The Trump administration and key GOP lawmakers are playing defense after early data showed Americans are getting smaller tax refunds in the first filing season under the GOP tax law.

The average refund size through Feb. 8 was 8.7 percent smaller than the same period last year, according to IRS figures. Democrats have seized on the numbers, arguing they prove that the 2017 tax-code overhaul by Republicans was a "scam" designed to help the wealthy at the expense of the middle class.

We've already talked about this.

These people had less taken out of their paychecks based off of information provided in their W4's because the process has been streamlined.

I'll only argue that it was a dumb move on the part of the Trump Administration to fix this because people are so fucking stupid they just don't get it. The Liberal MSM knows that they're fucking stupid so they can run this story and make stupid people angry about it.

Stupid people are stupid about more than their politics or their tax refunds. They are stupid in all areas, which tends to make them more poorly paid than average:

That's kind of an unfair comparison.

You could probably count on your fingers and toes how many households in the country are run by somebody who is between 25 and 37 in 2019.

Not really getting your point here though. Are you saying that Millennials as a whole are more stupid than Gen X'ers?

Or are you confusing "higher" education with intelligence again?

In 2018, only 15% of Millennials (ages 25 to 37) were living in their parents’ home. What universe are you living in, 6ixStringJack, that you only know a handful of people "between 25 and 37" who are not running their own household? In Texas, men are expected to act like adults before they are 25 years old, and certainly before 37, and that includes starting your own household. Is it different in your state? Do you know a lot of people who are poorly educated and aren't paid well? There is a very strong connection between low education and low pay. It might be a law of nature that even Trump cannot veto, no matter how much Trump voters desire to be highly paid, yet think and act and live like ignoramuses.

Does a seven-page memo by a far-right Steve Bannon protégé explain everything about Trump’s dangerous and erratic policies?
https://www.rawstory.com/2019/04/seven-page-memo-far-right-steve-banno

Trump has claimed that there was an attempted coup against his presidency and by extension the United States. His critics in the news media and Congress are to be silenced, blacklisted and sued for libel and slander. Trump has drawn up enemies’ lists. Trump and the right-wing media continue to engage in stochastic terrorism and scripted violence. The Democrats, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama are enemies of the people. Clinton and Obama are in fact “traitors” who lead a “deep state” conspiracy against Donald Trump.

This is bad for America, but in many ways good politics for Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Public opinion polls and other research show that Trump’s proverbial white working-class supporters and other Republican voters actually believe that they are “oppressed” by liberals, black people and other nonwhites, gays and lesbians, immigrants and Muslims.

For Trump’s political cultists the calculus is simple: They are Trump. Ergo, when Trump is attacked they are also attacked. The personal is political in this most crude and literal example of white identity politics, where Trumpism is not merely a set of political positions but a lifestyle and way of being in the world.

In some ways, Trump and the right-wing movement’s pugilistic attacks are a decades-old strategy.

The “paranoid style” and its belief in victimization and in enemies around every corner and under every bed has been a fixture of American conservatism since the 1950s.

Wrecking the machinery of democratic governance through show trial hearings and a blatant disregard for standing rules and procedure and precedent have been used by conservatives since the era of Joseph McCarthy, and then against the Clinton administration.

White racial resentment and overt racism allowed and encouraged Republicans to amplify their obstruction against Barack Obama.

Decade in the Red: Trump Tax Figures Show Over $1 Billion in Business Losses

Trump’s official Internal Revenue Service tax transcripts, with the figures from his federal tax form, the 1040, for the years 1985 to 1994 — represents the fullest and most detailed look to date at the president’s taxes, information he has kept from public view. Though the information does not cover the tax years at the center of an escalating battle between the Trump administration and Congress, it traces the most tumultuous chapter in a long business career — an era of fevered acquisition and spectacular collapse.

