You know what I do love though is fondu (might be from Austria, but the German resturant down the road makes the best fondu in the verse, its one of my favorite places to eat).

In high school we read a book that takes place in Florida and has all African American charactors and most of the book is written in dialect. We were each given a page to read out loud, practiced the night before. I wasn't sure what to do since my page had the charactors denegrating men in their lives and calling them the n word, and I wasn't sure what to do about that in my reading out loud. My dad said I should just say Negro instead and that's what I did. I think it was a good choice because I would have felt icky saying the n word, I don't really even like writing it, because its different than other ethnic slurs, it wasn't used because someone was fighting a war with someone, it was just used to be mean and cruel and stupid. . Worth noting is that my classmates and teacher thought my reading was better than anyone else in the class because I did the accent well.

^This. Exactly this. I struggled with whether or not to even type it, because I find it personally distasteful - the word leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I was raised around it, and it bothered the shit out of me how casually it was thrown around. But you're exactly right - it wasn't used to dehumanize an enemy we were at war with; it was intended to dehumanize a people we brought to this country in chains and kept that way for hundreds of years.

While I applaud the efforts of others to take the stain of hatred off the word, I just don't think it can be done. It would be like trying to pass off calling Jewish people "kikes" and "Christ-killers" and saying it's not offensive because you work with some Jews. Ummmm, no; it's still really, really offensive.

I agree Quicko, Jack isn't using it for fun with his African American friends, because they use it with each other. He's using it just like it was originally used, to denegrate and dehumanize. And if he tries to pretend he's not we all see through it. I might add that he's using it for denegration in ways that ... don't even really add up.

Sorry to offend you Kwick, but gas in Illinois by the Indiana border was 88 cents a gallon in 1997. I used to make trips with my friends 10 miles over the boarder to fill up my tank at 78 cents a gallon and pay 13 bucks for a carton of Marlboros....

I'm not sure where you lived in 1997, but that was the story here....

I understand it though. I grew up thinking handguns were illegal everywhere. Wasn't till I got older that I realized that outside of Washington D.C. I was in one of the only places in the country that banned conceal and carry.

Sorry to further insult you K, but nigga, nigga, nigga...

Am I spelling it right for you nigger?

I know I have people at my work that don't like when somebody says it in that context, but nobody says it to my face. It's funny to watch the useless white boys cringe while I say it and find out 2 weeks later one of the useless black boys had a problem with my use of the word second-hand.

Tracy is the only "man" I work with. Good for his dad for giving him a girl's name (boy named Sue)....

We both work our ass off and don't make shit...

He's one of 3 people I work with on a weekly basis that I feel carries his weight, although if I was any lazier I would admit that we all get paid way under our work-to-wage ratio. I know I won't make shit here and I need to find a better job.

We only see each other 2 times a week at most. He's the shit-talking type that ALWAYS finds weaker prey to pick on. In Jr. High, that "prey" was ALWAYS me for being so short and skinny. It feels nice to be on that side of the coin and even be felt as a "confidant". I just want to make my 8 bucks an hour with no drama.

I just recently found out that while I was on a voluntary leave from work during the holidayz that he made a 50 year old man cry. Of course he was black, or he would have held himself back like the whites at my work do against the lazy black employees...

He's not lazy. He's not dumb. The most I can tell is that he's probably drunk every night he comes to work. Whatever.... this gig is something way beneath me in the first place... I'm not one to judge. Nobody else seems to know it, but with a little bit of positive reinforcement and motivation he's an extremely hard worker.

Personally, I like having him around. I never boss him around, and I always converse with him. Hell... I even gave him tax advice since half of his employment income last year was unemployment.

It's nice working on slow nights without ten other people because even though I'm not a manger he just does what I say.

It's not a White/Nigger slave relationship before you say anything Kwick and Niki....

I work super hard, and others at work know it. Even though he's 20 years my senior, he's always asking me what to do next if our manager isn't around. Honestly, the nights when it's just me and him, we get more done per-person than any other 2 people combined.

I took a few weeks off after the election.....

Had to get my head back on straight with all the things in the world and especially my brother...

When I came back, his daughter was working "seasonally" for the same place.

I found out later, on a smoke break, that he was fighting back tears when some other shit talking Nigger told him that he couldn't possibly be the father while she was in the room....

I wish I was there that night.....

While everyone else stood around, I would have made a fool of that nigger...

Being embarrassed in Jr. High is something I remember. If it happened in HS, I took care of it by beating some ass that didn't expect it and never got bothered again.

Being embarrassed at my shit job in front of my daughter by some shit eating cunts that are making 8 bucks an hour is where I would go crazy..... He's one of the nicest people I know. When I work alone with him I keep talking positive shit and when we're all working together I manipulate them to talk about other things with ease.

It breaks my heart to know that his grown daughter saw his old man tear up at work.

Had I have been there, that shit would have been cut off way before that.

I like having the "stats" to be part of the in crowd now....

When they get out of line, I can tell them what shit-bag ass-fucks they're being and they back down.

I didn't see it..... but I have ways....

They've since made up, and I'm glad.....

I don't like calling in favors for BS, but this situation seemed to beg for it until it was resolved by itself...

Outside of work, I don't have a "crew", but over the years, with all the time I spend with work people, I come to see them all as family.

Bully's aren't usually tolerated. Until I'm around, they think they "rule the roost".....

If you seriously want to "change the game" nigga, let me know...

Most understand that mentality.... we get paid shit.... what good is king of the mountain here with no benefits and nearly no chance of advancement????

Just shut the F up and work hard like I do....

I still feel I have to make an example of him for making her dad cry in front of her.....

So let me get this straight...

You used to be bullied. Then you reacted by becoming a bully. You enjoy the company of a bully who makes adult people cry because now you've joined the "strong" side of the bullying game. But you also think it highly offensive when someone insults your bully friend and he cries. And you totally would have done something about it, too.

The hypocrisy is staggering.

(If I got anything wrong, it's because your post was barely coherent.)

Seriously, if you really are as drunk and hate-filled and foul-mouthed as you appear to be? This job isn't beneath you. It is right where you are. It might be above you.

Yeah... you're right.

I'm going to just crawl into my shell Kwick.

Its good that you want to stand up for your friend.

I think what Jack is describing is inner conflict more than blatent hipocracy. I think there's a piece of him that hated the bullying of his boyhood and doesn't like to see people he cares about experience it. But there's another piece of him which secretly enjoys power, enjoys the power he can excercise over others. I see a similar dycotomy in how he relates to women (info from previous threads), he is a cross of one extreme and the other and isn't sure what to do about the disenance he experiences. I would posite that his life experiences are continually shaped by a dycotomy within himself. That's not to say other people don't experience some conflict within themselves, but Jack your conflict seems to be an extreme example of such. I'm just expressing what I've observed, opinions on it are not what I'm trying to portray in this particular post. What do you think? Am I on to something here or am I full of it.

6string, youre an idiot.

A gun iz a bad invention. A device that inherently defeats its own purpose iz worthless and gunz do exactly that. The dummest thing to me iz the idea that gunz are for self defense.

Unless you can shoot a bullet thats on its way to you out uv the air, a gun can not defend you against another gun. So gunz only work az deterents, attack and counter attack.

But, virtually nobody besidez me on either side uv the issue haz figured this out, so youre idiocy iz excuzed.

Hate to break it to you Six, but Gun Control is not solely a "liberal" concern. Reagan signed a Gun Control law back in the waning days of his presidential run. Also the Military introduce Gun Control laws back in the 60s, and they're not exactly the bastions of liberal ideals.
