It's hours before the SOTU and we have the right lobbing preemptive grenades regarding Obama's declaration that he will take action with Executive Orders.

No doubt our good friends here at FFF.net will make their presence felt on the matter, as well as the Rush Brigade, but let us not overstate the obvious.

This will be loud and ugly.

So allow me to lob a few grenades of me own.

First-Term Executive Orders (in recent memory)(Source: The American Presidency Project) while in office.

Reagan: 213

Bush (1): 166

Bush (2): 173

Obama: 147

Was Reagan a dictator? Was Bush (1 or 2) a king? Were they Imperialists?

That sound you hear, it's called backpedaling - let the debacle begin!

America loves a winner!

I don't recall Reagan telling everyone he'd work with Congress, and do what ever it takes to get DC working again, and then turning right around and saying he'll act with OUT congress, and do as he pleases. President LIE OF THE YEAR can't seem to stay on message.

Besides, the mere # of EO's alone aren't the issue. It's about trying to use the Executive Office as a sledge hammer to pound through policy that he can't get through on his own.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

Obama has shown remarkable restraint in light of the unprecedented opposition he has faced. So the number of EOs don't matter, eh? Now that's a new twist on a touchy subject for you guys.

Why so nervous? Why is it that the numbers don't matter all of a sudden.
If Obama is a dictator, then the presidents preceding him are Kings ruling with an iron fist.

Working with Congress is a two-way street. In order to work WITH Congress, they must work WITH the president. Now, how are you going to spin that?
Go ahead, I know you have something clever to say.

Tsk, tsk, Shiny, don't encourage him. The numbers you put up say it all, and everyone KNOWS the right wing decided from Obama's inauguration day to obstruct him on everything they could, which they have, so no more need be said.

Does The President have the legal, Constitutional authority to issue those Executive Orders, or doesn't he? That's a Yes or No question.

If he does have that authority, then what he's doing is not tyranny, nor side-stepping Congress, but doing his job.

Just because somebody might not like what he orders or disagrees with it, does not make it tyranny.

Three words to object to in RapTroll's post here: "turning right around". Yepper, five years later, he turned right around and did something different.

Typical exaggeration, typical BS. Go back under your bridge!

Mark posted it, I just caught it, and I agree with it, so I'm gonna quote it now and again for those who want to join us in not letting our resident troll control every conversation:
Quote:

He may not change, but the conversation can - if we decide to do it.

Right now all we've done is segue from every thread becoming about him - to every thread becoming a series of pics and comments about how we're not gong to let it be about him.

Just actually ignore the little shit. He can keep spewing - but we don't have to let him dominate EVERY GODDAMNED conversation.

Maybe we need some sort of designation. The first person to acknowledge any of that shit is the "sucker of the day" or something.

Back on the subject at hand, for those who actually want to DISCUSS it:
Quote:

In his 2013 State of the Union address, President Obama laid down an ultimatum for Congress: “If Congress won’t act soon to protect future generations, I will,” he said with respect to climate change.

That declaration fell on deaf ears: Congress didn’t come close to passing any climate change legislation. Other domestic agenda items Mr. Obama laid out in his speech -- like reducing gun violence and immigration reform -- remain in congressional limbo.

With Congress unwilling or unable to act on these key issues, the president has followed through on his threat to stretch his executive muscle on a variety of issues. Compared to past presidents, the number of executive orders Mr. Obama has signed so far is relatively low. Nonetheless, his actions have left Republicans in Congress equating the Obama White House with a monarchy ( http://thehill.com/video/senate/277299-rand-paul-obama-acting-like-a-k
