No. That's not at all what that video says. Not even the title says that.

They're starting the formal impeachment inquiry... the exact same thing they said they were starting weeks ago, which is to say, they are going to have an investigation into Trump because they weren't happy with Mueller's investigation.

This is old news.

This is NOT impeachment.

1KIKI

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

... this is wiki which used to be reliable but is now often censored:

Procedure

At the federal level, the impeachment process is a three-step procedure.

First, the Congress investigates. This investigation typically begins in the House Judiciary Committee, but may begin elsewhere. For example, the Nixon impeachment inquiry began in the Senate Judiciary Committee. The facts that led to impeachment of Bill Clinton were first discovered in the course of an investigation by Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr.
Second, the House of Representatives must pass, by a simple majority of those present and voting, articles of impeachment, which constitute the formal allegation or allegations. Upon passage, the defendant has been "impeached".
Third, the Senate tries the accused. In the case of the impeachment of a president, the Chief Justice of the United States presides over the proceedings. For the impeachment of any other official, the Constitution is silent on who shall preside, suggesting that this role falls to the Senate's usual presiding officer, the President of the Senate who is also the Vice President of the United States. Conviction in the Senate requires a two-thirds vote. The result of conviction is removal from office.

Rules

A number of rules have been adopted by the House and Senate, and are honored by tradition.

Jefferson's Manual, which is integral to the Rules of the House of Representatives,[16] states that impeachment is set in motion by charges made on the floor, charges proferred by a memorial, a member's resolution referred to a committee, a message from the president, or from facts developed and reported by an investigating committee of the House. It further states that a proposition to impeach is a question of high privilege in the House and at once supersedes business otherwise in order under the rules governing the order of business.

The House Practice: A Guide to the Rules, Precedents and Procedures of the House[17] is a reference source for information on the rules and selected precedents governing the House procedure, prepared by the House Parliamentarian. The manual has a chapter on the House's rules, procedures, and precedent for impeachment.

In 1974, as part of the preliminary investigation in the Nixon impeachment inquiry, the staff of the Impeachment Inquiry of the House Judiciary Committee prepared a report, Constitutional Grounds for Presidential Impeachment.[6] The primary focus of the Report is the definition of the term "high Crimes and Misdemeanors" and the relationship to criminality, which the Report traces through history from English roots, through the debates at the 1787 Constitutional Convention, and the history of the impeachments before 1974.

The 1974 report has been expanded and revised on several occasions by the Congressional Research Service, and the current version Impeachment and Removal dates from October 2015.[1] While this document is only staff recommendation, as a practical matter, today it is probably the single most influential definition of "high Crimes and Misdemeanors."

The Senate has formal Rules and Procedures of Practice in the Senate When Sitting on Impeachment Trials.[18]

Before the trial starts, we already know how the Senators will vote, don't we? Trump will say he had no intention of committing a wrongful act, and that will be enough cover to allow all the GOP Senators to vote Not Guilty. Trump has got no idea what the charges will be, but he has already got his statement written.

The one thing Trump won't be able to dodge with a statement of "I had no intention to violate the law" will be the bill for his overdue taxes. Whatever that number is, he can't make it go away, but he will try to delay Congress's forensic accountants from discovering what the number is.

The number is 67 Senators to convict Trump. There are only 45 Democratic Senators. You can look it up: www.senate.gov/history/partydiv.htm

Trump will NOT be convicted. The Democrats won't be able to get the 22 more Senators they need to convict. Bernie will vote with the Democrats, maybe also Angus King, the Independent from Maine, but who else? Nobody!

What will really kill Trump is his over-due tax bill. When the bill finally comes in a few years, he will have a stroke and die. This year, or maybe next year, I can look forward to the House of Representative's forensic accountants investigating Trump's tax returns and making Trump miserable and furious. And it should be an excellent lesson to other tax cheating 1 Percenters of America. As a bonus, the resultant increase in taxes collected from the newly compliant tax-cheaters will decrease the budget deficit.

What was the final vote tally in the senate for Nixon's impeachment?

Like T says, you don't know what will happen until you take the next step.

Already, the so-called "transcript" is blowing up in his face. It's more of a farce - even black comedy - it's so bad. "Who the f*ck told him this would be a good idea to release!?!" It's a summary, not a transcript like they want us to believe, and even with that it clearly puts Trump in the cross hairs from his own words. He talks about Biden and his son and Hillary's server being in the Ukraine, and a Ukrainian prosecutor being a "great guy" even though many US intel consider him a Putin stooge and have tried to get rid of him.

It's early, but it's looking more and more like he's played the same (lying sack of sh*t) gambit one too many times.

You're like a broken record. I don't care what the senate republicans do. It appears to me you are like a deer stuck in the headlights. Therefore you would do nothing. This has to happen. If the voters don't like what the republicans do they will take care of business. After that the courts will take over when Trump loses in 2020. This is how it has to go down.

Lets hope the dems get it right. If they do Trumps fucked.

