Care to double down on your bullshit?

So I see you DID double down on your bullshit! But in fact, he didn't actually SAY any of those things that you want to lampoon him for. Just like I never said I love Trump - or even support him - or even will vote for him.

But hey, if the only way you can win an argument is to invent words and attribute those words to other people just to show how wrong they are - well, whatever you need to do to float your boat.

Btw, as another example of quotes being mis-attributed (to the wrong person), Sarah Palin never did say 'I can see Russia from my house'. Tina Fey did. But Palin sure got a lot of flack for it.

Let me just point out that the author left out vital relevant facts in the opinion piece. Doing that is known as cherry-picking. And whether you do that in the news, in discussion, in debate or in opinion, when you distort the facts, you've changed the nature of your communication into propaganda. But WE don't have any of THAT in the US, do we?!

Charles Gibson asked Palin what insight she had gained from living so close to Russia, and she responded: "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska." But Palin doesn’t speak Russian and she doesn’t live on Little Diomede island. She was pretending to know Russia. It was all make-believe foreign policy experience for Palin. She very much deserved to be mocked over her remark.

When he talks without thinking, Trump imitates the Hulk. Is it wrong to draw a shirtless Trump with orange skin and purple pants? I think not, but a literal minded supporter would say the cartoon is untruthful, since Trump wears a shirt and the Hulk is green.

I agree. Just not Tina Fey's remark, which a lot of people ASSUMED Palin said - which is why it ended up on Snopes.

You see, if you have a valid criticism, you don't need to invent something - and then claim it's true because it has an air of 'truthiness' about it. All you have to do is point out the real truth.

"the case has been quietly progressing in the background and the brouhaha - and Trump's complaints- didn't surface until all related documents were made public. Which still seems like an odd move to me and one that has never been addressed."

Funny thing......the case had been progressing quietly until Trump opened his big yapper and made the case public.

http://www.pvangels.com/news-mexico/178956/trump-presses-case-against-
mexican-judge-curiel

"In public, Trump has called repeatedly for the judge to recuse himself, but his lawyers in fact have not made any such request. That is undoubtedly because court precedents are unanimous in holding that race, ethnicity, gender, religion and sexual orientation are not themselves grounds for disqualifying a judge. If they were, legal ethicists observe, the legal system would fall into chaos because no judge would be free from taint. The five Supreme Court justices who are Catholic could not rule on a case in which the Catholic church participated, but neither could the other justices who are not Catholic.

Moreover, while Trump is free to say anything he wants about the judge, the lawyers in the case are bound by the professional rules of conduct and could be sanctioned for making such charges about Curiel without actual evidence of bias."
Legal ethics expert Stephen Gillers notes in addition that litigants may not wait to seek a judge's disqualification; they must move to recuse the judge as soon as they know there is a conflict.

Trump's lawyers, from the prestigious O'Melveny & Myers firm, however, have not done that. Indeed, some observers argue that the judge did the candidate a big favor by postponing the trial in the case until after the election. And Trump did not become bellicose about Curiel until the judge, at the request of news organizations, ordered the unsealing of documents in the case— documents that have proved embarrassing for the GOP presumptive nominee.

"This is not really about rebutting accusations that Trump University defrauded its students," said NYU's Gillers. Rather, it is a kind of dog whistle to supporters, "a way to keep the subject of illegal Mexican immigration on the front page."
Judge Curiel, appointed to the federal bench by President Obama, was born in Indiana, the son of Mexican-American immigrants. He served for 17 years as a federal prosecutor in California, rising to chief of narcotics enforcement in the southern district. In 1997 he was believed to be the target of an assassination attempt from a Mexican drug cartel, was put under 24-hour watch by the U.S. Marshall Service for a year, was moved to a military base and eventually to Justice Department headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The judge's friend, former U.S. Attorney Gregory Vega, scoffs at the notion that Curiel will be in any way influenced by Trump's remarks. "What's so ironic is that Gonzalo gave so many years of his life to protecting America from drug traffickers," Vega told Yahoo News. "He had a credible threat on his life. Do you really think being called [names] by Mr. Trump is going to frighten him? How silly."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So Judge Curiel has actually ruled, many times I might add, in Trump's favor and even moved the trial date back until after the election. Hmmm, now let's see his being "Mexican" surely must have had some influence on such a totally uncalled for and biased attack. The nerve of that man changing his day in court to benefit him.
How dare he?

