Hey JSF, here's a great title thread...

The AG is proving to be a FUCKING Shill and a lying Sack o' Shit.
Now he claims that the intelligence community "spied" on the campaign.
It really doesn't surprise me, especially since he has "tainted" the Mueller Report in the realm of public opinion & scrutiny.

This fucking turd is casting aspersions upon the very department he is in charge of, plus insulting the entire investigation process and institutions.
It is just as Trump does, falsely proclaiming illegal and improper actions
without a spec of evidence. The Inspector General has not concluded his
investigation into the matter, so basically Barr (the fucking scumbag) is
doing exactly what he has stated that Congress should not do - draw conclusions or prejudge before the release of the official report. In this case, before the IG has finished his investigation.

The Attorney Turd is basically saying: "do as I say, not as I do."

Snake, scumbag of the year and scumbag junior. It's a toss-up who gets the
Grand Prize.

Barr realized that his mouth was running too fast, so Barr walks back the claim that law enforcement spied on Trump campaign. He realized that people would be furious at him for boldly lying. He had to take it back, using his considerable skills as a weaselly lawyer to do that without losing too much of his dignity.

Watch Barr grovel before Congress:

Barr will be working for living long after Trump so Barr is unwilling to disgrace himself like pop-eye Rudy Giuliani does all the time:

Speaking of lying sacks of shit: SLOPPYSECONDS is a lying sack of shit. Barr DID NOT walk back his statement. Here is the transcript (from SLOPPYSECONDS' own link):

Quote:

Barr: "For the same reason we're worried about foreign influence in elections, we want to make sure that — I think spying on a political campaign is a big deal. ... There were a lot of rules put in place to make sure that there's an adequate basis before our law enforcement agencies get involved in political surveillance. I'm not suggesting those rules were violated, but I think it's important to look at that."

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.): "But you're not suggesting that spying occurred?"

Barr: "I don't ... well ... I guess you could — I think spying did occur. Yes, I think spying did occur. But the question is whether it was predicated, adequately predicated. And I'm not suggesting that it wasn't adequately predicated. But I need to explore that."

When pressed by Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) whether he has any evidence of wrongdoing by the FBI or Mueller in the Russia investigation, Barr said: "I have no specific evidence that I would cite right now. I do have questions about it." Barr said he plans on reviewing "both the genesis and conduct" of the Russia investigation.

Maybe you need more clarification, Signym, you moron: What Barr is talking about is normally referred to as “investigation.” The FBI did indeed investigate various members of the Trump campaign, and there has never been the slightest evidence that it was improper. The case was precipitated by a tipsy George Papadopoulos telling an Australian diplomat that the Russians had dirt on Hillary Clinton. The Australians reported the meeting and the FBI began its investigation.

No. What Barr is talking about is SURVEILLANCE. In your terms, spying.

The Trump campaign was SURVEILLED. That's what the (multiple) FISA warrants were all about. That SURVEILLANCE began well before Mueller's INVESTIGATION.

I capitalized those terms so that maybe they'll stick in your mind as separate entities. I hope you can manage to keep it straight this time.

Collusion Delusion chumps be like …

Rosenstein: Criticism of Barr’s Handling of Mueller Report ‘Bizarre’

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein pushed back Thursday against allegations that Attorney General William Barr had been biased in his handling of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s final report, calling such accusations “bizarre.”
“He’s being as forthcoming as he can,” Rosenstein told the Wall Street Journal. “And so this notion that he’s trying to mislead people, I think is just completely bizarre.”

Barr, a Trump appointee, submitted a four-page summary of the nearly 400-page report to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees last month, in which he stated that Mueller had found no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia but had left open the question of whether the president obstructed justice during the probe. (Rosenstein and Barr subsequently declined to file obstruction charges against Trump, saying nothing none of the president’s actions had “corrupt intent.”)

Barr's testimony:
Two interesting points; one at 2:15 a long pause before he finally mumbled his answer.

Then at 4:04 - "I have an obligation to see that government power is NOT abused."

Wow. He actually said that.

then this:

And here is "Mumbles" once again bullshitting his way through questioning regarding his "spying occurred" statement. Notice how he tries to deflect
and distract the committee member by trying to suggest he didn't say what
he said. You could almost smell the shit coming from his pie hole.

