There's really no point in having any debate at this juncture.

All we need to do is sit back and watch the Leftists apparently go insane like they have the last week or so.

I don't know what's got you all riled up, all of the sudden, but you're practically ensuring that Trump is going to be re-elected.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

RF has gone full-on troll, and a lot of the so-called left has gone whack-a-doodle. Yanno, I hated GWB with a passion. I loathed the man and his entire coterie of vicious war-mongering feed-the-wealthy neocons who thought nothing of killing a million Middle-Easterners as well as getting thousands of our soldiers killed and so many more maimed, based on a series of lies and bullshit.

But that didn't keep me from seeing Bill Clinton's and Barrack Obama's MANY and glaring faults, which ran - unsurprisingly!- along the very same lines as GWB.

It's a POLICY problem, not a personality one. It doesn't matter whether the President is a smooth talker like Bill and Barrack, or an apparent stumble-bum like GWB: Foreign "interventions" and provocations, the wealth gap and job loss ... have only gotten worse and worse since Clinton. Bush and Obama were no exceptions.

Trump, for all his many faults, is doing something VERY different. I disagree 120% with his "trickle-down" vision, but I hope he makes progress in withdrawing from our far-too-many military engagements (on behalf of the wealthy and powerful), re-balancing our trade imbalances and restoring our sovereign rights.

*****

SHINY, I'll do my best to dispense with the egregious insults if you do.

My point continues to be: As the nation with the overwhelmingly largest military force in the world (and the budget deficit to prove it) we must FIRST, DO NO HARM. Now, bombing, shooting, shelling, and torturing people - or paying, training and equipping others to do it for you ... CLEARLY does harm, so before we start down that road we have to make sure that we aren't doing more harm than good. The only way I know to ensure THAT is to make sure that you only use violence to directly defend yourself or others against violence. Otherwise you will probably wind up killing people because of "communism" or "freedom" or some other rationalization, and wind up doing far more harm than good.

One of the other problems using violence to achieve political ends is that once that process starts, only the most violent will get their way. In a nation with elections, there is absolutely no purpose to initiating or stoking violence, and any group that does that should be immediately suspect. That includes us.

News stories say that Trump wants a sixth military branch, the Space Force. I could only name four: Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force because the fifth military branch is completely unlike the others: the Coast Guard. Their mission is to do no harm, same as Signym's "we must FIRST, DO NO HARM."

The other branches are designed only for doing harm. The Air Force with its H-bombs and the Navy with it subs for nuking civilians by the billions. If you’ve been in the Army or the Marines, you know those forces are overstaffed with men who really want to kill civilians to "protect" America. It is a joke, forget the word protect. They are itching to kill civilians. The philosophy and the psychology is kill civilians. Spread harm wherever you go. Until the generals in all military services think like the Coast Guard, there will be extraordinary amounts of unnecessary harm done. (Hellfire missile into a wedding.) It is harm that cannot be blamed on the President or the wealthy. But there is one exceptional President – Bush/Cheney.

Bush/Cheney was a worse president than Trump: he launched the Iraq War for oil that killed thousands of people and probably prevented us from winning the war in Afghanistan that we really needed to win. Trump hasn’t done that yet -- though he might, given time.

But there’s more to a president than that. There’s also the content of his character. I will never let Bush/Cheney off the hook for approving the torture of enemy combatants, but at least he had the excuse of doing it right after 9/11 and the decency of being kind of embarrassed about it (thus the euphemisms). Trump, by contrast, considers it “strong” to loudly and proudly support torture -- and the worse the better. Bush/Cheney also wasn’t racist, something he demonstrated a number of times. Trump appeals to the worst kind of racist and xenophobic sentiment, and he’s dragged the entire Republican Party along with him. Bush/Cheney lied like any other politician when he needed to, but Trump casually lies about everything just for the hell of it. He’s also ignorant, deliberately nasty, and has based nearly his entire presidency on taking revenge against Barack Obama. I could go on.

This makes Trump far worse to take on a daily basis.

Trump’s New Argument: If We Don’t Separate Families at the Border, “Illegal Aliens” Will Murder American Kids
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/06/trump-family-separation-sa
ys-undocumented-immigrants-kill-american-kids.html

Trump also suggested, contrary to the available evidence, that undocumented immigrants commit crimes at a higher rate than legal citizens:

I hear that oh, no, this population is safer than the people that live in the country. You’ve heard that, fellows, right? I hear so much. I say is that possible? The answer is not true. You hear like they’re better people than what we have, our citizens. It’s not true.

He later repeated one bereaved father’s unsourced claim that 63,000 Americans have been killed by undocumented immigrants since 9/11, adding that the number “is very low because things aren’t reported.” Sleuthing by the Washington Post’s Philip Bump indicates the 63,000 number comes from a long-debunked claim about immigrant homicide rates by borderline-white nationalist Iowa Rep. Steve King. (Some of the parents at the event had children who were killed not in homicides but in impaired-driving accidents—but by my quick calculations, the 63,000 number would not be accurate even if you combined an accurate estimate of the number of homicides committed by undocumented individuals with an estimate of drunk driving deaths caused by same that assumes that they cause a portion of such deaths commensurate with their portion of the U.S. population.)

