Well, I see the pizza place finally found a way to make money. Claim they had to close due to terroristic threats and wait as the morons of the world send them money.

Well, when tweets are posted which call for your store to be burned down, it's more serious than a mere 'claim'.

Not exactly funny, either.

They did nothing wrong. You think they should be punished ?

Why, exactly?

I know of one tweet but even if there are more, it's just talk. What did these people think was going to happen when they started to spread their own brand of hate?

They thrust themselves into the discussion just like those tweeting them now. They are no different than those tweeting back to them.

Should they be FORCED to cater gay weddings? I wonder if they left would be offended if they said they'd refuse to cater a Nazi wedding?

That's the law if you wish to run a business that caters to the public. You morons are all the same. Here we go with the Nazi talk again, as if one subject equates to the other.

Should a black owned sign shop be FORCED to make KKK Rally signs ?

Right to refuse business is part of what being free is all about.

It's a THREAT, to do violence, it's not just " talk ".

And they never did spread any sort of hate. They made pizza. The 'hate' came looking for them, and singled them out.

Now I know you're a troll if you think they are no different than those who threatened them.

Again as with 1kiki, you show with the KKK reference, you know very little to nothing at all about the issue. All you do is react to things with very little common sense accompanying your thoughts. If anything, the kkk reference bolsters my argument, because they believed they were doing gods business as well.

I'm sorry, the time I allotted to discussing things with ideologues is up.

Sure there are ... check out the 'Kill All Infidels Bakery' on the corner of Maple Street and Death To America Avenue in Qom. For gay weddings they provide an all-inclusive menu of rope, rocks, babka, and special holy acids.

The newborn did get the check up, at the office, so it's not like they were turned away, and sent out into the cold, dark night. I just can't see any doctor acting like that.

Doctor, Muslim, catholic, Jew, evangelical you name it. Each group has it's nuts who will take advantage of a law to discriminate if the law exists that allows for that. Senators will pass those laws as well. This doctor would deny service to a six day old child in the name of her faith because the parents are gay. That's sick, and if that is what she thinks her faith is teaching her than she needs a shrink. She should lose her license to practice. I hope this gets looked into and she does.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

There are already laws that make it legal for a doctor, nurse, pharmacist or other health care provider to refuse to provide care if they claim it conflicts with their religion.

http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/blog/2007/11/when-
i-go-to-doctor-i-expect-him-or-her.html

When doctors play judge
When I go to a doctor, I expect him or her to treat me, whether I have a sore throat, a stomach-ache or something more serious. So when I found out that doctors around the country are refusing to treat patients because the patients' needs conflict with their religious beliefs, I just had to look into it further.

Turns out, it's all legal. Doctors can turn down patients and they are doing exactly that. In Pennsylvania, a woman who had been raped was denied the morning-after pill, which would prevent her from getting pregnant. In the Midwest, a woman was denied the same treatment after she had unprotected sex with a boy she was dating. And in Texas, we met a woman who told us her doctor refused to give her birth control pills because he was a Catholic and it threw his moral compass off course. "He told me he didn't believe in prescribing birth control, he thought it was morally wrong that I shouldn't be having sex and he launched into a lecture about ethically how I need to rethink things," said the woman ...

And lets not forget rappy's support for rush when his dickhead called a woman who wanted birth control to be covered by insurance a whore:

And just remember, according to Rappy, the term befitting a women who wants the insurance she pays for to cover medications affecting her reproductive organs is whore

1kiki - what the hell does Rush's joke from 3 year ago now (?) have to do w/ anything remotely concerning anything in this thread ?

It was a joke.

She wanted others to pay for her birth control, which is already readily available.

" The term applies " was also a joke, using the widely known line by Inara, from the episode " Heart of Gold " .

Good grief, your sense of humor remains lacking.

What Would Mal do ?

