Trump's mind is taking a recess:

U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday launched a direct attack on House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, saying she could be guilty of treason for what he claimed was her knowledge of a top Democrat’s characterization of his call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

“Nancy Pelosi knew of all of the many Shifty Adam Schiff lies and massive frauds perpetrated upon Congress and the American people,” Trump tweeted, referring to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump tweeted:
Nancy Pelosi knew of all of the many Shifty Adam Schiff lies and massive frauds perpetrated upon Congress and the American people, in the form of a fraudulent speech knowingly delivered as a ruthless con, and the illegal meetings with a highly partisan “Whistleblower” & lawyer. This makes Nervous Nancy every bit as guilty as Liddle’ Adam Schiff for High Crimes and Misdemeanors, and even Treason. I guess that means that they, along with all of those that evilly “Colluded” with them, must all be immediately Impeached!

This is the necessary context in which Americans should understand the gravity of President Donald Trump’s attempt to strong-arm Ukraine into becoming a subsidiary of his reelection campaign. In one gesture, Trump reduced the survival of Ukraine to a bargaining chip in an utterly petty pursuit; embroiled Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, in scandal and undercut his ability to defend the interests of his nation; and weakened the clout of U.S. leadership on Ukraine, the region and beyond.

It's because he wants to be impeached. He's been goading them to do it for a while now.

Democrats:

"Don't go see Joker because Joker is Evil. It should be banned!"
(90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes with nearly 20,000 votes, and more people went to see it this weekend than all other films in release combined)

"Don't watch Dave Chappelle's Sticks and Stones because it's hate speech and not funny at all"

Also Democrats: "Trump is right. We don't have any good candidates on that stage. The only way that we can beat him is if we impeach him."

You'd think that the Democrat party has never heard of reverse psychology or the Streisand Effect before.

I will not vote for Trump. That is despite the fact that in his second term Trump would use his veto to save the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017". Because of that tax cut, I will keep receiving in his second term more than enough money to bribe me into voting for Trump, but I can't do it since he is so out-of-his-mind. For one example, Sunday night Trump did something completely crazy: selling out our Kurdish allies. It is Monday. Who knows what crazy foreign policy decision Trump will make today?

No kidding dude. You've said so a billion times already.

Not at all to the point.

We are talking about how Trump wants to be impeached and has practically been begging the Democrats to do so. He's tearing the Democrat party into shreds over the issue and even backed Nancy Pelosi into a corner on it even though she's smart enough to know it's a bad move.

The Democratic Party does not want a violent confrontation with the GOP. The Speaker of the House is avoiding all the back and forth, the dithering, and the inevitable Senate vote declaring Trump innocent. Instead, Nancy is waiting for Trump to go the way of Jeffrey Epstein, by killing himself, and taking down some Republican politicians with him. Will Trump commit political suicide or not? I don't know, but I do know some Republicans who have killed themselves. Why not Trump? He sure doesn't seem mentally sound. A comparison of tax cheating Trump to Epstein or Hitler, who killed himself, is no joke. The other big Nazis stood trial, then hanged. Epstein's co-conspirators will stand trial. Maybe Trump would rather die than be separated by a tax court from his money? If the Speaker keeps bullying Trump, maybe he will see only one way out.

I hope Trump lives. He is fun to watch. The antics of his voters while defending him are even more amusing.

I'll tell you a story: a little old lady I know had a flat tire. The flat tire is Trump, the spare tire is Pence, the lady is the GOP, the car is the USA. She won't pull over her car to let me change the tire. She told me as she is travelling at 2 MPH that she can make it all the way home, half mile away. I followed in my Ford Flex as the Trump tire fell to pieces. It was fun to watch, but she ruined the rim and damaged the car. She wouldn't stop. She had groceries and ice cream melting.

Nixon chose to resign. If Trump was smart, he would resign.