Trump's high-octane attorneys surely fell asleep at the wheel, they should be fired for such an outrage. Timing is everything.

There's more..............................

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/judge-ordered-release-hundreds-pages-154
800848.html

"When explaining the disclosure, Curiel pointed to a previous case that states courts must consider if a public official benefits from confidentiality and if the documents involve issues of public interest. He also noted that Politico published one of the "playbooks" from 2010 in its entirety in March."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/judge-orders-release-of-intern
al-trump-university-documents/2016/05/28/2e960e5e-24f9-11e6-8690-f14ca9de2972_story.html?postshare=6741464469564364

"In his order, Curiel noted that Trump had emerged as a leading presidential candidate over the course of the civil case against Trump University and that Trump had “placed the integrity of these court proceedings at issue.” The judge pointed to a previous case to say that courts deciding on public disclosure must weigh “whether a party benefitting from the order of confidentiality is a public entity or official; and .?.?. whether the case involves issues important to the public.”

Granted, the Yahoo article isn't quite as good, journalistically speaking, as the
Washington post article (certain dates not properly notated), but you get the gist
of the news behind Trump's accusations of bias and shameful behavior. Curiel used
the law, (OMFG, what a nightmare!) and not mere speculation and innuendo. Besides,
the point of his argument was rendered moot when Politico had published a portion
of the so-called "Playbook" prior to the judge's decision.

"All you have to do is point out the real truth." If you believe that, then you have misunderstood all of recorded history. Nuanced truth, with all its twisty and turning details, does not triumph over big, blunt falsehoods vividly told. And Trump has banned another media outlet from his events. I predict that it will just passively surrender. Nobody from the media will sass Trump to his face and either demand he bring his proof with him or mock him as he answers questions. Instead, they will be his stenographers during Trump events.
Quote:

Donald Trump announced Monday that he was revoking media credentials from the Washington Post, another sign that he does not tolerate criticism that often comes with presidential campaigns.

Trump has previously banned Politico, BuzzFeed, the Daily Beast, the Des Moines Register and other publications from attending his press events and rallies. But the Post ban is new territory, given the paper's historic role in covering campaigns and setting the nation's political agenda.

America has already seen a billionaire wacko run for President: Ross Perot. At least Perot withdrew from the race, partially because the Republican party was NOT financing his run, but then Perot's ego got in the way and he returned to campaigning. Since Trump has Republican money to supplement Trump money, Trump probably won't do a Perot.

KIKI is anti-Hillary. That doesn't mean KIKI is pro-Trump. I expect that there is a good chance that KIKI will vote "down-ticket" this November.

In the meantime, I'm so anti-Hillary/ anti-establishment, I probably WILL vote for Trump.

Try not to conflate us, we're not the same on this.

For my next trick, I cut-and-paste a commencement video. Your best next move is to argue that Ken Burns is opinionated, but no expert on Presidents, and therefore he could not factually know that Trump is not qualified. I just realized who is an expert on Presidents -- other Presidents and ex-Presidents! None of them endorse Trump. Two of the Republican ex-Presidents specifically condemn Trump to eternal damnation.

Something very odd happened to Donald Trump Tuesday night.

Specifically, speaking in North Carolina, Trump said that American soldiers in Iraq were passing out baskets full of money and implied that some of them stole that money and are now “living very well.”

