Beware the Hillary Clinton-Loathing, Donald Trump-Loving Useful Idiots of the Left

In this weirdest year, there may be no weirder phenomenon than the rise of the progressive Donald Trump supporter.

There exist two broad species of this political genus. First are the radical instrumentalists who see the Republican nominee as a noxious but necessary way station on the road to socialist revolution. Two months ago in this space, a writer named Christopher Ketcham made the “left-contrarian arsonist” case for Trump, arguing that, “What’s needed now in American politics is consternation, confusion, dissension, disorder, chaos—and crisis, with possible resolution—and a Trump presidency is the best chance for this true progress.” While acknowledging Trump as “fascistic,” Salon’s Walter Bragman urged his fellow lefties to at least acknowledge that “he would shake the current system to its core.” In March, actress Susan Sarandon explained to MSNBC’s Chris Hayes her hesitancy to support Hillary Clinton in the general election because “Some people feel that Donald Trump will bring the revolution immediately if he gets in.”

With their purposeful enablement of right-wing populist extremism over center-left incrementalism, America’s latter-day revolutionaries are behaving like Weimar-era German communists, who, on Joseph Stalin’s orders, attacked Social Democrats as “social fascists” rather than battle Nazi brown-shirts. Clearing the way for an actual fascist to take power would “heighten the contradictions of capitalism,” a dialectical Leninist concept holding that conditions must deteriorate drastically in order to wake the proletariat from its slumber.

Today in America, the stakes may not be as great as they were 80 years ago, but the political strategy is similarly irresponsible. Exultant in their moral narcissism, these lefties for Trump display no concern whatsoever for the consequences of their juvenile behavior. It shouldn’t surprise us that the vast majority of them are white and upper middle class, precisely the sort of people most insulated from the ravages of a potential Trump regime.

But it is the second group of progressive Trump fans, subtler in their sympathies, who warrant the most concern. These are the so-called anti-imperialists who harbor deep revulsion at the idea of American power being used for good in the world. America, they believe, is more often than not a source of evil and disorder—a jaundiced view of our global role that they share with the Republican nominee. Unlike the aforementioned wannabe revolutionaries, most of these progressives haven’t endorsed Trump. But they nonetheless embrace the radical departure in American foreign policy that his presidency promises.

You could send them direct messages inviting them to come here and comment. They could either deny or confirm the similarities between themselves and Left Loving Trumpists. Rightwing Trumpists makes sense. Leftwing Trumpists are hopelessly impractical. Tomorrow they may get a President Trump, but I don't think they will like him any better than the people voting in 2000 for Ralph Nader liked George Bush. If Trump was an eggroll he would be Bush in a Nader wrapper. Bite into the Trump eggroll and you will want to spit him out.

They know what they're voting for. They know Trump's tax plan slashes taxes for the rich. They know Trump disowns climate science, wants to revive coal and end government support for renewable energy. They know he wants to carpet bomb the Middle East, bring back torture, "take out terrorists' families", etc, etc. They support Trump despite all of his grievous personal and policy faults, because they're giddy for a Putin-friendly foreign policy. And if evil-capitalist-America burns, they'll toast marshmallows.

In the 80's it was the Reagan Democrats that gave him his landslide victories.

Now 36 years later, this election between two hyper-polarizing and highly unpopular candidates has created a swirling vortex of supernatural forces.

Behold! :

The Clinton Republicans - consisting of desperate-to-keep-power establishment GOP politicians, William F. Buckley conservative purists, and ordinary traditional Republicans afraid of and/or repulsed by Trump.

Behold! :

The Trump Democrats - consisting of scorned and unwavering Bernie Sanders loyalists, disillusioned and unemployed workers, and ordinary traditional Democrats suffering from acute Clinton fatigue after decades of scandals.

As Lenny said to Guy in 'That Thing You Do' .. "How Did We Get Here?"

To recap:

1) Trump built his early political notoriety via “birtherism,” explicitly working to undermine the legitimacy of our elected President.

2) He has continually vilified immigrants and foreigners generally, promoting an us-against-them mentality between people of different races and ethnicities.

3) He has pledged to violate the Constitutional principle of freedom of religion, from banning Muslims from entering the country to tracking ones that are here.

4) His campaign, and the Republican party more generally, has openly engaged in suppressing the vote from groups unlikely to support him. 14) A number of Trump supporters have spoken of the prospect of violent resistance if Clinton is elected. www.nytimes.com/2016/10/28/us/politics/donald-trump-voters.html

This is not a list of “why Donald Trump is a bad person who is disastrously unqualified for the Presidency”; that would be much longer. Rather, I wanted to highlight features of the campaign that are specifically attacks on (small-“d”) democratic norms and values. The assumptions, often unspoken, by which legitimate political opponents have generally agreed to operate by over the course of the last two centuries and more.

Democracy is a curious and fragile thing. It’s not just “majority rules”; crucial to the project are the ideas that (1) minority rights are still respected, and (2) in return, losing minorities respect electoral outcomes. It’s the second of these that is under siege at the moment. Since the time of the Federalist Papers, it’s been understood that democracy is an attempt to provide common self-rule for people who don’t agree on everything, but who at least share the common values of democracy itself. Having strong, even extremely passionate, political disagreements is inevitable in a democratic system. The question is whether we cast those with whom we disagree as enemies, traitors, and cheaters who must be opposed in every measure at every turn; or as partners in a grand project with whom we can fiercely disagree and yet still work with.

