I'm loving watching the Left Wingers in here get so excited about a hot shot banker taking control of France.

Guess that sort of thing is okay when it's not in your back yard, huh?

France says "OOPS!"

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/12/03/france-fuel-protests-heres-whats-happe
ning-and-why-it-matters.html

Quote:

Violent protest in Paris has left analysts contemplating what this could mean for embattled President Emmanuel Macron, amid a resurgence in populist politics ahead of European elections next year.

The French protests seem to be inspiring others in Europe with copycat riots in Belgium this weekend. Famke Krumbmuller, partner and head of political risk at OpenCitiz, told CNBC that the disgruntlement of protesters in France could be felt elsewhere in Europe.

"I guess what's specific to this movement is that it is relatively apolitical, so they (the protesters) are not from just one party on the left or right. They're white, middle-class people that are squeezed by the welfare state. They pay a lot of taxes but they don't get a lot of benefits in return," she told CNBC's Julianna Tatelbaum in Paris.

Following several weekends of protests, tensions came to a head on Saturday when full-scale riots erupted in Paris with scenes described as "urban warfare" and "the worst riots in a generation." The incidents led to the police deploying tear gas and water cannons against protesters. A reported 133 people were injured (including police officers) and 412 arrested.

France's Interior Ministry said it had deployed 37,000 police officers, 30,000 gendarmes (a branch of France's armed forces placed under the jurisdiction of the Interior Ministry) and over 30,000 firefighters to deal with the riots on December 1.

If anti-Macron slogans daubed on the Arc de Triomphe, one of Paris' most famous landmarks, are anything to go by, they show that the protests are about more than just fuel and are reflecting a wider dissatisfaction with his leadership, his reforms and the economy.

Seen as aloof and well-off and representing the elite, Macron has seen his approval ratings continue to fall. That could be a sign of bad things to come for his party, La République En Marche, at the European Parliament elections in May 2019 and questions over his leadership at home — especially with the far-right Rassemblement National (the re-branded National Front) remaining a threat.

That's what happens when you vote for socialism and globalism, dummies. You get unchecked immigration and $8/gal gasoline and the privilege of paying $50 to get to work and back.

At 29% approval rating (in October) and falling, Macron's making Trump's current approval ratings look great.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Macron is definitely not a socialist by any meaning of the word I understand (he also didn't run as one). He's a financialist internationalist.

LePen was not his exact opposite, either. Her stance on social services (as best I can tell, they weren't a highlight of her campaign) was that they should be for French citizens only. Her biggest issue was with unfettered immigration through the EU and into France, which seems a reasonable stance to me, but which got her painted as 'far right'.

Then why is he acting like one?

You focus too much on what platform politicians run on and not what they actually do after they're elected.

He's not. It looks like he's trying supply-side economics.

"He is also routinely described as the "president of the rich", owing to his tax cuts for the wealthy and his remarks on the “crazy amount of cash” France spends on welfare benefits.
Macron is likely to face a tough task in domestic politics, with his ambitious reforms frustrated by a lower than expected forecast for economic growth.
The French president is planning to further chip away at labour regulations with a bill focusing on helping small businesses to grow by removing some financial and bureaucratic barriers."

He's into French-style union-busting.

"Not surprisingly, Macron has put labor relations at the center of his reform efforts. He wants to make it harder for labor unions to extend collective agreements beyond those who signed them. His proposed reform introduced the possibility for companies with fewer than 20 employees to negotiate a collective agreement even in the absence of a union delegate, provided at least two-thirds of employees support the agreement. It also allows companies with 20 to 50 employees to negotiate with an elected representative even if not explicitly mandated by the unions."

Nothing about Macron's reforms looks socialist.
Quote:

"To the left he’s a union-bashing president for the rich. The shake-up of pension arrangements for state rail operator SNCF affects almost 200,000 employees. According to Macron’s manifesto, that is just the start. He has plans to fold 40-odd employer and state pension schemes into one, potentially asking millions to give up benefits and privileges negotiated over many decades."

The Climate-Change Economic Tax on Fuel is what gave the high fuel " costs" - and is part of the Climate-Change Economy that many Liberals are eager for.
Do you interpret this Climate-Change Economy model as part of the Socialist or Globalist platform? I don't recall seeing this direct link between any before.

Pedophilia was legal in France BEFORE, bc there was no "age of consent" law in France. This law sets a statutory limit at 15.

There are still some "Eeeew" aspects to the law (allowing sex with children as young as five) under some circumstances. But this is a step forward.

I suppose on the bright side le Pen got a significantly higher percent of votes this time. Give the French a year or two of rampant inflation and falling living standards and they might deide to try something new.

The problem with French electorate is that they're terrified of voting for anyone labelled "far right" (I suppose bc of their history of collaborating with the Nazis during WWII), and anyone who is a populist or who doesn't stick to the center/ left wing is labelled "far right" - whether they are or not.

Sooner or later, that button labeled "far right" will get pushed once too often, and many will be able to see past the propaganda.

Marine le Pen made a mistake partway thru her campaign, when she watered down her message to try to appeal to those whose "far right" button still worked. But you can't win over the propagandized.
If le Pen runs again, she has to stick with her message and ignore whatever label The Machine tries to pin on her. And if Zemmour runs again, Oh la la!

Mr Jansa's Slovenian Democratic party took about 24% of the vote, compared to 34.5% for the Freedom Movement party led by former businessman Robert Golob.
The poll was marked by allegations that Mr Jansa has undermined the rule of law in the former Yugoslav state.

Well, at least you put a time limit on your prediction! Unlike THUGR, whose clocks are still tick-tocking in the void.

Seeing that you just posted about "Passive Russians", I suspect that post contradicts this one. So, care to make up your mind? http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=65024

They've overplayed their hand in staggering fashion.

You can lie to the people and get away with this while times are good, but when Leftist policy makes the world shut down and the economy drag it isn't going to fly.
