Know Thy Trump on March 21 said, “Believe me!” Fact checkers correct him when he’s “off by one hundredth of a percent.” He added, “I end up getting Pinocchios!” This is from the guy who repeatedly said the real unemployment rate was 42 percent. Watch Trump on video smoothly deny he is lying: https://t.co/niULexmOBz

I don't know about 40%, but it's sure a lot higher than they say it is. The unemployment numbers only include those "actively looking for work", which means only those filing weekly or bi-weekly unemployment sheets for their checks. I haven't filed a report since the benefits wore off over a year ago, so I am no longer considered "unemployed".

The actual number of unemployed Americans of working age is currently over 40 million. When you subtract senior citizens, everyone under 18 and illegal immigrants from the 350 or so million people living in America, 40 million is a lot higher than whatever single digit number the MSM says unemployment is.

If you were to add to the Real number the "under-employed", I'm pretty sure the number of 40% is pretty accurate.

You really don't want to entertain the idea that Trump is either nuts or a stone cold liar, do you? Either one is definitely bad for you. Neither is bad for me or for Congressmen.

Trump is warning Congressional Republicans: Pass Trumpcare or Lose Your Seats. (Congressmen are not impressed by Trump's nutty threats. They don't think he has the brains or guts to follow through.)

“I’m going to come after you,” Mr. Trump told Representative Mark Meadows, Republican of North Carolina.

Representative Leonard Lance of New Jersey, one of the nearly two dozen Republicans from districts that Mr. Trump lost in 2016, said he was leaning strongly toward a “no” vote. “I campaigned in support of a repeal-and-replace bill that would make health care more affordable and accessible and provide a smooth transition to those who were forced into Obamacare through no fault of their own,” Mr. Lance said. “The bill, as currently drafted, does none of these things.” An unimportant detail to Trump. This is his Trumpcare and he wants it to pass, even if it does not do what he promised. Is he nuts? Or is he a liar? Both?

Trump may end up destroying people, not because he is powerful, smart or brave, but because he is inane.

I have no stake in anything he does. As you've said before, you stand to gain far more from Trump than I ever would. Your tax savings this year alone will be more money than I've made in the last 9 years.

The problem is I've heard so much crazy shit from the left for so long that Trumps craziness doesn't phase me anymore. Maybe if the loud minority of the Left that is taking over college campuses and the MSM haven't spent every oppourtunity they had the last 8 years trying to make me feel guilty for being a white male, I wouldn't welcome crazy in a different flavor.

As a very loud representative of the new wave Left, I put this all at your feet Second. Whatever the outcome.

You and the Left have now had 4 1/2 months to rebrand the Democratic party and get somebody in a position of power there that might challenge Trump in 2020. You haven't done that at all. It's been 4 1/2 months of liberal bitching and whining and conspiracy theories and doubling down on all of the things that put us in this position in the first place.

Right now, you have nobody. There is not a single Democratic name out there that would stand a chance against Trump in 2020. Why don't you work on that? Promote somebody I can get on board with that actually treats me like a human being and not some caricature of a Nazi, and then we'll talk.

What? You don't need health insurance? I thought you were signed up for Obamacare. Wrong of me? I have heard that millions who are eligible for Obamacare did not sign up for it because of . . . well, who knows what they are thinking? If you and they don't want it, well, Trump won't force you go to a doctor in his Trumpcare or Obama's Obamacare. It is your life, your decision, nobody will stop you in America from making decisions, right or wrong, for yourself.

Why would Democrats bother? We've got 8 years of Republican control ahead of us and I am gleefully looking forward to my Republican tax cuts. Democrats would never give me that money, but Republican think I deserve it and hurray for that! We have seen this 8 year cycle before.

Back when Nixon was President, Democrats ran George McGovern against him. McGovern was a clear alternative to lying Nixon and his Vietnam War. Nixon was reelected by a landslide because Americans wanted 8 years of Republicans. I know that Gerald Ford finished Nixon's 8 years and I suspect that Mike Pence might finish Trump's 8 years, but 8 is what the USA is gonna get, no matter who Democrats run as their George McGovern of 2020.

