Sorry Sigs and Wish and others.....

There was a time when i would put a ridiculous thread, and/or a thread about NES music that I loved, and it would disappear in 2 or 3 days here.....

Now I put a new thread when I'm blind drunk, and 2-3 weeks later it's still in the top newest threads when I come back.

Shit....

This really sucks.....

I'm turning 36 next week.....

Nathan and most of the original FF crew will be 40 or near that age soon....

At best, we were part of something that will hopefully become a "cult phenomenon" in the vein of Stanly Kuberick's Clockwork Orange.

I fucking hate that movie and anything with hardcore violence for no reason, so I'd rather compare us to those who had a hard core love for Maniquenne 2.

I'm not a fan of mindless indulgence at 36 years old, but truth be told I was about 11 when I saw this in the theatres and i sat there with a hard-core boner for Kristy Swanson for nearly two hours.

Don't hate on me..........

Kristy Swanson was the original Buffy....

Bitches. ;)

and because it was the theme song for the first movie, they bombarded us with the last like 4 seconds of the preview here, they showed "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", on the preview video.....

Nobody is buying it. It's like suspending belief to the extent that you believe that Kim Cattrel was still even remotely sexy in 1998 when "Sex in the City" first aired, let alone being so deluded as believing that she's even human today after all of the facial work....

She really was something back when I was 10 years old and saw Maniquenne for the first time though.

If it's any consolation prize, the only thing I ever seen the main guy from that movie on in the last 10 years was the bad guy in a great episode of "MONK". He is a much better actor, but he disappeared in Hollywood since he didn't have the sex draw after he reached 20 years old (after Weekend and Bernies 2).

I'm glad that Kim Kattrel could make some money late in her Hollywood life, but she's no K. Bates. It takes a VERY special woman to enthrall an audience with absolutely zero sex appeal, and she just doesn't have it.

As As terrible as this this scene is, .......

I'd live through it 10,000 times rather than live through the first season of Sex in the City......

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Fans are not here at RWED because neither Joss nor Zack Whedon are writing Serenity comics. Instead, Joss is writing Twist, “with the most personal question that can be put to us, which is why isn’t there a Victorian female Batman?” www.theguardian.com/books/2015/jul/14/joss-whedon-returns-comics-twist

Yeah, I think it's over.

Con Man raised $3,156,069. Money is a problem with Firefly. It's a million dollars an episode to pay the hundred people listed in the credits. On the other hand, comics only need half a dozen people. And the one writer doesn't need to be Joss. But it's been years since he wrote a Buffy or an Angel. Or even a Firefly, possibly because Firefly comics don't make enough money.

It looks like there were only 42,000 diehard fans of Firefly in North America. www.comichron.com/monthlycomicssales/2014.html

Issue #1 sold for 4 months until it was selling too few to bother reporting. Issues #2 and 3 sold for 3 months. Issue #4 for 2 months. Issues #5 and 6 for 1 month. That would discourage Joss from even bothering thinking about working on Firefly.

Serenity Leaves On The Wind 1 $3.50 Dark Horse 47,285

Not everybody that likes FF likes comics. I bought them "just because" but wouldn't for anything else.

Not to mention, a LOT of the people who come here -and I've talked to hundreds over the years- have NO IDEA there WERE comics. If I hadn't found this place by accident ten years ago, I wouldn't have known, either.

I don't think comic sales are the full representation of our diversity.

I mean $3 mil is nothing to sneeze at.

They aren't much of a fan if they won't type the seven letters of firefly into their browser. I googled firefly. The first entry is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly_%28TV_series%29#Media_franchise

It is about the comics.

The second entry for firefly on bing.com and yahoo.com is about the comics.

The third entry for firefly on duckduckgo.com is about the comics.

Joss will make more money by not making more Firefly comics for people who won't buy them. But he might start an indiegogo campaign like Con Man. www.indiegogo.com/projects/con-man#/story

That way he knows for sure he gets paid well enough. He puts the me in mercenary.

You REALLY think everyone works or should work the way you operate don't you?

The show has been dead over TEN years. Most people would have no reason to go looking for more material. The comics didn't even come out for several years after... I think we've done well to get people to watch the series, not even to make the connection that there's a movie.

You vastly overestimate the general publics' attention span on ANY one thing.

RWED is dead because Firefly is in a coma. I think Firefly could happily live on as a monthly comic. Buffy and Angel & Faith do. Between movies, Superman, Batman, and Star Wars are in comics coming out every week of the year.

But the story ideas for a monthly Firefly comic need to come from somewhere. Where are those ideas?

Joss, very clearly, does not share my belief that there are enough ideas to go monthly, or even yearly, with a Firefly comic. I should have known ten years ago.

The very first comic, Serenity #1 in July 2005, was a Brett Matthews' script. Joss never wrote even one Serenity comic. Why would that be? Was he too busy? No. His story idea pump is sucking dust. Maybe his writing career is in the middle of a middle age crisis.

I just checked on his 2014 movie, In Your Eyes. Whedon wrote this script in 1992, when he just moved out to Los Angeles. Age of Ultron 2015? Ultron's origin story is from the 1960's, back when Joss was a tiny tot.

Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing in 2012? Written in 1599.

Joss was so young when he burnt out on Firefly. That's why Firefly is in a coma and RWED is dead.

Firefly was one of my only True Loves in my life.

Serenity was a "neat" movie, but I've expressed how I felt that even without sequels it was the death-blow to the Verse because it so neatly wrapped what could have been 9-10 seasons worth of awesome episodes in a neat little bow in just under/over 2 hours.....

