Its no mystery why the top 1% hav more wealth than the bottom 90%. We give them the power to take wutever they want.

We lissin to rich peepl bekuz they are rich. A billionaire can 'get heard' by calling the media, riting an op-ed, or, if they wont put him on TV or print hiz opinion, he can buy a bunch uv billboardz and put it in frunt uv 1,000,000 commuterz stuck in traffic.

Billionairez can declare their candidacy for any offis and will be taken seriously enuf to get free air time. No matter how simple minded , stoopid or boringly standard their 'ajenda' iz, peepl will lissin. And, az Trump proovd, enuf peepl can agree and he can win.

The career politicianz require hyooj amounts uv money to get any attention. Alot uv that money kumz frum rich donerz, effectively making the candidates the nomineez uv the rich.

The election lawz seem to be ritten purposely to eliminate anybody who cant get enuf money together.

Forget ideaz, ideolojy, IQ, experiens. Insted, like the song sez, lissen to the money tok.

I wasn't a die hard or anything. The only song I'd ever heard by them growing up was Silent Lucidity. I had a boss that was huge into them and showed me Operation Mindcrime. I kind of wished I'd grown up with it. I was already around 28 at that point so it didn't have the impact it would have. It was still pretty great.

Speaking of religious wingnuts, I didn't know that ICP had sampled one of the greatest "religious" con-men ever, Estus Perkle, for their song "Pass Me By"

I just found that out the other day when I was watching The Cinema Snob cover the movie "The Believer's Heaven" and I recognized the voice. He didn't mention ICP at all, but I knew that was the nutjob.

My favorite religous song still is, and probably forever will be "God Bless All the Universe" by Reverend Rooney and the Rocksta Chior for the first GTA on Playstation.

"I prefer God to my kids".

And strangely - not a single fact about Trump, Putin, and collusion.

eta: I think where you're going wrong is that the whole fake news process disorients you. If someone like Maddow takes some suppositions, and puts them together with other suppositions, then pastes them into a whole narrative of suppositions held together with more suppositions that makes sense to you - (because you already believe it; and because other people believe it; and because it fits with how you think in general) - you thinks it makes all the suppositions into facts.

When they are still just suppositions.

HAS IT NOT OCCURRED TO YOU BY NOW THAT IF YOU HAVE TO RESORT TO LOGICAL FALLACIES AND TROLLING YOUR SO-CALLED ARGUMENTS ARE LIES?

You want to have some fun, spend an hour at one of those realty.com or zillow.com real estate sites and check out what's for sale in SanFran. I haven't done that in a while... see what you get for $1,000,000. If you want to be even more "entertained," check out Manhattan - you get a a cot and a bucket for $1.5 mill. I think London might be even worse.

ETA - wow! Zillow: Of the roughly 1400 listings in SF "For Sale" almost 200 are either foreclosed or pre-foreclosed, almost 15% - daaaaaaamn.

I picked Biss for Governor kuz he iznt a billionaire and haz sum pozitionz I can liv with. He lost to Pritzger, who seemz like he will be the next scandal plaged IL Noize Governor.

The only pik that won for me iz Kwame Raoul for Attorney Jeneral.

I've always wanted to build one of those of my own man. One of these days I will, but I've just got too many pressing big ticket items I need to take care of before I could justify the expense.

I admire you for putting yourself out there on the internet like that man. I've largely stayed "anon" outside of my drunken Facebook embarrassments, and I've since sworn off all social media.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and do it at some point though if I want to go forward with making money off of my project I'm working on though. I've got a lot of ideas swimming in my head about the best way to go forward with it, but since it's still a long way from being at a point that I can start trying to monetize my work, I still have time to figure all of that out.

If I do go forward with plans at any time in the future and start putting this work out there it would have to be tied to my real identity, and I don't want some people here knowing who I am. All I need is somebody off their meds one night doing a google search and finding my stuff and posting their bile all over it... or worse.

There are some people here that I wouldn't mind sharing this with when the time comes. You're on the short list.

What took them so long! This is so bad - how can anyone believe any of the garbage they put out.

