That's very nice.

As a hobby cellist, my all time favorite to listen to and to attempt very poorly to play is the Bach sonatas. The video of the #3 sonata comes with the bonus of Mark Morris's Falling Down Stairs, one of favorite modern dance pieces ever since I saw it performed with Yoyo Ma playing live



Then there's the ambient cello of Rena Jones



And if your tastes run toward the dramatic, there's nothing like cello tango:

Thanks for the reply and the music.

It takes a system with really good bass to get the full effect from my post. I like it because it has completely non-human references. For me the cello is like listening to the earth breathe, and like vast ancient rivers comfortably meandering under a rising sun.

So, not being a musician or dancer, after watching your posts, I think I like the Bach the best. I tend to like Bach anyway, and I thought the dance was a deeply affecting interpretation of the music.

Mark Morris choreographs with sheet music in his hand, and you can tell. His dances pick up every little nuance. To poor music, it might not work out so well, but to Bach's cello concertos or to other magnificent pieces, say, Handles Messiah (another I've seen performed) Morris is just fabulous.

Not to hijack, but Morris has been replaced in my heart by just one choreographer. If you're a fan of modern dance, I guarantee there is nothing better than the following. It's part 2 of a 20 minutes piece Petite Mort. I saw it done by Alvin Ailey last year. It is absolutely perfect.



And now back to the cello in a unique interpretation that rocks:

I was so intrigued did some looking around. the choreographer is Jirí Kylián, and the cello piece is by the two cellists who call themselves 2CELLOS. am I right?

Yep and yep.

I think the 2 cello guys also do a Star Wars theme. They published a book of a bunch of their songs, but it's all way too hard for me.

Liked the cello tango. And two studly guys trying to outplay each other? Makes me wish I has taken up music! (OTOH, so to speak, who am I kidding? I can't even manage touch-typing!)

And, just because I like multi-voice pieces, whether cello or voice...