ok..first hand situation here....I own a small business.. I'm a conservative Christian...married to the same gal for 38 years, raise 4 of my own, and 5 grandkids...always worked hard at day job and side business to build as good a life as possible.
I admit to making jokes that are racial and anti-gay in the privacy of my own home with my wife...however we were determined when we had kids that we would raise them to be better than we were..certainly better than our parents at being "respecters of persons". My kids dated blacks, have had the closest of friends be maid of honor etc in their wedding who were black...and I have 2 very dear friends who are definitely wired to their same sex..and I would stand up to defend them against hate if it came into their face in my presence.
but I do find myself disgusted when I see flamers interjected into movie scripts etc where they simply don't even fit..or are used for some sort of sick humor moment that might have the gay boys rolling on the floor with laughter, but i sure don't get the humor....same with some of the major black actors who just can't seem to make a movie without some ancient racial comments.. Will Smith being a perfect example...jeeze Dude..get over it!
so I set all this up to say.. I'm not claiming to be anything different from the gays and blacks who have their own slang/slurs for middle aged white straight guys like me...
now...people come to my shop to rent a product from me...if they have the $ and the security deposit and proper ID...out the door it goes...but that's different from when they ask me to take my equipment to their events..
the 2 times that I've been tricked into working a major gay rally event...they customers approached us, calling it other than it was..cause they knew the challenge in getting vendors to work their event.
Once i was obligated..yes.. I honored my contract...basically cause I knew how heavily lawyered up these people are...
what i found as we pulled up, was we had to load through a wall of hate filled christians with protest signs, singing on their acoustic guitars and making it very uncomfy for us to make our way to the stage area.
we also had the local news camera crews happy to stick their camera and mic in our face as we tried to do our job...now we are publicly exposed.
then we get to stage and the day always runs the same...a hanful of chubby girls take turns standing on stage like some AA meeting, blubbering in tears as they confess their lesbo feelings...and then the boys take the stage...all dressed up like hookers in their heels, doing their best lewd routines...yeah..I feel real proud as I stand stage side at these "PRIDE" events...I'd go to the porta john to throw up, but there's 2 lesbo's occupying it as they felt they just couldn't wait any longer to gratify their new found freedoms...

look... I'm not supporting this bakery gal cause i'm some middle aged white straight guy.. I'm saying I believe she was right...if they came in to order a batch of bbq to take out for their gay event...fine..make the dang bbq and say thank you as they walk out your front door...but asking a Christian family...ie if it were my wife, daughters...to take the food to the event....stand around while we get to watch a couple boys swap spit..or in our case..get really crude in drag....no...as business owner should not be forced into that.
btw.. I refuse biker rallies for the same reason... I don't need to be around abunch of pot smoking, wet tshirt oil wrestling crap all weekend.
but now..pot is legal so am I supposed to be forced to go work those events?

oh ..and there's a coven of wikens...didn't realize it was so big in the prisons..but they come out ready to play here in town......
you get my point...why does gay trump faith? only because it's the hot new trend...
if you want to argue that it is somehow genetic and therefore needs tobe protected...ok..fine..bring it... cause that simply means that if it is truly in our wiring..then you are saying that a guy can be so attracted to another guy that he yearns to have sex with him....then you also have to acknowledge that as desireable as it is for that genetic makeup..it's equally as disgusting in my gut to a guy like me who is wired as a hetro.
so i deserve the same protection under the law.
either way... I'm not a hater...I firmly believe if 2 men or 2 women want to make a committment to each other...they should, under the law, be allowed to visit in the hospital, have community property..etc...but the law can provide for that, without calling it "marriage" ...when you do that, you are forcing the State's version of religion on me.. my religion..not a cult..but a major religion as defined by all govts...has nothing good to say about LGBT activities..and I do not consider this new Marriage law..to be "marriage"
I can not in concience...acknowledge, nor support it as such...and the more they try to shove it down my throat...and override my rights and faith..the more they make me an enemy instead of a proponent...you firefly folks..you should get that ....

But nobody actually ordered any pizza. The airhead info-bimbo went down street after street after street trying to find somebody, anybody who she could do a story on, and this was the first place that said that they wouldn't because they had morals and standards derived from their freely held religious beliefs.
They did not refuse service to anybody - just said they would.
Just like the gays business would refuse to serve a Pro-Life rally.

old guy

You have some misconceptions. The state doesn't 'recognize' religions. There is this thing called separation of church and state which is supposed to prevent state-sponsored religions. And the power to marry people is held by the state and granted to others. Hence the phrase: "By the power vested in me by the State of ______, I now pronounce you ..." Your church/ religion/ sect is free to choose to not marry or to marry same-sex couples in a religious ceremony in their church/ prayer house/ mosque/ synagogue (if it's legal in the state). If your church/ religion/ sect choses to marry them and you feel they've demeaned your religion, you need to take it up with them. If some OTHER religion - that's not yours - chooses to marry same-sex couples, I don't see how you can say they've demeaned your religion, or try to make any claim over their policies. I don't think you can require that other religions refuse to perform marriage ceremonies and call them marriages.

You seem pretty confused about the roles of government and religion in marriage.

Hi Kiki...and sincerely..thank you... your post did help my perspective..and I accept the instruction...
guess my point..if i can refine my thinking...is that I've seen the more fundamental major religions..be they Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc...hold a clear stance on "marriage"...it just hits me wrong to see the doors opened up and gay couples standing before a clerk or magistrate or notary...etc..ie Govt approved..but not clergy status authority calling it "marriage"...but I do accept your correction of my reasoning...albeit I don't know that I can ever change my "old guy" mindset to accept it as "marriage" ... I can't support the concept..don't feel I need to...and yet...they'll bring the full weight of the govt legal system down on me if i dare say a word...the idea that for a the price of a fistful of flowers, the current govt leadership is ready to pounce and utterly destroy a person's life....feels wrong.