Carlson: "First the Democrats said Trump was too corrupt to be president, but now they are using this creepy porn lawyer to go after him..." The Dems didn't hire him for Daniel's case, although I'd bet there are enough morons watching Fox to think that somehow they got to her to hire him. Like children that think there's a boogie man under their bed.

And yes, I can just feature Trump calling over and telling them to run this hit piece and also telling them to call him a "creepy porn lawyer" as often as you can.

Boringness iz an identifying karakteristic for competens for most peeple.

Tom Perez iz chairman bekuz he iz a good match for the group mindset.

I think its possible. Stoopid lame trivia goez viral all the time for no apparent reazon, so why not sumthing important?

Goldfish or Asian carp? Why it matters in the Great Lakes.

A bill passed Tuesday in the House of Representatives gives the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative $300 million annually. Although a huge chunk of this budget is slated to preserve the Midwestern waterway by keeping invasive Asian carp out, many who study and fish the Great Lakes are recognizing that the impacts of invasive species, both environmental and economic, sometimes call for creative approaches to mitigation.

Another invasive fish is proving to have some uses for Great Lakes fishermen. Non-native goldfish – also known as golden carp – have been arriving at docks as a byproduct of more traditional catches for at least 50 years, and states have tried to persuade pet owners to keep unwanted goldfish out of waterways, with mixed success.

...[ But] It's very sobering," Marc Gaden, spokesman for the Great Lakes Fishery Commission told the Associated Press. "Lake Erie is one of the most productive inland fisheries in the world. It wouldn't be as valuable by any stretch of the imagination if one out of every three pounds of fish were Asian carp."

So please, don't throw your unwanted fish into "the lake". That's how we got the snakehead and Asian carp into our waterways, and it's a real problem.

Trump waited to run for president until he sensed that a critical mass of Americans had decided politics were all a show and a sham. If the whole thing is rigged, Trump’s brilliance was calling that out in the most impolitic ways possible, deriding his straight-arrow competitors as fakers and losers and liars—because that bullshit-calling was uniquely candid and authentic in the age of fake.

Trump took a key piece of cynical wisdom about show business—the most important thing is sincerity, and once you can fake that, you’ve got it made—to a new level: His actual thuggish sincerity is the opposite of the old-fashioned, goody-goody sanctimony that people hate in politicians.

If he were just a truth-telling wise guy, however, he wouldn’t have won. Trump’s genius was to exploit the skeptical disillusion with politics—there’s too much equivocating; democracy’s a charade—but also to pander to Americans’ magical thinking about national greatness. Extreme credulity is a fraternal twin of extreme skepticism.

“I will give you everything,” Trump actually promised during the campaign. Yes: “Every dream you’ve ever dreamed for your country” will come true.

Another way the GOP got loopy was by overdoing libertarianism. I have some libertarian tendencies, but at full-strength purity it’s an ideology most boys grow out of. On the American right since the ’80s, however, they have not. Republicans are very selective, cherry-picking libertarians: Let business do whatever it wants but don’t spoil poor people with government handouts; let individuals have gun arsenals but not abortions or recreational drugs or marriage with whomever they wish; and don’t mention Ayn Rand’s atheism. Libertarianism, remember, is an ideology whose most widely read and influential texts are explicitly fiction. “I grew up reading Ayn Rand,” Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has said, “and it taught me quite a bit about who I am and what my value systems are, and what my beliefs are.” It was that fiction that allowed him and so many other higher-IQ Americans to see modern America as a dystopia in which selfishness is righteous and they are the last heroes. “I think a lot of people,” Ryan said in 2009, “would observe that we are right now living in an Ayn Rand novel.” I’m assuming he meant Atlas Shrugged, the novel that Trump’s secretary of state (and former CEO of ExxonMobil) has said is his favorite book. It’s the story of a heroic cabal of men’s-men industrialists who cause the U.S. government to collapse so they can take over, start again, and make everything right.

Red about Prezident Warren Harding. Good to know how thingz can go rong. Also how a campane can work without the usual 'running' part.