The Trump campaign has denied he’d ever said any such thing, arguing that Trump was accusing Iraqi, not American soldiers, of corruption. Watch the clip and judge for yourself, but if you ask me, it’s unambiguous that Trump was saying American soldiers stole money:

Broadly speaking, Trump was talking about tens of thousands of US soldiers and tons of cash transactions. It’s a bit of an odd thing to bring up on the campaign trail, but it’s arguably an example of the kind of incompetent leadership by the mainstream governing class that’s fueled Trump’s rise. But instead of explaining himself or defending himself, Trump’s campaign is just out there pretending he never said it.

Your opinion as stated by you is that most charitable foundations are covers for investment and development which is Capitalism used in impoverished areas of the world to help move them out of poverty. That very concept is admirable. Yet without prof you claim foul against the Clinton foundation which does this, because it suits your purpose and helps you to promote Trump the Capitalist. A contradiction don't you think? Promoting the man who uses capitalism for nothing more than personal gain, and chastising those who use it help out those in need.

Yep, odd indeed. But this is Drumpf we're talking about, he IS odd, so much so that he comes up with the weirdest conspiracy theories. I heard clear as a bell - right after he said "soldiers" he said "they must be living very well."

And, as everyone knows, there's only one person that can live well in this country...Double D - Donald Drumpf! Even more odd......is that possible?.....no one knows if he's purposefully trying to sabotage his own campaign, or if he's that
insane. Doesn't his campaign manager have any say in the matter? I hope that he got
paid up front, you know Donald's M.O.

Then you have the brave B.S.A.s over at the House (B.S.A. - Bull Shit Artists) doing their best mime act....what? where? who?........no comment. Drumpf is going down in flames and these guys are so busy getting out of the way, that they look like the Keystone Cops from the silent era (in case there's any question, I'm speaking about Congress, Repubs, you know...the guys that are cramming the doorway trying to escape without commenting on way they're backing Drumpf. It would be hilarious except that this is our country that we're talking about. This fool is this close to the Highest Office in the land.

He's so far gone that his poll numbers are ridiculous - over 70% negative nationwide, by comparison Hilary's negative numbers are 55%. Not good but any means. But she leads him by 12 points in national polls. Meanwhile Bernie is busy
badmouthing the Democratic leader and trying to make himself relevant again. Can anyone say "this lion has no teeth."

The only greatness Trump knows is about himself

It is the most famous ducktail in America today, the hairdo of wayward youth of a bygone era, and it’s astonishing to imagine it under the spotlight in Cleveland, being cheered by Republican dignitaries. The class hood, the bully and braggart, the guy revving his pink Chevy to make the pipes rumble, presiding over the student council. This is the C-minus guy who sat behind you in history and poked you with his pencil and smirked when you asked him to stop. That smirk is now on every front page in America. It is not what anybody — left, right, or center — looks for in a president. There’s no philosophy here, just an attitude.

He is a little old for a ducktail. By the age of 70, most ducks have moved on, but not Donald. He is apparently still fond of the sidewalls and the duck’s ass in back and he is proud as can be of his great feat, the first punk candidate to get this close to the White House. He says that the country is run by a bunch of clowns and that he is going to make things great again and beat up on the outsiders who are coming into our neighborhood. His followers don’t necessarily believe that — what they love about him is what kids loved about Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious, the fact that he horrifies the powers that be and when you are pro-duck you are giving the finger to Congress, the press, clergy, lawyers, teachers, cake-eaters, big mucketymucks, VIPs, all those people who think they’re better than you — you have the power to scare the pants off them, and that’s what this candidate does better than anybody else.

After the worst mass shooting in American history on Sunday, 49 persons dead in Orlando, the bodies still being carted from the building, the faces of horror-stricken cops and EMTs on TV, the gentleman issued a statement on Twitter thanking his followers for their congratulations, that the tragedy showed that he had been “right” in calling for America to get “tough.”