For Nixon there was no vote in the Senate. The deal with Nixon was that the leadership in the Senate told Nixon they were gonna beat him to death for what he had done, but the torture would be stretched over many months. "Did he want to go ahead with a trial by torture?" Nixon was asked. Nixon immediately resigned. The leadership in today's Senate is Mitch McConnell. Trump often acts like he is above the law because McConnell lets him. If McConnell decided to lead Senate Republicans in investigating and curbing Trump’s corruption, abuses of power, and obstruction of justice, Trump’s options would be to reform his behavior or be ejected from office.

Instead, on Tuesday, McConnell signaled that he intends to continue protecting Trump from accountability or sanction.

How many Presidents were removed by the Senate? Zero. How many assassinated? Four. That makes me think Trump has a better chance of being killed in office than being removed by the Senate.

Then there was President Warren G. Harding, who was rumored to have been poisoned by his wife and/or his associates. He was such a huge dirt bag that there is no good reason to think he was not. His wife refused permission for an autopsy. It could happen to Trump.

This is why the modern day Federal Government is deadlocked while the Federal Government in the distant past was not. Nobody today believes there are any time limits on their own lives, unlike Presidents who went to war, such as Kennedy or earlier Presidents who knew in their guts that someday they will die from the misfortune of disease. Today, too many Americans think they have forever to finally make the best possible decision. And thus we live in an Age of Deadlock.

George H W Bush almost died in WWII. He was aware of the shortness of life and the need to compromise to avoid deadlock, while his son, Bush Jr who almost did nothing in the Texas National Guard, could not compromise. That dumbass, much like Trump who completely did nothing, thinks life goes on and on and on.

Yanno what?

Talk to the Democrats who had corpse Ted Kennedy falling off of stages from his dementia, or are keeping Ginsberg on life support in hopes that they can get Trump out of office before she croaks. While you're at it, maybe mention to them that pitting somebody who's already regressing to the mental state of a child like Joe Biden in a debate against Trump is probably not a good idea either.

6ixStringJack, I can see WHY you are not doing well in this world: You are stupid. The following editorial was written assuming Americans are smart. They aren't, which means the predictions in the editorial will not come to pass:

Trump’s Death by Self-Regard (By the way, stupid 6ixStringJack, the editorial is NOT calling for Trump's death)

https://prospect.org/blogs/tap/trumps-death-by-self-regard/

The just-released transcript of Trump’s call with Ukraine’s president Zelensky is nothing short of staggering.

Trump’s self-regard, swagger, and extreme narcissism are all on display. You get the sense that he is so eager to strut his stuff and have the public see it, that it overwhelms any sense on his part that this particular strut could be the stuff of impeachment.

And of course, the transcript can’t be read in isolation. Just days before, as Trump now admits, he withheld $400 million in military aid to Ukraine. There would have been no reason to do this except as leverage.

So now we have a smoking gun, every bit as damaging and self-inflicted as the Nixon tapes.

And irony of ironies, we have Trump up against another president who began as a TV entertainer. Except that Zelensky, who once played a president on Ukrainian TV, seems to have navigated the transition to actual president a lot better than Trump.

There are also reports that Trump has withdrawn his efforts to prevent the whistle-blower from testifying to Congress because of pressure from Republican legislators. And this is the second game changer. As flat-out illegal behavior is documented, expect more Republicans to defect.

As one who has been advocating impeachment for months, I’m always amazed at the tendency of pundits to make straight-line extrapolations from the current state of public and elite opinion. But public opinion is dynamic.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has taken a lot of grief from progressives for waiting so long. As things turned out, she played it exactly right. She waited until she had a transgression that the public could easily grasp, until she had the overwhelming majority of the Democratic Caucus with her, and then she went all in. (Sorry, but the public will grasp nothing.)

Whistle-Blower Is Said to Allege Concerns About White House Handling of Ukraine Call

WASHINGTON — The intelligence officer who filed a whistle-blower complaint about President Trump’s interactions with the leader of Ukraine raised alarms not only about what the two men said in a phone call, but also about how the White House handled records of the conversation, according to two people briefed on the complaint.

The whistle-blower, moreover, identified multiple White House officials as witnesses to potential presidential misconduct who could corroborate the complaint, the people said — adding that the inspector general for the intelligence community, Michael Atkinson, interviewed witnesses.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I listen to three newscasts every day: NBC, ABC, and PBS. I usually listen to ABC on the same day, because it's the least credible, but it let's me know what I'm supposed to be hyperventilating about.

I listen to NBC about a week or more late, because it refreshes my memory about how the stories originated, in the light of subsequent 'news'. It let's me know how the story has drifted over time, because they assume we're not actually tracking the reporting and will nod our assent at whatever truthiness they blather at us in the moment.

And I listen to PBS much, much later, because they're very 'narrative' heavy. It gives me an idea of what I'm supposed to be thinking.

Oddly enough, I JUST listened to the initial NBC reports when the 'telephone conversation' story first broke - a week ago. At the time no one could confirm that it involved Trump, or knew the identity of the foreign person. Nevertheless, the claim of the whistleblower - AS REPORTED - was that THERE WERE "PROMISES MADE", and fact of those "PROMISES MADE" were the source of all the supposed national security concern.

That claim of "PROMISES MADE" has completely disappeared from the 'news'.