McGovern was not a joke, either. He was completely sincere & competent and yet he was crushed by the completely insincere, incompetent and phony Nixon. I believe the Nixon campaign argument was: "Why change Dicks in the middle of a screw? Nixon in '72!" If Trump can start a war equivalent to Vietnam, he is certain to be reelected. Vietnam War worked for Nixon's reelection. Trump has already asked for a much bigger budget for the War Department without announcing which country will be the Vietnam he needs for reelection in 2020. Could be Iran or North Korea.

You already know I have Obamacare, unless you don't actually read anything other people post. As I've said before the only reason that I accept it is because I would be charged $695 in taxes for not having healthcare.

As to the rest of what you say, I wonder if you truly believe it. That's just backwards thinking. You democrats have an opportunity the next 4-8 years to become a party that people want to be a part of again instead of maintaining the vile behavior toward anyone with dissenting opinions and general crybabyisms that are carried out on a daily basis for no reason. It's completely counter-productive for all of us.

I'm not a hard line anything. I'm not a mindless Trump sycophant. Come to me with some real answers. Some real solutions. Come to me with some candidates that that lie somewhere in the middle that can make a better future for us.

When you come in here, every single post, and just throw out insults to the President and anybody you don't agree with, all you're doing is speaking to your own echo chamber.

Here is a real solution, but it requires you to be brave and show some guile. You are claiming that you don't need health insurance and you only bought because of taxes. Since you don't need insurance, you think, you could lie on your tax return then there would be no $695 tax. Nobody will audit your return. Nobody will care if you don't have insurance. On your IRS 1040 line #61 Health care: individual responsibility (see instructions) Full-year coverage X. Fake it. Put the "X". The Republicans fixed it so that the IRS doesn't have any way to check your honesty.

What happens if you don't pay the fee and you get caught? The IRS will hold back the amount of the fee from any future tax refunds. There are no liens, levies, or criminal penalties for failing to pay the fee. www.healthcare.gov/fees/fee-for-not-being-covered/

Why would I do any of that?

$695 means a lot to me, and it did when I was making a good buck too. That's how I was able to buy this house with cash when I lost that job.

I've done my own taxes for going on 20 years now and never lied or got audited on them. Taking the Obamacare forced on me means I don't have to pay the $695 tax. I know it's not criminal to get caught lying about that when I make nothing. People would be rioting if it were. But they could take a lean on future taxes, as you mention.

I have zero debt. No mortgage. No car payment. No credit card or school debt. I don't even own a cell phone or have cable TV so I'm not even on the hook for a contract for future services.

Why would I put myself in a position to have an unfair tax debt put on me?

Have you learned nothing from President Trump and his tax returns? Follow his example. And if not him, did you ever watch Firefly? Did you notice that the heroic crew were not truthful around the evil Alliance/Obama administration? Did you ever think that it is right for them to dissimulate? To give you a different perspective on obedience and following rules and truthfully filling out government forms, I have Trump's exclusive interview with Time’s Michael Scherer, published Thursday.

President Donald Trump basically gives three types of explanations for why it’s okay for him to say things that aren’t true. You could learn valuable lessons that would help you in the Real World, away from fireflyfans.net.

1) Trump thinks it’s okay to repeat a false claim as long as he is accurately stating the fact that someone else made the false claim.

2) He thinks it’s okay to say something false as long as it later turns out that something vaguely similar is true.

3) And he appears to think it’s okay to just straight-up lie and then keep lying for no reason.

Here are three quotes on category 1) misstatements, where Trump says he was accurately saying other people said something false, so there’s no reason for him to apologize for spreading misinformation:

“I’m just quoting the newspaper [about Ted Cruz’s father being involved in the JFK assassination], just like I quoted the judge the other day, Judge Napolitano, I quoted Judge Napolitano, just like I quoted Bret Baier, I mean Bret Baier mentioned the word wiretap.”

“Well, I’m not, well, I think, I’m not saying, I’m quoting, Michael, I’m quoting highly respected people and sources from major television networks.”

“Well if you look at the reporter, he wrote the story [about Muslims celebrating 9/11 on rooftops in New Jersey] in the Washington Post.”

You can read more examples at 9 bonkers things Donald Trump said in his new exclusive interview with Time

We've gone over this before. I am often unemployed because I do not submit well to authority.

