Oh cool...

I found an unopened gallon of Dutch Boy high gloss white enamel paint I'd bought before I ended up using Pittsburgh enamel for all of my trim, doors and kitchen cabinets. I forgot I had that. I was too afraid to use it up with the Pittsburgh paint because I thought the sheen or color might just be a little off and not match.

Now I'm going to hit the center ceiling tiles I didn't get to with the primer and the faces of all of them with the primer, and I'll go back and use that gallon to hand paint two more times on it and it should look awesome without me having to go out and buy another gallon for the job.

First I'm going to get the mud up on the corners and where I need to touch up, and then I'm going to cut and fit those boards for the shed repairs so I can get the watertite on them. I can't paint over that stuff for 3 days, so I'd like to have them done by Friday at the latest so I can paint them on Monday. I'm quickly running out of painting time.

Got the walls mudded, then I cut those 7 boards to size to do the upper wall repairs on the outside shed wall. I'm glad it was cold and windy today too because while I was up there especially with the last board, I could really feel the draft coming in and now it's all boarded up and sealed with the watertite. Next week it will be painted with white enamel like the rest of the shed and blend right in.

I decided since it was already 5:30 I wasn't going to start hitting the ceiling tiles with any more primer, so I just threw a bit of backer rod where it needed to go with in the door jamb to the kitchen and caulked it up real nice after priming it along with the walls yesterday. Nobody will even be able to tell that wasn't a new door by the time I'm done with it.

All the things that require any signifigant drying time outside for the rest of the year are taken care of now. I think tomorrow and possibly Friday are going to be dedicated entirely to getting that ceiling painted so I can finally paint the walls in the porch next week. It will probably take two days since it's essentially 3 coats of paint with a brush on a ladder in a room that's got about 190 or so sq ft.

No luck today at mah jong. Maybe my birthday tomorrow will bring me better luck.

Then I have a visit with the physio therapist for my shoulder.

You should be pleased with yourself and the progress you've made. Sounds like you're buttoned up for the winter.

Meanwhile have been busy with hubby's surgery. All of the really heavy shit that he carried as a mason's helper (chimney flues 300+ pounds, among other things) and motocross when he was a mocycle mechanic finally caught up with his back.

I wish I could show you pictures of all the work, but my house is pretty unique and don't want to give any info to the psychopaths here to start digging up with all their apparent free time.

I could probably show you before/after pics from inside the shed when it's finished.

I finished priming the ceiling tiles by hand today. The faces of the tiles have one coat except for around the fan and along the walls where they've gotten 2 coats. In between the tiles essentially have 3 coats on them now.

I think it will take another 2 days to finish the ceiling. I'm wrecked right now after being on a ladder doing that all day. Each coat of paint should be much quicker than the primer since I won't have to put so much care in between the tiles anymore.

We'll see how the back is feeling tomorrow. I'm hoping to put the first coat of finish paint up there tomorrow. If the back doesn't agree, I'll go back to the insulation and finish the wall and start on the ceiling insulation.

Another 8 hours painting the ceiling tiles by hand with a brush today. First coat of enamel is up.

It looks amazing now considering where it started. I'm really hoping that the 2nd coat will do it though because I'll have to buy more paint if it doesn't.

Helped my friend do outside work today. His brother came along so I didn't have to work on roof repairs, which was nice since Jack doesn't like heights.

I filled up 14 bins with lawn debris. About half of which I'd cut down many weeks back and the other half he must have done himself. I had the driveway clear and the 6 raised garden beds cleared out too.

But then he wanted the pine trees cut back... There's more debris now than there was before.

But I cleared out a spot of all the bramble off the side of the driveway and put it all on a tarp so it can be salted out with the trash the next few weeks. It's all cut down already and easy to put in the bins as they're free now.

While we were up there, I noticed that one of the trees must have been hit by lightning, and it looks like it was years ago. The top 1/5th of the pine tree was hanging down by a sliver and only being held up by the limbs below it. Power lines were close and it was really close to the house and one of the windows.

