Yeah. We get along well enough these days, I suppose. It was a lot nicer when we didn't talk about politics though.

Quote:

No I dont. A bot iz software. I beleev youre a real guy sumwhere.

Yeah. Maybe you were just joking when you asked if Putin pays by the word. I was joking when I said you were Data from TNG.

Quote:

Dude. Stop watching CNN/MSNBC so much. If you look at my Russia! Russia! Russia! thread, you'll see a download link to Gallup and a poll that came out in June of this year that shows that less than 1% of the people in this country are buying into the Russian propaganda.

Quote:

Can you see wich colum that paragraf puts you in, referensing my reply to The Captain? Pollz are not facts.

They certainly aren't. You do have me there. I have said the same thing myself for many years.

My takeaway from that document, however, is this...

I don't believe that anybody here on either side of any argument has ever argued that Gallup has a bias, either way.

One of my largest arguments against polls is that they somehow try to speak for 300+ Million people with very small sample sizes, and this particular document seems to be possibly even smaller than some of the other polls that I've argued against.

That being said though, with a very long list of things that the people in our country are concerned with, Russia is near the very bottom of the list, and it says that less than 1% think it's important. I'll admit... I doubt that to be the case. I do think it's higher than that... if for no other reason how many people are loud about it online.

But the truth is that a vast majority of people don't give a shit about it. I never hear anybody at work ever talking about it. What I do hear them talk about is how shitty the economy is and how hard it is to make it by on shit wages, and how most of the people I work with have to work two jobs. I truly feel sorry for them. There is no doubt that I'd have to work at least two jobs to maintain my meager existence right now if I had a mortgage.

Maybe worrying about Russia is a rich person's problem? I wouldn't know. I don't know very many people who don't have to worry about money or how they're going to pay the bills.

And the ones that I do know in person I never talk politics with.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

BTW - if you don't know FOR SURE someone is a Russian Troll, it's best to not call them one. That's libel, for which you can be held legally and financially responsible.

1kiki, if you take a libel case to court, you must reveal your identity. You cannot go to court using "1kiki" and "Signym". Those made up names "1kiki" and "Signym" are just words and words cannot be libeled. There has to be a real person, living/breathing/deceased/decomposing, and most importantly, not going under a fake designation unconnected to a real person. Joss can sue for libel, despite "Joss" not being his given name of Joseph Hill Whedon. But a "1kiki" or a "Signym" aren't connected to any person, real or on a TV show. Until "1kiki" and "Signym" reveal themselves as people, anything said about the words "1kiki" and "Signym" is NOT libel.

You just called yourself a blind man. So, don't be a blind man.

Seek out the information that is available to you.

1) Read my posts from ten years ago. I haven't changed THAT much where you can't see that I'm the same person as before. The biggest change came when I decided that nationalism was the best path towards freedom, because centralized power is so much more out of reach of the ordinary person. But that was long before Trump.

Russian disinformation teams targeted Robert S. Mueller III, says report prepared for Senate

Months after President Donald Trump took office, Russia's disinformation teams trained their sites on a new target: special counsel Robert Mueller III. Having worked to help get Trump into the White House, they now worked to neutralize the biggest threat to his staying there.

The Russian operatives unloaded on Mueller through fake accounts on Facebook, Twitter and beyond, falsely claiming that the former FBI director was corrupt and that the allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 election were crackpot conspiracies. One post on Instagram - which emerged as an especially potent weapon in the Russian social media arsenal - claimed that Mueller had worked in the past with "radical Islamic groups."

Such tactics exemplified how Russian teams ranged nimbly across social media platforms in a shrewd online influence operation aimed squarely at American voters. The effort started earlier than commonly understood and lasted longer while relying on the strengths of different sites to manipulate distinct slices of the electorate, according to a pair of comprehensive new reports prepared for the Senate Intelligence Committee and released Monday.