Would you respect a fraudulent election? Should anyone?

We (the USA State Department and its liberaloid-neocon drones) spend a great deal of time whining and kvetching about unfair elections abroad, but never look at home. And yet statistics - such as the discrepancy between exit polls and final tally, or between final tally outcome with audit trail versus final tally result without one, indicate significant election fraud by BOTH parties.

If we want to clean up the vote COUNTING, we should go to provable, auditable, unhackable technologies - such as hand-marked and hand-counted ballots.... not voting machines that are not only demonstrably open to hacking, but are also unauditable and which don't even record the actual vote tally, only a percentage.

I REVIEW DATA FOR A LIVING. I always have to think about how it was generated, whether there is a clear, demonstrable line from the standards and instruments, from the sample chain of custody to the final report. I have to look for errors that most people haven't even THOUGHT OF, and novel ways to inspect the data. We are always being challenged by companies which have good data on their side too. Ultimately, if our data and theirs disagree, we have to figure out who was wrong and why.

That's what we do for individual samples. I see no such care being taken with something even more important, which is the vote. NOBODY could testify in court that the way the vote conducted was fair, although the various State Secretaries should all be put on the witness stand and grilled, with real consequences facing them for not doing their job.

I can't imagine how it could be left so scrambled, except on purpose.

It would behoove you all to think about what a provably fair election would look like, investigate what we have, and then wonder why WE don't have something better.

I love America. Which is why I don't love being an Imperial Power. It has twisted and corrupted us (i.e. "you") into not even seeing what's right in front of you face.

America was not founded to be an Empire (And if you weren't Canadian and had read something of the FF you'd know that). Despite what THUGR seems to believe, it was not founded to be capitalist ... nothing about that in the Constitution either, I guarantee it! And despite what SECOND and THUGR think, corruption is not the American way either. Neither are "open borders".

And no, it is NOT a "loaded question". Apparently you don't know what a "loaded question" is. HERE is a loaded question: Why did the United States destroy six nations in the past 30 years?

Or, to phrase it the way YOU did Was Obama the butcher of the Mideast? Or was that Hillary?

I simply asked for a half-dozen examples of where our Imperial Military was used "for good" in the past 30 years. The fact that you can't come up with one example [but resort to endless snark] speaks for itself. But maybe your friends here will throw you a lifeline.

I think this would be a good place to ask the questions that Ive asked probably a dozen times by now, but which nobody has yet had the balls to answer:

WHAT ARE AMERICA'S INTERESTS? and
HOW DOES RUSSIA THREATEN THEM?

Those are not "loaded questions". The fact that none of you so-called "patriots" can seem to engage in those questions seems to indicate that you can't even engage in the definition of "America". It's like "America" has no meaning for you: you're so busy worrying about poor immigrants from elsewhere (who are escaping the clusterfucks that we created) and the rights of the poor freedom-loving Syrians/Libyans/Iraqis/Ukies/Afghanis/fillintheblanks everywhere, the poor queers, the poor women, the poor peopleofcolor, the poor precious and special millenial snowflakes who are micro-offended over micro-invalidations that it's impossible [for you] to even imagine an identity that covers every American citizen without excluding anyone.

So let's try that again

WHAT ARE AMERICA'S INTERESTS? and
HOW DOES RUSSIA THREATEN THEM?

Don't look now SIG but your ignorance is showing again. If you weren't a Russian Troll you would understand it was the American Military, that kept Russia in check and led to the collapse of the Soviet Union. That restored sovereignty to many enslaved ( annexed ) countries. It also helped keep the Germans from, if not conquering the world, conquering and keeping Europe ( WW1 and WW2 ). That's just a couple. It stopped the genocide of Muslims in Serbia, Bosnian to add another.

It's past and present that make up the facts SIG. Not your warping of the truth, attempted elimination or narrowing of the research material available, lack of understanding of the complexities of the world, or populist type thinking that gets to the truth.

No SIG, if you wish to talk about the contributions that America and it's military parous has brought to the world, you need to look at it in it's totality.

Or ask Russia's neighbors if they're grateful for America's military.

That's a list of what SIG? Your claim is that they are all examples of what? Printing a list like that with none of it put into context is just subjective bullshit. We call you on this all the time but you never learn. And all you do is confirm my accretion that you despise America and Americans.

Well, to bad comrade

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

So in addition to discussing the benefits and costs (to the foreign nations) of each individual USA Imperial Military Intervention throughout history and around the world, maybe you should start with something simple:

WHAT ARE AMERICA'S INTERESTS?

Why did we intervene in all of those foreign nations?

Here's a thought: YOU were the one who said we should consider the effect or our military interventions in its "totality". I provided a historically-verifiable list of those interventions, which (BTW) doesn't even count the CIA's activities.
So, shall we start considering that list?

You're like a dog chasing its tail. You are always like a dog chasing it's tail. Which I would remind you is attached to the dogs ass. And probably why you, always have your head up your ass.

Go for it.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Well then, you clearly can't support the USA imperial military's benevolence. You and the rest of your liberaloid-neocon friends are, like I said, cowards and moral vacuums. Everything you believe is just so much vaporware, like a nasty fart.
