And God saw this and said it was good, IOW, time to get a new god.

"ISIS in Afghanistan" wins a false narrative award

Terrorists posing for photoshop

Trump bombs nothing in particular in war against he Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, somewhere two or three nations away on the Pakistani border, for no reason. Liberals are quick to point out that Trump ain't so tough because Obama dropped more explosives on the Pashtun every day than MOAB.

No information yet. The Afghan govt. and provincial authorities hadn't heard about the bombing. I guess it's a big place.

Muppet: Boom. Done. Next? Afghanistan, Did Afghanistan. dropped a bomb. It was yuge.

This thread has no mention of ISIS-K or the tunnels or the 21,600 pounds of explosive in this, called the FATHER of all Bombs (according to misogynist Trump).

59 Tomahawks - $95 million - to blow up 1 airfield
1 MOAB bomb - $16 million - to blow up 1 square mile of rock

S'okay, the proposed budget cuts to PBS will cover it. No more Ken Burns, Masterpiece Theater, or Sesame Street, but we can all strut like John Travolta now. The pride is back! Oh damn, where'd I put that old paint can?

Not drinking that koolaid, JSF. Renaming terrorists "ISIS is like renaming them "Al Qaeda" so they fit in one agenda, because people didn't like the "global war on terror." And they don't, because Bush's "New Global Conflict" is just a thesaurus away from "Third World War."

Looks like Trump DIDN'T authorize MOAB. We have a problem. Runaway Military, and he has let it happen.

I don't see where the Russian implosion device fits into the picture, except for the sorrow of them not getting that Moab was a biblical reference.

River, 12% of their funds from from their federal endowment, and I suspect all they have to do to talk him out of it is stop calling him Hitler. That probably wasn't the suavest negotiating tactic anyone ever thought of.

Some people say Trump bombed Syria, wrecking an airfield and gobs of planes. Sounds like there is dispute on the matter.

Some say Trump bombed Afghanistan. Sounds like there is dispute on the matter.

Reports indicate Trump is moving an Aircraft Carrier Group off the coast of North Korea. Will he bomb the Democratic People's Republic?

With China creating piles of sandy islands, much nearer to other countries than their own coast in the South China Sea (and proclaiming the SCS to be Chinese Waters), will Trump move in there to protect interests in the region?

Somalians seem to still be pirate-happy, and maybe Trump has seen the motion picture Captain Phillips. Will Trump move there to tame the wild lawlessness?

How about Columbia, or wherever the drug wars are now?

How many different fronts is Trump looking to send his military, all at the same time? Has he already stepped too far outside his sandbox?

If Trump takes on all these miscreants at once, who might side with him, be our allies? Israel might be a good bet, in the Middle East region. Britain often sides with the good, freedom and liberation side lately. Maybe France and/or Germany. However, Germany and Japan might still have some restrictions on force from the end of WWII. Australia has a conscience, but how much will they care? Canada might join up, not sure about Trudeau. South Americans aren't completely known for their military power outside of their own countries, but they might spring upon the world stage with the right opportunity.

Anybody think Trump has a plan here? Or is Ivanka running the show?

Update: General John Nicholson ordered MOAB.

The Media posted a couple comments "I'm proud of a job well done" and "I authorize my military"

Now the media says "Why Trump's approval was not needed." Except for FOX who says "Why Obama should've dropped MOAB."

So, they've backed off their earlier Trump MOAB to someone MOAB in military out of control. We're also president.

This is more worrisome than Trump being president.

I should have earlier pointed out that, as one of the pleasant surprises from Trump, he has seemed to have brought a reduction in the micromanagment which has plagued military operations since LBJ started his Tuesday Noon Luncheons, thereby ensuring thousands of KIAs and WIAs in Vietnam.

This is a benefit I had not expected.

I suspect that there are hundreds of Generals who know more about the correct and adequate use of force than does Trump - or Obama, Clinton, Jiminy Catta, Ford, or LBJ.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

“What I do is I authorize my military,” in response to a press question about the use of a massive bomb in an assault on Islamic State group positions in Afghanistan. “We have the greatest military in the world, and they’ve done the job, as usual. We have given them total authorization, and that’s what they’re doing.

“Frankly, that’s why they’ve been so successful lately. If you look at what’s happened over the last eight weeks and compare that really to what has happened over the last eight years, you’ll see there is a tremendous difference.”

It's pretty clear this wasn't someone going off the reservation.

When it came to Vietnam, the war wasn't winnable, and would never have been, no matter who was in charge. And military brass can be just as deluded about the use of force, like General Curtis LeMay. Just because you put the military in charge doesn't mean you're going to get the result you want. In the end, you need both clear-headed military brass to figure out the means and estimate the costs, and a clear-headed president to decide if the objective overall benefits our interests. And when you're dealing with the military-business-surveillance network, that exists to expand its power and profit, you're probably not going to get clear-headed military brass. If all you have is a hammer, and all you want is a bigger, shinier hammer, then everything for sure will look like a nail.

The military was never in charge in Vietnam. McNamara was. He and LBJ managed to desecrate the military cohesiveness and eviscerate the effective fighting force that the military could have been. LBJ's Tuesday Noon Luncheons decided to micro-manage the killing of American GIs from the other side of the world, with McNamara's blessing, and McNamara took away the reliable rifle from the fighters, replacing it with the useless M-16.