The implicit deal worked out reasonably well for almost everyone involved. Nixon got a pardon from Gerald Ford for his crimes (Trump would get a pardon) and, rather rapidly, worked his way back into respectability as a political and intellectual figure who would write books on statecraft. When he passed away, his funeral was well-attended by American and international dignitaries and then-President Bill Clinton delivered a eulogy. Ford very nearly won reelection in 1976. Republicans cleaned up in the ’78 midterms, and in 1980 Ronald Reagan became president, cementing the conservative movement’s control over the GOP and ushering in a generation-long conservative dominance of American politics.

Both Nixon, the Republican Party, and the conservative movement in other words benefitted from the decision not to fight it out to the bitter end.

Nixon, of course, was a genuine party man who cared about things like the long-term future of conservative politics and his personal standing in polite society. It’s not at all clear that Trump shares any level of concern with things like that.

Ukraine 'Anti-Corruption' Director Bragged About Helping Hillary Clinton In 2016: Leaked Audio

Artem Sytnyk was Ukraine's Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU - which Joe Biden helped form)

Quote:

Kolya: Did they, those Russians, help Trump? Your people?

Sytnyk: I think they did. Yeah. I helped him, too. Not him, but Hillary. I helped her.

Kolya: Yeah. Right. Then her position tottered, right?

Sytnyk: Well, this is how they write about it, right.

Ivan: Hillary’s humanitarian aid … [indiscernible.]

Kolya: Well, I’m about … the commentaries. At the time, we were not [indiscernible.]

Sytnyk: Trump … his purely inner problem … issue … they dominate over the external matters. While Hillary, she is – how shall I put it? She belongs to the cohort of politicians who comprise the hegemony in the U.S. Both in the U.S. and the entire world, right? For us, it’s … sort of … better. For Americans … what Trump is doing is better for them.

Kolya: Well, we have lots of those American experts here now … [indiscernible.]

Sytnyk: Well, there, you see why Hillary lost the elections? I was in charge of the investigation of their “black accounting” records. We made the Manafort’s data available to general public.

Kolya: So what?

Sytnyk: He was imprisoned. Manafort then was the head of the Supreme Headquarter of Trump, right? Then he was dismissed, too, including due to the “black accounting.” After that, he was sentenced to 80 years of imprisonment term. How about Trump? Did he not give a s***. They have their system working there and it works smoothly.

Kolya: Everybody worked smoothly there.

Sytnyk: And when they carried out the elections, a week before the elections, the FBI reopened the investigation in respect of Hillary. So her rating dropped for 7 percent and that’s why Trump managed to win the elections at a pinch. I’m still unable to understand why he’s fighting with the FBI. They try to catch him on the hand. If it were not the FBI, he would not have won the elections. They torpedoed Hillary’s ratings for 7 percent.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

updated - the magical shifting kaleidescope of facts that's called the news

So, I listen to old news, in this case NBC, to refresh my memory of how the news is morphed to maintain the narrative even as 'facts' fail. 'Facts' are dropped day by day from newscast to newscast, never to reappear.

Here are a few highlights of the ever-changing 'facts' about Ukrainegate.

background timeline
Trump-Zelensky phone call reported Sept 20, 2019
News reports are full of references to 'promises', 'quid pro quo', and 'pressure'
Pelosi announces formal impeachment hearings Sept 24, 2019
Trump-Zelensky phone call transcript released Sept 25, 2019
News reports replace references to 'promises', 'quid pro quo', and 'pressure' with 'ask' without notice or retraction of previous reporting
Whistleblower complaint released Sept 26, 2019
News reports drop references to knowledge without notice or retraction of previous reporting

It was a whistleblower (a mole)
With knowledge (gossip)
About 'promises made' that were (no promises)
Putting national security at risk (no risk)
For a quid pro quo (no quid pro quo).

Well there were no promises, but there was pressure (no pressure)
For a quid pro quo (no quid pro quo).