Trump is 17% worse than that:

1985-1994 tax data: Trump lost $1.17 Billion

By the time his master-of-the-universe memoir “Trump: The Art of the Deal” hit bookstores in 1987, Donald Trump was in deep financial distress, losing tens of millions of dollars on troubled business deals.

Trump was propelled to the presidency, in part, by a self-spun narrative of business success and of setbacks triumphantly overcome. But 10 years of tax information obtained by the New York Times paints a bleak picture of his deal-making abilities.

Much was non monetary. Sometimes considered “tax shelter,” you would get it by building, or even buying. The Next Plague

www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2018/07/when-the-next-plague-hits
/561734
/

Anthony Fauci’s office walls are plastered with certificates, magazine articles, and other mementos from his 34-year career as National Institute of Infectious Diseases director, including photos of him with various presidents. In one picture, he stands in the Oval Office with Bill Clinton and Al Gore, pointing to a photo of HIV latching onto a white blood cell. In another, George W. Bush fastens the Presidential Medal of Freedom around his neck. Fauci has counseled every president from Ronald Reagan through Barack Obama about the problem of epidemics, because each of them has needed that counsel. “This transcends administrations,” he tells me.

And Donald Trump? “I haven’t had any interaction with him yet,” Fauci says. “But in fairness, there hasn’t been a situation.”

There surely will be, though. At some point, a new virus will emerge to test Trump’s mettle. What happens then? He has no background in science or health, and has surrounded himself with little such expertise. The President’s Council of Advisers on Science and Technology, a group of leading scientists who consult on policy matters, is dormant. The Office of Science and Technology Policy, which has advised presidents on everything from epidemics to nuclear disasters since 1976, is diminished. The head of that office typically acts as the president’s chief scientific consigliere, but to date no one has been appointed.

Other parts of Trump’s administration that will prove crucial during an epidemic have operated like an Etch A Sketch. During the nine months I spent working on this story, Tom Price resigned as secretary of health and human services after using taxpayer money to fund charter flights (although his replacement, Alex Azar, is arguably better prepared, having dealt with anthrax, flu, and sars during the Bush years). Brenda Fitzgerald stepped down as CDC director after it became known that she had bought stock in tobacco companies; her replacement, Robert Redfield, has a long track record studying HIV, but relatively little public-health experience.

Rear Admiral Tim Ziemer, a veteran malaria fighter, was appointed to the National Security Council, in part to oversee the development of the White House’s forthcoming biosecurity strategy. When I met Ziemer at the White House in February, he hadn’t spoken with the president, but said pandemic preparedness was a priority for the administration. He left in May.

Organizing a federal response to an emerging pandemic is harder than one might think. The largely successful U.S. response to Ebola in 2014 benefited from the special appointment of an “Ebola czar” — Ron Klain — to help coordinate the many agencies that face unclear responsibilities. In 2016, when Obama asked for $1.9 billion to fight Zika, Congress devolved into partisan squabbling. Republicans wanted to keep the funds away from clinics that worked with Planned Parenthood . . .

Well I figured that would be the case, but I find it pretty funny that Trump would bother posting that online for all the "geniuses" to talk about.

I'm going to go ahead and put a mark in the gaffe column for that post.

Half of Americans ranted and raved about how evil Trump was that the new tax code fixed, at least somewhat, a long standing intentional flaw in income tax withholdings that gave the Government a much larger personal loan from every working American than they should have been giving. None of these idiots realized they were getting more money per paycheck, but boy did they notice that their returns were smaller.

These are the same idiots he's trying to explain basic accounting 101 for rich people too? Probably not among his wisest tweets. I'll admit that.

Trump's $1 billion loss defense debunked by tax expert Richard Pomp. The expert starts about 2 minutes in.

www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2019/05/08/trump-tax-loss-new-york-times-a

The expert says that if Trump wants his old stories from the 1990’s about being a real estate genius, rather than an idiot, to be believed, he needs to release his tax returns from those years.

Do you honestly, for a single second, think that Trump gives two shits what you or I or this guy thinks about his old stories from the 90's, or whether or not he's an idiot?

