85F today, very dry and stuffed up nose. We've been having "roller coaster" weather... we'll get a streak of 40F at night and 65F during the day. Then a streak of 85F daytime and 59F @night. Not that I'm complaining!

Last night I had hubby fill the humidifiers so we could sleep more comfortably. But temps will drop to 63 in a few days and cloud over.

Amazingly my tomato is still chunking out small, but very tasty! tomatoes.

I think I'm going to work on that keyboard shelf I started making for my brother when he was in town. I thought I'd done what I needed to do, but after I was there last time I discovered that the old/broken one had some holes drilled into the bottom to allow for screw-in nuts to be set at specific points and tightened with an allen wrench for the screws that will tighten it to the brackets for the pull out system.

I knew I wouldn't be going back to see him the next few times my dad went down, but if I can get it done in the next day or two he might be able to come by to pick it up before he goes next week.

I'd lost the bag that had a few of those nuts that had fallen out when the original shelf broke as well as all of the necessary screws, but after looking all over today I finally found it.

I think I'll cut the pieces I need for extending the window sills in the living room to accommodate the frames too.

Trying to catch up or at least KEEP up! Dear daughter is doing the dishes and helping with cooking, but I'm still walking the dog (albeit not anywhere as far as b4!) sorting mail and tidying up. Using my arms far too much, I'm more sore than I was 2 days ago.

Need to slow down, and seem to need a 2- hour nap most afternoons, which is very welcome! So not posting as much, but still reading what you guys are up to.

Yeah. Glad I finally got around to doing it today.

I came up with a great idea to figure out exactly where the holes needed to be too. I taped a few pieces of graph paper end to end, placed them over the broken tray and used a carpenter pencil to rub over the old nuts so I could get the exact placement on a template for the bottom of the new tray I made. I then did my measurements and taped the template into place with some painter's tape so I could get the pilot holes drilled.

I also used electric tape on my drill bits for the pilot holes and the final drill so I would know exactly how deep they needed to be for the nuts without going through the top of the tray.

Then I put wood glue on the nuts before turning them into place with the allen wrenches and wiped all of the excess glue off.

It should work perfect.

Found a new detective series on Britbox called "Shetland" which I think you would like, but it's relativey new so only the first two seasons might be available free. There are six all together. The main characcter (Jimmy Perez) is not your typical quirky cerebral, cynical Sherlock Holmesian detective. He's a reflective, stable, responsible guy whose major strength IMHO is an empathic grasp of people. Worth looking up.

I had to look up where the Shetland Islands are. Gawd, they're in the middle of nowhere!

TBH I feel kind of numb. Been planning and dealing with this since mid Oct, and had game-planned out what I was going to advocate for if cancer remained.

So now I have to reorient my thinking about "What to do next" and need to reprioritize my plan of action. There are STILL legal/estate things that I need to do for daughter's continuing care and things to share with our trustee.

Also still want to learn GIMP, but hubby needs to move out an old 'puter that he had repaired and hook up the'puter I've been using which has many of the files on it that I need. I would but it's too heavy for me to lift.

Also, still need to heal. I've been using.y arms too much and I can feel some tugging and soreness so I need to back off on that.

Also, if I hadn't mentioned it, hubby daughter and I finished assembling the platform bed b4 surgery, and I'm extremely grateful for it bc it's far easier to get into and out of - old bed was way too tall.

Oh, cool! I'm very interested in how you react! I found the main character to be non-stereotypical, which was interesting to me.

FWIW, the remaining seasons are not based on any books by Ann Cleeves, they're "based on the characters created by Ann Cleeves". So I already detect "character drift" ... but that's another story (literally).

Also, if there is any place with more depressing weather and landscape than Shetland, I don't know what! (Except maybe Finland, where you have all the blessings of bad weather plus several months of near-total darkness. A Finn who used to work for me and who went back home sent me a picture of Christmas in Finland: it looked wet, cold, and DARK.)

I looked Shetland weather up, of course. It's never really gets below freezing in the winter, but never gets much above 50F in the summer. (My guess is bc the Gulf Stream circulates that far north). It gets a LOT of rain, has a lot of cloudy days, is relatively treeless (prolly bc of sheep grazing) and is subject to violent Atlantic windstorms in fall and winter (essentially like cold-weather hurricanes).

When there is an interior scene, look at the windows and the depth of the walls: the walls are very thick, the buildings are sturdy, and the windows are small.

BTW I wondered why Ireland is also treeless. It's not cold or dry, you would think it would support a luxuriant temperate rainforest. Turns out it USED to be forested with (mostly) low-growing trees/shrubs: willow, wild cherry, rose etc. before sheep and agriculture. Apparently there is an effort to replant some native species. Maybe, bybeing sheltered from the wind, a few oaks and beech and hornbeam will take root too.

This series will be completely new to me as I know nothing about it outside of what you have said.

I think there are lots of little islands off the coast of England and Scotland. I know the Hebrides are off the coast of Scotland, at least I think. There's the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Skye too.

That would be fantastic if the Irish could do that.

Ran out of steam and ordered pizza for the family. Have to say, my sense of taste is still screwed up; it wasn't intolerable but it wasn't as tasty as I expected, either.

But it was a great break from the cooking/dishwashing treadmill. (yeah, not supposed to do dishes, but I am.) The stack of pots, pans, baking trays, jars, utensiles etc etc from a few days of b'fasts and dinners was... daunting, to say the least! At least I got to finish the pots/pans/bakeware/storage containers b4 I ran out of steam and went for a 2-hour nap! All I have left are actual dishes, which have already been scrub-rinsed, and they're not so bad.

Well, using you as an example, I don't think I can do a weekly day of rest, but I've decided to take a nap or at least a rest every day between 3-4PM, and see how that goes

That way I think my efforts will be more consistent, I won't wear myself out one day and have to take the next day, or a 3-hiur nap, to recover!

Thanks for your good example!

Great day today. I love it when things come along and take up my time and I can realize that I have so little invested in the State of the Union that life is pretty freakin' sweet around here when I'm not spending the day looking at all the fake news.

Going to go get me some groceries and load up on a bunch of free-after-rebate deals before taking a well deserved nap.
