I felt the movie was an end to Firefly, not the hope of the series being picked back up.

I thought the movie could have been the start of further adventures in the style of the TV show in the comics, but it's not happening. The comics that came out since the movie are nothing like the TV show. The last page of the last issue of the comic has Mal say "somehow, some way, we're bringing the Alliance down once and for all." Yeh, sure Mal. That is even less likely than Comey bringing down Trump in tomorrow's testimony. Which brings me back to this:

Former FBI director James Comey gave a written statement to the US senate committee on intelligence ahead of his deposition tomorrow (June 8). It reads more like it was written by a crime novelist than by a cop: Detailed, evocative, and with just enough tension, the seven pages are quite the read, likely to captivate even those not especially into official hearings.

From the unusual presidential requests of loyalty to awkward dinners and the chronicling of growing tension between players in the DC halls of power, Comey delivered a remarkably well-written first draft of history that seems too novelistic to be true, and yet….

Based upon Texas Republicans' behavior, both voters and politicians, so long as the houses of Congress are controlled by Republicans, Trump will not be put away. I hope to be entertained by Trump sinking into Nixonian madness, but without Trump having Nixon's goodsense to resign.

If Comey gives Congress a slam dunk case for obstruction of justice against Trump, a Congress controlled by Republicans will ignore it because that is what Republicans do. On the other hand, if it was Hillary instead of Trump, Hillary would be a dead President because that is what Republicans do to Democrats.

It is laughable. The Democratic Party is under the delusion that beating the Republicans is only a matter of saying the right words on paper or TV as if logic and facts will carry them to victories in thousands of different elections. I think it will take more. The Democrats could learn how much more from the Republicans. "Do unto others as they have done unto you" is a lesson Democrats need to learn. This needs a few examples:

There’s so much more about Trump to investigate than just Russia. Tax evasion, fraud, misuse of charitable funds... when it comes to investigating Trump, Russia is just the tip of the iceberg.

Sorry, I don't remember saying anything about the movie. What I recall saying is "a fan of firefly" and that the picture was a picture of Serenity. As in Serenity, the ship the crew traversed the verse in.

And I quote what I said "And you are a member of this site why? It can't be because you are a firefly fan. You don't even recognize Serenity."

Incorrect.

Trumps own wordz make it an open & shut case. Have you not seen the Lester Holt interview?

Not good enuff for you? Then add hiz bogus cover story that he set up, ran, then trashed himself with that interview.

Then therez firing Sally Yates for warning him that Flynn wuz trouble.

Then therez finally getting flynn to rezine 18 dayz after that ONLY kuz the Washington Post wuz going to expoze Flynn.

The only thing holding up the impeachment iz Ryan and McConnel being too blind to see their anklez tangled in the ropes tied to the Trump ankor.

There will never be a Republican controlled Congress that would impeach Trump, no matter what was recorded with Comey. That is how Republicans behave. Now if Special Counsel Robert Mueller found out Trump cheated on his taxes or something else simple and straightforwardly criminal, Trump's legal problems would NOT go through Congress, but through the ordinary court system where his political party has less than total control.

Michael Isikioff of Yahoo News reported that four top D.C. lawyers had refused to handle Trump’s defense.

“The concerns were, ‘The guy won’t pay and he won’t listen,’” said one lawyer close to the White House who is familiar with some of the discussions between the firms and the administration, as well as deliberations within the firms themselves.

If accurate, Isikoff’s reporting suggests that a lifelong habit of skipping out on bills has saddled Trump with an attorney ill-prepared for the task ahead.

Friends of the president will reply that the Comey hearing did not produce a smoking gun. That’s true. But the floor is littered with cartridge casings, there’s a smell of gunpowder in the air, bullet holes in the wall, and a warm weapon on the table. Comey showed himself credible, convincing, and consistent. Against him are arrayed the confused excuses of the least credible president in modern American history.