How many lies will it take, trolls?

Conservative George Will says vote against Republicans in midterms

Published: June 23, 2018 10:09 a.m. ET

Calling lame duck House Speaker Paul Ryan and others the “president’s poodles,” conservative columnist George Will says the virtual radio silence from Republicans in power over President Trump’s border policy means the GOP has to go.

Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy at the border was “the most telegenic example of misrule” and it provided “fresh if redundant evidence for the principle by which” independents and moderate Republicans should vote in the November midterms, Will wrote Friday in the Washington Post. As part of the policy — which Trump pinned on loopholes created by Democrats — families were separated and young children held in questionable conditions before the president later reversed the separation mandate.

Will said a GOP majority’s position to fill any upcoming Supreme Court vacancies is too high a price to pay for undermining the executive and legislative dysfunction he tagged in this column and other comments.

Writes Will, “the congressional Republican caucuses must be substantially reduced. So substantially that their remnants, reduced to minorities, will be stripped of the Constitution’s Article I powers that they have been too invertebrate to use against the current wielder of Article II powers.”

“They will then have leisure time to wonder why they worked so hard to achieve membership in a legislature whose unexercised muscles have atrophied because of people like them,” he said.

“Not because James Madison’s system has failed but because today’s abject careerists have failed to be worthy of it,” Will wrote. “Congressional Republicans (congressional Democrats are equally supine toward Democratic presidents) have no higher ambition than to placate this president.”

Party criticism comes after a tumultuous week for Trump.

Gaslighting is a tactic of psychological abuse in which the victim is made to doubt their own sanity, only here the abuser is the White House, and the victim is the American people. The Trump administration is sending up so many conflicting versions of reality that they make us doubt what is and is not real. The past week alone has provided one of the most gruesome examples of this, as it seeks to confuse and distract us from the plight of about 2,300 immigrant children separated from their families with no plan for being reunited. Those children are being held in detention centers, or flown across the country, with no guarantee that they will ever see their parents again. On Thursday, Trump signed an executive order which he claimed would end family separation; it does so only in name. The so-called “zero-tolerance” policy will still be enforced, but now the Trump administration plans to hold families in detention centers together and indefinitely. They have made no statement on efforts for reuniting the families who have already been torn apart — but it doesn’t look like it will be happening anytime soon.

There was so much deception in regard to this policy, the explanations emerging from the White House began to seem like Wheel of Fortune but for disinformation. Amid public outrage over family separation at the border, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristjen Nielsen claimed that the Trump administration had no such policy. That tweet was still on her feed when she drafted the executive order to end family separation at the border: effectively ending a policy she had claimed did not exist less than a week earlier.

Before that, there were various attempts to obliterate any reasonable comprehension of the issue. Trump said that Congress needed to act — claiming that his administration was simply upholding the laws and ambiguously (and falsely) blaming Democrats. In fact, there is no law enforcing family separation at the border. The decision to separate immigrant children from their parents comes from a policy enforced by the Trump administration in which all immigrants illegally crossing the border are prosecuted.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions was the foremost advocate for the zero-tolerance approach, and, he too engaged in an aggressive campaign of deception. He tried to cite the Bible as grounds for the administration's policies, an excuse that was instantly met with pushback from a number of Christian groups. Then, on Thursday, he said that the Trump administration “never really intended” to separate families, despite being on-the-record, on camera saying precisely the opposite.

All of this came amid optics that further scrambled the conversation. Nielsen and senior White House advisor Stephen Miller, a key architect of the zero-tolerance policy that led to family separation, were both chased out of Mexican restaurants. As the furor mounted over the impossible cruelty of stealing children from their parents at the Mexican border, it would require Olympic-level mental gymnastics to explain that there was not some deliberation in this choice. Such was the calculation that surrounded all of the White House’s conduct around the zero-tolerance policy.

On Wednesday, Trump ended his own family separation policy with an executive order, which was also an unnecessary display. The President seems to enjoy the pageantry of signing his name in front of the cameras, although he could have ended family separation with a call to the Department of Homeland Security. While the White House has said about family separation everything from it is necessary, to it is not happening, to it is the fault of Democrats, or a sacred duty, Trump was capable of stopping it all by picking up the phone. True to form, the President wanted applause, and Ivanka Trump tweeted in praise of her father. He wanted a congratulations for putting a stop to his own cruelty in an effort to confuse you into thinking he’s actually the good guy. This is gaslighting.

You can't be serious. Since when did changing the party of the President, and raising or lowering taxes, ever change our warmongering policy? Obama toppled as many governments as Bush, the only difference is that Obama did it "on the cheap" ... by using (CIA) drone strikes, proxies, the State Department, and contractors instead of giant expen$ive boots-on-the-ground invasions. Like Obama said: a more "flexible" military. The end result is the same no matter which party is in power: Nations are destabilized and impoverished which results in waves of migrants.