They didn't. They likely served gays, knowingly, all the time. But choosing to not participate in a gay WEDDING, how isn't that their choice to do so ?

I wonder if they'd serve a gay softball ( no pun intended ) team, or a gay soccer team ? I bet they would.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I'm pretty old myself - raised RC but now agnostic. Back in the day - when I was in high school - one of my friends belonged to the Unitarian Universalist Church. Even back then it was pretty 'out there', with ideas that would be near the forefront even today. Their position was this: if our consciences and our beliefs and our practices are that this is a matter love and trust between two people - who are we to call them wrong? Back then they officiated at (unofficial) religious ceremonies for same sex couples. I don't understand how their choices could make anyone else's wrong. Just as I don't think a Catholic should feel demeaned by a Bar Mitzvah or a Hindu should make a Catholic queasy about communion, I don't understand how the secular laws and religious practices of other should reflect on your values. I totally don't get your pov. Tho I have to say, back in the day, my parents as devout as they were, were pretty accepting of others' beliefs. That probably formed my attitudes to a large degree. You can try to be a good person by your lights and accept that others can be trying to be good people by theirs.

Would you say the same if they refused to serve a Black wedding party, or a Hispanic wedding party. Refusing service is discrimination PERIOD as you yanks say. Why should it be allowed?

This is just sad.

Which religion prohibits blacks from marrying?
Which religion prohibits hispanics from marrying? A very large majority of hispanics are Catholic, which often prohibit gay marriage.

They have the right to lend their name & services to a private function. Even gay small business owners agree & even contributed to their fund.

And now in Colorado, which ruled a few years ago that a bakery cannot refuse to cater a gay wedding on religious grounds, has now ruled that Azucar bakery was right to refuse to make a Bible-shaped cake with Bible verses on it, because the baker felt they were discriminatory. Hint: Bible verses are based on religion.

quoting:
Jack is a founder of Worldview Academy, a “non-denominational organization dedicated to helping Christians think and live in accord with a Biblical worldview,” according to the organization’s website. He said in a statement to KUSA-TV that people are trying to censor the Bible using state laws and he plans to appeal.

“It is offensive that the bakers who refused me service deemed the Bible verses I requested on two cakes discriminatory, and the Colorado Civil rights Division considered that reason enough for them to deny me service,” he said.

/

After initially declining to comment to reporters last week on the details of his complaint, Jack now says that Silva mis-remembered the specific phrases he asked her to inscribe.

Here’s his side of the story, from World Magazine:

In an email to WORLD, he wrote that he requested two cakes in the shape of an open Bible. He asked that the first cake show on one page, “God hates sin—Psalm 45:7,” and on the facing page, “Homosexuality is a detestable sin—Leviticus 18:22.” He requested that the second cake have on one page, “God loves sinners,” and on the facing page, “While we were yet sinners Christ died for us—Romans 5:8.”

Of course, trying to find this story in a search engine produces the liberal lies version "he wanted GOD HATES GAYS" which is not a Bible verse, but the baker ditz apparently cannot read. And she refused to decorate these Bible verses during Christian Holy Week.

Look up the meaning of 'discrimination'

Discrimination is not a word used in the Declaration of Independence or it's Preamble. Nor in the Constitution nor it first 13 Amendments.

Discrimination is not a word present in the Bible.

Are you saying discrimination as defined by American Law should be allowed AGAINST Religion, a violation of our Bill of Rights' Freedom of Religion? But you feel exercise of our Freedom of Religion should be redefined as discrimination?

Try to stay on topic. If you wish to interject Aussie views of Law, please be so kind as to fill us in on the vagarities of your legal definitions.

In Constitutional Law, the grant by statute of particular privileges to a class arbitrarily designated from a sizable number of persons, where no reasonable distinction exists between the favored and disfavored classes. Federal laws, supplemented by court decisions, prohibit discrimination in such areas as employment, housing, voting rights, education, and access to public facilities. They also proscribe discrimination on the basis of race, age, sex, nationality, disability, or religion. In addition, state and local laws can prohibit discrimination in these areas and in others not covered by federal laws.

Forced participation in violating Religious Beliefs or practices does not qualify as "employment, housing, voting rights, education, or access to public facilities."

So are you saying it's OK to discriminate against gays following their religion if their religion says it's OK to get married?

Try to find an argument that only allows discrimination one way - if you can.
