Good grief!

Obama’s rescue mission to save Foley failed

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama sent U.S. troops to Syria earlier this summer to rescue a number of Americans held by a violent extremist group, including slain journalist James Foley, but did not find the hostages, senior Obama administration officials said Wednesday.

The officials said the rescue mission was authorized after intelligence agencies believed they had identified the location inside Syria where the hostages were being held. But the several dozen special operations troops who were dropped by aircraft into Syria did not find them engaged in a firefight with Islamic State militants before departing.

The officials said a number of militants but no Americans were killed. One American sustained a minor injury when an aircraft was hit, according to the officials, who described the mission under ground rules that they not be identified. They did so one day after the militants released a video showing the beheading of Foley and threatening to kill a second hostage, Steven Sotloff, if U.S. airstrikes against the militants in Iraq continued.

The officials would not say specifically when or where the operation took place, citing the need to protect operational details in order to preserve the ability to carry out future rescue missions.

I know, but the optics of a failed rescue mission, in the middle east, by another Dem President are noteworthy.

Flip the coin, he did make the call to get UBL, as well as to shoot those Somali pirates, saving Captain Phillips.

No mention of Clinton passing up Osama's head?
How low he has fallen on the totem pole - gotta get Hillary in there to boost his cred.

So are you mad that he tried to do something, or mad that he didn't try to be more like Reagan and trade anti-aircraft missiles to the hostage-takers?

Yeah, only Reagan never did that. Oh, and it's completely irrelevant to what Obama is doing.

But to answer your question, I'm more than a bit pissed that the administration ADMITTED to trying to free Foley.

There's not 1 damn thing to achieve in letting the enemy know what we TRIED to do, and that it FAILED.

Again, study your history. It happened. That you don't like it is what's irrelevant. Hawk missiles and TOW rockets. Look it up.

Bitch to the Washington Post. They had the story and were about to go to press with it. They called the White House for confirmation of their source. It was decided that they should try to get ahead of the story, rather than have the usual bunch of whiny babies in the House GOP start claiming there was a "cover-up" or some such bullshit.

Or so YOU claim. So what if they were ? Just deny it if you're the WH. Or ask they not publish. National security concerns. This whole scenario, the entire foreign policy is utterly bungled by the group of naive amateurs.

It's not what *I* claim; it's what WaPost reported.

As I said, if you have a problem with it, maybe you should talk to the Post.

I think you've just revealed more about yourself than you'd like us to know.

"I'm more than a bit pissed that the administration ADMITTED to trying to free Foley."

"There's not 1 damn thing to achieve in letting the enemy know what we TRIED to do, and that it FAILED."

"Just deny it if you're the WH."

This explains so much. Rather than admit to failing at anything, or at getting something wrong, just LIE instead. Deny reality, deny all evidence, deny every fact thrown at you, and continue to live inside that bubble of denial while you continue to weave ever more elaborate lies.

Thanks so much for clearing this up - it really helps me understand your mindset better! You believe that it's better to lie and deny rather to admit any fault or error, and you believe it even more where your country is concerned.

That also explains why you cannot fathom the reality that your idol, Ronald Reagan, was responsible for selling American anti-aircraft weapons to Iran in exchange for hostages held by radical militant groups.

When confronted with an uncomfortable truth, you will do literally ANYTHING to avoid facing it.

That's good info to know about you, but it's also very trollish behavior on your part.

This admin will plead the 5th when spying on We, the people, ( IRS, Lois Lerner, TEA PARTY targeting ring a bell ? ) , but openly telegraph to our enemies that our top secret rescue attempt failed.

Your attempts at mock indignation are pathetic. As are you.
