Consider THIS constrast, and ponder why I consider the "Nordic" countries so far ahead of ours in humanity and society.

Police In Iceland Kill Man . . . For The First Time In History
http://jonathanturley.org/2013/12/03/police-in-iceland-kill-man-for-th

Consider THAT in contrast to our own police shooting people dead for no other reason than they happened to be standing there.

I'd send this to some idiots I know who think police brutality is justified, but I suspect they still wouldn't get it.

These are the kinds of morons that think that the police were in their rights to shoot a thirteen year old with a toy gun.

Hey Frem,

Could it be that they've been through their "barbaric" period a couple of millennia ago, and now they're going through their humanitarian mode.

Actually a large part of it revolves around Alice Miller, who pointed out to them in some very undeniable ways how mistreatment of entire generations set them up for the blaze of fascism which plunged the world into chaos, and unlike the extremely fascist-friendly morons we are, they took this to heart.

Which is *WHY* socially, scientifically, educationally, and in every single humane way, they're thirty-some years ahead of us.

It helped that they also had a long history of a closer-to-home family/tribe/clan social concept which we never had, since we were founded by a bunch of puritan dicks who thought denying everything humane about humanity was the way to go, a poison still rotting our society from the inside out.

Ya know, I forgot about Ye Olde Puritan Dicks Syndrome. I need a refresher course in uptight White Anglo Saxon Protestant fetishes (is that the right word, I could never tell) - Scarlet Letter - but, yeah those guys have it down pat, free sex, exporting furniture fashion, spa treatment, foreign films, daddies at home, sauna bath in winter.....................

America loves a winner!

I see how some often will look towards Europe as being so "enlightened", "progressive " and advanced, as compared to back woods , hayseed chomping good ole USA.

Then I think of soccer riots, massive deaths in France - caused mainly when healthcare workers just up and left for holiday, leaving elderly and the infirmed to swelter and die during a summer heat wave, and then I think... gee, our life doesn't suck so bad after all.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

I'm just a red pill guy in a room full of blue pill addicts.

Riiight, like that shit doesn't happen here, even when the healthcare workers are actually on the job ?
Please.

Quote:

A person or group who is hurt comes to believe that’s how one should act. It’s weird, it’s counterintuitive (shouldn’t abuse make you want to be sure it never happens to anyone else), but the evidence is that it’s true. Once hurt, once damaged, too many of us act out that hurt on other people.

Or, as the saying about child-rearing runs, children do what you do, not what you say. If you abuse them, they will abuse. If you bully them, they will become bullies.

True of adults, too.

Or, as I am fond of saying - how you treat people determines what they become, and how WE treat people, has one damn near inevitable result.

That violence doesn't spawn in a vacuum, you know.

^ In general, that's true.

But eventho the pain & anger are great, some people make
the opposite choice. "I will choose compassion!" "I will be
creative, constructive."

There's a big difference between Aware vs Unconscious
people ... as you well know.

Oh bull.

I'll give you socker riots, but the death toll during the 2003 heat wave had very little to do with too few doctors on hand and much, much more with it being a FREAK heatwave and no body knowing how to deal with it. That area of Europe never experiences this kind of sustained heat. The architecture alone is massively different from an area used to hot climate, not to mention human behavior. If the elderly don't drink enough water, suffer in an overheated apartment day and night and then succumb but never even called a doctor... yeah, blame the doctors, make some sort of blanket pronouncement about Europe.

Notably, the truly infirmed who were in actual medical care survived very well because healthcare workers were very much around.

Grargh. I'm sure there are many sensible arguments to dissolve your perceived dichotomy of Europe and the US, but this example is utterly ridiculous. It's like trying to pin the worth of US culture on Katrina.

“A part of the great thing of living in this country is that you

living in a peaceful society. We do not want to change that.”

And this one, in light of US Trademark/Copyright law which delves straight into the downright LUDICROUS...

Norway To Digitize All Norwegian Books, Allowing Domestic IP Addresses To Read All Of Them, Irrespective Of Copyright Status

ze-all-norwegian-books-allowing-domestic-ip-addresses-to-read-all-them-irrespective-copyright-status.shtml

Watch some american publisher try to sue them for this, claiming copyright on the word "the" or some bullshit like that...
Seriously, copyright/patent/trademark trolling has become so epidemic over here that entire mid-sized businesses EXIST only to do so, like Prenda Law, google that one for some horror stories.

And of course, any Mecha or Macross fan can be instantly sent into a foaming rage with a mere two words...

I read the piece. I thought, "that's awesome."

Then I remembered, Iceland was discovered, settled, whatever, Eric the Red & Leif Erickson; in like the 11th century.

Gorram, that's really freakin' AWESOME!

Hell, that's around the time England was invaded by William the Conqueror.

That's a LOT of history, a bloody long time for folks to be that civilized.

Err, they really weren't that gentle with each other the whole time. I think they're counting in terms of official police being in existence. It's still very impressive, but it's not like they never had pointless bloodshed going on in Iceland. Being so small and physically isolated probably also plays a role.

I'm not trying to minimize their cultural accomplishments, but it is a fairly particular country, with a lot of structural advantages that encourage the lack of violence they enjoy.

Last time I checked, France wasn't a Nordic country. You do realise that they are all quite different places, right?
