Next Year Trump will make a huge JFK style speech on some Planet or Moon maybe?

No doubt Trump will be lured into making some big speech on building some space project or space exploration

The Space Program would probably much further ahead if the United States did not waste so many lives and tresure in the Middle East during the Bush and Obama presidency, post 911, an era which has seen the US Leadership on the world stage stagnate.

Where is humanity with the stars?

Where is the United States or NASA with the planets and space science

currently the USA has no ability to put men in space and rents hitches a ride or pays for flights on Russia's old Soviet style Soyuz spacecraft

Why space is a good ground for contest?

Imagine two people competing two boxers or runners or people racing on horse back or whatever sport....it is a fair ground of competition and rules without anyone getting killed or going to war. Space is the neutral ground if anything is an economic and industrial contest of sorts

Is there more competition now more than ever?

China
Everyone has tipped China to be a big player this century and they were correct, Chinese blocked from the international space station. They have gone on to launch their own science probes, built the largest radio telescopes, possibly have ambition for Mars have confirmed moon exploration ambitions and Robots on the Moon. Built a Manned Space Program and built their own space station, they also test anti satellite weapons

Russia
Russia is the old Rival from Communist Times, the USSR and Soviet Union era of rocket designs. It was probably Russians and the Sputnik which started it all and then putting dogs, people men women and even space stations up there. All of the names remain the same Soyuz manned space craft, Proton Rockets, Fregat delivery ship just new re-vamps of old reliable designs...however I would always argue that the creativity, freedom and imaginative thinking should always put a United States ahead of the Russians no matter how weak the US program may seem .... although do not write the Russians off they always come back?

Europe
The Europeans have a mixed program, very scientifically advanced but no backbone for manned exploration, they have no real Leadership or 'King' as you see in the EU infighting with Brexit and other political events. However the European Space Agency is a collection of some of the most smart advanced nation states of Europe. They currently have science instruments, telescops, robots and labs studying Venus, Comets, Mars, the Sun, exotic paticle physics as well as the Galaxy and Universe itself. Europe in general is more of a partner than a rival to the United States and 'ESA' worked on the Hubble project with NASA

Japan
The Japanese also have a massively advanced robot program and science funding. They are studying stars, planets, particle physics, sample return probe to asteroid, again Japan is seen as less of a rival and more of a friend or partner to the United States often want to share its science on joint missions.

Others
India, S.Korea, Brazil, Private Sector
All other countries are growing rapidly, it is said even places like Iran or N.Korea might have a space program of sorts but the militarist implactions of these countries are clear, how to launch an IRBM or ICBM missle is not too different from launching a satellite. The Private Sector might give NASA good competition however would the Private Sector be able to come back from the loss of a manned space craft as other countries have done?
South Korea plans to conduct the first test flight of its locally developed booster engine at the end of next month

Musk made a lot of headlines, so did the ISS as it opened itself to 'space tourism' and Richard Branson's Virgin Orbit/Virgin Galactic
there is even a company Firefly Aerospace, with website at http://fireflyaerospace.com/
with jobs posted

and of course there are military and scientific benefits to space, holding the high ground so to speak

Also what is Trump's Space Force And What Does it Mean for exploration, the military or the Air Force or NASA .. US leadership has plans to introduce a “US Space Force” by 2020

Let the privet sector do this, if they can find a profit going into space they'll find it. (They put a car into space) Plus it'll save tax payers mega bucks.

We're nowhere. Yes we have better tv's, and 10 chicken nuggets for a buck, but everything else is worse, much worse.

I don't think you'd put 10 chicken nuggets for a buck in the "good" column if you watch a youtube video on how they're made.

I choose not to know because if I knew how most of our food is made, I'd probably never eat. But I like to eat, so that is as they say, that. Besides, I don't care if there are chemicals in it, as long as my lettuce is crisp! And if my nuggets are actually a tad Soylent Green-ish, well I can handle that too.

Hey... I still smoke cigarettes knowing full well how bad they are for you in the long run. Who am I to tell somebody they're killing themselves by eating stuff that hardly qualifies as food, right?

The day we're born we all start dying.

Hope you guys had a happy 4th ... looks like my prediction might be wrong :( anyways there's the 'Space Force' maybe there will be a Private sector push help build items and bots for the Moon or Mars, a Titan helicopter for that Moon that looks like a planet, the NASA space craft around Jupiter will find something, others will move forward Japan with new science robot stuff, Europe Arianespace the atom smasher, the Chinese have plans, Trump will probably just go and do the NASA shake up thing, try make them do more while spending less