Anyone else would have expressed sorrow. The gentleman expressed what was in his heart, which was personal pride.

We had a dozen or so ducktails in my high school class and they were all about looks. The hooded eyes, the sculpted swoop of the hair, the curled lip. They emulated Elvis but only the look, not the talent. Their sole ambition was to make an impression, to slouch gracefully and exhale in an artful manner. In the natural course of things, they struggled after graduation, some tried law enforcement for the prestige of it, others became barflies. If they were drafted, the Army got them shaped up in a month or two. Eventually, they all calmed down, got hitched up to a mortgage, worried about their blood pressure, lost the chippiness, let their hair down. But if your dad was rich and if he was born before you were, then the ducktail could inherit enough wealth to be practically impervious to public opinion. This has happened in New York City. A man who could never be elected city comptroller is running for president.

The dreamers in the Republican Party imagine that success will steady him and he will accept wise counsel and come into the gravitational field of reality; but it isn’t happening. The Orlando tweets show it: The man does not have a heart. How, in a few weeks, should Mr. Ryan and Mr. McConnell teach him basic humanity? The bigot and braggart they see today is the same man that New Yorkers have been observing for 40 years. A man obsessed with marble walls and gold-plated doorknobs, who has the sensibility of a giant sea tortoise.

His response to the Orlando tragedy is one more clue that this election is different from any other. If Mitt Romney or John McCain had been elected president, you might be disappointed but you wouldn’t fear for the fate of the Republic. This time, the Republican Party is nominating a man who resides in the dark depths. He is a thug and he doesn’t bother to hide it. The only greatness he knows about is himself.

So the country is put to a historic test. If the man is not defeated, then we are not the country we imagine we are. All of the trillions spent on education was a waste. The churches should close up shop. The nation that elects this man president is not a civilized society. The gentleman is not airing out his fingernail polish, he is not showing off his wedding ring; he is making an obscene gesture. Ignore it at your peril.

Donald Trump’s fans love his gimmick, comic routine, style of performance, etc., but there’s no method to his madness.

Traditionally, Republican Party politicians have tried to shy away from saying overtly racist things precisely because racism is not a winning general election platform. At times it’s possible to thread the needle between what the base wants to hear and what the general public wants to hear with “dog whistle” messages.

What Trump found was that a plain old whistle (not a “dog whistle”) was louder and more effective at reaching its intended audience of cranky older white people. The problem is that humans (not just Republicans) can hear it too, and there aren't enough cranky older white people to win a general election.

An editorial by a Republican who hates Hillary and yet he won't vote, as mentioned in one of his previous editorials because he has his public reputation to protect, for Trump. I believe Krauthammer will vote for Trump on his secret ballot, since that secret can't change his public reputation, but I will never know for sure, which is Krauthammer's advantage in his public life. Unlike Krauthammer, I don't play games of saying one thing publicly and doing in secret something else:

Trump won’t be running as anyone but himself

Charles Krauthammer says while some hoped he’d turn ‘presidential,’ the candidate is staying on the path that helped him clinch the GOP nod.
www.nationalreview.com/article/436717/donald-trump-wont-get-presidenti
al

When in his 1964 GOP acceptance speech Barry Goldwater declared that “extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice,” a reporter sitting near journalist/historian Theodore White famously exclaimed: “My God, he’s going to run as Barry Goldwater!”

Six weeks into Donald Trump’s general election campaign, Republicans are discovering that he indeed intends to run as Donald Trump. He has boasted that he could turn “presidential” — respectful, respectable, reticent, reserved bordering on boring — at will. Apparently, he can’t.

GOP leaders who fell in line behind Trump after he clinched the nomination expected, or at least hoped, that he would prove malleable, willing to adjust his more extreme positions and tactics to suit a broader electorate.

Two problems. First, impulse control: Trump says what he actually feels, whatever comes into his head at any moment. Second, a certain logic: Trump won the primaries Sinatra-style, his way —against the odds, the experts and the conventional rules. So why change now? “You win the pennant,” Trump explained, “and now you’re in the World Series — you gonna change?”