Money is freedom. When you don't have access to money, the next best thing is not owing any money to anybody else. I may not have much to my name outside of my home, but I am free to do almost anything I want to do, like not work for nearly 2 years. This is a freedom that I do not have if I have debt.

There is NO escaping the IRS if they set their sights on you. As you yourself mentioned on this forum just a few days ago, tax fraud is how they brought down Al Capone himself when all else failed.

I'm not choosing to be truthful on my taxes because I'm an obedient sheep. I am truthful on my taxes because most of the time I don't have to pay very much, and when I did make money I knew all the ways to shield as much as legally possible.

It all boils down to a matter of ROI. What do I have to gain by lying on my taxes here? Absolutely nothing.

What do I have to lose? $695 in personal freedom, which for me these days equates to roughly two months of freedom.

It's a no brainer.

Every time I read the title Is Trump Nuts?, the first thing that pops into my head is - do I care? And the answer always is - No. Not until such time as it looks like he's driving the car into WWIII. And the fact that people are running around trying to whip everyone into a frenzy just makes me tired. We've been there, and done that, many, many, many, many, many times over. I at least have learned to view the propaganda pushers with a large degree of indifference. And just because they've managed to goad people into an unthinking frenzy doesn't mean I need to join them.

Here is a small part of an article that points out a fact that Trump can take political advantage of. The worse he makes this one fact, the better for himself being reelected, but the worse for you.

Out of all rich countries in the world, the USA has the worst distribution of wealth.

A majority of Americans have little or no wealth. Half of all American adults have wealth less than $44,977. If the wealth was spread equally, all American adults would have $344,692 each.

The wealth that there is, is mostly owned by people at the top. The top is Trump, a multi-billionaire, he has bragged. The author of the article also wrote: I grew up in a middle-class family, the first to go to college full-time and the first to earn a Ph.D. The economic policies of the last 40 years have reduced the middle class's security, and this blog is a small contribution to reversing that.

U.S. Has Worst Wealth Inequality of Any Rich Nation, and It's Not Even Close

Let's move now to the inequality data, where I'll present median wealth per adult, mean wealth per adult, and the mean-to-median ratio, a significant indicator of inequality. These data will be sorted by that ratio. The “mean” is the average across all adults. The “median” identifies the single luckiest adult’s wealth that is exactly in the middle of the sample for that country: half of all adults’ wealth is higher, half is lower.

1. United States $ 44,977 $344,692 7.66
2. Denmark $ 52,279 $259,816 4.97

As you can see, the U.S. inequality ratio is more than 50% higher than #2 Denmark and fully three times as high as the median country on the list, France. As the title says, this is not even close.

. . . we are careening towards a retirement crisis as Baby Boomers like myself find their income drop off a cliff in retirement. As I reported in 2013, 49% (!) of all private sector workers have no retirement plan at all, not even a crappy 401(k). 31% have only a 401(k), which shifts all the investment risk on to the individual, rather than pooling that risk as Social Security does. And many people had to borrow against their 401(k) during the Great Recession, including 1/3 of people in their forties. The overall savings shortfall is $6.6 trillion! If Republican leaders finally get their wish to gut Social Security, prepare to see levels of elder poverty unlike anything in generations. It will not be pretty.

This didn't just pop up in the last few months Second.

In the last 8 years alone the re-distribution of wealth via social programs have exploded and the amount of American families that have been put under the federal poverty line has seen massive increases.

This was already starting back with GWB and his massive debts for the wars. (The two biggest things I was vocal against him for, the third being the Patriot Act).

To be fair though, a lot of this lies on Clinton for opening the WTO to china and really getting the ball rolling with globalism. It was temporarily great for our economy and made Bill look really good though.

I agree with pretty much everything you just posted, and that it is a major problem. I just think it's silly to be trying to put any of that on Trump just yet. 16+ years of this crap isn't going to be eclipsed by 3 more months of it except by the most ardent Trump haters looking for anything to post negatively about him. Even more comical to me is that it's coming from somebody in the 1% who's financial advice to me yesterday was to lie on my taxes.

What I'm about to do is not nice, but it is all true and has been going on for more than 8 years. Even Trump should understand it, and especially his Labor Secretary, but neither do. Or maybe they don't want to?