Funny exerpt:

Harding's vague oratory irritated some; McAdoo described a typical Harding speech as "an army of pompous phrases moving over the landscape in search of an idea. Sometimes these meandering words actually capture a straggling thought and bear it triumphantly, a prisoner in their midst, until it died of servitude and over work."

You keep labeling me a Republican, and I know I have a lot of Libertarian views.

Let's address my personal feelings on the issues you've mentioned here:

1. Let business do whatever it wants but don’t spoil poor people with government handouts;

I don't think I'd ever say "Let businesses do whatever they want". Decades of that have brought us to where we are now, where a majority of Americans are working jobs that can't support a family.

In some instances, Government should be out of the equation, while in others it should be regulating things. For instance, why does Disney seem to own everything today? Why hasn't the government stepped in and put a stop to that by breaking Disney down and preventing it from hoovering up the entire entertainment industry?

As for poor people and benefits, I've argued a lot with JSF on that topic here. At least until the point where we can put everyone to work where they can be at lest somewhat gainfully employed, it's better for all of us if the poorest people have access to food, rather than breaking into your home or robbing you on the street to feed themselves and their families.

There is a good argument against benefits at the same time as well. I find myself on the cusp of that situation. In all honesty, I could go to my work and cut the amount of days per week I am available by 1, which would be 4 less days per month, or 48 days less per year. If I were to do that, I would essentially be making the same amount of money because I could apply for food stamps and get the individual maximum of nearly 200 per month, and I would qualify for what is essentially free health insurance again.

The only thing stopping me from doing that is me. I don't want to be on the dole anymore. The rational part of my mind knows that I'm doing extra work with absolutely no financial benefit to myself, but money isn't everything. It's an extra night of working out every week, and even though I don't have much I can feel a lot better about myself by not getting handouts. Most people wouldn't do that if given the choice. Alcoholic, binge drinking old-me was one of them.

2. let individuals have gun arsenals but not abortions or recreational drugs or marriage with whomever they wish;

I'm not going to start yet another gun debate here, but I support gun rights. Period.

Abortions - You may or may not recall my personal story about abortions, or the fact that I feel that anyone who gets one is a monster and a child murderer. At the same time though, I've said that the legality of this is not a Government issue as long as it can be done safely, and it isn't done on taxpayer dollars. If you want to kill your kid before it's born, that's your burden to bear the rest of your life.

My only desire here other than making the person getting the abortion to pay for it themselves is to give men more rights when it comes to this issue. As it stands now, women have 100% of the say. Have the kid and force the dad to pay child support for the next 18 years, or just kill the kid and the dad-to-be has absolutely no way of stopping this.

Gay Marriage - I have no problem with this one at all. Let anybody marry anybody they want to, particularly for the tax benefits of it all. At the same time though, don't force a church to do the ceremony or recognize it. There are plenty of churches who will marry gay people, and all of these marriages by law now are recognized by the government. I see no benefit to getting Government to force churches to do it.

I've never read Atlas Shrugged. I would recommend Empire by Orson Scott Card. It's an entertaining read. I still haven't read the followup Hidden Empire, although the XBox 360 game "Shadow Complex" which supposedly bridges the two novels was great.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Great quote! They don't write 'em like that any more.

This: "capture a straggling thought and bear it triumphantly, a prisoner in their midst, until it died of servitude and over work" reminds me of "Make America Great Again" which was so transparent and over used, that it was pretty well dead on arrival for most of us, worthy of nothing more than an eye roll. And yet it continues to make Trump Believers swell with righteous servitude. The one's and zero's of a Trump believer's mind...

Jo - I think if we've learned anything from Trump it's that if you can find a group large enough and dumb enough, and play to their sense of self pity and pettiness, (Six's "I'm going to vote Trump 2020 'cuz I know it pisses some people off") you will have a loyal army that will follow you anywhere. It will be an army of dunces and lawbreakers, but a vote from an idiot counts as much as a vote from a saint or a genius, and they're a lot easier to get.

BTW - do you have a slogan yet?