Hence his response to the Orlando terror attack. Events like these generally benefit the challenger politically because any misfortune that befalls the nation gets attributed, fairly or not, directly or indirectly, to the incumbent party (e.g., the 2008 financial collapse). And Hillary Clinton is running as the quasi-incumbent.

The textbook response for the challenger, therefore, is to offer sympathy, give a general statement or two about the failure of the incumbent’s national security policy, then step back to let the resulting national fear and loathing, amplified by the media, take effect.

Instead, Trump made himself the (political) story. First, he offered himself unseemly congratulations for his prescience about terrorism. (He’d predicted more would be coming. What a visionary.) Then he went beyond blaming the president for lack of will or wisdom in fighting terrorism, and darkly implied presidential sympathy for the enemy. “There’s something going on,” he charged. He then reiterated his ban on Muslim immigration.

Why? Because that’s what Trump does. And because it worked before. It was after last December’s San Bernardino massacre that Trump first called for a Muslim ban. It earned him lots of opprobrium from GOP leaders and lots of support from GOP voters. He shot up in the polls, never to descend until he clinched. So why not do it again?

Because the general election is a different game. Trump assumes that the Republican electorate is representative of the national electorate. It’s not. Take the Muslim ban. Sixty-eight percent of GOP voters support it. Only 38 percent of Democrats do. And there are approximately 7 million more Democrats in the country. (Independents are split 51-40 in favor.)

The other major example of doing what’s always worked is the ad hominem attack on big-dog opponents. It worked in the primaries. Trump went after one leading challenger after another, knocking them out sequentially.

Hillary Clinton is a lousy campaigner, but her machine is infinitely larger and more skilled than any of Trump’s 16 GOP competitors. More riskily, Trump is now going toe-to-toe with a sitting president.

Barack Obama is no Jeb Bush. He’s not low energy. He’s a skilled campaigner who clearly despises Trump and relishes the fight. And he carries the inestimable advantage of the gravitas automatically conferred by seven and a half years of incumbency. Moreover, he now enjoys an unusually high approval rating of around 53 percent. Trump’s latest favorability is 29 percent, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.

It’s no accident that Trump’s poll numbers are sliding. A month ago, when crowned as presumptive nominee, he jumped into a virtual tie with Clinton. The polls now have him losing by an average of six points, with some showing a nine-and 12-point deficit (Reuters/Ipsos and Bloomberg).

This may turn out to be temporary, but it is a clear reflection of Trump’s disastrous general election kickoff.

His two-week expedition into racism in attacking the Indiana-born “Mexican” judge. His dabbling in conspiracy, from Ted Cruz’s father’s supposed involvement in the Kennedy assassination to Vince Foster’s (“very fishy”) suicide. All of which suggests, and cements, the image of a man who shoots from the hip and is prone to both wild theories and extreme policies.

Reagan biographer Lou Cannon thinks that the Goldwater anecdote is apocryphal. How could anyone (even a journalist) have thought that Goldwater, who later admitted he always knew he would lose, was going to run as anything but his vintage, hard-core self ?

Same for Trump. Give him points for authenticity. Take away for electability.

That sounds like a good theory to explain Trump’s campaign. He doesn’t seem serious about winning. He would love to win, but he is not campaigning in a way that would make winning a near certainty. He is obviously not afraid to lose.

Maybe because being President is not his plan.

I read that Trump is not doing much fund-raising, only having $1.3 million at the end of May. And Trump is not studying Republican Party, only correcting his biggest errors after the rest of his party loudly complains. Trump has thrown GOP messaging into chaos. He’s been trying to act like an orthodox NRA conservative on guns, but he doesn’t really understand this simple issue and he doesn’t care enough about winning to study what he should say on this issue or any other. His instinct was to say that Orlando showed the country would have been better off if more Pulse clubgoers had been packing heat, a position so absurd that even the NRA — which does not condone gunplay under the influence of alcohol — condemned.

