.

Strongly held beliefs, belittling of those who hold opposing views, and how it's pointless to bludgeon those from the other side w/ insults and ridicule.

I know many are saying that I'm describing myself, and myself alone. While I can correctly state the opposite, and point right back at them.

And this gets us...where, exactly ?

I found a helpful diagram for the situation.

Except by insisting that they worship someone you despise and gathering evidence that their party worships him therefore they worship him, which suggests you think they have poor taste. By suggesting that it is "worship" it also belittles their beliefs, especially because you are purportedly atheist.

As such it actually does escalate the thing going on here, and works counter to your stated intention in the other thread.

Does it even matter if they do or if they refuse to admit it? Does it change anything for them that you think this, or change anything for you when you try to prove this?

Maybe then it's not getting any of you anywhere. *points back to suggestion made in other thread*

Not really. All they have to do is just admit that there's a segment ( rather large, even ) of Dems who DO in fact worship the guy.

it's not just ME saying it, wishing it were true. I merely am observing the fact, and offering up various pieces of evidence.

And this is THIS thread, not another thread.

Hmm.

I wouldn't know. Perhaps there is such a segment.

It does not seem to have any bearing on them though, or conversations you might have with them, since they say that as individuals they don't believe.

However, you may do as you like. Carry on.

A couple of examples does not make a whole segment, much less a "large" one. If that were so, good gawd, the "large segment" of right wingers who believe an enormous amount of truly insane things, many having to do with religion...you really want to go there?

No, you just want to snark. I don't know of anyone Democrat or otherwise, who in all seriousness "worships" Obama; there are many who support him, the majority of Democrats, I would guess, "accept" him as the better alternative, and there are even some Democrats who absolutely HATE him. That is the truth. That is also the truth with Republicans and Bush, and the number I could snark "worship" Reagan is pretty damned large; they've made an icon of him.

You like to point out instances which you INTERPRET as serious "worship", but they don't hold up, and even if they did, they are damned few. But keep right on with your game; why you need to keep repeating this, we'll never know, but if it does something for you, go right ahead. It will never make it any more true, and dredging this up from a year ago is truly inane and ridiculous. Your "contributions" here are essentially trolling, and nothing more.

Or, to put it more succinctly, "Everything Byte said."

Wait, I just watched it: This last one is of a kid SAYING A PRAYER FOR OBAMA:

"A prayer for President Barack Obama. Barack Obama, thank you for doing everything and all the kind stuff. Thank you for all the stuff that you helped us with. Thank you for taking the courage and the responsibility for everything you have done for us. And God has gave you special powers and you are going to handle it just fine. You are good, Barack Obama. You are great, and when you get older you will be able to do great things. Love, Steven."

Shit, he even mentions God, obviously he's not saying Obama is God, or a god, or whatever the hell... I didn't realize it until I bothered to actually play it, but it has nothing to do with Rap's supposed point!! How totally obsessive does one have to be to keep trying, and failing so miserably, to insist something is true which obviously isn't?? Weird...

Ahhh, looking back, I see Anthony explained it to me (how I miss him...):
Quote:

Mr. Raptor has a special application and vetting process which results in people being certified as 'Spokespersons and Representatives for 'the Left.'' This apparently includes african-american comedians in the list of representative spokespersons.

There is no such process for 'the Right,' thus protecting 'the Right' from derision based on the ludicrous comments of its membership.

Got it.

The kid is thanking Obama for the 'kind stuff', which is govt goodies and benefits. Bravo. He also thinks that God gave Barry 'special powers'. Hell, I bet Jr. thinks that Barry can walk on water, or even fly.

Sorry. He can't.

So, he's thanking WHO ? Barry, for all sorts of goodies, and also saying God granted him special powers to do greater stuff, when he gets older. I guess that means when Barry grows up ? If by doing great things, the kid here means play golf w/ Tiger Woods and body surf in Hawaii, then hell yeah. Barry's got a long future in front of him doing that.

"And all the kind stuff ... "

I've never heard food stamps, or any tangible inanimate thing, called 'kind'. On the other hand, gestures, actions, intentions and positions - which can be described as 'kind' - have all been called 'stuff'. Maybe you learned your English in an ESL class? That would explain your tortured interpretation of some very basic words.

The contortions you go through to claim that ' kind stuff ' doesn't mean free govt benefits, is classic.

Obama is a dictator. Demanding things be done his way, refusing to follow the law when it suits his needs, or declaring by decree through Executive Order things which go beyond the proper functions of his powers.

What's really sad is that this kid is being indoctrinated into the belief that a dictator can do pretty much what ever the hell he wants, and that it's " cool ".

Kiki, remember who you're trying to communicate with?

The only thing anyone could EVER thank Obama for HAS to be government freebies in his mind--the fact that it's never said and it's not true has NOTHING to do with anything. To even imagine that the kid might be thanking Obama for doing a good job as President and working for the betterment of the country can ONLY be a "contortion" to him.