Economists think automation is already responsible for a lot of the job decline. A study by Ball University in 2015 estimated that if US industry were producing in 2010 at the same level of productivity as it did in 2000, the US would have needed 20.9 million manufacturing workers; instead it had only 12.1 million (pdf, p. 4).
http://projects.cberdata.org/reports/MfgReality.pdf

That is 8.8 million jobs lost to increased efficiency, not to foreigners.

Trump has blamed globalization for the loss of American industrial jobs and promised to bring them back by creating incentives for companies to manufacture in the US. Instead, Trump should create incentives for companies to be less efficient. That would create jobs instantaneously. If you ever worked in a factory, you’d know how simple it is to ruin productivity. It takes great care to keep the factory moving smoothly. Stop being careful on the factory floor and start hiring more workers could be Trump’s successful job creation policy.

Trump’s landmark Keystone XL pipeline deal will create 35 long-term American jobs
https://qz.com/941441

Taking it a step further, a 2011 report from Cornell University concluded that the Keystone XL pipeline could actually destroy more jobs than it created. That’s because Midwesterners could wind up paying 10 to 20 cents more per gallon of gasoline if the pipeline diverts crude oil from Midwestern refineries down to those in the Gulf of Mexico region. And it probably will, the researchers write, because oil refined on the Gulf can be sold for a higher price to export markets. That will cost the Midwest up to $2-$4 billion in higher crude prices annually, “escalating for several years,” according to information Cornell received from TransCanada. That would “suppress other spending and will therefore cost jobs,” the Cornell researchers write.

This afternoon, Paul Ryan and the rest of the House leadership is considering pulling the Trumpcare bill rather than suffering through an embarrassing loss, and Ryan has told President Trump he doesn't have the votes to pass it. Trump still wants a vote, though, so he can take down the names of the No voters and swear eternal vengeance on them.

“Burn the boats,” Steve Bannon (in his typical, pugnacious style) advised Trump, according to one official involved. Burning one’s boats is a reference to when military commanders in hostile territories order his or her troops to destroy their own ships, so that they have to win or die trying.

I'd like to have an opinion on automation, but I don't know what to think about it. I will admit that it's far too large an issue for me to wrap my head around.

Even in my very limited lifestyle, a majority of the things I do or don't have to do are thanks to automation. I'm glad that I don't have to raise crops or hunt food or wash my clothes on rocks. Does all that free time make me a better person? Does it make me happier?

PLCs would be a great job for me to get into. I know an intermediate amount about it. If I managed to just get my foot in the door I could probably shine doing it. That would also entail me going to sleep everynight knowing when people get laid off it's because they'd only need one of me for X amount of laborers. I'd also have to realize that it was just a matter of time until I wasn't even needed anymore.

I don't know the answer about this one. I don't know if there is an answer.

That being said, globalization is a real threat at the same time. I lost a great job to it. If they could have given it to robots, they would have. Skilled labor in a 3rd world country is the next best thing.

Automation increases what a worker can do. If a company has 100 workers, and automating some drudgery in the work place enables the company to do twice as much, only a relatively unimaginative company would selection reducing the staff to 50 as the only viable option.

If you can't think of anything else for your workers to do, you probably shouldn't be in business, and with 300,000 corporations competing in America, pretty soon, you probably won't be.

In classical economic theory, automation drives the creation of technology, which is why I'm posting this on the internet instead of writing out a copy to each of you and sending it in the post, or worse yet, walking to each house in person to deliver them over the next year. We exist because of the typewriter, telegraph, and http which handles the typing, the duplication and the distribution processes for us through automation.

Automation is a cornerstone of the science that makes science fiction. Without it, we'd all still be catching fish with spears because the anti-net making lobby would have prevented us from moving on to hut building, wheel making, etc.

In a perfect world you'd be right about all that DT, but it's far from perfect.

As automation improves, it becomes a game of adapt or die. Those companies that don't buy the new technology become more expensive to utilize than those that do and go out of business. The companies aren't automating to save money that can be spent elsewhere. They're doing so to stay alive and hopefully increase the stock prices.

It would be foolish to fight this progress for many reasons. Unless you're insane, most people would never go back to doing things the old fashioned way when they already have tools at their disposal. I can live without a lot, but I can't imagine a life without the internet anymore. Or my power tools...