He's already sold 1 million copies of Art of the Deal, whoever actually wrote it and, much to your chagrin, he's president of the United States.

He's under zero obligation under any law to ever have to show them to anybody outside of the IRS. He knows it. You and I know it. I kind of doubt some of the other uneducated chucklefucks here in the RWED actually know it.

You aren't ever going to see his tax returns. Period.

I think it's funny that some people honestly believe they could try to shame him into showing them. I'd advise a different tactic. That's a road to nowhere.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

If Trump doesn't care, that means Trump doesn't learn. This is something you should care about. I saw an example of Trump not learning from experience:

Trump Has Just One Trick — And It’s Not Working Anymore

The president has a single negotiating move: Take an aggressive position, and then retreat when the bluff is called.

www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/05/north-korea-resumes-missile-
testing-disregarding-trump/589081
/

Hillary Clinton often warned that Donald Trump would do to the United States what he had done to his businesses. She was thinking of his record of debt, failure, and bankruptcy — about which The New York Times offered grim new details yesterday.

But there is an even more disturbing way that Clinton’s warnings are being fulfilled. North Korea has resumed missile testing, disregarding both Trump’s wooing and his threats of “fire and fury.” It has taken the U.S. president’s measure — and found him weak and empty.

The Times’s story of the tax returns showed how stock markets found Trump weak and empty in the 1980s. Between 1986 and 1989, Trump earned $67.3 million from short-term stock speculation. His method? He would acquire a substantial position in a company, then boast of his takeover intentions. Trump’s words would drive the stock price up. He would then sell at a profit.

The trick worked as long as Trump’s credibility lasted. Which was not long. Then he started losing big and constantly.

Realizing you won't read the article, I'll quote the major blunder Trump made this month:

The big question in a trade dispute is which side can stand more pain. At the same time as Trump has threatened China, he has pleaded with the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates. The Chinese have noted the juxtaposition. The Wall Street Journal quoted an analyst at Chinese government-backed think tank: "“Why would you be constantly asking the Fed to lower rates if your economy is not turning weak?”

The world is absorbing the lesson that Wall Street learned in the 1980s. Trump has only one negotiating move: take an aggressive position, try to deceive others and maybe yourself about your own strength, issue threats you cannot fulfill, and then retreat amid losses if the bluff is called.

But whereas once those losses were denominated in the millions, today they rise to the hundreds of billions. Where once he troubled only those investors credulous enough to take seriously his tycoon image, today he troubles the peace of the world.

Learn what? I already told you that, at least in his mind, he's already won.

There is zero ROI for him if he were ever to release his taxes to the public. Nada. Zilch.

What could he ever stand to gain by releasing them?

People who were going to always vote for Trump are still going to vote for Trump. People who were never going to vote for Trump are still never going to vote for Trump.

The only two undecideds in this race in 2020 are the undecided voters themselves, and the amount of people on either side who are fed up and just stay home on election day.

After two years of RUSSIA!!! failed, it's back to the old tax thing. Those voters against Trump are licking their wounds and are just tired and depressed right now, clinging on to any potential idea to get Trump out as if it were the last hope in their lives. Everybody else in the middle is just tired of all of it.

Nobody will ever shame Trump into releasing those taxes, and just like it's too late to do anything about the Electoral College until the Democrats inevitably run the entire show again and completely forget about the issue, it's too late to change any laws to force him to comply with any such order in the next 6 years either.

My condolences to AOC.

Trump hasn’t learned how to bluff an opponent.

He is always backing down first. That is how he lost that $1 billion. He wasn’t in a strong enough position, despite his big mouth saying that he was.