Siggy, don't even try it. The word "spying" connotes a certain underhandedness
and hints at illegitimacy, "the practice is clandestine". There is a fine line between spying and surveillance. But usually surveillance involves legitimate investigation and good cause to initiate the probe.

I watched the House committee hearing and couldn't take his bullshit for more than an hour. It was just more of the same lies that this administration is
known for.

By the way, I don't give a fuck about your posts cause they're the same company line - bullshit. So, GFY and use the broomstick you rode in on.

"SHINY", I listened to the videos, and it was just like the transcript which was posted. There was nothing new there, and I think Barr was EXTREMELY clear about what he was doing and why. I don't know why you have a problem with his statement - it seems straighforward to me. Maybe you haven't been following that particular concern, but it seems as if the FBI used unverified information (the "dossier") to justify getting multiple FISA (Foreign Intelligence SURVEILLANCE Act) warrants without letting the judge know how sketchy the information was. If the judge had full information, he (or she) might not have even granted the warrant. That's what barr mean when he said "predicated" ... legally justified.

If that's the case, then there was underhandedness going on, and that's what Barr is going to look into. Are you saying that he shouldn't?

If that's the case, then there was underhandedness going on, and that's what Barr is going to look into. Are you saying that he shouldn't?

Barr was hired as Trump's hatchet man because Jeff Sessions would not bend the law in whatever direction Trump desired. For example, Sessions would not, but Barr would, investigate these warrants as Trump requested. (A thousand tweeted "Witch Hunts" made plain what Trump has wanted for years but Sessions would not give him. That's why Sessions was fired.) What is being said is that neither Barr nor Signym can think straight when Trump wants them to think crooked. The vaunted human capacity for reason has more to do with winning arguments than with thinking straight. An experimental example of how that works:

In 1975, researchers at Stanford invited a group of undergraduates to take part in a study about suicide. They were presented with pairs of suicide notes. In each pair, one note had been composed by a random individual, the other by a person who had subsequently taken his own life. The students were then asked to distinguish between the genuine notes and the fake ones.

Some students discovered that they had a genius for the task. Out of twenty-five pairs of notes, they correctly identified the real one twenty-four times. Others discovered that they were hopeless. They identified the real note in only ten instances.

As is often the case with psychological studies, the whole setup was a put-on. Though half the notes were indeed genuine—they’d been obtained from the Los Angeles County coroner’s office—the scores were fictitious. The students who’d been told they were almost always right were, on average, no more discerning than those who had been told they were mostly wrong.

In the second phase of the study, the deception was revealed. The students were told that the real point of the experiment was to gauge their responses to thinking they were right or wrong. (This, it turned out, was also a deception.) Finally, the students were asked to estimate how many suicide notes they had actually categorized correctly, and how many they thought an average student would get right. At this point, something curious happened. The students in the high-score group said that they thought they had, in fact, done quite well—significantly better than the average student—even though, as they’d just been told, they had zero grounds for believing this. Conversely, those who’d been assigned to the low-score group said that they thought they had done significantly worse than the average student—a conclusion that was equally unfounded.

“Once formed,” the researchers observed dryly, “impressions are remarkably perseverant.” Remember that, Signym, while using "reason". Reason is in air quotes because what Signym does with so little effort has nothing to do with truth. It's always only about winning an argument and not getting caught and having your teeth punched in.

SIG's usual dose of condescension - always a winner.

FISA - It was fine when GOP candidates employed someone for the info, but now it's not?

What was wrong with it again, exactly? Cites and links thanks. No one seems to want to answer that, rather just make assumptions or unfounded accusations.

Most objective people want to know what Trump's connections to Russia are. What his liabilities are. He's our president - any even marginally concerned citizen would want to know if someone has him on a leash. Trump's as dirty as a landfill and lies like a dog. You have to have less than 2 brain cells to not suspect he's compromised. Why else has he lied so much about Russia? I know you have no intelligent answer for that, but give a try, hon.

No one answers why for 2 years and with complete control of congress, the GOP never once tried to prosecute OBAMA or CLINTON. If they are so guilty of so many crimes, why not? JSF has run from that question for a couple months now - turn on the lights and the roaches run away.