It is not only the Republican leadership. For example, Texas’ own U.S. Sen. John Cornyn looks like he’d rather play defense attorney for Trump. As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee panel that questioned Comey, Cornyn used his few minutes with the microphone to raise the now-closed investigation into Hillary Clinton’s misuse of a private email server — a topic that would be distinctly more relevant if Clinton had not lost the 2016 election.

U.S. intelligence agencies assert that Russia interfered with that election, and Comey reminded Congress that Russia will interfere again. But the Republican Party has made no secret of its intent to spin Comey’s testimony as nothing more than fodder for cable TV talking heads . . .

My quick survey of ordinary Republican voters in Texas all agreed that everything Comey said in testimony should be ignored, but evil Hillary's email server must be investigated. From top to bottom, the entire GOP is protectively embracing Trump.

When the president’s id speaks, the world listens.

Consider his tweets mocking the mayor of London after the most recent terror attack. This is a time when a president expresses sympathy and solidarity — and stops there. Trump can’t stop, ever. He used the atrocity to renew an old feud with a minor official of another country.

He used London to support his travel ban, to attack his own Justice Department for having “watered down” the original executive order (ignoring the fact that Trump himself signed it) and to undermine the case for it just as it goes to the Supreme Court.

He boasted by tweet that the administration was already doing “extreme vetting.” But that explodes the whole rationale for the travel ban — that a 90-day moratorium on entry was needed while new vetting procedures were developed. If the vetting is already in place, the ban has no purpose. The rationale evaporates.

And if that wasn’t mischief enough, he then credited his own interventions in Saudi Arabia for the sudden squeeze that the Saudis, the UAE, Egypt and other Sunni-run states are putting on Qatar for its long-running dirty game of supporting and arming terrorists (such as the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas) and playing footsie with Iran.

It’s good to see our Sunni allies confront Qatar and try to bring it into line. But why make it personal — other than to feed the presidential id? Gratuitously injecting the U.S. into the crisis taints the endeavor by making it seem an American rather than an Arab initiative and turns our allies into instruments of American designs rather than defenders of their own region from a double agent in their midst.

And this is just four days’ worth of tweets, all vainglorious and self-injurious. Where does it end?

Trump is claiming James Comey perjured himself. That’s extremely hard to believe.

Why would Comey lie under oath when Trump has said there might be tapes of their conversations? If only Trump would testify under oath, he would be taken seriously when he accuses Comey of a crime punishable with 5 years in jail. But Trump is not offering to testify under oath, he is not offering to place himself at risk for a perjury charge, which is a strong indicator of who is the real liar. I happily await Trump's testimony under oath to prove me wrong about him.

I'd even be happy to hear Trump's recordings of his conversations with Comey since Trump said the tapes "might" exist, then Trump could prove Comey is a liar without Trump testifying.

p-perjury

Did Trump just say he’d testify under oath about Comey? He seemed to suggest that he’d be willing to give his own version of events under oath. But the exchange, with ABC News’s Jonathan Karl, was a bit of a muddle, and it’s unclear whether the president intended his answer to come across that way.

More clues that something weird is happening in his brain: Trump cannot answer the simplest question in a straightforward manner.

KARL: And you seem to be hinting that there are recordings of those conversations.

TRUMP: I’m not hinting anything, I’ll tell you about that over a very short period of time.

KARL: When will you tell us about the recordings?

TRUMP: Over a very short period of time.

KARL: Are there tapes, sir?

TRUMP: Oh, you’re gonna be very disappointed when you hear the answer, don’t worry.

So overall, this cleared up nothing.

If you were the creator of a TV crime series, what would you see as the key plot points of Trump vs Comey? The Wire’s David Simon with an interesting take:
https://twitter.com/AoDespair/status/872966218738741250

A year with some good detectives taught me that often WHAT ISN'T SAID is the actual tell. And note what isn't discussed between Trump and Comey. At no point does Trump make any concerted effort to discern whether or not Russia did in fact attempt to interfere in the election. Indeed, he notes that the claim has created a cloud over his governance -- so he can scarcely say that it isn't of real concern to him; his concern is premised in this meeting. Yet, he doesn't inquire as to what Comey and the FBI is yet discerning about Russia's role. He doesn't even do so as a means of disparaging the claim. (i.e. "I'm sure you're finding out that there's nothing to the claims of Russian interference, right?" It. Doesn't. Come. Up.

