(I don't post videos from photobucket often, maybe never. These are not embedding well. Does anyone know why? )

Here's what the real protest was like...

I wasn't planning on going to this since I hadn't even heard about it until that day. But I was in the neighborhood, so wth. I got to Washington Square at 3, so an hour past the scheduled start, and was disappointed at how small the crowd was. Then I noticed they were slowly inching their way out the north side of the square. Actually, what I saw was the back end of the March that had started almost an hour before.

I took to the sidewalk beside the March meaning to catch up with the front of it, which I did about 25 blocks north. So I did see every inch of the protest, and though I didn't plan on it I ended up walking the whole route.

This first video is the front of the March entering Madison Square at about 4:15. Many policemen are along for the ride, but I saw very little interaction between them and the protestors. Mostly the police just stopped the March at red lights so cross-town traffic could pass.

This is the protest entering City Hall Plaza maybe an hour later. This was the final point of the route.

The arrival of all the protestors took almost an hour. A few police officers did get a talking to, like this:

But there was certainly no incitement for violence and no one suggested harming police, not in any part of the March I experienced.

The beginning of this next video is a view down the arch of the City Hall building. By this time I was quite cold and tired and frankly wanted to slip through that tunnel to my subway station. But police had it blocked off. I noted many people giving that arch a look, like they were hoping to go through rather than inching their way back through the tight crowd in City Hall Plaza, but no one did. People were very respectful of all barricades, and I saw many a calm conversation between protestors and police about how best to get around.

I went the long way around and then got the next little clip. Many interesting things here. First, the beginning shows a small continuation of the March heading down a parallel street. Funny thing, they are chanting something common for the day: "What do we want? JUSTICE! When do we want it: NOW!" I wonder if this little group is the video that Breitbart doctored with the dead cops quote? Hmmm.

Second thing, I pan to the left to an intersection I'd just crossed, where a small group of people (you can't really see them) were blocking cars from moving. With road closures in City Hall Plaza, this little street was the only way traffic could get off the Brooklyn Bridge as well as the main flow from an exit off the FDR. So these 10-15 people were backing up a whole lotta cars. Not something I agree with, really. But they certainly were effective at it.

Third thing, when I pan right you see the other side of the arch I mentioned above. Really wish I could have short cut through there, but like most other protesters I didn't want to push the police at all.

Finally I got to my subway station, but noticed strange doings on the Brooklyn Bridge. Went to check. Here's what I saw at the entrance of the bridge:

I followed the police lights ahead, took almost the whole span before I caught up. A small group of protesters, clearly in a situation that they could be arrested. Occupy got arrested for doing less.

My battery ran out here, unfortunately, but the police on the other side let them pass, which I thought was wise. As you can see, many people were recording. Any "messy" arrests here would have been widely shared.

As I posted on the other thread, this is the group of people who reminded each other, once they were off the bridge and passing by large groups of police waiting in Brooklyn: "Do NOT touch the police officers!" Police Officers, they said. Not cops or pigs or any of that.

Overall, I thought the day was amazing. Breitbart and Faux and our resident trolls are trying to write this off, but the reality is that thousands of people of all colors and kinds showed up to be heard, to call for equality and justice. It was not violent. It was powerful.

Another popular chant of the day: "This is what Democracy looks like."

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Someday we'll have real democracy again. Thanks for sharing!

Again ? The last thing the Founders ever wanted was a TRUE democracy. That's why they set up the gov as a Representative Republic.

The word ' democracy' never appears in the US Constitution.

Again?
You're trying to educate libtards?
Again?
When does the effort become pointless? If you educumate them, how many hours or minutes will they retain the knowledge before forgetting everything and abandoning all reason to revert to libtardism again?

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Thanks for all the facts.

BTW, if you, like me, are annoyed at protesters getting in your way as you go about your daily business, keep in mind that the police do it too:

"Thousands of off-duty police officers thronged around City Hall yesterday, swarming through police barricades to rally on the steps of the hall and blocking traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge for nearly an hour in the most unruly and angry police demonstration in recent memory."
