From Krugman's blog:

A meta-thought on the state of play: our government is now clearly in a kakistocracy (rule by the worst) death spiral 1/
It's still unclear whether Trump will ever be brought personally to account for either treason or corruption; but let's be real here 2/
It's surely safe to say that nobody really doubts that ppl close to him, and almost surely he himself, colluded with a foreign power 3/
Nor does anyone really doubt that he is using office to enrich himself, and allowing questions of personal gain to shape policy decisions 4/
On top of which his intellectual and temperamental incapacity for doing the job is all too obvious; Nero fiddled, he watches cable news 5/
So who's going to work with his administration? You know that you'll be irrevocably tainted if you do. If you're Gorka or Bannon, so what 6/
But if you actually have some reputation or prospects, this will kill them. At first, a few might still serve out of naivety 7/
or sense of duty. But more and more they find themselves surrounded by knaves, fools, and worse, with the worst at the top. 8/
So we're increasingly governed by people who are unprincipled, incompetent, and/or have glaring character flaws 9/
What happens to us and the world when some external crisis -- of whatever kind -- hits, and these are all we've got? 10/

A kakistocracy is a state or country run by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous citizens.

THGRRI

We see all kinds of divisions within our political system and the voters. At the moment, extreme positions are overwhelming the practical middle. However, when both parties decide to stand on the steps of the Capital together to right a wrong, there is no limit to the wrongs that can be righted.

Now as always, thank god for our independent media.

Absolutely! Huzzah!

Shhhh... Maddow on the cover of Rolling Stone mag. Interesting article, the tactics anti-Maddow folks take (lying of course), and her politics. I won't go into it because people are pretty well decided about her even if they don't know her beyond her some times "unique" presentation.

Paul Krugman had something to say about Republican performance and how the party makes up its collective mind about problems it doesn’t truly understand but is suppose to solve.
www.nytimes.com/2011/04/01/opinion/01krugman.html

Republican Presidents had problems in the past and the solution was always that the problems would, for the most part, fix themselves in time. Presidents Warren G Harding, Herbert Hoover, Nixon and George Bush come to mind.

Trump will be more of the same and if we are very lucky the damage to the USA won’t be worse than Hoover’s Great Depression or Bush’s lesser depression or the Iraq War. But you never know – waiting through eight years of Trump might make global warming a lot worse than Nixon’s Vietnam War or President Harding’s scandalous administration.

Denying the existence and seriousness of problems they aren't interested in solving is pretty much an automatic reflex with Republican voters and Presidents.