In this regard, I am reminded of every innocent and guilty man I ever witnessed in an interrogation room. The innocent ask a multitude of questions about what the detectives know, or why the cops might think X or Y or whether Z happened to the victim. The guilty forget to inquire. They know.

An old law school saw tells young trial lawyers to remind their clients to stay curious in front of a jury. There's a famous tale of a murder case in which the body of the defendant's wife had not been recovered yet he was charged with the killing. Defense attorney tells the jury in final argument there's been no crime and the supposed victim will walk through the courtroom doors in 10 seconds. 30 seconds later the door remains shut. "OK, she isn't coming today. But the point is all of you on jury looked, and that my friends is reasonable doubt. You must acquit."

Jury comes back in twenty minutes: Guilty. Attorney goes to the foreman: "I thought I had you." Foreman: "You had me and ten others. But juror number 8 didn't look at the door, he looked at your client. And he didn't eye the door, he was examining his nails."

Even when he was completely alone with Comey, Trump didn't look at the door. He eyed his nails. It's an absolute tell.

Why? Because Trump already knows that there is some fixed amount of Russian interference on his behalf, and possibly, collusion as well.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I have to say that you (JO, SECOND, SHINY, and GSTRING) aren't bothering to get the facts. As usual.

I was troubled by the conflicting views of Comey's testimony, and the garbled interpretations being made of it, so rather than relying on what "people said" about the testimony, I decided to go to the full transcript. I'm only about about halfway through, but I did want to clarify a few things and pass along some interesting information. Here is the transcript, if you're interested in facts:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/08/us/politics/senate-hearing-transcri
pt.html

Part of the confusion is that there are at least FOUR issues being discussed in these hearings:

1) Did Russia attempt to interfere in our elections?

2) Did the Trump campaign collude with the Russians?

3) Did Trump attempt to obstruct justice?

4) What other testimony came out, about Comey's handling of the Hillary investigation, for example, or whether or not the NYT printed a false (leaked) story about Trump and whether or not any in the intelligence community chose to correct the story.

The other part of the confusion is that Comey is being questioned alternately by Republicans and Democrats in order of rank, so each party is trying to elicit a different response.

========

Although I'm only halfway through, this is what I've gotten so far

1) Comey is convinced that the Russians attempted to influence our elections, although he himself admits that the FBI was prevented from examining the DNC server, and had to rely on private party to provide the info. In Comey's view, no votes were ever hacked.

2) Trump himself was NOT under investigation. Flynn, of course, is mentioned as a person under investigation for having undisclosed contact with Russians (and Turks, BTW, an issue that Muller will be looking into). All of the crap about intercepted communications in the NYT was false.

3) Comey himself felt under pressure about the "Russia" investigation. That "pressure" was in the form of Trump's "hope" that the Flynn investigation could be let go. Trump also mentioned that the Russia investigation created a "cloud" which Comey testified that he took to mean that it was taking up too much oxygen and distracting from Trump's bigger agenda. The "ask", according to Comey, was to tell the press that Trump was NOT under investigation (which he wasn't). It was FEINSTEIN (D) who characterized it as a request to stop the investigation.

4) There were other politics going on. Comey was also told by Loretta Lynch - apparently more directly than with an expressed "hope" - to call the Hillary investigation a "matter" instead of an investigation.

Comey knew for a fact that at least one story printed about Trump was false, but chose not to correct it. He also chose not to investigate who leaked it.

It was only after he was fired did Comey suddenly realize that maybe he WAS pressured, after all.