The insane never-Trumpers will be driven even more insane in the wash/rinse/spin/repeat/ cycle they mistake for reality.

6ixStringJack, you are as dumb as Trump, but twice as articulate. Too bad being able to talk well won't get you anywhere, except in a sales job or in politics, none of which have you taken up as way to earn your living. Remember, 6ix, neither being stupid nor having forgotten your education is a barrier to becoming a salesman in America! Just look how far Trump has gone, using only his mouth. Here is Trump's mouth running without his brain engaged:

Donald Trump pressed Ukraine’s new president, Volodymyr Zelensky, to help legitimize conspiracy theories about his Democratic rivals during a private telephone conversation in July, and again at a public meeting at the United Nations on Wednesday.

White House notes on the July call, released before the two presidents met in New York, showed that Trump urged his Ukrainian counterpart to investigate false claims about the theft of emails from the Democratic National Committee’s servers in 2016 and about former Vice President Joe Biden’s role in getting Ukraine’s chief prosecutor fired the same year.

The summary of the call shows that when Zelensky said that his country wanted to buy Javelin antitank missiles from the United States — using millions of dollars in American military aid the White House was blocking at the time — Trump responded by saying, “I would like you to do us a favor though.” The American president then presented shards of a conspiracy theory he’s invoked before: that the DNC computers were not hacked by Russian intelligence agents, as Special Counsel Robert Mueller concluded, rather, Democrats had framed Russia for the crime, with the help of a Ukrainian-owned cybersecurity firm, CrowdStrike.

A publicly-traded company headquartered in California, CrowdStrike has nothing to do with Ukraine, except in conspiracyland, which pretends that CrowdStrike co-founder Dmitri Alperovitch is Ukrainian, and that he framed Russia for election interference both on the DNC’s orders and to punish Putin for invading Ukraine.

Trump's theory “is absurd for many reasons,” the New York Times cybersecurity reporter Nicole Perlroth observed on Twitter. “The server is not in Ukraine; it’s sitting in the DNC basement. Despite Trump’s repeated claims Democrats withheld the server from the FBI, CrowdStrike and the DNC actually gave all their forensic evidence to the FBI.”

Trump's lawyers have the perfect defense against impeachment: Not Guilty by reason of Stupidity. I'm pretty sure all GOP Senators will buy that defense, while no Democratic Senators will. The more Trump says, the more convincing the Stupidity Defense is. And being stupid is not a high crime and misdemeanor.

When the Ukrainian President returns to acting in comedy, he will have some very funny stories to tell on TV about the American President. Unlike in Ukraine, America's Trump lovers can't understand the practical joke Trump has played on them. No matter how many times the Democrats explain it to them, or draw them a picture, they don't get it, but the Ukrainians do.

There is a funny picture on the front page of the Houston Chronicle showing the two Presidents (both are actors before becoming Presidents). The expression on the Ukrainian President's face says: "I can't believe the nonsense coming out of Trump's mouth."

Being stupid is not a high crime and misdemeanor, so the Democrats will have very hard time convicting Trump. The 2020 Trump bumper-sticker: "He's stupid. You're stupid. Vote Trump"

Trump says the DNC mail server is in Ukraine, but it never left Washington DC. And he says Crowdstrike is in Ukraine, but it never left California. But yesterday Trump harassed the Ukrainian President about the mail server and Crowdstrike. Trump is too stupid to be convicted for Ukrainegate, but Trump's tax accountants can be charged with tax cheating for their boss. That would drive dumb Trump crazy. He went a little crazy when Michael Cohen, his lawyer, was charged and convicted of tax cheating. As a bonus, attacking Trump's accountants for tax cheating will drive Trump's supporters up a Wall. It won't be a matter of different political opinion; it will be the math of forensic accountants versus Trump's accountants. His accountants, who have to be pretty dumb to work for him, will lose.

KIEV, Ukraine — A former top Ukrainian prosecutor, whose allegations were at the heart of the dirt-digging effort by Rudolph W. Giuliani, said Thursday he believed that Hunter Biden did not run afoul of any laws in Ukraine.

“From the perspective of Ukrainian legislation, he did not violate anything,” former Ukrainian prosecutor general Yuri Lutsenko told The Washington Post in his first interview since the disclosure of a whistleblower complaint alleging pressure by President Trump on Ukraine’s president, Volodymr Zelensky.

Here is another joke from FOX News:

30 Republican senators would privately vote to impeach Trump

Former Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake made a bold claim on Thursday when he said "at least 35" GOP senators would privately vote for President Trump's impeachment.

"I heard someone say if there were a private vote there would be 30 Republican votes. That's not true," Flake said during a Q&A. "There would be at least 35."

"I can tell you this ... one Republican senator told me if it was a secret vote, 30 Republican senators would vote to impeach Trump," longtime GOP political consultant Mike Murphy said. The joke is that in the Senate there is NO secret vote and NO private vote. Voting publicly to remove Trump would end a GOP Senator's career, but Mike Pence's career would begin rocketing into fame. I guess no GOP Senators want to sacrifice themselves for Pence and country.
