Phelps Says Gay Athlete Was Cause Of Tornado While Robertson Blames Lack Of Prayer

Right on cue, Westboro Baptist blames the Oklahoma tornado on a gay man. And Pat Robertson doesn’t show much concern for the victims. I know, color you unsurprised: what would a disaster be without stupidity and nastiness from the religious right? Would that we could find out but, alas, not this time.

Why does God send tornadoes? If you are someone who believes that this is how the weather works, then this may very well be something that weighs on your mind. And you might ask a trusted elder this very question, seeking guidance or comfort. Well, if it were Pat Robertson you asked, you’d be out of luck on the comfort thing. When a caller to Pat’s 700 Club put that question to him, Pat started out okay but then went to the psycho zone. He began with the actual explanation about warm and cold fronts colliding (he used science!), then wondered why people build houses where tornadoes commonly occur. Then he went there:

"If enough people were praying He would’ve intervened, you could pray, Jesus stilled the storm, you can still the storms.”

So, let me see if I have this straight: if enough people had prayed to stop the tornado then we wouldn’t be seeing images of the devastation in Oklahoma? It’s their own darn fault because they didn’t pray hard enough? This is the kind of utter nonsense that puts many people off of religion completely. Tornadoes can be prayed away – who knew? Pat seems to think that Hurricane Issac was prayed away ("Pat Robertson's CBN Suggests God Moved Hurricane to Protect Republicans", http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/david/pat-robertsons-cbn-suggests-
god-moved-hurric
]
), so why not tornadoes?

At least Robertson has some kind of understanding of the weather aspect of a twister – shocking as that is. The same could not be said of Fred Phelps Jr., however. Phelps has his own idea about what caused the May 20th F5 tornado to land near Oklahoma City:

Yep. That’s right. The church of “God Hates Fags” is johnny-on-the-spot with their obligatory hatred. Their God is pretty nasty and I doubt very much that it’s the same one my Christian friends worship. They say that the god one creates is just like them: hating who they hate, punishing who they would punish and destroying entire towns just to make a point. Dead children are merely collateral damage. That seems to be the case with WBC and their god. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/05/22/phelps-says-gay-athlete-was-ca

Some days, there is just too much to believe:
Quote:

Alex Jones Claims Tragedy In Oklahoma Caused By Tornado Created By Super Villain Obama

Alex Jones and reality have not been on speaking terms for years. This time, the right-wing whackadoodle who earlier claimed the Boston marathon bombing was a false-flag operation until it was revealed that the bomber was a fan, has come out and claimed that Obama is a super villain, with the power to control the weather! And to demonstrate his power, the president decided on using it on poor, helpless Oklahoma:
Quote:

Jones said that "of course there's weather weapon stuff going on -- we had floods in Texas like fifteen years ago, killed thirty-something people in one night. Turned out it was the Air Force."

Following a long tangent, Jones returned to the caller's subject. While he explained that "natural tornadoes" do exist and that he's not sure if a government "weather weapon" was involved in the Oklahoma disaster, Jones warned nonetheless that the government "can create and steer groups of tornadoes."

According to Jones, this possibility hinges on whether people spotted helicopters and small aircraft "in and around the clouds, spraying and doing things." He added, "if you saw that, you better bet your bottom dollar they did this, but who knows if they did. You know, that's the thing, we don't know." Hear Jones spout his insanity at http://mediamatters.org/blog/2013/05/21/alex-jones-explains-how-govern

So, Fred, le'mme get this straight. There's all those gays in San Francisco, and Hollywood, and Noo Yawk, and God smites the faithful in Oklahoma, where they ain't? His marksmanship has gone bad since Sodom and Gomorrah. Or were the sins then committed in Jerusalem and Rome?