My lunatic friend got up on a 30 foot ladder with a sawzall, climbed the 15 extra feet he needed to and cut it down himself. It didn't fall so we needed to wrap a few large extension cords over it and pull it down. Somehow it fell perfect. Didn't hit the lines. Didn't hit the house or the window. And somehow my friend is still alive.

Burnt a whole ton of branches and bramble while he was wrapping up the roof. So one more coat of elastomeric paint tomorrow and it should be watertight now. Don't know what he's going to want me to do tomorrow while he's doing that, but I'm sure it will be outside work. Got to take advantage of what little good weather we've got, and since he can only work weekends on his place, he's got a hell of a lot less good weather than I've got to wrap up what I'm doing on mine.

So... no lazy Sunday for me again this week. He wants to do a short 4 or 5 hour day tomorrow, and as much as I'd like to just relax when I get back I'm probably going to mow my lawn tomorrow. I ran out of gas a few days after my car went into the shop and I haven't even gotten any more since. Been too busy with projects to do the chores. I've got my gas can in the car already. Probably pick some up on my way back home and should have a few hours to get it cut so I don't have to worry about it this week.

Helped my bud out again today. I think he's got a handle on things and should be able to get done what he needs to get done outside before the weather turns too cold to do outdoor work. I'm sure I'll be back there sometime soon, but I should probably be able to finally turn my focus back to my grandma's house while wrapping up my own work before winter comes.

It was a long day, and I decided to stick around for dinner and just hanging out for a while before coming home, so the lawn didn't get mowed. Got the gas though, so I'll probably be doing that tomorrow.

I think all I'll do tomorrow is sand down the mud in the corners and the few other spots and primer them and then go mow the lawn. It will be nice to be showered and relaxing before sundown for a change.

Mowed the lawn first, then was going to sand down the corners that I re-mudded. Wasn't feeling it and decided to call it a half day and get a much needed nap.

Hasn't been bad since I woke up though. Got caught up on paperwork, sorted through the mail to get the recyclables out and just washed the dishes that had been piling up for longer than they had any right to. I wanted to get at least a little head start on the cleanup since I hadn't seen one of my friends since he got his new job and he might be coming by while I'm working on the porch after he's done with work on Wednesday.

IF I'm feeling it tomorrow, I'm going to sand those re-mudded spots, prime them, prime the boards I used for the shed repair up top, finish the insulation on the last porch wall in the shed while that's drying so I can get a coat of finish paint on the boards and then possibly start putting the insulation in the porch attic. It's not like I'm not going to be going back up there to work on some electric by spring, but I think I want to have the insulation work done before I put the final coat of paint in the ceiling just in case my moving around up there disturbs the ceiling tile. I don't think it will, but I don't want to chance it.

So I'm a little bit behind this week since I quit the day early, but I'm still hoping to get a first coat of paint on the porch walls on Thursday.

Yeah, I did. It was a cute ad from Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. I do love that idea. From my understanding of the two characters, Deadpool has always really just drove Wolverine crazier than he already is. And I also would just love me some more Wolverine. So, I think that is a Deadpool movie I will enjoy.

Yeah. I LOVED the first Deadpool but never got around to watching the 2nd one. I've never even watched Logan, although that movie has been on my list of movies I want to watch. It's long been spoiled for me, so I like how they explained how Logan took place in 2029 and Deadpool 3 takes place "now", so it would be before Logan died.

I've only ever seen the first two X-Men movies. It was pretty thrilling to see when the first one came out since I'd been a X-Men fan from the comics and the cartoon when I was a kid, but I was already in college and had kind of outgrown superhero stuff by then. I never saw any X-Men stuff beyond the first 2 movies.

I'm psyched about the idea of Hugh doing Wolverine again in another Deadpool movie. I can't even imagine how psyched Ryan Reynolds is since he HATED how Deadpool was portrayed in Wolverine Origins when they were last in a movie together as those characters. No doubt there are going to be a few really good jokes at that movie's expense.

