Quote:

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is getting big laughs for his new “I didn’t want a government shutdown” bit.

“That ignores who I think was responsible for the shutdown,” Cruz told Fox News’ Chris Wallace at The Atlantic‘s Washington Ideas Forum on Thursday. “I didn’t want a shutdown. Throughout the whole thing, I said we shouldn’t have a shutdown.”

A laugh rolled throughout the crowd.

“Now, folks here can disagree,” Cruz said, annoyed. “But repeatedly, I voted to keep the government open.”

Cruz repeatedly said he didn’t want a government shutdown as he toured the country saying that anyone who voted to fund the government without defunding Obamacare was supporting the president’s health law. The senator also repeatedly argued that the conventional wisdom that the shutdowns of the 1990s hurt the GOP was wrong.

Cruz probably got the idea for his new signature comedy bit while appearing on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

“Listen, Jay, I’m one of the many people who was not a fan of shutting down the government,” Cruz told the host. “Throughout this whole thing, I said…”

“Well, you looked like a big fan from where I was standing,” Leno interjected. http://www.nationalmemo.com/watch-when-ted-cruz-says-he-didnt-want-a-g
overnment-shutdown-people-laugh/

Cruz' line "“I didn’t want a shutdown. Throughout the whole thing, I said we shouldn’t have a shutdown" was too much even for Fox News’ Chris Wallace, the moderator. He interrupted to say, “But you know – and what they’re laughing about – is that obviously, ‘Yes, keep the government open, but only if ObamaCare was defunded or only if ObamaCare was delayed.’”

Still, no personal responsibility from Senator Cruz! Instead, he tried to blame the Democrats for not delaying ObamaCare for one year. Which pretty much proved Wallace’s point.

Wallace moved on to ask about Cruz’ 2016 aspirations. “How are you going to decide whether to run for president?” he asked.

Once again, Cruz pretended to be something he’s not. “You know, I understand a lot of people are focused on politics and potential future races,” he said, with his best gee-whiz face. “I am very much keeping my focus on the U.S. Senate. And the reason is, the Senate is where these issues are being fought.”

Wallace could not let that go. “But, Sir, at the risk of being a smart aleck. For somebody who’s focused on the Senate, you’re spending a lot of time in Iowa.”

That drew another hearty laugh from the crowd.

"Yes, but to be honest, I’m spending a lot of time all over the country and the reason is, …I’m not devoting my time and energy to try to make the case in smoke-filled rooms in Washington. So what I’m devoting my time and energy to? Is going to the American people trying to mobilize and energize the American people. …I think the key to turning the country around is mobilizing and energizing the grass roots."

Gee, didn’t he just say he was focused on the senate because that’s where it’s at?

He didn't. Had Obama just swallowed his pride, met w/ the GOP to fix the colosal failure that IS O-Care, the shut down would have been averted.

The community organizer of Chief , in classic Benito Mussolini style, stuck out his chin and " No! "

He built this.

Whew! That took five whole hours for Rap to come through with his predictably fatuous, purile snark...and same old lie. I was beginning to worry for a while there...

Thankfully, even the live FAUX NEWS AUDIENCE found Cruz's line laughable.

Cruz was the right guy, but in the wrong place. The Senate was never going to give him the time of day, and that included several RINOs as well. The House Republicans showed they had a backbone made of silly putty. After getting pressure from Obama, McCain, Boehner, and The Tooth Fairy, 87 of them caved faster than Sandra Fluke on date night during Georgetown Sex Week.

Yes, but he used the styleless, chinless puke Harry Reid to do the dirty work for him in the Senate.

Niki, you can post 200 cartoons of anything you like, it doesn't change the FACT that Obama chose to shut down the govt instead of fixing his abysmal HC bill. The jewel of his entire administration, when he KNEW it was flawed, and decided to go ahead anyways.

It's completely on him.

And you can go on lying until you're blue in the face; the simple fact that the FAUX NEWS LIVE AUDIENCE laughed in Cruz's face at his claim, and even Faux News' Chris Wallace called him on it, clearly show that all you're doing is repeating the same lie, over and over, in the hopes SOMEONE is stupid enough to believe it. Nobody here with any brains is, or ever will be.

Every funding bill sent by the House to the Senate was rejected by Harry Reid acting on orders from Obama. If Republicans had wanted to shut the Govt. down they wouldn't have sent any bills at all. Republicans tried five different times to keep the Govt. from shutting down. But each time Obama and Reid said no, so the Government had to shut down.

Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

The GOP was talking about shutting down the government for months before they did it (and even worse, defaulting on the country's debt).