Now Trump is backtracking, trying to say that he didn’t say what he clearly did say about wishing random clubgoers had opened fire in a crowded room after knocking back a few drinks.

two short examples from the article:

TRUMP: "We are the highest-taxed nation in the world."

THE FACTS: Closer to the opposite is true.

The U.S. tax burden is actually one of the lowest among the 34 developed and large emerging-market economies that make up the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Taxes made up 26 percent of the total U.S. economy in 2014, according to the OECD. That's far below Sweden's tax burden of 42.7 percent, Britain's 32.6 percent or Germany's 36.1 percent. Only three OECD members had a lower figure: Chile, South Korea and Mexico.
___
TRUMP: "We will repeal and replace job-killing Obamacare. It is a total disaster."

THE FACTS: Job growth has been solid by historical standards since Obama's health care overhaul was signed into law in March 2010. Since then, employers have added nearly 14 million jobs and businesses have been on the longest hiring streak in the post-World War II era. And 2014 and 2015 were the two best years of private-sector hiring since the late 1990s. The unemployment rate, meanwhile, has fallen to 4.7 percent, an 8 ½ year low, from 9.9 percent when the law was passed.

"Address your questions to Trump."

So, you bailed on supporting, or even discussing, your own assertion that truth has never worked in all of recorded human history.

Going back and recapping, you claimed that your comics were TRUE. I pointed out that Trump never actually said the things they claimed he said. (And, fwiw, I think Tina Fey's lampooning of Palin was brilliant - and Tina Fey didn't even need to claim that Palin ACTUALLY said she could see Russia from her house, in order to get her point across.) I proposed that you didn't need to invent lies and then try to claim they were true in order to lodge a criticism, you could simply state the truth. IN DEFENSE OF THE LIES YOU POSTED AND YOUR CLAIM THEY WERE TRUE, you made a general statement that truth has never worked as a criticism in all of recorded human history. (And what a ridiculous overblown piece of bullshit THAT was!) And since then you've failed to support of even discuss your assertion, preferring to derail the focus from your argument.

So noted.

Deceptive Tactics: A Look Inside the Trump Institute
www.nytimes.com/2016/06/30/us/politics/donald-trump-institute-plagiari
sm.html?_r=0

As with Trump University, the Trump Institute promised falsely that its teachers would be handpicked by Mr. Trump. Mr. Trump did little, interviews show, besides appear in an infomercial — one that promised customers access to his vast accumulated knowledge. “I put all of my concepts that have worked so well for me, new and old, into our seminar,” he said in the 2005 video, adding, “I’m teaching what I’ve learned.”

Reality fell far short. In fact...extensive portions of the materials that students received after forking over their seminar fees, supposedly containing Mr. Trump’s special wisdom had been plagiarized from an obscure real estate manual published a decade earlier.

Together, the exaggerated claims about his own role, the checkered pasts of the people with whom he went into business and the theft of intellectual property at the venture’s heart all illustrate the fiction underpinning so many of Mr. Trump’s licensing businesses: Putting his name on products and services — and collecting fees — was often where his actual involvement began and ended.

....Asked about the plagiarism, which was discovered by the Democratic “super PAC” American Bridge, the editor of the Trump Institute publication, Susan G. Parker, denied responsibility....Ms. Parker, a lawyer and legal writer in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., said that far from being handpicked by Mr. Trump, she had been hired to write the book after responding to a Craigslist ad. She said she never spoke to Mr. Trump, let alone received guidance from him on what to write. She said she drew on her own knowledge of real estate and a speed-reading of Mr. Trump’s books.