My only concern is that Disney owns the properties now. It seems that anything they touch gets ruined these days. I'm hoping they allow DP3 to maintain its R rating and they let Ryan Reynolds call all the shots like they did before.

Yeah, that was a good idea that they did. Last thing they want to do is turn off their audience.

I've seen all three of the X-Men movies. I got into X-Men and Wolverine when I was in high school though I had been collecting comics for a while by then. I started with the Mighty Thor.

I saw Wolverine: Origins too and wasn't pleased with what was done with Wolverine's character. I think I discussed the film on this board somewhere along the line. I hope they do.

Yeah, all we can do is hope that they let Ryan and Hugh call the shots on the movie.

What a gross day today turned out to be...

I had some extra mudding to do that I missed, so although I sanded down the 3 corners and the other spots, I had to wait for the new mud to dry, so I went in the shed and finished the insulation on the wall.

Then I went in the attic...

I forgot how bad it was up there. Filthy, filthy, filthy... And random crap boards all over the place spanning the joists haphazardly, some of them nailed down, some not. Some only 1/4" plywood that is in crap shape and I'd be afraid to even stand on in between the joists.

Ive thrown out three 5 gallon buckets worth of dust, raccoon crap, long dead mice and random junk I found up there, including bike pedals and brakes, shingles for a roof that doesn't exist anymore, some sort of belt for a car engine and other random crap.

Cool finds were some electrical boxes and connectors, and an ancient wood plane that just needs a blade.

After sweeping crap that I could reach from the existing boards, I would remove the old boards and install new stuff that I'd saved for this purpose. Fortunatley, the joists are exactly 16" on center, so I could cut old shelving down to 16", 32" and 48" inches and just bring it up with me and know that they'd fit. I'd then use my countersink bit to drill pilot holes and put wood screws in to fasten them down tight. I'm making 3 catwalks spanning the ceiling. Once that's done, I'll fill in with my existing insulation and then wait for it to go on sale again to buy the rest. It will be a breeze to install it once I get all the crap out.

Much needed shower time. I worked late tonight to make my 1st trip up there worth it. I hope to finish this job tomorrow. This is going to put me behind schedule a day or two, but it absolutely needs to be done. The good news is that nothing I've done up there has disturbed any of the ceiling tiles that I painted.

Time to run some errands. Might as well get that out of the way now while I'm clean before spending the day in attic hell.

I loved it, but comedy is very subjective. It's not like there was much of a story to it, but that's kind of how I feel about most superhero movies. If it weren't Ryan Reynolds in the role and also the fact they finally gave him free reign to make Deadpool right, it wouldn't have been any good.

That usually doesn't seem to be the case these days. I've heard the phrase "if you don't like it, then don't watch it" far too much in the last 5 years. That phrase is usually followed by some sort of "you're a _____phobe" or "you're an _____ist if you didn't watch it" when it failed. The same thing has been happening in comic books and video games too, and none of those industries are doing very well as a whole right now.

Ryan cares A LOT about Deadpool though, so even with Disney owning FOX I still have hope that this one is going to be good. I suppose I have to finally get around to watching Deadpool 2 now if I'm going to watch the 3rd one. I really need to see Logan too... for some reason just from the little I know about that movie I've got a feeling it's going to end up on my short list of favorite Superhero movies.

Wow. All of them? That's cool. It was just bad timing for me, really. They started coming out back when I finally got out of my shell and was doing a lot of partying and then I got that first really good job. I hardly watched any TV or movies for about 5 years and fell behind on the X-Men movies after X2. I hardly watch anything now, but I don't know why I didn't catch up on them when I was watching a ton of TV and movies.

I thought I was going to be rich collecting comics. My old man has quite the collection himself, but he was buying at a time where they are worth something. Not the golden age where they're worth millions or anything, but he does have 3 copies of X-Men #1, one copy of Spider-Man #1 and twenty-two copies of Iron Man #1.