I was trying to recall what Trump wanted, but won’t get done because he doesn't know what he is doing or he is too disorganized or he pisses off Congress just because it feels fun for him:

1) A replacement for Obamacare that is better
2) Build a beautiful, tall Texas/Mexico Wall (remember the government shutdown?)
3) Keep Mexicans from crossing the border (remember the border shutdown?)
4) Deport 24 million Mexicans living in the USA
5) Close Chinese factories and reopen in the USA ('Trade wars are good, and easy to win' www.cnbc.com/2018/03/02/trump-trade-wars-are-good-and-easy-to-win.html )
6) Disarm Iran's nukes (he is sending the aircraft carriers to Iran)
7) Disarm N Korea's nukes (remember fire and fury?)
8) Build $2 Trillion worth of new infrastructure (this time he really means it!)
9) Stop the opioid epidemic
10) Balance the federal budget so that the national debt stops increasing

None of it will happen because Trump is a loudmouth who can't, or won’t, run a large organization. Instead of working at his job for 40 hours per week, he spends his days campaigning to be in charge for another four years in a job he couldn't do right even if Congress was 60% Republican and Trump increased his working hours to 55 per week.

Is Trump running in a primary for the nomination of the Republican Party?

I’m pretty sure somebody should tell him he doesn’t need to, but he does need to be at work from 9 to 5 on weekdays, exactly like his White House staff and his Cabinet and all the other paper pushers working for him:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
Just landed in Panama City Beach, Florida for a rally beginning at 8:00 P.M. Eastern. Will be live on @FoxNews! #MAGA @tuckercarlson @seanhannity
4:13 PM - 8 May 2019
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1126264006988181505

ON A WEDNESDAY, instead of working, Trump is campaigning for the nomination of the GOP because campaigning is more fun than working.

We are not jumping around and having different, simultaneous conversations. It is always the same talk: Trump is erratic. The guy is the human equivalent of the random walk on Wall Street or Brownian motion. We have a Magic 8-Ball for President who always has the same few simple answers to all complicated questions.
www.ask8ball.net
www.indra.com/cgi-bin/spikes-8-ball

The President's shoot-from-the-lip interventions have made current world dramas worse. Trump often freely admits he doesn't know what's going to happen next with his risky global bets.

Trump just laid another risky global bet -- escalating a trade war with China by imposing additional tariffs on Chinese goods in the midst of ongoing trade talks -- and neither he nor anyone else can be sure of what happens next.

The confrontation comes at a time when anxiety is already growing over Trump's stewardship of several other foreign policy crises, including with Iran, North Korea and Venezuela.

Trump has cheated on his taxes. He has used every excuse not to do what every President does, share his tax returns. Every excuse but one: "I don't want to be caught cheating. Is that such a big crime?"

For several years, Trump reported larger losses than any other person in the United States. And in 1990 and 1991, Trump’s reported losses were double the losses that anyone else reported to the IRS. It’s certainly possible that Trump and his team of lawyers and accountants were simply a lot more clever than anyone else working in the tax field. But it’s also possible nobody else was claiming losses on this scale because there was no actual legal way to do so, and Trump just happened to get away with it.

The statute of limitations has expired.

Some shrewd people noticed, however, that there is no statute of limitations on judicial ethics investigations and filed a complaint against Trump’s sister Maryanne, who until recently was a federal appeals court judge. This would have launched an investigation of her that could, were she found guilty of wrongdoing, have implicated the president as well. But she cut the investigation short by retiring as soon as court officials announced that they were going to look into the complaint.

The Trump family has thus seemingly avoided legal accountability for the scam simply because this went down almost 30 years ago. But it raises the possibility that Trump is trying to keep his more recent returns hidden for the slightly banal reason that he’s been getting away with cheating on his taxes and doesn’t think his returns can bear public scrutiny.

