Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

I'm in something called "Paperback Swap". It's an on-line service where you post any books you want to let go of, when someone wants one you mail it to them for a couple of bucks postage and get "credit" to request a book from someone else. Getting into conversation with others, particularly a guy in Alaska who's a voracious reader and we've been "yakking". Mentioned our heat wave, and got this, this morning:
Quote:

Our weather is nice, we usually have a rainy April and haven't had any rain, we had a mild winter compared to the East Coast. I have been here in Alaska for over 20 years, when I first moved here, there is this glacier called Portage Glacier and you could walk up to it and touch it, now to see it close up, you have to take a boat. Last summer was so hot, my roommate wanted to buy an AC, we had one of those new portable ice cube machines last summer and between that and fans we barely survived last summer, so I'm hoping this summer won't be as hot. Our high temperature today was 59 degrees, tomorrow's high is 63 degree and our low is 45 degrees, now this is April, it's not usually this warm this early although it is almost May, I've already had my fan running at night.

Yeah, there's no climate change. You betcha.

Yep. Sometimes the climate changed because of volcanic activity, meteors, life forming, orbital shifts, solar events, and now man's pollutive activity. It's never just one factor, but it gets a little help here & there.

20 years ain't long to see changes of that magnitude.

"All's I know" is that we're in our 3rd straight day of high 90's here in LA. And it's only May 2nd. We be dyin' from it.

If it wasn't for the winds, it would be completely stifling. And if we get a brush fire going, the whole ruttin' place might burn down. Luckily the Ranch Cucamonga fire hasn't been too bad, yet.

Once I found Serenity

I just had to watch this in one of my classes. If you really want the facts watch the film. If all you want to do is deny. Don't bother.

Remember, the truth will set you free.

The sad thing is that my Dad pulled that off, in 1959, when I was in grade school. So I grew up in the Mendocino County forests. And I moved BACK to go to college. Met my wife, got a job, had kids. And now I've got that "job I have to go to every day." In a "brick and mortar" factory, in a non-portable industry.
Oh, well, maybe I could get Kurt Russell to rescue me...

Gawd, NewOld, you went BACK to L.A. after living in Mendocino?? That is the very definition of insanity, in my book...

My deepest sympathies. Deepest!