I laugh when I think of how ubiquitous the name Iron Man is today, but nobody knew about him when I was a kid and my dad had those 22 copies that were only worth like maybe $100 each. My dad's never had any of his comics graded, but he immediately bagged them with backers. He could very well have at least a few in 9.8NM/M quality, and a copy in that condition sold for over $20,000 in 2017.

The only comics I have in my possession right now that are worth anything are the ones my old man would pack up and give to my brothers and I for Christmas every year. They were not worth much when he gave them to us, but some of them today are worth a few hundred bucks now. Any of the crap I collected was way after the market was saturated and aren't worth the paper they're printed on. I do have 2 copies of Guardians of the Galaxy #1, and last time I checked about 5 years ago they're worth about $13 each.

Yeah. I forgot to mention that I did see that one on cable back when I was living at my grams. I was completely unfamiliar with Deadpool at that point, so what they did to the character went over my head. I don't remember much about the movie except for the experimentation done on Wolverine. And I remember the whole movie being very dark. In tone probably too, but I mean I remember every scene seemed to be filmed at night.

Well, I also never read the Deadpool comics though I knew who the character was and a bit of his background. But couldn't get into the movie. So gave up.

I know. I've heard those phrases too and just basically ignore them. Ryan and Hugh seem to be a little more caring of their audience which is great.

I have a copy of Logan but haven't been able to bring myself to watch it knowing that Logan is dying in it. Makes me think of the comic "Old Man Logan" which Logan is dying in the comic. I love my Wolverine!!!!! Can't watch him die. *L*

Yup and I have pretty well liked each one. Well, I am older than you and looking after my mum when she was sick. So yeah got to see them all.

I wasn't collecting to make money. It was just a hobby that I started when I was getting out of elementary school and moving into high school. Thor was the first comic book I bought I think. Buy the time I had to sell my collection I think I have almost 1,000 comics. Had to sell them as I had no place to keep them after my mum died and I had to do all that moving around. There used to be a really cool comic store in my city and the owners were great people but they are both gone now and their kids had no interest in the business, so it folded.

I have got a few newer comics now but if I want to try and find any of the ones I had I would have to go into Vancouver and just not my thing.

Origins outside of the experimentation on Wolverine to me basically rewrote some of his backstory and that bugged me. I hate when movies start rewriting characters that I love like Wolverine and that has always been my problem with the Thor movies too.

I agree with you from what I know about Ryan and Hugh they totally are. And if you are doing movies like these that's the type of guys you need.

Got all my errands ran this morning then I got everything done in the attic I wanted to do and it's not even 9PM yet.

I didn't vacuum, but aside from the dust all of the filth is out of the porch and shed attic. I filled six 5 gallon buckets and three 55 gallon trash bags. It was a lot of filth.

I didn't find a go-bag with a stack of money in it though. :(

All the bad boards are out too, and I cut down whatever I could fit in the trash cans. I'll cut the rest sometime before the next trash day and that will be taken care of.

I also put a TON of new boards up there with the old shelving and plywood I'd saved for that purpose. Now it's easy to walk around up there... well crawl really, but no worries about putting your foot through the ceiling anymore while you're up there. It will make the electric I want to do in the future up there a breeze now.

All the insulation I had is installed and it went further than I thought it would. Instead of having to buy 6 or 7 more bats, I only need to buy 3 more. As much as I'd love to just be done with it, I'm not paying $18 per bat. I can wait until it goes on sale. I doubt I'll ever see them for $5 each again, but I know I can get them cheaper than that.

No damage at all to the seems between the tiles with 1 1/2 days of work up there, which is awesome. I won't worry about screwing up the ceiling paint when I'm putting the rest of the insulation up there or doing the electric.

So tomorrow I think I'll start with sanding down the remaning spot of mud I had to put up, spot priming all the mud and hitting those 7 repair boards in the shed, then it's on to hopefully the final coat of ceiling paint.

I may just get some wall paint up this week after all.