I can't use Trump's tax returns to prove it, but Trump gave circumstantial evidence that he did cheat:
www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/5/10/18537282/trump-tax-returns-c
ongress-irs

The Democratic chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee on Friday issued subpoenas to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig for six years of President Trump’s personal and business tax returns.
www.foxnews.com/politics/house-democrat-subpoenas-mnuchin-irs-for-trum
ps-tax-returns

The Ways and Means Committee won't be publicizing Trump's return. They are only looking for recent tax evasion. Trump and his sister have been caught cheating in the distant past. Have they recently stopped? No one can tell without the tax returns. Trump ordered the IRS to not release the tax returns. The reason the IRS gave for denying the request is fatuous. Mnuchin said that it lacked a “legitimate legislative purpose.” But that is the Committee's purpose. The Committee is looking for tax evasion so that they can decide for the need to write a law requiring future Presidential Candidates to reveal their tax returns. If Trump didn't evade taxes, there is no need to pass a new law and no need for Trump to keep his returns a secret from the Committee.

Two hours later, I realized that 6ix and Trump voters in general have impractical ideas about "proof" and law enforcement. Here is an extremely garish case where the privacy of a man in a wealthy neighborhood was invaded without "proof", only a tip. I will give you a tip: Trump has cheated on his taxes. It is time to kick down his front door and get the proof.

www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-saenz-arrest-gun-investigation-20
190509-story.html

“This is a big stash,” Ramirez told reporters at the scene. “It’s beyond comprehension that somebody can have so many weapons in a residence like this, in a neighborhood like this.”

Authorities launched the investigation into the cache after they received an anonymous tip about a person manufacturing and selling guns at the Bel-Air home.

The ATF said in a statement that its agents searched the house after discovering Saenz was illegally selling firearms outside the scope of the federal license he possesses. Law enforcement has not specified how any weapon sales were conducted.

Maybe Trump didn't cheat on taxes in the last 6 years. But who knows until you kick down his front door and look for proof? The Ways and Means Committee does have the law on their side against Trump and his secret tax returns kept safe behind a locked door. It is a door the Ways and Means Committee ought to force open. Maybe they will, but Trump will be on the other side, holding the door closed with all his strength like he has something to be ashamed of.

Gun dealers can overlook the correct paperwork and run afoul of the law. Sometimes sensational search warrants with piles of guns often end up without charges. Maybe that is what happened to Trump and his taxes. Maybe not.

Having lived for a few years in Maryland I can tell you that Baltimore is a great city. It is beautiful and historic. The Inner Harbor area is amazing. Sure there are some problem sections of the city, but I've yet to visit any large city in the U.S. that didn't have some of those. I don't think Trump ought to have engaged in a battle over this with Cummings, but then he wouldn't be Trump. Seems to me that he's played right into the race baiters' hands, giving them a lot of material to try to use against him and his supporters. Yanno …. it's enough already.

No. Not America in general. Just the Democratic strongholds. Your list is a great start in naming them off.

Sure, it's fine if you're well to do. People who've got the money to spend $75 on the family for a day at the museum aren't likely to notice.

They are the most heavily taxed areas in the country by a longshot, yet at the same time they are the filthiest places with the highest crime rates.

Chicago is a big place. New York is even bigger. Make sure you know what streets your walking down. Especially at night.

I find all of this quite hilarious. Trump has everybody on the left not only defending politicians they shouldn't be defending, but crazy beliefs like there being no problems in urban areas.

Case in point...

Bernie Sanders (2015): Of West Baltimore: "Anyone who took the walk that we took around this neighborhood would not think you're in a wealthy nation. You would think that you were in a Third World country."

At least some people still have their heads on straight and know what Trump is doing here. Those that don't are going to be shocked that the Democrats get slaughtered in 2020 and have absolutely no idea how it happened.

Can SCOTUS fast track rule on a promise Trump broke? Trump signs budget bill as experts warn he's on track to add trillions to U.S. debt
USA TODAY Published 1:23 p.m. ET Aug. 2, 2019

Donald Trump promised during his campaign that if he won the White House, he would wipe out the national debt in just eight years.

But in his first 2½ years in office, he has gone in the opposite direction.

Trump’s total contribution to the national debt is projected to top $4.1 trillion, according to an analysis by the nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.