There is two problems, the way I see it. 1) Although automation creates new jobs, it never creates as many as it replaces... at least on a grand scale. 2) There are simply too many people on the planet. Whether voluntarily or involuntary there is going to be a culling of the herd at some point. Not only are we living so out of balance with nature that we couldn't possibly be sustained at the current growth for long, but with automation at the state it currently is, and is progressing, there simply isn't a need for many of us now.

In the science fiction show The Expanse most Earthers have no jobs, perhaps from automation. (The.Expanse.S02E09.HDTV.x264-SVA[eztv].mkv)

Earthers wanting a useful and purposeful life move to Mars, where there is a world of work to be done making Mars into a second Earth. And wouldn’t you know it, Earth and Mars are hostile toward each other. Martians dislike immigrants because they don’t have enough red dust in their blood.

The combined population of Earth and its colonies stands at 31 billion citizens and there are far more people than available jobs. Anyone without a job lives off of the U.N welfare system known as Basic Assistance. Over half of Earth's population lives on Basic.

You are doing a variation on the ancient antiwar slogan “Better Red Than Dead” with “Trump” replacing “Red”. That might sway JFK, but he’s dead and thank goodness that charming lunatic died at 46 before he got a second chance to kill everyone with his stupid daring Moscow to nuke Washington DC.

Unremarked because you are unbelievable. WWIII is more likely an accident caused by two ancient unreliable nuclear weapon systems fired by low-level technicians doing maintenance in 2020, one American, one Russian, than a pair of JFK/Khrushchev style headstrong fools daring one another to go first to impress Castro with their brand new 1960 nukes. I don't think Hillary would play a game of "Who has got the biggest warhead?" Trump would play, he is that nuts.

Getting back to real things Trump actually does. Trumpcare for example shows how nutty Trump thinks:

Trump isn't a very good dealmaker. In Trump’s past jobs, he could simply move on from failed deals and find new partners, and new markets, and new sectors. But that’s not how the presidency works, and it’s not clear he realizes that.

"Take it or leave it" works only if you really are willing to leave it. In real estate Trump was because he could always turn around and do a different deal with someone else. But if Trump gets bored of negotiations and gives up, there's no other Congress he can turn to. He is nuts not to know that.

Then this too will sound like a ridiculous comment about Trump. It is from Garry Kasparov, Russian, ex-world chess champion.
www.cjr.org/q_and_a/kasparov-trump-russia-propaganda.php

Trump’s regular echoes of authoritarian leaders in his rhetoric, especially his attacks on the free press and US electoral integrity, are much appreciated by real authoritarians everywhere. The US is supposed to be a standard-bearer of these rights and practices, and still is despite a steady decay since the end of the Cold War. So to have the US president himself making these charges is a gift from heaven to America’s enemies and critics. As when Trump defended Putin by saying that the US had done bad things, too. Okay, yes, but truly to compare America to a brutal dictator, and from the president’s own lips! Moral relativism, “whataboutism,” has always been a favorite weapon of illiberal regimes. For a US president to employ it against his own country is tragic. Trump repeating Putin’s words—and nearly Stalin’s—by calling the press the enemy of the people, has repercussions around the world. Of course the autocrats and would-be autocrats would do as they like anyway, but it’s a boon to the Erdogans and Maduros, who still have to navigate the remnants of democracy and a free press. For them to be able to say that the American president considers the press a dangerous enemy of the people is potentially lethal for journalists in those countries.

Garry Kasparov has more to say at
www.cjr.org/q_and_a/kasparov-trump-russia-propaganda.php

Then there is the book: The Death of Expertise: The Campaign Against Established Knowledge and Why it Matters. Trump is mentioned. The author is a five-time undefeated Jeopardy! champion and a professor of national security affairs at the U.S. Naval War College.
www.amazon.com/Death-Expertise-Campaign-Established-Knowledge/dp/01904
69412#reader_0190469412

The book is discussed in the article: Why Americans have come to worship their own ignorance. Trump is mentioned.
www.macleans.ca/society/why-americans-have-come-to-worship-their-own-i
gnorance
/

From the article:

I think part of why Americans have become so divided about the way we talk about things in the public space is that people enter it convinced that the only goal of debate is to annihilate the other person’s position and never give an inch to the considered thoughts of another human being.