Signym, if you read the article, you would have read "Some of the platforms that don't have as much traffic, but still have highly engaged communities, are the most vulnerable to a challenge like misinformation." That would describe fireflyfans.net, and you are pretty free about spreading misinformation, Signym. You would have also read that Russian disinformation operatives moved easily from platform to platform. Signym, you using "SECONDHAND quoting SECONDRATEM$M" and even your signature in red, which quotes me, are typical Troll Tactics. Signym, you quack like a duck; Maybe you are a duck.

Hav you watched The Americans, Sig? (I only watched seazon 1. Didnt find it to be so great, but thats likely kuz I'm spoiled from so many GREAT showz.) I understand that its loosely based on actual sircumstansez.

Pozing az an American in an internet forum for 12+ yirz woud not be in the running for the 'most elaborate effort to establish an identity' award at the annual GRU spy emmyz.

Yes, I'm saying I'm blind. We all are on the internet. It haz alwayz been the perfect envirement for fake personaz. That makes it ideal for an infiltration campane by a hostile power. Low cost intimate widespred community partisipation from anywhere! No need for long term sleeper ajents and the hyooj expens uv crafting real identityz.

I can appreciate the problem an internet ajent haz - how to push the messij They want without expozing your loyalty? It can be impossibl in sum situationz.

True. But have you read any of my earlier posts, like from 2010? That would establish my very long history here.

Use your common sense: Obviously, I'm not a bot. So why would anyone spend 10+ years establishing a very detailed entity on a (apologies to Haken) no-account fansite? Especially an entity that obviously takes a person hours per week, sometimes hours per day, discussing events and policies IN DETAIL? Doesn't that seem an implausible waste of time?

Quote:

Now that's just stupid. If I'm consistently pushing for American interests, how could I possibly be "working for Putin"? Heck, I think I'm more pro-American than YOU, JO!

As a person who has run for office, you have spent more time than most thinking about "American interests". It is an area that we MIGHT agree on, for the most part, but disagree in some areas. But it's something we should be able to discuss without resorting to paranoia and libel.

Apparently, JO, you've never run across AMERICANS who disagree with you, and with whom you fundamentally disagree. But I assure you, they exist. And they've been existing since before you were born! I read your platform, I think I know where you're coming from. but I really think that YOU ought to return the favor, spread your mental wings a bit - listen to people like

Tom Luongo (libertarian)

or
Harley Schlanger (libertarian)

or
Dave of X22 (Q conspiracist)

Gerald Celente (political atheist)

Noam Chomsky (extreme liberal academic)

CLEARLY they're all Americans, but you would find their POsV alien. Get familiar with the big wide world of ideas out there, and you won't be so disoriented when you run across them in the future. After a few years, you'll be able to recognize "who's who in the zoo" and know where they stand in relation to you, and where you are in relation to them. (BTW, if you go back and read posts by SARGEX, he's a great example of an extreme libertarian.)

Quote:

That's your paranoia talking. You assume that anyone who disagrees with you is hiding some deep disloyalty to America. Jeez. It's a disagreement - don't turn it into something that it isn't.

Quote:

WHAT A STUPID IDEA! WHY would someone spend 20 years pretending to be a Democratic liberal? Did they KNOW ahead of time that Trump (or someone like him) was going to be elected???

Quote:

A child coud tell Trump wuz working for Putin from very early in 2016, so you guyz are either part uv it or are extreemly gullibl.
If this is something a child could tell, then ... are you a child?

I'll give you my interpretation of Trump: He has some strong, heartfelt beliefs. They're not terribly thought-through, and - like most people - they even contradict each other. I honestly think that Trump - because of his uncle who worked with "nuclear" - came to realize that a nuclear war is bad for everyone, and because Russia is our nuclear competitor and because between the two of us we could destroy the world several times over, we should come to some agreement with Russia not to destroy the world.

It's the understanding of a 12-year-old, and doesn't mesh AT ALL with his economic warfare against China and Iran, who are currently joined at the hip with Russia, but there you have it. I prefer HIS understanding of the world because he grasps an important fundamental, as opposed to the liberal-interventionist understanding of the world which doesn't seem to understand that they are risking Armageddon with their constant holier-than-thou invasions.

