We already know from FBI statistics that the 1994 gun ban had no impact on the violent crime rate or shootings.

After Sandy Hook the NRA came out suggesting that more gun control was not the answer. They proposed that there be more training, that teachers and other faculty should be allowed to carry if they choose. Most importantly they said that every school should have a police officer.

Liberal want a comprehensive gun ban.

Two examples:

In Chicago, home of some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country there has been a massive increase in gun violence and ultimately this: www.cnn.com/2013/01/30/justice/illinois-teen-shot/index.htm

In Atlanta where an off duty law enforcement officer was at a local school there was this: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/world/55742445-68/shooting-atlanta-police
-says.html.csp

Seems to me the evidence is clear. Officer in every school and NO gun ban.

The so called assult weapons ban had so many holes in it that was not a ban at all. Plus other than assult weapons liberals are not calling for a comprehensive gun ban.

I know it is far easy for you to argue against strawman than it is to pull your head out of your ass and argue agaist anything real but can you at least try.

No, Liberal does NOT want a comprehensive gun ban. Nor do Liberals in general. Nor do I.

I read the legislation they proposed. It includes a ban on numerous rifles, shotguns, and handguns as well as magazine capacity and the private sale of weapons.

Its a comprehnsive gun ban. In New York they rushed through an even more extreme measure into law. Ban...its what they want. They'd go door to door if they thought they could get away with it (and we all know they've been talking about that).

The NRA would go door to door too...offering you classes and training and the opportunity to safely exercise your rights.

There's no such thing as "safely" when it comes to guns. Family members get shot by accident because "trained" users forget there's a bullet in the chamber of their semi-automatic handgun. Innocents get shot because those same handguns jam and misfire when they're not supposed to. Rifles and shotguns usually have "safeties", but people forget if they're on or off.

That actually happened to me years ago on a duck hunting trip in Maryland with my friend George and his black lab Buck. I "always" kept my Remington automatic shotgun with the safety on...always! We were going down the Transquaking River and got out of the john boat to set up our blind along the bank. As I hit the bank I stumbled and my shotgun went off. I could not believe it, having always been so damned careful about that safety. I could have killed my friend and/or his dog, but luckily the blast went straight into the marshy mud. It scared the hell out of me.

Every time I read a forum I become more and more afraid that if I somehow screw up in my logic that an army of 6-7 liberals will come in and crush me into dust.

Anyways on the topic of Assault Rifle bans I will simply say that it doesn't make much sense from my perspective. Guns are only present in a fraction of violent crimes as it is (2%), and I believe that only 2% of that 2% of violent crimes with guns are with Assault Rifles (numbers inside of numbers- mathception). Moreover most high grade hunting rifles (the ones you see in magazines and such) are AR-15 mods, which may land them under the bans.... Anyways I haven't done a bunch of research, and I will admit that I don't quite know why anyone would ever need an assault rifle, however given the lack of statistics as it pertains to crime, I don't see an adeuquate reason to ban them...

Their usage in overall crime is low, this is true. Their use in the ever-growing area of mass shootings is quite significantly higher.

And having some slips in your logic is fine - happens to us all. Its when after having such a slip, one then demand that it is ABSOLUTE, even in the face of clearly contradictory facts, and that everyone who doesn't agree with demonstrably false notions (we call them rapfacts in these parts) is a traitor intent on destroying 'Merica, that they end up in rappy/"hero" territory.

Ive seen no such tendencies from you, thankfully.

Honestly? Well, once or twice a year some nut shoots a bunch of people & kills most of em, numbering between 5 & 15 people each, and usually a semi-auto rifle is used, and it's an emotional issue, so many feel that banning the weapons all together will make it harder for a suicidal/homicidal maniac to easily achieve his ends... then we can hope the homicidal/suicidal maniac doesn't have access to a flamethrower, or can get his hands on fertilizer, or doesn't decide to bring 5 shotguns instead, or doesn't just bring a big ole' thing of gasoline & a lighter, or a jar of ball bearings with a stick of dynamite in the center, or....

Well, you get the idea, right?

Once or twice a year....? You might need to revise your stats a bit, Chris.

Okay, I have no personal care if assault weapons are banned, whatever. It's just that loopholes and general non-enforcement will be the way it goes. Decisions on enforcement will affect law abiding citizens most of all, because bullies like an easy target. Easy is the operative word. Going after Gun show creeps & private sales, and illegal sales and illegal weapons will be lost on popping the EASY perps. Like getting a kid with a bag of weed instead of the smarter, dirtier drug lord. Or ticketing the guy doing 10 miles over the limit on a highway instead of the creep doing 45 in a residential zone with kids present because HE has a radar detector.
EASY. Does it.

Looking at some of the past shooting I'm sure if banning assault weapons would make a difference. I would like to see someone do a statistical analysis or the like and see what it says.

One of the apparent "solutions" offered by conservatives was to trot out Ol' Heartless, Dick Cheney himself, to talk about gun safety on FauxNews.

Yeah... when your go-to guy on gun safety is the dude who got drunk and shot his friend in the face, you've pretty much hit the bottom of the barrel. Dick Cheney is to gun safety what shooting your friend in the face is to shooting your friend in the face.

BTW, "Hero", if more access to guns leads to fewer shootings, then why don't you support an abortion clinic on every corner with drive-thru Plan B availability? It would virtually wipe out abortion in this country, according to your logic.

And now you know not to have a round in the chamber until you're in the blind and ready to shoot. You also have probably figured out that having a 'safety' is no substitute for common-sense gun handling rules, like never putting your finger on the trigger until you're ready to shoot, and always being aware of where the gun is pointed, even when you believe it's empty or on 'safe'.

If your shotgun fired without your finger on the trigger, I hope you took it to a qualifed gunsmith to have it fixed.

Some of what you point out is true. Some of it was my fault. But I was no rookie. I had hunted at least a dozen times before for waterfowl and game without incident. In this instance my shotgun was loaded because we were ready to shoot at ducks while we were still in the boat. When we landed the boat I got out and my feet got tangled in the marshy grass and mud. My shotgun discharged into the bank because I was not carrying it recklessly. If I had been reckless someone would have been hit. As for my finger being on the trigger, it must have been. It was a serious mistake made subconsciously and stupidly. But I'm only human, and humans make mistakes. That was the point of my post. No one is infallible. I sold the gun and never went hunting again.

True, but that day is long past.