I think most people do ignore them. Especially all these years later. Those phrases only seem to come out when the movie or TV show is just bad. There's plenty of movies, tv shows and characters that had female or minority leads that I've loved throughout my life without somebody having to guilt me into watching them. One thing in particular that is always going to stick in my craw was when they released Black Panther and "everyone" was saying "finally! A black superhero lead!", while forgetting completely that Wesley Snipes did Blade before Hugh Jackman did Wolverine and Toby McGuire did Spider-Man. And the Blade movies were freakin' awesome.

Hehe... I get it. Sometimes when I read a book that I really loved I don't read the last page. Then the story never ends and I get to imagine what happened next.

Bummer to hear you had to sell your collection and about the store closing. I was always collecting crap that I thought was going to be worth something because the "price guides" were all a scam (there's videos on that topic in great detail now). The only thing I ever bought that was worth any money as a kid was a handful of Magic the Gathering game cards. But the ones that are now worth over $1k each I gave away to a friend back in high school in trade for a Sega Genesis and a Turbo Grafx 16 and a few dozen games that my youngest brother ended up selling to GameStop in trade after I moved out. The rest of my collection is probably worth about $2k right now, but the three cards I gave away are worth more than the other thousands of cards I still have. They're all in mint condition too.

Damn...

Neglected to put the washed clothes in the dryer last night. My early start today is back to a normal start while it's on hold.

Walls should be ready for paint, my repair boards in the shed should be white with primer and if the 2nd coat of enamel gives the coverage I'm hoping for the ceiling should be finished by the end of the day today.

IF that all works out, all I should be doing tomorrow is painting walls. That won't get finished tomorrow since I'm doing two different colors, but it should be a relatively slow and easy day which will be nice because I'll probably be getting ready to go to my Grams for a few days to (hopefully) finish the dehoard work that I started in the spring.

Speaking of Grams, my aunt just told me the other day that my uncle came over and installed a new faucet on the kitchen sink. They finally have water pressure! It was bad... It came out so slow you couldn't even be bothered to try to fill the sink up to wash dishes and just had to immediately wash them with soap the second the meal was done. Fixing that was on my long list of things to do, but I probably wouldn't have gotten to it until at least mid-November. And I hate crawling into sink cabinets to do that (I have an increasingly poor water flow in my own kitchen sink that needs attention too).

I told my aunt that with my friend's dad in bad shape right now, I don't know if I can get him out this winter to fix the tub plumbing. If my uncle does that, I can rebuild the damaged wall and they can entirely cut off the 2nd floor of the house for the winter to save on energy bills.

HEY SIGS!!!! WHERE ARE YOU!!!!!??????

I knew about Deadpool because he was mentioned every so often in the Wolverine comics and X-Men. Never heard Ryan do that but one big gripe I had with Origins was Wolverine wasn't in Japan at the end of WW II, he was in European theatre fighting. And he was in another spot in Asia before he even got to Japan. That's all I remember from the movie as I haven't watched it a second time.

Yeah. When I was growing up there were very few shows with leads that were minority actors and I'm talking about when I was in elementary school. There was a show filmed here on the west coast of BC called "The Beachcombers" and they had several First Nations actors on it. Then once I started hitting high school there were more American shows with Native American characters on them.

I love the Blade movies except for the 3rd one. That one seemed not so good. But the first 2, I just love and have watched them so many times it isn't funny.

Oh, I suppose I will watch the last Wolverine movie but not right now. *L* I feel that way about B5 and Sheridan's death but it had to happen and the ground work was all laid out for it. Though it still makes me cry.

I haven't seen Iron Man, I keep meaning to see them and I did try watching a copy from my local library but it was messed up. Should see if they are on YouTube.

It was a bummer but their kids had no interest in keeping the business running after their parents died. My comics had a good home for a few months. I sold them to that shop owner, so I know they were well looked after until he died. Mine were all in good condition when I sold them. They were bagged and in boxes with a count and what comics were in what box.

I didn't tear into them but I did complain about them here and to a couple of friends who know I watch those movies. And know I had the comics.

That's an idea. I'll have a think about that. I know Second does but I am also careful about links and such.

That would be great. We shall see. Gotta wait over a year for it. Ad said it will be due out in 2024.