But outside of this testimony, before his dismissal he said he was NOT experiencing interference in the investigation, and according to statements given by the current investigators, they're not experiencing any pressure either.

-------------

So far, I don't see any...

1) Evidence about Russian hacking, just assertions, suppositions, and private-party "information" which was never independently investigated or validated

3) Enough evidence to make "obstruction of justice", since it has a fairly high bar to meet. Trump fired Comey before Comey could come to any conclusion about the 4 subjects listed by Signym. Trump didn't want Russia investigated more. Trump said:

“[Rosenstein] made a recommendation, but regardless of recommendation I was going to fire Comey, knowing there was no good time to do it,” Trump said. “And, in fact, when I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said, ‘You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story. It’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won.’”
www.factcheck.org/2017/05/trump-fire-comey/

Trump has an emotional problem with his election being questioned, doesn't he?

Trump is angry that Special Counsel Robert Mueller was appointed by Rosenstein because Comney was fired. Mueller will not be giving Trump any updates until the investigation into Russia is done. An emotionally distraught Trump might fire Mueller just because it feels right.

Maybe he fired Comey because Comey was the guy who could come out and say to the world that Trump was not currently being investigated by the FBI, yet he refused to do it.

Maybe he fired Comey because he was the head of the organization that has been leaking information like a sieve to the MSM for months. Well... everything except for the fact that Trump wasn't under investigation.

I would have fired him too.

Comey is a side show. The real drama is how Trump reacts to Mueller. Whatever the real reason for Trump firing Comey, Trump's interaction with Mueller will tell the world whether or not Trump wants Russia investigated.

If Trump makes a stink, refuses to turn over documents, makes disparaging remarks about Mueller, even tweets about Mueller, goes too far by firing Mueller, cuts back Mueller's budget, it means Trump does not want Mueller to finish the investigation into Russia.

Any Congressional investigations mean less than nothing because the Republicans controlling those inquiries are simply pretending to do the job. There is no reason to believe they are unprejudiced seekers of truth, neutral about Russia.

The GOP had already made up its collective mind last year, long before Comey spoke.

The FBI chief he fired called the president a liar, but the response from many Republicans was a collective shrug. The GOP still needs Donald Trump if it has any hope of accomplishing its legislative agenda and winning elections, and it's going to take more than James Comey's testimony to shake them.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Friday boasted of the GOP's accomplishments under Trump thus far, and promised more to come, making no mention of Comey in a speech. A group of House conservatives discussed taxes and the budget, with no reference to Comey or the federal investigations into Russia's election meddling and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Elsewhere, there were few outward signs of concern from the top Republican officials, donors and business leaders who gathered largely behind closed doors in Park City, Utah, for a conference hosted by former presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

"The people in this room, who give money to the Republican Party and who are focused on helping get Republicans elected, they do it because they believe in an agenda," Spencer Zwick, House Speaker Paul Ryan's fundraising chief, said in an interview. As for the Comey testimony, "there's nothing we can do about it," Zwick said.

It all underscored what's become a hardening dynamic of the Trump presidency: Republicans on Capitol Hill and off are mostly sticking with the president despite the mounting scandals and seemingly endless crises that surround him.

Though some are privately concerned, and frustration is regularly voiced about the president's undisciplined administration and the distractions he creates, Republicans have scant incentive to abandon him now. Trump's signature remains key to the still-nascent GOP agenda, and he has the ability to appoint judges to lifetime appointments, a thrilling prospect for conservatives.

And, despite Trump's low approval ratings nationally, his core base of supporters remains firmly behind him. Those voters will be key to the GOP's success in next year's midterms when Republicans will be defending a fragile majority in the House and looking to pick up seats in the Senate, thanks to a favorable map that has a large group of Democratic incumbents up for re-election in states that voted for Trump.

I expect Trump to fire Mueller, too. That is the most straightforward way to shutdown the investigation. Give Trump a few months to build his outrage at Mueller asking for documents, Trump refusing, and the firing will seem inevitable.

