This storm has been named Storm Evelyn. I've seen some call it Winter Storm Evelyn, which doesn't seem correct.
Last month, around the end of Winter, Storm Toby laid snow across the Northeast. I didn't think all of the remaining alphabet had been exhausted with Storm names before Winter ended.

Now that it is Spring, the 5th Spring Storm should be named starting with E. Is it being called a Winter Storm merely because there is snow, and this call is in error? I don't think Storms in Winter are randomly called Spring Storms, or Summer Storms are randomly called Winter Storms, even when in snows in July and August.

So, am I incorrect here, or is this in fact Spring Storm Evelyn?

With all of last month's snow (still piled over 15 ft in lots), we now have flooding all over.
This caused a train derailment near Hilbert, WI at 2am today.

Not snow, but weatherguessers on TV said that tropical Storm Alberto is the most North progressing Storm ever, still recognizable passing Indianapolis and Chicago. Apparently no other Storm remained intact that far north.

We are getting the snow today, at 4 1/2 now (plus a half inch of residual ice in some places) with snow coming all evening and more snow coming this week.

Mom lives in S Tx and she sent me a pic of the ice down there. Says they haven't had that where she is in over 130 years. And the last time it did, that summer had crazy massive hurricanes.

Roads are getting pretty bad. I just drove my kid a couple miles to her friends house and the tail end slid three times going slow.

We've had over 24" in the last 8 days here. Looks like about 7" more tonight and at least 3" more tomorrow night.

Lake effect sux.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Checking the forecast near Buffalo, there's a winter storm warning in effect from 7Pm this evening until 2Pm tomorrow, with an expected 7-14" accumulation. If the wind sweeps down the length of Lake Erie (which it often does) it could dump a lot more snow than that (which it often does).

A number of years ago, when we were visiting family and friends near Buffalo, Rochester, and Toronto, we left Buffalo one day to see our friends in Canada, and we couldn't get back into the area for about 6 days. In order to cross back into the USA we had to take the northernmost bridge across the Niagara River bc it was the only one open, scoot along the south shore of Lake Ontario to get to Rochester which only had a light dusting of snow, and hang out there until the WNY driving ban was lifted.

The crazy thing is, as we returned along the Thruway, the snow was only 3-6" for most of the 60-mile route, but when we took our exit the snow was piled literally 8-10' along the surface streets, and we were driving between high walls of snow.

So localized! So crazy!

Seriously. I know we have our differences, but be safe and stay in the for the next 24-36 hours if you can manage it. Not sure how cold it is down by you, but up here on top of the snow there's "you're-going-to-die-if-you-get-stuck-out-here" temps for the next few days/nights too.