In a nutshell, Trump sought out a couple of late-night hustlers who had already been in trouble with the law, taped an infomercial for them, and then pocketed the licensing fee. (They were the "best in the business," said the Trump executive who brokered the deal.) Later, he opened up Trump University. He had learned all he needed and was ready to start pushing the hard-sell conference business on his own.

And whether you do that in the news, in discussion, in debate or in opinion, when you distort the facts, you've changed the nature of your communication into propaganda. But WE don't have any of THAT in the US, do we?!

Here's what the world thinks of Donald Trump: Trump does poorly pretty much everywhere. His top ratings come from China, where authoritarian bullies are taken for granted, and Italy, which probably figures Trump looks positively presidential compared to Silvio Berlusconi.

I've gotten to the point where I'm just plain ornery and oppositional. The more the establishment DNC, RNC, and media hate Trump, the more I want to vote for him. "More of the same" has gotten us all to an entirely untenable point socially, economically, environmentally, militarily, and financially. We've been slow-walked to the brink of a cliff. One more step, and who the fuck cares what comes after that?

TPTB have FUBARed (fucked up beyond all recognition) the situation so badly, there is no point in voting for an establishment candidate of any sort. Short of literally lining the 0.01% ... and their ass-licking political hacks ... up against a wall, voting for Trump is the next best thing.

The Dems made a point of burying Sanders, and he was the one candidate who might have made a real difference without pulling down this whole temple of moneychangers. Now its time for the Dems - and the Repubs- to reap what they've sowed. Fuck 'em all.

--------------
I'll tell you what I DON'T like about Trump: I think that he has never confronted either the international banking cartel, nor the CIA-State Dept multi-headed hydra, nor the military-industrial complex. The last person to confront them was JFK (BTW, ALL immigration was illegal under JFK) and look what happened to him.

Obama had been President for only months before receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Sweden still trusts Obama more than any other country. I wonder how Norway feels about Obama?

While looking for Norway, I did find this nugget of wisdom:

"many around the world also associate negative characteristics with the American people. Half or more in 10 countries think Americans are arrogant and many say they are greedy. Interestingly, most in the U.S. say Americans are arrogant (55%) and greedy (57%)."

I'm feeling some doubt that making the worst person President is the best strategy. But I could be wrong.

Donald Trump apparently had a special console in his bedroom at Mar-a-Lago so he could listen in on staff phone calls.

Trump has backed the NSA’s bulk collection of metadata, telling conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt that “I tend to err on the side of security.” Trump added, “I assume when I pick up my telephone people are listening to my conversations anyway, if you want to know the truth.”

Donald Trump had a telephone console installed in his bedroom that acted like a switchboard, connecting to every phone extension on the estate, according to six former workers. Several of them said he used that console to eavesdrop on calls involving staff.

BuzzFeed News spoke with six former employees familiar with the phone system at the estate.

Four of them — speaking on condition of anonymity because they signed nondisclosure agreements — said that Trump listened in on phone calls at the club during the mid-2000s. They did not know if he eavesdropped more recently.

They said he listened in on calls between club employees or, in some cases, between staff and guests. None of them knew of Trump eavesdropping on guests or members talking on private calls with people who were not employees of Mar-a-Lago. They also said that Trump could eavesdrop only on calls made on the club’s landlines and not on calls made from guests’ cell phones.

Each of these four sources said they personally saw the telephone console, which some referred to as a switchboard, in Trump’s bedroom.

Two other sources — the tycoon’s former butler and Mar-a-Lago’s former security director — said the console in Trump’s private apartment merely made it easier for Trump to call other rooms in the estate. They said their former boss either did not or would not listen in on calls. They both support Trump for president.

Trump’s spokeswoman Hope Hicks responded to written questions with one sentence: “This is totally and completely untrue.”

It’s been a full year since Donald Trump announced his extremely normal candidacy. He’s said and done so many extremely normal things since then, it’s hard to keep track of them all — so I thought it might be a good moment for a brief look back at the sheer normality of it all. Obviously I’m only scratching the surface, though — sad!