Comics are "neat" too. I guess it would be nice to know that at least the Verse liveon in some tangible way, although I would never read the comics or graphic novels. It's not that I'm above them or against them... I just don't find enjoyment in that type of media.

Firefly will NODOUBT see a ressurection in the future.....

Think about the recent ressurections of franchises like He-Man, Thundercats, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc.....

Although OUR CREW and OUR CAPTAIN will NEVER be done in Real Life again, there is no reason that there can't be a billion and one adventures in the Verse they trailblazed. In fact, I hope and pray that it happens time and again before I die.

I only have two wishes for the Verse if it's added to.....

1. The underlying alliance of an American/Chinese space authority doesn't change, even if we're besties with New Zealand tomorrow or the US is made a 3rd world country.

2. AND MOST IMPORTANT.... Firefly Cannon is always followed.

I've never been a Starwars or Startrek geek, although I do admit that I enjoyed quite a bit of all of them.

Firefly though, doesn't have much cannon to follow. Just about 13 episodes, and a movie well in the future that explained away what well could have been an AWESOME weekly series that could have lasted at least until 2012.

Seriously..... I'm not asking for any "print" materials to be considered "cannon".

Make what you want of the Verse..... That's what Mal would have done.

Just don't fuck at all with the lives and times of the 20 or so hours that meant so much to so many.

Seriously.....

Take all of the TV shows and the movie Serenity, and you can't even fill a bottle with a full day with that footage....

Maybe through Kickstarter or other campaigns we can get Firefly back off the ground, even though it will likely have other cast members and our old crew would just be happy cameos....

But Hold True to the original Day.

Anything can happen in the Verse....

It just has to happen around that Perfect Time.

I don't think that's much to ask. In fact, aside from the movie Serenity and it's outcome, I don't even see how it's limiting at all. Hands of blue weren't even touched....... Also, even though all the crew were still young and desirable in Serenity, there's no reason to believe that there wasn't some sort of food-additives or a benefit from always flying that didn't keep you much younger than your years when the movie came out.

Seriously though, wasn't Kaylee cute as heck? I thought I got to know something about that when I was learning about electronics and mechanics, but then I watched "Agents of Shield" and realized that if my parents were better than they were that I probably would have been Fitz or Simmons.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I come back when I'm bored, and I'm also keeping an eye on the Fireflyfans Online game.

It's interesting seeing old faces posting fanfic. I used to fight with some of them over characterization or shipping. I was kinda dumb.

Yeah, unfortunately I think most have moved on, and I haven't been impressed with recent Joss Whedon fare that wasn't the Avenger's movie, and that wasn't my cup of tea anyway. And even though I defended the comics and tried to find parts in them that were well executed and consistent with what I thought the verse should be, they had flaws. Too many flaws. So I drifted away.

I got along with some people here, made some mistakes, had fall-outs with other people. That happens though.

If I see any new Firefly stuff that actually looks good or promising, without any "caveats or addendums," I'll be first in line. Until then, I'll be sparse, I'll be looking at/working on other things, and I'll be waiting.

You may have a valid point about the RWED, but A Clockwork Orange!?

I have always been fond of that movie, and I don't know why! Well, to begin, it's a commentary on violence and the affects on social norms, teenagers, government intrusion and involvement in the grand scheme of things. It is not violence for violence sake, but rather an interpretation of an interesting book on the topic.

The book is near brilliant as is the movie. Stimulating visually, musically and in it's unabashed delivery. It is a cult classic for a reason. But I digress. Yes, many have left the fold and have gone on to other things. And so, it's just a handful that are fanning the embers, keeping the faith. Sadly, we have been outflanked by Fox, and those evil bastards would rather eat shit than admit they were wrong about Firefly.

It is a sad state of affairs that the heated discussions here at RWED are just lukewarm now. Fizzling out, dead-ski, ariversdirty!

Still in production mode, I think. And I can understand that about Steam, I hate it, only on it because just about everyone else I know is.

Not too much with me, some internet drama, some health stuff, but me and the people I know IRL are still alive so not too big a deal. I've also grown as a person, become a lot more chill. Was hanging out with some people who are depressed, and seeing who handled it well and who didn't made me do some introspection. I still have the same ideas about the world, but I'm less of a sniveling resentful judgmental shitheel. So, progress.

Almost bid on some land by Bryce Canyon which is a dream of mine, but decided that particular one wasn't the deal I was looking for, and I also finally got an apple tree to successfully graft.

Huh, you've changed your writing style a lot since I last saw you PN. Still, Good to see you.

I actually saw the new Firefly comics as really good at exposing tactics that shady government types do to root out dissidents, and also pointing the finger at and hinting at the psychological experiment stuff (MKUltra and etc). It's just, egads, the pacing issues.

A story can have a great message, but it's got to be told well to hold the audience and the attention. Otherwise people looking for more information on that kinda stuff will wander off and look elsewhere.

And hey, no worries, when it comes to dating, you gotta figure out what fits you, and hey, maybe you'll figure out a way to fit that in religiously.

The more radical non-conformists BYTE, FREM ... well, Trump made their heads blow off. Plus, FREM might have gotten banned for making terrorist threats.

CAPNCRUNCH's paid assignment ended.

Two hate-speech posters (TWITCHY, REAVERBOT) got scared bc they thought their IDs were compromised.

And the partisan establishment Dems ... JO753, THUGR, SECOND... are seemingly embarrassed, or at least spectacularly unenthusiastic ... about the Biden* admin and the "woke"-appeasing, identity politics-pushing DNC.

I would say MOST of the posters here we're not interested in a robust discussion ... which involves listening, and all of that listening made their heads hurt! ... They just wanted to push a POV and maybe bully ppl

So who does that leave?

It's a shame bc I'm always up for a good discussion.