All you Goppers going to run away again? That's all you guys seem to have - hiding.

Why does Trump hide his tax returns? Why does Barr/Trump keep hiding the Mueller report? All this hiding just like you guys do here.

No answers? I think I hear goppers scrambling, running away again.

Are Barr's words proof of Barr's motivations? Yes, they are. Then-Attorney General Barr supported the president's decision to pardon everyone in the Iran-Contra case, which gave clemency to people who had been officials in the administration of President Ronald Reagan, including former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger. He had been set to go on trial to face charges about lying to Congress.

To the man who led the Iran-Contra investigation, however, the pardons represented a miscarriage of justice.

"It demonstrates that powerful people with powerful allies can commit serious crimes in high office, deliberately abusing the public trust without consequences," said Lawrence Walsh, the independent prosecutor in the case, at the time of the pardons.

Barr said later that he believed Bush had made the right decision and that he felt people in the case had been treated unfairly. I also believe. I believe and feel that Barr is a lying sack of shit. He did not suddenly become truthful once he accepted Trump's appointment to be Attorney General. Barr's history of lying was his qualification for the job, something that Jeff Sessions would not do for Trump and that is why Sessions was fired.

"The big ones — obviously, the Iran-Contra ones — I certainly did not oppose any of them," Barr said as part of the Presidential Oral History Program of the Miller Center at the University of Virginia.

"I favored the broadest pardon authority," Barr said. "There were some people just arguing just for Weinberger. I said, 'No — in for a penny, in for a pound.' " Pardon all the criminals. Nobody goes to trial.

There were no consequences to Barr for misleading Congress in 1989. In a better world, Congress would have smashed him immediately, but that didn't happen. Obviously Congress learned nothing from 1989 because it, once again, confirmed Barr's appointment to Attorney General.

Barr’s Playbook: He Misled Congress When Omitting Parts of Justice Dep’t Memo in 1989

www.justsecurity.org/63635/barrs-playbook-he-misled-congress-when-omit
ting-parts-of-justice-dept-memo-in-1989
/

On Friday the thirteenth October 1989, by happenstance the same day as the “Black Friday” market crash, news leaked of a legal memo authored by William Barr. He was then serving as head of the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC). It is highly uncommon for any OLC memo to make headlines. This one did because it was issued in “unusual secrecy” and concluded that the FBI could forcibly abduct people in other countries without the consent of the foreign state. The headline also noted the implication of the legal opinion at that moment in time. It appeared to pave the way for abducting Panama’s leader, Gen. Manuel Noriega.

Members of Congress asked to see the full legal opinion. Barr refused, but said he would provide an account that “summarizes the principal conclusions.” Sound familiar? In March 2019, when Attorney General Barr was handed Robert Mueller’s final report, he wrote that he would “summarize the principal conclusions” of the special counsel’s report for the public.

When Barr withheld the full OLC opinion in 1989 and said to trust his summary of the principal conclusions, Yale law school professor Harold Koh wrote that Barr’s position was “particularly egregious.” Congress also had no appetite for Barr’s stance, and eventually issued a subpoena to successfully wrench the full OLC opinion out of the Department.

What’s different from that struggle and the current struggle over the Mueller report is that we know how the one in 1989 eventually turned out.

When the OLC opinion was finally made public long after Barr left office, it was clear that Barr’s summary had failed to fully disclose the opinion’s principal conclusions. It is better to think of Barr’s summary as a redacted version of the full OLC opinion. That’s because the “summary” took the form of 13 pages of written testimony. The document was replete with quotations from court cases, legal citations, and the language of the OLC opinion itself. Despite its highly detailed analysis, this 13-page version omitted some of the most consequential and incendiary conclusions from the actual opinion. And there was evidently no justifiable reason for having withheld those parts from Congress or the public.

You failed to address the comment that even tho the Trump campaign was surveilled in real time, they didn't find anything then, either. But perhaps you don't understand the nature of a FISA warrant.

You are also anxious to avoid that whole "fruit of the poisoned tree" concept, that evidence gained illegally is inadmissible. Also, that one or more of the intelligence agencies might have stooped to illegally-obtained warrants. I guess you don't think much of Constitutional protections and our other democratic institutions, do you?