Q: And that was before the Age of Trump, I assume, since there is reference to candidate Trump but not President Trump. In any event the post-election news makes you look like a prophet. What do you make of the presidency so far, the world of alternate facts, accusations without evidence and the doubling down on certitudes?

A: It’s the inevitable destination down the road that we were already traveling. What the president did was figure out as a candidate how to harness this hatred of experts and this resistance to established knowledge, and to turn it to his advantage as a candidate. Now what’s interesting since the election is that the president’s had to bring in experts because every president does. You know, you can’t run a government on assumptions. You actually have to have people who know what they’re doing. It’s pretty early in the game, so it’s hard to tell whether that’s going to work out.

Q: The first travel ban was not expertly drawn up.

A: And it imploded, which was itself a lesson about what happens when you do things on the fly, without expert knowledge behind them. I’m not sure the next travel ban will fare much better, but it’s a much different ban, and it represents a retreat from the original concept.

Q: You spread around the blame for what you call America’s angry narcissism, in your even-handed way, and quite a lot of it falls on universities. Can you elaborate?

A: Sure. The problem with universities is that the competition for students has turned a lot of schools into client-servicing organizations. Students don’t learn the most important thing, which is a certain amount of humility about the level of their own intelligence, because they’re catered to. Because the grades are artificially high, because the faculty and the administration treat them like valued clients; they don’t really go through the difficulty and the discomfort that should be a part of a college education. College isn’t supposed to be comfortable. It’s great and it can be fun, a great time of your life, but it should also be a place where you rethink the things you learned in childhood. It should not be a constant reaffirmation of your personality or your worth.

We’ve also internalized the idea that everybody needs to go to college, which ended up diluting what colleges can offer. it’s now a mass experience, and college is taking the place of high school, including things like remedial English and math. When it comes to established knowledge, people who have gained a higher education no longer really know that much more than the average citizen. They’ve just stayed in school a little longer than a high school graduate, but they are not necessarily any better-informed or smarter. Forty or 50 years ago, the difference in education and level of awareness about important issues was distinctly different between college- and non-college-educated people. That’s one of the reasons why—this is a hypothesis on my part—the distinction that pollsters normally make between college-educated and non-college-educated respondents isn’t as strong an indicator of differences in voting as it used to be.

Not going to defend Trump or attack Kasparov here, but I think that it's half posturing. Kasparov wants to oppose Putin and discredit his supporters. Comments like the one about the flags or softball questions seem naive, like the one about moral relativism, but he does know what he's talking about here, he's just using it to apply where it really doesn't. I think it's political posturing for his own aspirations back home in Russia.

Sure, some of his criticisms are completely valid, but I know that he knows this is not new in America. He wrote two books on the evils of the Obama administration, he's familiar with our foreign policy disasters, and he undoubtedly knows their deep state origins, and that this element was not suddenly brought in by Trump or even Obama.

Note the number of times he backpedals on previous statements here that he says were hyperbola. He knew they were when he made them the first time. He wants to him home with the Russian voter.

Famous people (Kasparov is one) cultivate their fame to make it grow larger. Scott Adams, the Dilbert Cartoonist and mildly famous, is also growing his own fame with the help of book writing and interviews about Trump. In October, Portfolio will release Win Bigly: Persuasion in a World Where Facts Don’t Matter, in which the publisher says Adams will reveal “the secret tricks of the world’s greatest persuaders, giving readers what he calls ‘access to the admin passwords for human beings.’ ” Dogbert appears on the cover, wearing a Trump-like blond coif.

When Scott Adams began writing approvingly about Trump's persuasion techniques (the exact opposite of what Kasparov is doing), it surprised his friends and colleagues, who’d always considered Adams to be liberal on social issues. “When he told me about Trump, I was so disappointed, because I respect the guy so much,” says Stephan Pastis, the creator of Pearls Before Swine, who credits Adams with discovering his strip and making it popular. “I definitely get asked by other syndicated cartoonists—and the questions are not good—‘What’s happening to him? Why’s he supporting Trump?’ ” One explanation, Pastis says, is that Adams simply craves attention. “Cartoonists are addicted to reaction. I don’t know whether Scott would admit that, but I know it’s true.”