Anyone who believes the responsibility lies elsewhere hasn't been paying attention, or is a fool.

It's not personal. It's just war.

Yeah, KPO, but that's okay. Those two will just keep at it--hell, by now THEY probably believe it (hard for it to be otherwise, given how brainwashed they are). Thankfully 99.999% of the American people didn't get fooled and can just go on laughing at them and Cruz.

"Every funding bill sent by the House to the Senate" DEMANDED Obamacare be killed or THE REPUBLICANS IN THE HOUSE wouldn't vote for it. It was only SOME of the Republicans, only some of the REPUBLICANS, only some of the Republicans IN THE HOUSE who made these demands. Everything else is just infantile bullshit.

99.999%? What's that, the amount of your brain that's been fried on acid? All the polls show that Americans overwhelming believe that Obama is a liar and a shitty President. Not that it matter, 'cause he's in, and he won't be running again. And by next November anything's possible in politics.

Oh, Jongs, 'yer funny. But uh, your obsession is showing, as Rap would say, you might want to look to that. My comment was about Cruz causing the shutdown, and that has nothing to do with "Obama is a liar and a shitty President"...the shutdown, remember? You could check back up to the top of the thread, it's called the title, if you'd like.

As to "All the polls show that Americans overwhelming believe that Obama is a liar and a shitty President", I'm afraid you'll have to SHOW US some of those polls, because I haven't seen any, nor has anyone else, given they don't exist.

Glancing around quickly, even the FAUX NEWS POLL reports only "Half think Obama 'knowingly lied' to pass health care law" ( http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/11/13/fox-news-poll-half-think-ob
ama-knowingly-lied-to-pass-health-care-law
/), and

Oh, wait, I just found a Quinnipiac that puts it at 52%: "A new Quinnipiac University poll shows for the first time that a majority of Americans (52 percent) don't think the president is honest and trustworthy." ( http://www.nationaljournal.com/white-house/why-we-lied-to-obama-201311
13
)

--Oops, wait, that's in general. When it comes to the specific lie about healthcare, "American voters are divided 46 - 47 percent on whether Obama "knowingly deceived" the public when he said people could keep their existing health insurance plans if they wished," so if you go by THAT poll, people are about equally divided...actually one percent more think he didn't "knowingly deceive" the public. That's okay, this bleeding-heart liberal will give you that one, 'cuz I think he knew perfectly well what he was saying and how it would turn out, when it comes to those ripoff "catastrophic" insurance plans. They're not stupid and they know the insurance companies; the plans wouldn't be financially profitable enough after the ACA, so they'd get dumped, simple as that. The day I see ANY politician as "trustworthy and honest" is the day I, well, start voting Republican...

So you can scream and holler "JUST OVER HALF OF AMERICANS...!" if you like, but "overwhelming", no, sorry. You just make yourself look sillier if you insist on that one.

From all the polls I see out there, his "approval" rating is hovering around 37-39%. That's NEARLY FORTY PERCENT--or, you know, four out of every ten Americans, who APPROVE of Obama. And even the percent that DISapprove are only in the "half" category...54% via Quinnipiac as of four days ago ( http://www.quinnipiac.edu/institutes-and-centers/polling-institute/nat
ional/release-detail?ReleaseID=1975
). He's been at 55% disapproval before, I'm sure he'll get there again.

None of those figures represent an "overwhelming" number of Americans, so sorry...beep...you're wrong. Wait a while, I'm pretty sure it'll get worse for him before it gets better.

Hey, good news! FauxNews poll as of November 13 ( http://www.foxnews.com/politics/interactive/2013/11/13/fox-news-polls-
half-voters-think-president-lied-about-obamacare-majority-want
/) gives Obama a 40% approval rating...it's gone back up! Oh, no, wait, they never had him down below 40%, so no biggie.

But here's an amusing one. Same FOX News poll--Fox mind you, has Congress' approval rating at TEN PERCENT--wanna talk about that one?--with an 85% disapproval rating. Ouch. And Dems get a 29/65 approval/disapproval, while Republicans get 21/73. Ouch ouch. This from Fox news, so you can't say we "libtards" skewed it, can you? Awww, too bad.

So glad to hear the picture bothers you so much! It's actually one of a few I keep in my signature, but I only use it when I feel it's appropriate. But now because you reacted as you did I think I'll use it more often.

You expect someone with a brain as addled as jongsie to be able to communicate with fresh ideas?

Poor dear can't even string words together.

As for Cruz - when even FOX is laughing at a conservative for being so full of shit, only the most hard-core of the TEAliban will buy into it.

Oh, hi rappy.