On Sept. 10, 2018, @PoliteMelanie tweeted to her more than 20,000 followers: “Criticizing Trump in a book is just unfair. It’s like criticizing the Amish on television.” The next day, this tweet won the Chicago Tribune’s “Tweet of the Week” contest. What the Tribune’s readers didn’t know when casting their votes, however, was that “Melanie” was a Russian troll.

PoliteMelanie appears to be part of a well-coordinated network of Russian troll accounts that we monitored in the run-up to the 2018 elections. Examining a range of data points, including source material and the timing of tweets, told us that this account was most likely operated from Russia’s Internet Research Agency (IRA). This secretive St. Petersburg-based organization, financed by Russian oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin (known as “Putin’s chef” because he catered dinners for the Russian president), has worked for years to influence political conversations on social media around the globe. One may have assumed that the Russian trolls’ posts would be crass, vitriolic, vodka-fueled attacks featuring broken English and spreading fake news or simple pro-Putin propaganda. Most Americans probably believe that they could spot a Russian troll from a mile away — and that they would certainly never engage with one. These assumptions, however, do not give credit to what Prigozhin’s people have built.

What can you tell us about your operations here, Siggy?

Melanie who got post of the week had 20,000 followers on social media and enough exposure to get that award from a major news publication.

You ARE an idiot!

Also, rather divorced from reality. And a troll.

Melanie who got post of the week had 20,000 followers on social media and enough exposure to get that award from a major news publication.

I'm more inclined to believe that you're a bad foreign actor than she is.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

I originally read the article - which is an OPINION piece - at WaPo.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/russian-trolls-can-be-surprisin
gly-subtle-and-often-fun-to-read/2019/03/08/677f8ec2-413c-11e9-9361-301ffb5bd5e6_story.html

It was both puzzling, and deeply troubling. What was it saying?

To get to the main course, here are all the tweets, in their entirety, that WaPo opines were from accounts "most likely operated from Russia’s Internet Research Agency (IRA)".
Quote:

“Criticizing Trump in a book is just unfair. It’s like criticizing the Amish on television.”

“Daily reminder that the most educated First Lady in American history is a black woman with two Ivy League degrees from Harvard and Princeton.”

“#TrumpCampaignSlogans Real troll from America.”

“#ThingsYouCantIgnore a Russian plant as your next #POTUS.”

The first two are the most mild, inoffensive statements imaginable. The next two are standard Trump-derangement fare.

And yet, after screening tens of thousands of tweets, these four tweets are **the** prime shining examples of a campaign that WaPo calls "secretive", that "speak(s) vehemently" (vehemently? really?), aimed at "divid(ing) and polariz(ing) the United States" and "undermin(ing) our trust in the ... media, science, academia and the electoral process." Go back and re-read them. Then ask yourself if they fit the description WaPo gives them. And after that, ask yourself who is really giving the most air-time to the idea that our elections are tainted by Russia, and that Trump is compromised by Russia.

Getting back to this opinion piece, if these four completely ordinary, unremarkable tweets are too much for WaPo, what, I wonder, does WaPo find is an acceptable opinion to voice? What does WaPo find is an acceptable opinion to hear? No opinion at all? Only those opinions found at the moment in the WaPo?

Does the WaPo think Americans have mashed potatoes for brains? Do they merely assume that by putting out this opinion piece as some kind of valid news, we're so deficient we'll accept it as fact? Or are they so blatant they're actually telling us in the content that we should?

The only thing I get out of this piece is that WaPo thinks we're all so brainwashed, we'll just assume that any opinion at all must be viewed with suspicion. And if we're not, we should be. Because, as they tell us ... RUSSIA!RUSSIA!RUSSIA!

I was much further left back in the days when the Democrats at least seemed to be the party of free speech.

Not only do we have lefties on this board that will agree 100% with that article by the WaPo, but a few of them will defend Jeff Bezos to me as well.

I don't know what the hell is going on.