Give it up; there's no logic in with a ; you will never get sense out of him.

Only, he hasn't. He's agitated the race issue, as only a community agitator can.

( He interjected himself in local issues, like saying the Cambridge Police acted "stupidly" , before knowing ANY of the facts. He then claimed Trayvon was the son he COULD have had, before pulling out all the race baiting stops by claiming HE could have been a drugged up thug whose impulse was to act violently FIRST, instead of merely going home... )

Black unemployment is double the national average, and will only increase as more illegals flood into the country and O-care crushes the incentive for business to hire full time employees.

I could go on and on, but you'll only ignore the facts, out of hand.

The kid thanks Obama for the kind stuff. So yes, it's said and yes, it's TRUE in what he meant. He SAYS that because he's parroting what his parent(s) have been saying, and likely still can't believe that whitey allowed a 1/2 black guy get elected, when America is the most racist, bigoted country on the planet. ( Again, from what crap he's likely been told )

For all the 10's of 1000's of football games which take place across the USA, I've yet to hear of one where a ref was killed and beheaded by fans after a match, as has taken place w/ soccer.

BARBARA WALTERS: Well, you've touched on it to a degree. He made so many promises. We thought that he was going to be - I shouldn't say this at Christmas time, but - the next messiah. And the whole ObamaCare, or whatever you want to call it, the Affordable Health Act, it just hasn't worked for him, and he’s stumbled around on it, and people feel very disappointed because they expected more.

It's very difficult when the expectations for you are very high. You're almost better off when they are low and then they rise and rise. His were very high and they’ve dropped. But you know, he still has several years to go. What does he have, three years, Piers? And, you know, there will be a lot of changes, one thinks in that time.

Soooo...

By William "Bill" Smatt, formerly a bigwig in Jamaica and currently a resident of Florida, who ran for Mayor in Miami Beach. His belief: that George W. Bush is the Messiah. Seriously. He wrote a book to prove it. God told him to do so.

Last page of the book:
Quote:

"This book is of divine inspiration and not for financial gain. I was instructed that someone needed to standup [sic] for the President and inform the public of the good the Messiah has done. .... GET OFF THE MESSIAH'S BACK!"

http://www.amazon.com/Messiah-Chosen-Republican-President-America/dp/B

"Bill"'s site (now gone) featured an autographed picture of Ronald Reagan and the elder Bush, along with a certificate recognizing Smatt's work with the Coalition for Peace Through Strength. So he's obviously an accepted figure on The Right.

So I guess now we can consider Bush the Messiah, because obviously The Right thinks he is...

(someone should tell Rap to give it up)

Ted Cruz is being praised as a Republican Jesus Christ willing to be crucified for the GOP’s ideology. In Iowa Friday at an annual Ronald Reagan fundraising dinner, Cruz, a Tea Party Republican freshman U.S. Senator from Texas, was hailed as a martyr willing to stand on principle rather than actually pass legislation or compromise.

The ballroom full of amens that followed went a long way toward explaining why Cruz has been greeted with such adoration by Tea Party crowds in recent days.

Quote:

In a sermon last year at an Irving, Texas, megachurch that helped elect Ted Cruz to the U.S. Senate, Cruz’ father Rafael Cruz indicated that his son was among the evangelical Christians who are anointed as “kings” to take control of all sectors of society, an agenda commonly referred to as the “Seven Mountains” mandate, and “bring the spoils of war to the priests”, thus helping to bring about a prophesied “great transfer of wealth”, from the “wicked” to righteous gentile believers.

Cruz spoke of “Kings who are anointed to go to war, win the war, and bring the spoils of war to the priests.” Discussion of the now-notorious speech by Rafael Cruz has missed the fact that Ted Cruz was subsequently blessed and anointed by prominent dominionist pastors, in effect as a “king” in the political/governmental sphere, at a special blessing ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Des Moines, Iowa, at a July 19th-20th 2013 rally designed to draw pastors into politics.

Quote:

GOP event hails ‘superhero’ Ted Cruz as right-wing Jesus

“Every time one of these guys attacks him, it’s good for him,” said one Iowa Republican operative. “He’s like a superhero. The more bullets that get shot at him, the bigger and stronger he gets.”

Quote:

When conservative activists compared Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) last week to Jesus Christ, it wasn’t the first time the first-term Republican senator was described in religious terms.

The tea party favorite’s father, the Cuban-born evangelical minister Rafael Cruz, has been promoting his son as a “political savior”

One of Rafael Cruz’s allies, the Christian Zionist pastor Larry Huch, predicted in August 2012 that, in the coming year, “God will begin to rule and reign. Not Wall Street, not Washington, God’s people and his kingdom will begin to rule and reign. I know that’s why God got Rafael’s son elected, Ted Cruz, the next senator.”

Several prominent Dominionist pastors blessed Ted Cruz in a July ceremony in Iowa, anointing the likely 2016 presidential candidate a “king” who would help usher in the kingdom of Christ.
