Millions of normal people came to Phil's defence, these loonatics are like Jesse Jackson, they're media whores looking for TV camaras. Then he picked up a male crawfish and explained, while pointing to the pecker, how they perform the act and produce more crawfish. Seemed to me to be much simpler and a lot less gross than the film my school showed us in 6th grade.

I'll give you that, Signy. I misspoke, but only in the very strictest terms.

Please allow me the opportunity to expound in a little more detail the very short reply that you responded to. I know that with you, I really don't have to ask. For what comes off as a hard core Liberal much of the time, you do have a very open mind. (If you leaned just as much to the right as you do to the left, that opinion of mine would have been the same... I just would have swapped out Liberal for Conservative ;))

Since we all agree that Duck Dynasty is about money, and we can likely agree that we all work and consume entertainment while paying a large portion of our income (money) to an ever more oppressive Government that has supposedly taken us Trillions of dollars into debt that we can never hope to pay off.... I don't think it's very far fetched to think that the Government plays a LARGE role in what we can and cannot watch in our "free" society, what with that $70k per person or so tax bill even the BABIES just born this week owe the second they come out of the womb.

The best part is, the Government didn't even have to lift a finger or even give an opinion here. The seeds have already been planted and have effectively budded. Divided WE fall.....

Our Government has many times RUINED lives of "public servants" and celebrities who spoke out for dissenting opinions on either side of the coin. Goddamn... I'd never be politician material. I probably post one thing a day here on average a year that I wish I could take back. It must be a HORRIBLE life to be the President or any one of his innocent-bystandard family and have every action and/or word under the public microscope. Poor Chelsea. For reals.....

This Government that has everybody so scared that it would seem for the Execs at A&E like a better idea to just get rid of somebody who said something that somebody might not like... even though he is one of the main "earners" on that particular "block" (pimp-talk)

This is nothing new. This is the VERY stuff I was bitching about when GWB was President and all the new laws being made under the Patriot Act that would further allow the ushering of us all into an Orwellian future under HIS watch.

I personally view the rash decision to remove Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty the EXACT same way view watching a 60 year old woman buying a bottle of wine getting carded at the local grocery store. As ridiculous an act as either of these were, whatever network executives who green-lit giving him the axe were operating under the very same duress as the near-minimum wage register clerk who asked a wrinkled old woman for her ID.

FEAR.

The network executives were not stupid in making that original decision to "make the problem go away". In this PR/HR world we live in, the only possible scenario where I would see A&E NOT firing Phil Robertson would be if the board of directors were made up entirely of the regulars from the World Poker Tour. Had that been the case, and they went "all in" by NOT firing him, well.... really.... what would they have had to gain by taking that gamble? In Businesspeak, what would have been their R.O.I.? (Return on Investment)

My guess is that they would have had NOTHING to gain by taking a stance and keeping him on the show. Time will tell. He's back now and, at least in the short term, Duck Dynasty is getting so much media coverage that even both of my Grandmas know about it now. Chances are the show would have died had this decision not been reversed, and now that he's back it's getting more exposure than it ever did before. Had they taken the gamble and let him stay in the first place, they may have jeopardized not only Duck Dynasty, but any of their other franchises as well. Sure, Breaking Bad is done now, but who am I to say that 50% of The Walking Dead's fan base isn't homosexual or at least proactively Pro Homosexual?

In the end, it was a smart decision to remove him. A decision based on Fear. A fear that Our Own Government has slowly over the decades (centuries?) been conditioning within each and every one of us.

That being said, as ridiculous as it was to do so, the clerk at the grocery store probably made an even smarter decision to card that 60 year old woman. There's no golden parachute for her when she gets fired from one of her possible three jobs for not carding somebody on the wrong day and gets the store fined $500.00 for not carding somebody underage. Not to mention the anguish that paying her own $500.00 ticket for "breaking the law" will impact her family considering she's already lost the income the family already counted on.

Merry Christmas, kids. You were all very good this year, so there is no lump of coal in your stocking. There's also no toys. This year, Santa brought you lessons that your health and family are all any kid truly needs and that you should always obey the Government, or else Santa doesn't bring any presents for you. Mom will see you even less next year when she has to work 4 part-time jobs to make up for the money she's not making since getting fired from her 3rd job for the heinous crime of supplying a 20 year old kid with booze........

I hope that clears up any thoughts anyone might have had, at least in this particular case, that I'm a complete idiot.

Like any good Cult Leader, the Government can completely sit back in this instance and watch the "puppets" dance without ever voicing an opinion.

You know me Sigs. I'm not against gay rights. I also admitted that earlier this post that I've never seen Duck Dynasty. Although I've read the article you posted here, I didn't go as far as to read his thoughts on the issue. I don't need to. I'm sure they weren't really that bad at all, actually, especially given the horrible images/videos/thoughts that are implanted in your kids via the internet every day you let them use their shiny new computer without any parental controls set.

Who knows? Maybe when Phil Robertson was a teen, he and his hillbilly friends used to beat up blacks and gays and drag them on the pavement with their truck? If that were to have happened, he should be in a different place right now.

I'd love to argue that point with you RF, but without ever having watched the show, I have absolutely no basis to do so.
