The suspects are accused of being involved with the production of the film in California, said Adel Al Saeed, official spokesman for the prosecutor's office.

Since the Egyptian citizens were tried in absentia, the sentence would be applied only if they returned to Egypt.

Oh, and maybe ya missed it, but the Egyptian court didn't just sentence Americans who were connected w/ this silly video, but they ALSO sentenced an American who has no ties to Egypt, the video, at all.

You seem to be confused. I'm comparing freedom of speech of those living in the US to freedom of speech of those living outside of the US. In both cases, those who were practicing their "free speech" (so called) were American citizens.