And Giuliani broke several laws by negotiating with Ukrainian officials (there were no meetings or communications).

Pelosi claims placement of transcript on server is a 'cover-up' (Obama did the same) // (NBC) "it was made clear to the Ukrainian government that access to President Trump depended on its willingness to "play ball""// focus is shifted off of Trump and onto Giuliani and Barr

By October 01, 2019 NBC has shifted its focus off of Trump, and onto Giuliani, Barr, and Pompeo // it also claims Giuliani talked with Ukrainian prosecutor Lutsenko, but failed to mention he's a FORMER prosecutor, not one currently in any position of authority

By October 03, 2019 NBC's narrative has gone from Trump's 'promises', 'pressure', 'quid quo pro', and 'security concerns' to 'privately urging' without a single acknowledgement or correction of previous reporting

Still listening and will post more soon.

The insane never-Trumpers will be driven even more insane in the wash/rinse/spin/repeat/ cycle they mistake for reality.

You know the sound that a flat tire makes? Flop, flop, flop. That is Trump. It is time to stop the car and replace flat Trump with spare tire Pence. Flat tires can be patched, but I see that Trump is afraid of what will happen to him. Maybe he will end up where worn out tires and ex-Presidents go:

U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland was ordered by the State Department to not appear before Congress for a closed-door meeting as part of the ongoing impeachment inquiry. Sondland was mentioned in the original whistleblower complaint and a key witness to the Trump-Ukraine dealings. Trump is afraid of what Sondland might say, that Trump is a flop, flop, flop.

Sit this one out. Trump is showing he is in over his head and out of his mind:

1) Trump talked to Turkey’s president last night and agreed to let him invade northern Syria if Turkey was willing to take a few thousand ISIS prisoners off our hands.

2) After the phone call, Trump decided to go a step further and withdraw all American forces from northern Syria, thus giving Turkey a completely free hand.

3) None of Trump’s aides or military advisors knew he was planning to do this.

4) Eventually someone explained to Trump that Turkey didn’t actually care about ISIS. They just wanted to wipe out the Kurds in northern Syria, who have fought along our side in the war against ISIS for many years. Turkey considers them terrorists.

5) Informed of this, Trump tweeted that, hey, we paid the Kurds plenty for their help, so everything is even. Besides, he implied, maybe Turkey has a point about the Kurds.

6) Even Republicans couldn’t stomach this, so Trump hastily tweeted that if anything bad happened, we could always “go back & BLAST!”

7) Republicans still couldn’t stomach this sellout, so then Trump tweeted that if Turkey does anything “off limits”—whatever that is—“I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey.”

Rep. Harris: Releasing Trump’s Ukraine call transcript ‘right thing to do’
William Brangham:
As the push for impeachment grows, we want to hear from Capitol Hill. We start with one of the seven freshman Democrats who wrote that piece in The Washington Post. Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger is a Democrat from Virginia, and she sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. We spoke earlier this evening. Congresswoman Spanberger, thank you very much for being here.
You obviously heard the speaker's announcement that she is moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry. In the piece that you wrote in The Washington Post last night, you wrote — quote — "These allegations" — this is about the president's behavior with regards to Ukraine —
"are stunning, both in the national security threat they pose and the potential corruption they represent." You spent some time in the CIA. Can you give me a sense about, what it is that is most troubling about his behavior?

Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va.:
What's most troubling about these allegations is the fact that we see a president who allegedly pressured a foreign government to provide information, to dig up dirt on a political opponent, and that he potentially sought to use security assistance funds, taxpayer dollars, to leverage and to create that pressure.
From a national security perspective, this is tremendously worrisome on multiple fronts. First and foremost, the fact that we would have security assistance funding at play, leveraged, potentially not going where it needs to go, after it's been appropriated by Congress, is troubling element number one. The fact that we would have a president who would potentially put himself in a position of pressuring a foreign government, that's not how our diplomatic relationships are supposed to go. And then, of course, there's the primary piece, that we shouldn't have a president of the United States who is using his power to collect information for his own personal gain.
And I think there are so many troubling threads here with these allegations that we really do need a full investigation to understand if they are true or if they are not.
And I think the ramifications from a national security perspective go very far beyond where we are right now. What does this say potentially, even just the allegations, to other nations? Does this mean that we have a president that might treat another country favorably if they were to proactively provide information about one of his political rivals?
There are so many elements that are deeply troubling.
But the core facts of it, the fact that we have a president who would leverage his political position for his own personal gain and put U.S. assistance dollars on the table in such a manner, those allegations are striking.

William Brangham:
You mentioned in your piece last night and just now that — if these allegations are true. We still don't have all the facts. The president himself is pointing out that we still haven't seen a transcript of the phone call. We haven't seen the whistle-blower's report. Do you think it's too early to be talking about an impeachment inquiry, given that we don't know all the facts yet,
despite the president's admissions?

Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va.:
Well, I think the important piece about an impeachment inquiry or the congressional power of inherent contempt, subpoenas or any other tools that we have, these are tools that allow Congress to get to the bottom of an issue. These are tools that allow us to have a privileged process when investigating these allegations. I don't think that it should be a foregone conclusion that we are definitely destined towards impeachment.
I think — I wanted to be very clear, as did my colleagues, that these allegations, if true, are impeachable offenses. But the goal at this point in time is to make clear the gravity of these allegations to the American people, to our colleagues in Congress, and to advocate that we use every tool available to Congress to get to the bottom of it and to prove these allegations true or false.

William Brangham:
If the president releases tomorrow, as he has promised, the transcript of that phone call, will that be enough to settle these questions?

Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va.:
Oh, I don't think so. I think there are so many pieces of evidence that we need to have and so many questions that we need to have answered.
Why would the president have withheld hundreds of millions of dollars of security assistance to Ukraine? Were there other phone calls that occurred? What are the details that the whistle-blower who came forward that currently the DNI is not allowing that information to go to Congress, as required by law?
There are many more unanswered questions than the actual substance of one particular phone call. And, as a former CIA case officer, as a former law enforcement officer, for me, it is all about facts and evidence.
And so I hope that my colleagues and certainly members of the press and the American people won't think that there is just one piece of evidence that we need to prove one way or the other. My hope is that we will pursue every element of information we possibly can have, so that, if we are getting to the point where we say these allegations are true or false, we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that that is, in fact, the case.

William Brangham:
If the House were to gather all this evidence and see that it was important enough to vote to impeach the president, by all measures, the Senate is not going to convict the president. Do you still think it would be worth it to go through this exercise?

Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va.:
Well, I am of the belief that people who are elected to office are going to put their oath to uphold the Constitution above and beyond their political affiliation.
I believe,
I have faith that any elected member of the Congress or the Senate will eventually put country before party when the choice is there the make.

If, throughout the course of an investigation, it becomes clear enough that there would be a positive vote on articles of impeachment within the House of Representatives, my expectation is that, in order to get that outcome, based on facts and evidence, it would be clear within the Senate what it is that they would be weighing in on.

William Brangham:
All right, Representative Abigail Spanberger, thank you very much.

Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va.:
Thank you very much, William. I appreciate it.

Trump's lawyer wrote that Trump will never give a shit what you want since Trump cannot be impeached because he is bigger, better, and stronger than Congress: "The President cannot allow your constitutionally illegitimate proceedings to distract him and those in the Executive Branch from their work."

This letter was plainly NOT written with legal arguments in mind. No lawyer would do anything but laugh at it. Rather, it’s aimed at Trump’s base and, especially, Fox News. It provides them with approved talking points going forward, and I expect to hear versions of these talking points 24/7 throughout conservative media for weeks to come.

Wrong as usual, 6ix.

What Trump wants is for the GOP controlled Senate to vote "Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity", a plea entered by a defendant in a criminal trial, in which the defendant claims that he or she was so mentally disturbed or incapacitated at the time of the offense that he could not have intended to commit the crime. A jury that agrees with this plea may find the defendant not guilty by reason of insanity, but usually the defendant faces civil commitment proceedings if the defendant is judged to be dangerous in a subsequent hearing.

Being insane will not lower Trump's tax bill calculated by forensic accountants.

There's another plausible reason Trump is pulling out of Syria. He wants the contract to build all the new homes that will be required to house those, who come to occupy the so called safe zone between Syria and Turkey.

If I were Trump, and I was building there, I would be VERY worried that my buildings would be blown up in a new war before the mortgage was paid. Then Trump-Syrian-Towers Inc. would have to declare bankruptcy.

I see that Trump is about to get many of America's Kurdish Allies murdered. I don't think a Kurd would want to move into a building owned by Trump.

I recall Obama promising to close Guantanamo, where the prisoners are kept from Bush's War on Terrorism. But he could NOT because of Republicans in both Congress and the Pentagon. As an alternative, Obama could have followed Trump's playbook with the Kurds in Syria. Obama could have withdrawn all the troops from Gitmo, bombed the prisoners in their cells, then invited the Cubans to invade Gitmo. That would have worked exactly like what Trump is doing to the Kurds. (But come to think of it, that might have gotten Obama impeached if he did what Trump is doing. No -- make that Obama would be impeached, guaranteed. But Trump? The rules don't apply to him. Ask ANY Republican Senator, except Mitt Romney.)

Why Obama Has Failed to Close Guantánamo
Congress is blamed for preventing the President from fulfilling his pledge. But that’s not the whole story.

Did Trump betray the Kurds for Trump Towers in Istanbul?

Following a phone call between Trump and Turkey’s president, we are suddenly pulling back U.S. troops to make way for Turkey’s planned invasion to clear the Kurds out of the border zone in Syria.

It makes you wonder what exactly was said during that phone conversation. Trump has a lucrative property in Istanbul, one he’s acknowledged could affect his decision-making.

“I have a little conflict of interest ’cause I have a major, major building in Istanbul,” Trump told Breitbart radio during his campaign. “It’s a tremendously successful job. It’s called Trump Towers — two towers, instead of one, not the usual one, it’s two.”

Are we now allowing Turkey to come in and massacre the Kurds, because of his business interests?

We don’t know, and that’s the point. We even can’t trust our own president to put America’s interests first.

In response to the impeachment launch, Trump has, at turns, defended his request that a foreign leader investigate a political rival; denied dangling U.S. aid for political favors; blamed his Energy secretary for initiating the call; and accused Speaker Nancy Pelosi of committing treason.

Too bad for you, but Trump and his spokesmen, including Rudy, have no control over an impeachment.

The Constitution contains just a handful of lines discussing impeachment. But in those scant words, it gives the House and its leaders wide latitude to decide how to handle it.

Here’s what the Constitution says about the House’s role: “The House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.” Likewise, the Constitution gives the Senate the “sole” power to try all impeachments, saying, “no person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two-thirds of the Members present.”

But beyond those lines, there isn’t much more information spelling out exactly how the process should work — which gives the House free rein to decide how things can go, including whether to launch the inquiry with a full floor vote or not.

Maybe Trump should take this to the Supreme Court? Complain that a President can't be impeached until the President agrees to be impeached.

"Pelosi is breaking with precedent, but not rules or the law."

Legally, precedent is important where the law is silent.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impeachment_in_the_United_States
And, while it's not a precedent to have investigations voted on by the full House, it IS a precedent that the full House vote on impeachment hearings.

In addition (according to wiki):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impeachment_in_the_United_States

Jefferson's Manual, which is integral to the Rules of the House of Representatives,[16] states that impeachment is set in motion by charges made on the floor, charges proferred by a memorial, a member's resolution referred to a committee, a message from the president, or from facts developed and reported by an investigating committee of the House. It further states that a proposition to impeach is a question of high privilege in the House and at once supersedes business otherwise in order under the rules governing the order of business.

The House Practice: A Guide to the Rules, Precedents and Procedures of the House[17] is a reference source for information on the rules and selected precedents governing the House procedure, prepared by the House Parliamentarian. The manual has a chapter on the House's rules, procedures, and precedent for impeachment.

A reading of the most recent available document indicates a vote by the full House is necessary to conduct an investigation.

https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/GPO-HPRACTICE-115/pdf/GPO-HPRACTIC
E-115.pdf

Generally
Under the modern practice, an impeachment is normally instituted by the House by the adoption of a resolution calling for a committee investigation of charges against the officer in question. This committee may, after investigation, recommend the dismissal of charges or it may recommend impeachment.

https://watergate.info/sussman/extract-6-the-great-cover-up

For one thing, there is the matter of the tapes. Had Nixon not been so foolish as to install that taping system in his office or if Alexander Butterfield had not made that historic revelation of its existence to the Senate Watergate committee, Richard Nixon would undoubtedly still be President of the United States. There would still have been much incriminating evidence (Dean’s testimony, for example), but there would not have been the solid, indisputable proof that was needed to turn most Republicans against one of their own.

It is sobering to realize just how reluctant Congress, including Democrats as well as Republicans, was to take action against the President. Congress acted only when an outraged public demanded it.

Equivalent to Nixon's tapes are Trump's tax returns. The public outrage when Trump's tax cheating is known will make a difference that sweeps away all of Trump's stonewalling. I expect Trump's tax returns to be decided by the Supreme Court just as the Court decided about Nixon's tapes.

A reading of the most recent available document indicates a vote by the full House is necessary to conduct an investigation.

Generally
Under the modern practice, an impeachment is normally instituted by the House by the adoption of a resolution calling for a committee investigation of charges against the officer in question. This committee may, after investigation, recommend the dismissal of charges or it may recommend impeachment.

1kiki, you are mixing impeachment of judges with impeachment of Presidents. Even though both are called "impeachment", one is well established procedure and the other is not, mostly because there are thousands of judges at any time, but only one President.

1kiki, read about what stupidity, even business related, personal behavior got many different Federal Judges removed. Trump does similar stuff all the time:

Find me that quote, m'kay?

Because I have a quote from the very same section referencing William J. Clinton, and the HOUSE VOTE procedure used to start an impeachment inquiry, as an indicated practice.

So - go find that quote. Or I'll just figure you're doing your usual bullshitting (lying).

I'll give you some time to cover your ass. Then I'll post the quote from the House Manual.

The insane never-Trumpers will be driven even more insane in the wash/rinse/spin/repeat/ cycle they mistake for reality.

As Capitol Hill Drafts Sanctions on Turkey, Trump Shrugs at Kurds

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who spent the week engaging in a lengthy Twitter tirade against the president’s decision, ratcheted up his rhetoric on Wednesday morning against Turkey and the administration.

“Pray for our Kurdish allies who have been shamelessly abandoned by the Trump Administration. This move ensures the reemergence of ISIS,” Graham tweeted on Wednesday. “Will lead effort in Congress to make Erdogan pay a heavy price.”
By Wednesday afternoon, Graham announced legislation with Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) that would impose aggressive new sanctions on Turkey.

The bill would sanction the U.S. assets of top Turkish leaders, including President Recep Tayyep Erdogan; it also would punish any foreign individual or entity who sells weapons or provides military aid to Turkey, or supports the country’s domestic energy industry.

Too bad we don't have mob rule, huh?

I bet 20% of those people at least are in California.

Don't forget, that I'm all for impeachment too. There's a lot of us.

You realize that impeachment isn't removal, correct?

Do Right, Be Right. :)