Trump might not fire Mueller this year since Mueller works so slowly. Trump will have years before anything official comes out about Russia from Mueller's office, although if there are leaks, Trump might get enraged and fire Mueller early. No one knows, not even Trump, what Trump will do:

"Bob Mueller's investigation is just beginning," says Kevin Andrew Chambers, white collar partner at Latham & Watkins and former Assistant US Attorney in DC. "It is far too early for anyone to speculate where he will end up and folks should get comfortable with the fact that it could be a couple years before he reports his findings. Remember, he is a career prosecutor. His focus will be on accumulating and reviewing the entire body of evidence rather than fixating on any one document, witness, or event."

Yep J0. It's party loyalty. That's why I was so supportive of almost everything GWB did.

Comey didn't fail at exposing Trump's "ties" with Russia. It turns out he wasn't even investigating Trump's ties with Russia. Rachel Maddow and your boy Olbermann kept saying he was, and he would, but even you admitted the day before the testimony that it wasn't going to be the bombshell that the Left has been looking for.

Time to show some evidence. Because at this point, yes... It would take Russian tanks on the White House lawn for me to believe it. People should go back to their lives instead of MSM conspiracy theories.

"The Russia investigation will continue," says a former FBI cybercrimes investigator, who spoke with WIRED on the condition of anonymity. One of the interesting things about this whole "Russia"-obsession is the incredibly unbalanced view that liberals and democrat take of this.

They get all in a panic about the fact that some computer in Alfa Bank "pinged" a server in Trump Tower .... and, to let you know how meaningless that is, it's the equivalent of dialing a phone number just to make sure that you get a ring at the other end ... but those 33,000 "private" emails on Hillary's unsecured server? Overlooked.

They chase phantoms, as described by "anonymous sources" who may or may not be honest or accurate, to confabulate some sort of "security risk" from a concoction of speculation, lies, and leaks, but Hillary's handing over control of 20% of USA uranium to Russia? ... well, it's invisible.

It seems to me that if everyone is so all-fired concerned about our security and wants to see our intelligence agencies crawl up everyone's anus in DC, maybe one place to crawl would be Hillary's. It's just a damn shame that the FBI and the DOJ "botched" the evidence-gathering and immunity-granting so thoroughly that righting the effort would be a monumental task. It's almost as if THEY were obstructing justice. Another set of anuses to crawl up would be the leakers'.

Just describing the comparative security risks makes me realize how driven this is by a fear-mongering media, and politics. 99% of the effort is going into a 10% risk. That's stupid.

JO, the reason why this thread has gotten so much traction is because the title promises, once and for all, to show some real EVIDENCE of .... something.

Well, not only have you not defined your concerns, you've twisted the definition of evidence to mean anything you want it to mean ... and still, you've failed to come up with anything on Trump's so-called collusion with Russia.

And despite actual testimony from a fired employee who has shown himself to be enmeshed in political partisanship and who has every reason to be disgruntled, there is STILL no "there" there!

You're right- despite the title's promise of "evidens" there's nothing to see here. Except for a detailed analysis of Comey's testimony - which BTW I posted a link to, so you all would have every oppty to study it for yourselves - I, personally, will be moving along. You're just another disappointing wanna-be.

You want to see histrionics and manufactured hysteria? Trump’s attorney said that he would be filing a legal complaint against Comey.

There are plenty of reasons to suspect that this is an empty threat.

Recent history alone offers several. The president claimed repeatedly during his campaign that he would be filing lawsuits against political opponents, parties and news organizations he disliked. None were filed. The multiple women who accused Trump of sexual assault over the years were likewise promised a date in court when they came forward with their complaints. They’re still waiting.

Another indication that this is likely a bluff is who is filing it on Trump’s behalf. If this were a bona fide assertion of executive privilege, the obvious route for the president to take would be to channel the complaint through the office of the White House Counsel. But that’s not who’s promising to file this suit. Instead, it’s Trump’s personal attorney, Marc Kasowitz.