...and, of course, there's always Michelle Bachmann out there, doing her bit to maintain the Crazy on the right:
Quote:

Radical Nutjob Michele Bachmann Says God Will Repeal Obamacare

When all else fails, pray. That seems to be the GOP’s line of thinking these days, at least, and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) is leading the crusade. The Raw Story reports that Bachmann had an interview with Evangelical radio host James Dobson and said that God will “answer our prayers” and perform a “miracle before our eyes” by repealing the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare. Here is the entire quote, in all of its nutty glory:
Quote:

I think the President will ultimately be forced to repudiate his own signature piece of legislation because the American people will demand it. And I think before his second term is over, we’re going to see a miracle before our eyes, I believe God is going to answer our prayers and we’ll be freed from the yoke of Obamacare.

I believe that’s going to happen and we saw step one last week with the repeal of Obamacare in the House. We have two more steps. We serve a mighty God and I believe it can happen.

Bachmann also warned attendees at a recent Tea Party Rally that the Affordable Care Act will allow the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to deny healthcare to patients. She says:
Quote:

As someone who formerly worked for the IRS, I can tell you this is the largest ramp-up and expansion, both of employees but also on an area of jurisdiction on one of the largest new entitlement programs that the American people have seen in decades. That’s why it’s crucial that we ask these questions now, when our most personal, sensitive, intimate information — our health care information — will all be centralized in a national federal database.

Who will have access to that database, for what purpose? Will our most personal, sensitive information be used to deny health care? Or to delay access to health care? Or could it be possible that our sensitive information could be used to blackmail Americans. Or even potentially to embarrass Americans. Again, this question would have been considered unreasonable and out of bounds a week ago. Today, this question is highly relevant.

Again, her crazy shows with these wild, unfounded accusations only meant to incite fear and rally for a cause that would, under any other president, be dead at this point. But, as she says, it is revived. However, it is only revived and alive because folks like her refuse to let this president do anything to improve the nation because they want to see him fail.

Now, people can believe in whatever they like. I have no issue with that. However, when elected representatives invoke their own fairy tale versions of the almighty in order to influence policy decisions, that is a very big damn problem. The Supreme Court has already ruled that Obamacare is not unconstitutional. Also, there have been many attempts otherwise to repeal it, to no avail. However, the GOP is not to be outdone, and they are insistent that anything that President Obama does is ungodly, and therefore, God will intervene and undo all he has done. Well, Rep. Bachmann and company, why is state after state approving everything you are against, from marriage equality to healthcare to legalizing marijuana? Hmmm? Your God hasn’t shown up on a white horse yet, and things are still rolling progressively along. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/05/22/radical-nutjo-michele-bachmann
-says-god-will-repeal-obamacare/#ixzz2U2PwnL4p

You know, I hadn't thought about it, but it's true. Nationally, and even statewide to a degree, progressivism has been steadily moving forward. Gay marriage, ending the war on drugs, REPUBLICANS even discussing immigration, and other things have been steadily moving forward, despite all the ENORMOUS, unrelenting effort by the right to fight anything progressive everywhere. Yeah, they're taking us backward (enormously and unrelentingly) when it comes to women's rights, but that's one of the few examples. All in all, we've been making quite a bit of (here comes that hideous word: Righties, avert your eyes!) PROGRESS!

What was it, again, that Wulf keeps claiming? I keep forgetting, but I seem to remember it was about liberals being...oh, yeah, "trounced" and dying off and...

Well, the laughing happens here too, obviously...unfortunately some of these people have power enough to DO some of the crazy things they spout, which isn't all that funny in the end... :o(

Which is part of why I bring them to everyone's attention; if enough Republicans get embarrassed enough by some of their more outrageous members, maybe things will swing back toward sanity...er...moderation...

Hey, I can dream...

Brenda, just never forget that, noisy tho' they may be, far too powerful as some of them may be on the right, they ARE just a tiny minority down here!

Magons, "FAR TOO MANY people with limited grasps on reality around", unfortunately, and the vast majority of that tiny minority are right wing, which is sad, and that they ARE noisy and some ARE powerful is why I post this stuff. I wish I knew what we could do about them, but unfortunately the only ones who can do anything about them are right wingers, most of whom don't seem at all bothered by them....