Donald Trump compared to Julius Caesar, from Democracy — Too Much of a Good Thing?

Romans did become more permissive about everything else in life, with extravagant parties and luxury goods that would not have been permitted in earlier days becoming the norm among the elite. The Romans conquered more and more territory, acquired more and more slaves, had wilder and wilder parties, and conducted more and more lavish campaigns to win high office, a position from which they could grant themselves and their friends favors. The poor, of course, got poorer, with increasing numbers of the middle-class slipping into poverty, but with a few notable exceptions, the rich couldn’t have cared less.

Then one day a brash individual came along, a man of the elite but with the common touch. That man was Gaius Julius Caesar. Caesar was a fairly flamboyant character. One famous anecdote tells of an incident in which a youthful Caesar was kidnapped by pirates. He convinced the pirates to more than double his ransom, while simultaneously assuring them that he would kill them all as soon as they released him, a promise he kept. His three consecutive wives also didn’t stop him from having a robust extramarital love life. And to cut a long story short, he and his heir Octavian put an end to the Republic.

Caesar may have been a significantly less tawdry and therefore somewhat more palatable version of Trump, but the essence of what they stood for and the context isn’t all that different. They both shook up the elites of their day by appealing directly to the common person in a pact that understood that power for one would entail material improvement for the other. Just to be clear, this pact is no more democracy than holding elections is, because it entails neither political equality nor widespread participation. It is merely a nondemocratic reaction to a preexisting system of non-democracy. But it can deliver power for some. Caesar and Trump’s supporters have reacted to them in much the same way. For most people, Donald Trump can screw as many supermodels as he wants, as long as he gets them a manufacturing job back, just like Julius Caesar could loll around with Cleopatra as long as he kept up the bread and games.

as being "wanting to fuck everybody else"?

I'm not trying to fuck everybody else, I'M TRYING TO WARN YOU: DOOD, we are literally on the brink of several disasters:

The hedge fund debt (brought to you by TPTB) is "only" six times the world GDP.
For the first time EVER, the jet streams have crossed the equator.

It may not happen tomorrow, but it is surely coming, and you're going to be far more affected than I am, because, yanno, I'm going to be dead. Clinging to the shoe soles of the power group who brought us to this catastrophe is no way to survive. If, in the future, you should be cursing your miserable life as an overheated hungry member of the undifferentiated global poor please don't blame me as that previous generation which brought you to that sorry state. I have done what I can against it, and I'm still trying to avoid it in the future.

And now people are comparing Trump to ... Julius Caesar? What, wasn't Hitler and the devil extreme enough? I mean, don't you think this is all overblown?

Trump is not a nice guy but his detractors - including Hillary- are at least as bad, if not worse. All you have to do is look at Hillary's record of killing people and destabilizing nations to figure out that she's a mass murderer. I know that you believe - or you would like to believe- that Hillary is a basically decent person and that she represents a reasonable alternative, but she isn't and she doesn't. She's a power-hungry, vindictive, warmongering neocon who is beholden to international banks and Zionists. So tell me- how many people has Trump had killed lately?

The President does not have the power to change the nation legally (although Bush and Obama did a fine job shredding our Constitutional rights illegally). The ONLY POWER that the President has is over foreign policy, Congress will literally let him do nothing else. In fact, Trump as President might actually cause Congress to unify- wouldn't THAT be a kick! I'm hoping for a stalemate.

You claim Hillary is a mass murderer. That is like claiming Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State for Bush, is a mass murderer. All the blame for any murdering the USA did is Obama’s and Bush’s and their military and their Secretaries of Defense. The blame is not Hillary’s or Condi’s. Those two women didn’t give any kill orders and didn’t pull any triggers. It was the men who did the killing and ordering the kills.

And as for Trump never killing in your opinion, he said: 'I could shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters.' He is so supremely confident that he believes he could commit murder and maintain his lead over his opponents.