Donald Trump, the tough guy who makes the Hard Decisions, cancels the Congressional Picnic. “It didn’t feel right” while he’s working on “something really important.” But he still has time for rallies and fund-raisers.
www.vanityfair.com/style/2018/06/donald-trump-congressional-picnic

On Wednesday morning, White House cooks were flipping steaks and unboxing popcorn machines ahead of the yearly congressional picnic. Within the hour, the picnic was scrubbed, the steaks on ice, and the popcorn machines trucked away.

A day earlier, President Donald Trump enthusiastically told House Republicans in the Capitol basement he was behind them "1,000%" in their attempts to pass an immigration bill. On Friday he dismissed the effort as a waste of time.

Speaking to reporters as the humanitarian crisis worsened, Trump brushed away a question about his options: "You can't do it through an executive order," he said on the North Lawn. Five days later, he sat at his desk in the Oval Office attempting to do just that.

Trump's go-it-alone strategy ends in chaos and confusion. When in danger or in doubt, Trump runs in circles, screams and shouts.

This Obama-era pilot program kept asylum-seeking migrant families together. Trump canceled it.

The Family Case Management Program, launched as a pilot in early 2016, aimed to keep asylum seeking kin together, out of detention, and complying with immigration laws. It was praised by immigration advocates for both its high rate of compliance and its ability to help migrants thrive in a new country — right up until the Trump administration shuttered it almost exactly a year ago.

Sarah Sanders is upset a restaurant wouldn’t serve her. She’s OK with it happening to gays.
Restaurant-gate is really about the Trump administration’s commitment to courting divisiveness.

https://www.vox.com/2018/6/23/17497742/sarah-sanders-restaurant-red-he
n-friday-asked-to-leave-gay-wedding-cake

As Trump’s press secretary, Sanders defends his his many lies, his attacks, and his policies. She does her job with a sheen of professionalism, but that’s not the same as respect.

Sanders is fine with a business hanging up a sign ‘we don’t bake cakes for gay weddings’
The irony of restaurant-gate is that Sanders supports the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, Jack Phillips, who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple in Colorado. The owner of the Red Hen, Stephanie Wilkinson, told the Washington Post one reason she asked Sanders to leave was because of Sanders’ stances on gay rights. The staff includes several gay workers. The staff was also deeply upset about Sanders’ defense of Trump’s family separation policy, she said.

“I would have done the same thing again,” Wilkinson told the Post. “We just felt there are moments in time when people need to live their convictions. This appeared to be one.”

Sanders understands the idea of convictions and business. The owner of the bakery in Colorado opposes same sex marriage on the grounds of his Christian beliefs and so, he argues, baking a wedding cake for two men would infringe on his First Amendment rights. Initially the Colorado Civil Rights Commission sided with the couple, but earlier this month the Supreme Court ruled narrowly on the facts of the case, siding with Phillips 7-2.

In response to the Supreme Court’s decision, Sanders told the press she and the Trump administration “are pleased with the Supreme Court’s decision.”

At this rate, she won't be able to eat anywhere! LOL! BOOM!

I propose, at the start of any ranking of Presidential scumbagginess, that we start out by counting the bodies of the dead and maimed left behind. Apply some rationality (rationality = the ability to ratio, to compare relative sizes) and objectivity to our thoughts. Does that sound reasonable?

“Rape after rape after rape,” Valentine said. “Children below 10 years old engaging in sexual activity. All kinds of sin and disgrace and darkness; the pit of the pits. So we’re not getting the top-of-the-line echelon people coming over this border, we’re getting criminals. I mean, total criminals that are so debased and their minds are just gone. They’re unclean, they’re murderers, they’re treacherous, they’re God-haters.”

www.rightwingwatch.org/...

She’s echoing Trump’s words directly. Trump used the framing “they’re not sending the best, they’re sending...”. That’s what Valentine is copying here.

Along with “infest” this attempt to dehumanize children. 10 year old children, is exactly out of the playbook of the KKK, Nazis and other fascist, sectarian organizations. If this sort of rhetoric takes hold in a society, there are numerous examples of it being used to justify ethnic cleansing or genocide.

I seem to recall a lot of people here who CALLED themselves liberals, and a lot of people here who claim to be Democrats, who were all hot to trot to destroy Libya and Syria because, yanno, Obama was leading R2P.

"Liberals" here bemoan the thought of Trump making peace with N Korea or Russia because, yanno, Trump might get credit.

Further back, an awful lot of Democratic Congresspeople voted for the "Global War on Terror" which justified Iraq and Afghanistan.

Not seeing a whole lot of consistency from so-called liberals, who seem to be on par with neocons when it comes to getting out those missiles. Democrats in particular seem to go to sleep and "not notice' when THEIR party starts piling up the bodies.