After the nomination for Presidential candidate was won, Jayne switched loyalties to Trump, despite Trump not showing any more Christian virtues or piousness than he ever has. The fact that millions of Christians could make that flipflop for Trump explains much about them. But I do remember when Jayne was an enemy of Trump and a big fan of Senator Ted Cruz of Texas because Cruz was the devout Christian and Trump was the fake Christian.

After the nomination for Presidential candidate was won, Jayne switched loyalties to Trump, despite Trump not showing any more Christian virtues or piousness than he ever has. The fact that millions of Christians could make that flipflop for Trump explains much about them. A Christian who supports Trump either does not understand Trump's positions or supports him in spite of Christian convictions in the same way that a person cannot be a vegetarian and devour a supper of Texas barbecue.

Oh well. You gave me an opportunity to launch an attack on Jayne's nuttiness. I've got another attack on nuttiness and this is more substantial than Jaynesque Christians lacking important Christian virtues. I hope you understand how nuts this next example is. I'm certain Trump did not understand ( or else he would not have done it ) and that may be too bad for my tax cut.

After Trumpcare failed, President Trump insisted that he had no hard feelings toward Paul Ryan. Ryan had worked hard on the health care bill, and it was just bad luck that it failed. In fact, it was really the fault of the Democrats, who hadn't provided a single vote. Not one!

About 18 hours later, Trump turned on Ryan: "Paul Ryan needs to step down as speaker of the house. The reason? He failed to deliver the votes on his healthcare bill."

ssiest-way-possible

Trump doesn't have the guts to tell Ryan to his face, so instead he uses a TV show to pass along the message.

The real message is that no one should ever work with Trump. He'll throw you under the bus at the first hint that he needs someone to take the blame for something that went awry.

Trump made a HUGE political miscalculation if Ryan should believe Trump and quit. When John Boehner retired as Speaker and Kevin McCarthy flamed out, Republicans were literally left with no plausible candidates for Speaker who were acceptable to all factions of the party. Ryan was the only one who came close, so if he quits then the GOP is in for some real chaos. That's just what they don't need as they try to get a budget in place and start work on a complex tax cut for me and the rich.

. . . in the past two months we've had a botched raid in Yemen; two attacks in Syria with heavy civilian casualties; and now an airstrike in Mosul that left hundreds of civilians dead. It's fair to wonder if a guy whose idea of military strategy is to "bomb the shit out of ISIS" has also decided that he doesn't much care about civilian casualties while he's doing it.

Why would you hire the guy who was hired by one of Putin's puppets????
Why would you hire a woman who's a House of Saud puppet? Why would you curry favor with the leaders of a violent coup just to get your son a lucrative position in Ukraine?

It would be foolish to fight this progress for many reasons. Unless you're insane, most people would never go back to doing things the old fashioned way when they already have tools at their disposal.
When you cage animals, feed them well, and treat them humanely, they go 'crazy'. They exhibit all sorts of pathological behaviors - excessive grooming, pacing, eating, sleeping, sexual activity, aggression, and so forth. That's because they can't engage in the survival activities that evolution has programmed them for.

And we are, after all, animals. The more abstracted and remote our activities become from survival activities, the less meaningful and rewarding they are.

At this point we need automation, because there are too many people to support in any other way than industrial strip-mining of resources - soil, wood, sealife, energy, water, and even air.

But it doesn't make it psychologically healthy for us.

At some point, assuming humanity survives and learns from its mistakes, we may need to keep enough technology to provide us things we wouldn't otherwise have, but return to husbandry, practical crafts, and so on, for our own well-being.

Yeah, let's impeach Obama. Wait... we missed our chance, damn.

I was calling to have GWB impeached back in 2006.

If you've suddenly all grown a conscience and this stuff bothers you over the last two months, I wonder where you've been the last dozen or so years.

“There’s a playbook in Washington that presidents are supposed to follow that comes out of the foreign-policy establishment,” Obama said. “The playbook prescribes responses to different events, and these responses tend to be militarized. Where America is directly threatened, the playbook works. But the playbook can also be a trap that can lead to bad decisions.”

I’ll be sad to see that attitude gone from the White House.
