So. I've made up my mind that I'm done feeling lousy after being shitty with people regarding this.

Whether or not I think it's all bullshit is moot at this point. The panic is real, and that's all that matters in our current situation.

Rather than add to anybody's stress by trolling, or my own by getting frustrated by what I see as stupidity and a grand overreaction to things, I'm going to choose to instead try to empathize with people who have now seen a great deal of changes in their lives, overreaction or not, and all stupidity aside.

Stay safe, do whatever it is that makes you feel good about yourself and your situation, and try not to stress out too much.

I apologize to anyone here who has been further stressed out by anything that I've said in the past week above and beyond what the world has been throwing them. Whether or not we see eye to eye about anything regarding our current situation we find ourselves in doesn't matter. Like it or not, we're in it, and I realize that my comments to people directly and in general about this aren't helping anything or anyone.

I still firmly believe we're going to all look back on this in a few weeks or a month and laugh, and I hope that I'm right about that. But even if I am, that's not going to change the fact that at this moment we all are being forced to make changes to our daily lives that can be very uncomfortable for many of us, and I can only hope that most of it will be temporary.

Try not to panic, and if you're sent home from work try to make the most of that time.

We'll get through this.

Apologies, amid this COVID bullshit CRISIS.

Apology NOT accepted.

I don't need your dismissiveness.

I don't need your phony bonhomie to talk me down from a panic IN NEVER FELT.

I don't need your mealy-mouthed smug weaseling.

I need an apology TO ME because you were an asshole TO ME.

YOU LIED ABOUT ME.

I NEVER ONCE called for "government control of everything". I NEVER ONCE criticized Trump. I NEVER ONCE had an agenda other than to look at what was going on and evaluate it by the light of my own considerable learning and experience. I DID STUDIOUSLY keep politics out of my discussions.

I DID NOT go out and buy N95 masks. I DID NOT panic buy. I DID NOT hoard anything.

So unless you apologize TO ME and the undeserved way YOU TREATED ME -

FUCK OFF ALONG WITH THE JSF DONKEY YOU RODE IN ON.

I'm not going to argue about it any more.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

SIX, the person who was most panicked about this was you, afaik. I'M not panicked. My family isn't panicked. KIKI isn't panicked. We didn't go out and buy 10 cases of toilet paper and every bottle of hand sanitizer on the shelf. We are lucky that I had some N95 respirators and surgical masks on-hand because of previous suspect lead paint work and general woodworking/gardening. We have a plan, and we're sticking to it until circumstances tell us otherwise, and that is

#staythefuckhome
#wearamask
#washyourhands

I feel very comfortable with our level of exposure, with our supply situation (I usually have a couple of weeks of food on-hand anyway because I shop sales) and with whatever happens.

Sorry if the pandemic makes you feel uncomfortable. I hope that when this evolves into a more discernable situation you can go back to being yourself.

Peace out.

6ix, you are forgiven for following your leader. Since Trump has reversed himself, 6ix shifted into reverse almost simultaneously. Unlike his leader, 6ix is truthful about what happened. Trump is not clearly admitting to what he is doing:

Trump pretends he anticipated the coronavirus pandemic, but his own words prove him wrong

For weeks, President Trump has minimized the coronavirus, mocked concern about it and treated the risk cavalierly. On Tuesday he took to the White House podium and made a remarkable pronouncement: He knew it was a pandemic all along.

“I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic,” Mr. Trump told reporters.

Here is what Mr. Trump actually said from the beginning of the pandemic.

Jan. 22, asked on CNBC whether he was concerned about a global pandemic: “No, not at all,’’ Mr. Trump said. “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

Feb. 26, at a White House news conference, about the number of reported cases of the virus: “We’re going down, not up. We’re going very substantially down, not up.”

Feb. 27, at a White House meeting: “It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear.”

March 7, seated next to President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil at Mar-a-Lago, his Palm Beach, Fla., club: “I’m not concerned at all.” (At least three members of the Brazilian delegation and one Trump donor at Mar-a-Lago on March 7 later tested positive for the virus.)

On March 16, in the White House briefing room, warning that the outbreak would “wash” away this summer: “So it could be right in that period of time where it, I say, wash — it washes through. Other people don’t like that term. But where it washes through.”

That comment on Monday was part of Mr. Trump’s inching toward a more urgent tone in recent days. But his assertion on Tuesday that he had long seen the pandemic coming was the most abrupt pivot yet from the voluminous number of claims and caustic remarks he has made about the disease.

On Tuesday, Mr. Trump spent much of a lengthy news conference praising his administration’s response to the pandemic, saying the only mistake his administration made had been a mismanagement of relationships with the news media.

