While our righties are obsessed with playing "Whack-a-Barack", the rest of the world is paying attention:
Quote:

Worldwide protests are taking place this weekend as May 18 marks the 100th day of the Guantanamo hunger strike. The U.S. Guantanamo prison was established by the Bush administration in 2002. Of the 166 detainees, over 100 are refusing to eat as a form of protest. Some simply want die.

RT reports, the weakened state of the inmates has led to the authorities force-feeding them through nasal tubes – a practice which was condemned by the U.N.’s human rights office and has been declared a form of torture.
Quote:

One Guantanamo Bay prisoner, Samir Naji al Hasan Moqbel, who has been detained since 2002, submitted a story to the New York Times, via his attorney and an Arabic translator. Moqbel who is on hunger strike, spoke about the forced feeding: “I will never forget the first time they passed the feeding tube up my nose. I can’t describe how painful it is to be force-fed this way. As it was thrust in, it made me feel like throwing up. I wanted to vomit, but I couldn’t. There was agony in my chest, throat and stomach. I had never experienced such pain before. I would not wish this cruel punishment upon anyone.”

Another detainee said as soon as the tube hits his throat, tears come streaming down from the pain.

The prison camp situated at the US naval base in Cuba costs Americans over $900,000 annually, per inmate, which adds up to $150 million per year. Surely we could find better use of that money. As Americans, surely we can do better this.LOTS more at http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/05/19/worldwide-protests-why-the-hel

Gee, whiz, we've got our very own concentration camp (that's what many in the world are calling it, and they're right!). Ain't we proud?

well, it's true. But Obama asked the Repubs to fund prison improvements so he could bring 'em here for trial. I think that's what he'd really like to do with them, put it on public record. But the R's said No. So what's he gonna do with 'em?

It's lowest risk for Obama to just leave them there, even if most of them have been cleared for release, are innocent, and have foreign countries willing to accept them. If he let's 'em go, the pols, the Rusho's, and the Raps, Jongs, etc. here will scream about him always being soft on terrorism, and how this proves it. And if even one of them goes back to the wars, and gets caught later, hooboy, just think about how loudly they'll scream that this proves it, they were right all along.

Not saying it's right, it isn't, but Obama's just protecting himself on this one.

And I can't picture any Republican offering any solution-- they don't want to look soft on terrorists.

Obama has options. He's just not going to even TRY to open that can of worms, everyone knows it. Screw him.

Not the first time, not the only one, not the last.

This is why the party system has become a sham of government. On Obama's last term he should be able to do controversial stuff like this, in the interest of upholding American values against indefinite imprisonment, but in order to pave the way for future Democrats that they all have to compromise their principles.

People who are unwilling to take a stand on anything don't deserve any seat of office.

Bingo. A pox on both their houses. Of course, if the Republicans would even HINT that they might LET him close Gitmo, it might be a whole different story. Nonetheless, your point is valid.

Really? There is a hunger strike there?

Thought the lib media would be all over it!

Oh wait, that would make your master look bad.

Move on.

Well, it WAS on CNN.com this morning. I saw it there, and it's not the first time I've seen it there.

Can't provide a link, it seems to be missing RIGHT NOW, but then again, 1/3 of CNN. com 's page is the Oke City tornado as Breaking News. DON't worry, I'll keep an eye out, post a link next time I spot one.

Well, it's still not back up on CNN.com

But I googled it, found a link to WIRED, " 5 hours ago"
and the LA Times ( aka PRAVDA WEST), the Washington Post and the Guardian (the Manchester guardian, I think, a well known leftist paper) all on May 17.
Seems like the "lib media" was on it LAST WEEK.

Oh, all of those and more , were on the FIRST page of Google News links.

Hey, 3 stories on CNN.com this morning. None of them top billing, but one under US, one under world, one on Opinion.

They're still carrying OK City as the big story, as they should.

It's been on every news website I check every morning since BEFORE I first posted it. The first time I bothered to post it was in http://beta.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?tid=54640 , on April 22. Only a couple of other "lefties" paid any attention, and agreed what a travesty Gitmo is. I posted about it again on the twelfth at http://beta.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?tid=54821, but this time nobody was interested...all absorbed by the "scandals" no doubt. I had seen the story on myriad websites, but of course the media's not been interested in Gitmo, what with all the juicy "shit" the Repubs have been trying to create, so it hasn't been "headline news" until now, if it even is yet. So this third time it seems to have caught some attention HERE.

In other words, not a single person has disagreed that the Gitmo problem is a problem, that Obama should be fucking DOING something about it, or has seriously absolved him of blame for NOT doing something about it. He has a speech coming up in which he's going to address it, apparently, and from what I'm reading, wants to get back on the horse and AGAIN try to deal with it.

Amusingly, Wulf's remarks are about as far from anything having to do with reality as humanly possible, as usual. Do he and Rap somehow think that saying we "adore" Obama, he's our "master", we're a "cult" or whatever other idiocy is going to somehow get to us or piss us off or something? To me, it does nothing more than speak to THEIR mentality, very loudly, and it's an extremely sad statement of that mentality. I'm glad they're enjoying themselves, however, I just wish they'd join the rest of us in reality...someday...