When asked why he had suddenly adopted a somber and realistic tone about the virus on Tuesday, the president denied that he had changed his mind at all.

“No, I’ve always viewed it as very serious,” Mr. Trump said. “There was no difference yesterday from days before. I feel the tone is similar, but some people said it wasn’t.”

Besides denying the seriousness of the coronavirus over the past two months, he had also displayed an acerbic tone toward people who took it more seriously.

On Feb. 28, Mr. Trump accused Democrats and the news media of hysteria and unfairly criticizing his administration by engaging in what he said was a political “hoax.”

Here is a program designed for 6ix:

The IRS (or whoever) puts up a website. It asks for your name, address, and Social Security number. It then asks, under penalty of perjury, for you to swear that you really did lose your job for coronavirus-related reasons. You will be audited about this at the end of the year, but in the meantime we will send you a $500 check every week for 20 weeks. If Congress extends the program, the checks will keep coming. That’s it.

"(or whoever)" should give you pause.

There are already a lot of scams out there related to the coronavirus.

Don't ever sign up for anything and offer personal details to anybody unless you know exactly who it is you're giving it to. If it's a real government program, they likely have most of the data already anyhow and would only ask you certain questions to verify your identity, like the five or so that are asked to verify you are who you are when you get a credit report.

In all actuality, any program requiring you to sign up for it would likely be linked to the social security website, so I wouldn't sign up for anything that didn't have a link from ssa.gov unless specifically told otherwise.

Also, with the US Census coming up, it would make sense for any information or direct links to be put up there as well.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I made an attempt to sign up for an online account at Social Security. I could not do it. The security was ridiculously high. SS asked questions that could not be answered without my credit report in front of me. Medicare was very different. It was easy to sign up for the online account to track my coverage.

6ix, it is perfectly okay with me that you never receive federal money because you are too suspicious to signup. I have never been scammed in my life, on line or off, other than volunteering to fight Nixon's War in Vietnam. Because I'm so trusting, if money is being given away, I am signing up for it. But maybe I should get my most recent credit report so that I can finally have an online social security account? I think I'll get $4,500 per month when I turn 70 in 2022, but I'd like to be sure.

Have you forgotten where you lived or worked in the past?

The questions at SSA are essentially identical to those that you need to answer to get a credit report from TransUnion or Equifax. They are designed to be only questions that you should know the answer to, but not so difficult that you need to sift through a box with all of the historical paperwork of your own life.

I had zero problems signing up on the SSA website.

I appreciate the additional security and the fact that every time I use it they require me to check my email inbox and put in the temporary code that was emailed to me along with my username and password to access that information.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Well I hope you don't mind, but it's not alright with me if you or somebody else in America gets scammed and ripped off by a corporation in India that legitimately employs people to scam Americans.

Being responsible with your personal information isn't paranoia. It's just common sense.

Seriously. Be careful. There are A LOT of COVID scams out there right now. And I would imagine that somebody offering free money is going to con a lot of people. When and if the government announces plans to start cutting checks, you should fully expect to start seeing news stories about people who get devastated because they weren't careful and fell for a scam.

Readers should be highly skeptical of emails and websites that purport to provide information or goods related to the ongoing pandemic. The key fact to confirm is the primary source of those communications. Readers should never take source claims at face value. One of the most reliable sources for legitimate coronavirus-related information is this page from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Communications from local departments of health can also be helpful, but only when the emails or websites can be confirmed as coming from a legitimate agency. These departments can usually be found through Web searches—for instance, the San Francisco Department of Health.

No worries dude and way to try and make an attempt to be civil and rise above the stink. It costs nothing and it's even easy - something lost on some people. What did Book say about being held over a volcano's edge?

And I freaking love the response you got - "F*CK OFF!!!!" so telling. When the going gets tough... the weak fall to pieces. I have believed for a while that we're spoiled in this country (I include myself). So now we have a real test, one that will show if we deserve what we had.

Good luck!

Covid vaccinations – including boosters – fall to lowest levels since 2020

On Wednesday, the seven-day average of vaccinations fell to fewer than 182,000 per day, according to data compiled by the Washington Post. That is lower than at any time since the first days of the program.

The daily total has been in free fall for the past six weeks. On Feb. 10, the nation was averaging more than 692,000 shots a day. Booster shots have been more common than first or second doses since October, and the low rates have long caused concern among some experts.

Now, with authorities bracing for a possible increase in COVID-19 cases caused by the BA.2 subvariant, 65.4 percent of Americans are fully vaccinated and just 44 percent have received a booster shot. That is substantially less than the totals in many Western European nations — which nevertheless have seen a sharp rise in cases in recent weeks and months.

Fauci is talking, again, because the number of cases is rising in Europe. The same could happen in the USA. See the graph for how that works:
